I had a blast!!!! It was fun getting to know everybody. We thought there was a great quad turnout. There were 12 in the proclass and alot more in the amature, if i had to guess around 30 maybe more. It was a good experiance. We are coming to the Feb. race. Let me tell you about Monster Mountain. We called the people that night and they said the they had only gotten a little bit of light rain so we decided to make the 5hr drive there. It was about 3:30 am when we pulled into a gas station were the track is to get some ice for the coolers. My dad got to talking with the guy at the station and he said it had been raining for 3 days straight. Now we head to the track. We pull into the dirt road and almost get stuck because it is so muddy. We decide to sleep right outside the gate. When we see the track it is a muddy mess. There was no way he could have races on the track. He decides to race on a vintage track that he has at the facility that is more of a tt style. I walked that track and of course it is a mess also. There are rocks all over that track some the size of your fist. That track was a death wish. It was drizzling the hole time. The owner even told us the weather said there was a 90% chance of rain that day. Well, we decide to leave and head home. All and all i had a good time this weekend. I am looking forward to racing future ax races.

9.you get the picture. That rythem section that they had set up was killer. Just about every pro rider in their practice almost crashed in their rythem section( 3 doubles one after the other). The only way someone could clear them is to land it almost perfect.

had a good time. was glad i finally got to put some faces to some of you guys on here. like josh said we will be back. im tired and going to bed, drove 830 miles this weekend and had 2 hours sleep. also wrecked my truck leaving the AX. not bad but still pi$$ed me off. man that was a dark road to tuscaloosa. i'll get back to you guys tomorrow after i get home. looks like things have been quiet on the forum this weekend.later

Posted by: markvette

we left before they started but they said they were gonna race, there wasnt but 40 or so bikes there compared to 500 in aug. we got a local guys phone number so next time we can get a true weather report. it just wasnt worth taking a chance on josh getting hurt or tearing the moto up. one racer told me he tried to practice on the track they were gonna race and the rocks broke the plastic on his 400 ex.

more on the arena cross since i got some sleep. i was proud of josh, i think he done well for his first AX and first pro class entry. also knowsalot, airtime, reconbasher and more that i cant remember their screen names were great guys. i saw airtime helping a guy fix his polaris after a heat race. they all went out of their way to be friendly and helpfull not only to us but other racers as well. mrp and ryan, what can i say them 2 guys can ride, hopefully soon josh will get to their level. kip was talking to someome about an AX in memphis in jan. i will have to find more out. we are taking this week off and try to do monster mountain again on nov. 10. i am having back surgery AGAIN today so hopefully i will be up to par soon. of course i didnt let it stop me the last, got out of the hospital on friday and we raced sunday. just cant stay away from the tracks. later guys, i will check back in when i get out later today.

airtime

Posted by: markvette

airtime
its a scheduled practice. i think quads got four 20 minute practices on saturday. if you miss this one the next one is dec. 8. they had a 330 r thay won the 2 stroke class. ryann that won the arena cross ran second behind him. ryann only got 2 laps of practice sunday morning before the races started. hope you can make it. later

Posted by: markvette

practice starts saturday at 9 and last till 3. there werent to many quads on saturday but quite a few sunday morning before the race. we will be there saturday morning. there is a little rinky dink motel about 4 miles from the track. we stayed in montgomery at best suites last time. 49 bucks for a real nice room and they have an indoor heated pool too. its right off highway 85 about 30 miles from the track. it was worth the drive though. i got a local guys phone number so i can get a true weather report too. hope ya'll make it

Been waiting ALLLLLLLLLL day. Lets hier it

Posted by: gaff

Oh lord Patrick, I nearly did the same thing myself. I read the run order, walked out for the opening ceromonies and then walked back to get my quad. I road my quad rite back just to hier them yell my name to get at the gate. I came with in 30 seconds of missing it too.

I feel the holeshot is a big key to the AX, but I also feel like it's alot like XC, any one can win. One misque (wich I did) and they are all over you.

I completely understand the stauling part, as the obsticles were tough and at times surprising. The AX is so busy, when you jump and land your either in a turn or making quick decisions about a double or whoops or something.

We didn't have the turn out yall did, but if they split the classes it would not have mattered for me. The 300cc Lakota gets the short end of the stick when they do that any how.

I was in poor shape so the whoops ate my lunch. I did well in the Qualifier, but in the main I hit a shee rite at the crest of the finish line jump. After that I tried to hard, over road the coarse and basicly got the snot beat out of me.

I'm so glad you all did well, just wished you could have made the main.

I also understand not being able to track positions. You just have to attend one of these one time to see how quick pased and the number on the track at the same time.

Graet job!

KNOWSALOT- That SUCKS! I thought the people did a really good job with the AX race with the exception of one thing. Telling which moto they were on. I know that they would say what class was running, but they could have said at the same time which moto it was.

atvman- That SUCKS too! I hate to hear yall drove that far for nothing. Did they end up racing anyway? If not, are they going to have a make up date?

I have some video of both pro qualifiers and the pro main. I didnt even get a chance to watch the other quad races because they happened so fast. By the time I got up there they were over with.

In my pro qualifier I got up to the line and the castle nut that holds my tie rod on was about three threads to coming off, so I tightened it with my fingers and hoped it would hold. I came out the gate pretty good but not so good in the first turn. I was second to last going in the whoops and by the end of them I was in fourth. I finally worked up to second where I finished. My castle nut luckily stayed on.

In the pro main I pulled the holeshot and lead for two laps before Ryan put a really good block pass on me and I finished second overall. I also got severe arm pump due to the "small whoop section" and could barely hold on during the race. It sucks, but it happens sometimes.

Yea I think everyone that tried the timing section either crashed or almost crashed. 6 laps for practice was too few of laps to get the timing down for those. I had fun and wish I could have met everyone, but for the people I did meet is was good to finally put a face to a name.

KNOWSALOT- For your information the awesome, dominating, and intimidating CaptainCarl showed up Sunday. He won the Pro class by just barely beating his shadow over the finish line. That guy has got some skill. I know this because I saw on the news that the Starkville PD arrested some nut that broke into the horse arena and was riding around in circles on his tricycle yelling I am the fastest, I am the fastest, AHHHHHHHHHH no one can beat me, I am the fastest.

Sorry, I couldnt resist!

airtimehocutt- No, I never doubled out of the rythum section. I think that me, Chris, and Ryan were the only ones to make it all the way through the rythum section atleast once. Chris was doing it really smooth in practice and then he crashed on the last lap of practice while trying it. Ryan was going through them, but not smooth like Chris and then he ended up crashing. Josh also tried going through them a few laps and I think he kissed the front bumper, but saved it and didnt come off the quad. I did it twice but not as smooth as I wanted. The third time I almost ate dirt bad so I decided not to do it. I would need more than 6 laps to get the timing down. I think if you would have tried the finish line you would have been okay. I have taken a Cannibal (with the Arvin shocks) to practice at Fernwood a few times and jumped everything out there and it wasnt as smooth as I like, but it was okay. But its better to be on the safe side than sorry. Did you stall it in front of the whoop section? I think I remember seeing it on tape last night. That C-dale is going to feel real good when you get your shocks in.

POOLGUY- What number were you?

Posted by: KNOWSALOT

Just got back.

Very good racing and a tremendous quad turnout. Since I was involved in a class in the middle of each heat race, I