lt250r91: Sweet ride! I'm a die-hard 250R guy, and the thought of a 300PV 2 stroke quad is great. Does it vibrate without a counterbalancer? What's the power like? The cast aluminum swingarm looks great, is it a linkage setup? Once again nice ride, I just want some more info.

Mike,

Your machine looks suh-weeeeeeeeet!!! You'll definitely have to give a write-up on its performance, and also how it compares to your Speed!!!

PS- how's the job situation now?

Posted by: AlaskaYFM

Mike,

Have you thought of maybe dropping a tooth in the countershaft sproket (if you can even find the part???)? The GasGas came with 20" rears stock, right? I think that once you get the gearing figured out (for the woods) that you shouldn't have any problem pulling the C'dale. I mean, my God, it is a 300cc two-stroke .

Posted by: AlaskaYFM

well, I suppose you are also still breaking it in, too, so you won't see anything close to that 50hp until you get above 7000rpm...

ooohhh aaahhhhhh

Those blue bead rings look great

Posted by: jmoney45

very kewl. be sure to post how it compares to the c-dale. if you don't mind me asking, how much did you pay?

A dealer had one at Little Sahara OK. this weekened. He had it out for 2 minutes before someone bought it. This machine looks very very well built. I think it is a steal at that price. It may be to wide for some at 52 inches, but nice for the dunes. I am waiting for the report of how it did against the Cannondale.

thats wild! does the turn signals work?

I was at Little Sahara on Saturday. The guy that bought the GasGas was parked next to us. I watched the deal go down... The dealer was offering rides, a couple of guys (including the guy that bought it) wanted to ride it in the dunes. But, the Gasgas does not have a mount on the rear grab bar for a flag. So they rode it up and down the road in the park. Then the guy starts talking price, and the next thing I know he's bought it, took it up to Little Sahara tours and rentals, mounted a full set of sand tires and a welded on a tab for the flag!
Later, at the sand drag area area he's racing it. The dealer told me its a 50hp quad. It looked good running against the mild Raptors, 400ex's (440's), Z400's and Ds650's in attendance as the GasGas never lost.

Posted by: truckracer

The Raptor I saw running against it was piped. Several Shee's were out there, I saw none race the GasGas. The new owner of the GasGas was mainly trying to race the 4 strokes.

definatly cool looking, i like the locking gas cap and the street legal features, too bad we cant ride them like they do motorcylces. seems pretty stupid to me that we cant. cant wait to see the 450

Go to the link at the bottom of this post and look in the 03 GasGas folder. I'll have a riders report and other info at a later time on this machine. If any is interested in one the dealer is suppose to get another 300cc 2-stroke in sometime next week. And he is also talking about getting a 450cc efi 4-stroke in a month or so. So if you what one the these quads give them a call. Just tell them that Mike (the guy that bought quad off them) told you about it. Their info is the business card on the pictures section.

First off. Still unemployed. This gives me more time the ride these 2 machines. I still haven't finished breaking it in yet. But I can give everyone a couple complains and some early evaluations on the machine.

First off the important stuff. Dealer info and pricing:
Dealer is: Race Ready Cycles in Dover, Ohio
owned and ran by Don and Ann Grove
Phone # (330)602-9219
Located right off 77 at exit 83

Don said he will have another 300 in next week and a 450 4-stroke in within the next 4 weeks. If you are interested in one call ASAP, because these thing will sell quick and it might be a long time before more make it here.

Pricing: Sticker price on one is $7695 + plus tax & title. I paid $7900 OTD for mine including with $150 in upgrades. (LTR exhaust valve cover and jetting kit). The LTR stuff adds more low to mid range power.

Now for first impression. As you can see from some of the pics I now have Hiper Tech wheels on it. Honda/ Cannondale bolt pattern. I reccomend the Honda offset. Right now I got the rear to 48" and the front to 51" If I put the honda offset fronts on (4-1 offset) it will reduce it to 49" up front. I'm going to be looking into getting it down to around 47" wide front and rear.

I've got a complain on the rear shock. First not enough travel-seat height increased. I think an 1" longer shock would do the trick. I've also dropped the shock setts (front and rear) to 2 clicks from the softest setting and I thinks it's still to stiff. It looks like I'm going to have to have them revalved & resprung sometime before I start racing it. Another complain on the rear shock is it's a B@#$% to adjust the compresion & rebound settings. Frames in the way of the comp. and the swingarm is in the way of the rebound.

All the above are small things that can be change. I know one thing this machine does have power and that twist throdle is a little different.

Side note on the carbon fiber rims the fronts are a little close on the inside bell against the brake caliber. I've already contacted Hiper Tech about the problem and the engineer is working with me to fix the problem. He asked how I got the machine already then said you know what it would look good with a set of blue rings. I agreed with him. Maybe a set will show up.

As for the vibration on the quad. I haven't felt any at all.

Any question feel free to ask. I'll try to reply ASAP. Well I gots to go ride. Later

Posted by: lt250r91

I'm going to give the twist a chance. it does have some nice advantages to it. I've got the fornt shocks close and the rear is getting better. I'm going to change the proload on it and see if that helps.

As for comparision. Remember I haven't opened the GasGas up yet do to still breaking it in. If feels like it's going to be faster do to a 6th gear and the power some how feels smoother and more usable for woods. This my change once I open it up. The biggest difference so far would have to be the feel of the quad. The front end is a couple inches taller so when I jump back on the cannondale it feels really low to the ground and smaller. The steering on the GasGas is stiffer than the cannondale. both seem to jump nice. I know onething if you grab a handful of front brakes on the 300 be ready to go over the bars. Those thing stop really quick.

Yes it has turn signals and hazard lights. The wiring is there but not hooked up. It does have a functional horn though. This will come in handy at the races. A new way to scare people out of my way. I don't know if the brake light or speedometer and stuff like that works yet. It does have a functioning clock on it. I haven't took the time to figure all the electrical stuff out yet and the dealer didn't have the owners manual yet. Maybe that has something to do with the fact I got it 2 weeks early.

I'm going to try to have a full report on how it compares to the c'dale this weekend. My cousins will be out to go riding and I just might have to have a little drag race with my 2 quads and the one cousins 88 lt250r. I'll let you all know the out come.

Mxmike
Yep it comes set-up more towards mx, I'm looking to narrow it so I can xc race it. Same goes with softening the suspension. so far so good on the set-up changes.

For the those interested in street legal quads, I've read 2 articles on street legal cannondales in Arizona. The mags where Nov 2002 Dirtwheels and Nov 2002 Atv action. So they might be street legal in your state. Something to look into if interested.

I've been told the only difference between the 300 and 450 is the engine the quad will look the same.

The quad came with .190 douglas rims with 4 ply 20" rear razors and 4 ply 21" fronts. The pictures of the quad you see is all stock exempt for the carbon fiber rims and tires and the LTR cover.

The quad comes with a Keihin PWK38mm carb with stock jetting at 175 main, 38 pilot, and N1ED needle with the clip in the #3 setting.
when the dealer added the LTR cover he used their jetting kit which uses a 178 main, 48 pilot, and the a different needle (not sure on which one) same clip setting and the air screw is 3 turns out.

For info on LTR's products check out their site
LTR
The 300cc dirt bike parts are the ones that were used on the quad.
LTR is short for LT-racing name of an aftermarket company that makes stuff for GasGas bikes.

I race the GNCC's and local harescrambles in southern Ohio. The dealer is wanting me to do some Northern Ohio racing next year so I'll be racing just about everywhere in Ohio next season. Go luck on the quad. For now I got the fronts on the 6 softest comp. setting and 10 or 12 th on the rebound. The rear is on 4th softest comp and I think 8th on the rebound. Only other thing I can think of doing is backing off the rear spring increasing the sag. I'll let everyone know what ends up with the shock settings. Still thinking about having them revalved and resprung. I have to wait until I race it once to make sure. I hard to tell which way to go until you race it. I can get it close by just trail riding.

Ok, Unforunately do to wheather conditions, my 2 cousins didn't come out to ride this week, but a buddy did come out to visit for a little while so I was able to do a couple drag races before he had to leave. We each rode but machines and just from a couple drags we both agreed the cannondale pulled the GasGas in the first three gears but 4th was almost even I'd say the cannondale got a slight edge. once in 5th is when the 2-stroke started to pull the dale and since the GasGas has a 6th gear and the Dale doesn't it pulled away at top speed. We never toped either quad out do to not have a long enough straight away. Both quads had 22" xct's on them. The cannondale's being new and the GasGas's having about 50-60% tread left. As for seat of the pants power. The cannondale seemed to hit harder than the GasGas. The GasGas is a very smooth 2-stroke I couldn't believe how smooth it accelerates and shifts. The clutch and shifter is so much easier and smoother that the Cannondale. It is almost like there is no resistance in the clutch of gear shifter and it is alot easier to find netural.

OK so the cannondale is quicker off the line and the GasGas has the top speed. As we put the machines away I asked my buddy, "so which quad do yo like better"? His answer was which ever one you don't ride.BR>I agreed with him that they are both awesome quads and pending on what type of rider and type of racing your doing either quad would be up front and a good choice.

We have had a little bit of ran the past couple of days and my cousins aren't diehard riders so to speak. I'm hoping they will come out this next weekend or my buddy will be out so we can put these 2 machines up against each other for an all day ride. For better comparsions. I just can't wait to get the GasGas on the track. How smooth the power delivery is will be great for woods racing.

I've thought about changing the sprockets. I'll probally go with the same set-up I had on the 91 lt (which was 1 tooth less up front and one less on the back) This gets it back to about stock on the 22" tires. I thing you got to remember is the cannondale is pretty much stock too. It has the stock pipe and blaze map with stock sprockets and 22" tires. So but machines have 22's when they came with 20" and are geared for the 20's. The GasGas is claimed to have 50 hp and the cannondale at 33 hp. As I said before the seat of the pants feel would say the cannondale has more power do to how hard it hit compared to the GasGas.

That's cool that someone else has one and has drag a couple of other quads and won. For the price of the machine and all the goody's it's going to hurt all the other companys. The big problem is limited supply of these quads. My dealer said that not all the dealers are even going to get one of these machines. So if you have a chance to get one you better jump on it or you'll be waiting until sometime next year on them.

The first race of 03 season in the D-11 series is December 22nd. So that's when I'll put it to the test in the race scene. I'll keep everyone posted on test, races, and comparisions between the 2 machines and others if someone what's to challange the new 2-stroke.

Ok I just added a couple of pics with blue race rings so go check them out.

I think the gas gas power is right just like the owner described it smooooth.Look at the background of the company MX isnt a priority.A friend of mine has one of the trials bikes if you ever get a chance to try one do it you will swear it iselectric in a long race like cc or harescrambles I think it should work awesome.

Posted by: YFZRacer

soulds like a sweet quad what are the hp numbers on that thing you dragged it against something else will it beat a shee?

Posted by: YFZRacer

sounds kewl any it drag against any shee's and for raps what does lightly moded mean piped or what

Posted by: dubya1

Bitchin' lookin ride!!!!!!!!!!!

Keep us well informed. (I thought the New Kids On The Block were a dead issue. LOL

Thanks

Posted by: dubya1

P.S.

I Will not go back to 2-Stoke.

2 issues pending;

1. Environmental Nazi's (John F. Kerry aka "Bill Clinton" Algore,Finestine....................

2. Too much maintainence

Thank God for this laptop's portability, I have maps that feel "2" stroke for my machine.

Posted by: dubya1

KEWL as hell. Give the twist throttle some time. I have one on my Steed and it is awesome.

Posted by: mountainman10

How does it compare to your speed as far as power goes? I know a two stroke is a different type of power but what are your first impressions? Is it faster than the c-dale?

Posted by: maddog56

all i have to say man, is awesome...

Posted by: maddog56

from the huge power gains we've all seen on other two strokes, this gas gas should rip the c-dale and every other four stroke a new one with a pipe/filter/jet setup. id say it would probably be faster than a shee judging from the c-dale comparison. this comes from the fact that a stock shee runs about the same as or sometimes a little slower than my stock rap. and a c-dale usually takes a rap fairly easily. but, as they say, only time will tell

Posted by: mxmike

KoolQuad!!!!

Can't wait to hear a good comparison. That thing looks mx ready.

Posted by: mxmike

LOL.My wife just looked at all the pics and fell in love. She wants one for the highway.

Posted by: mxmike

Your going to turn alot of heads with that!!It's like being the new kid on the block all over again.

Posted by: DHP400ex

Mike was wondering if this Gas-Gas is gonna fit thru the woods? looks awfully wide. And what is the number for the dealer? And what kinda price we talking for the 300? thanks

Posted by: bubblegumequalsdirtbike
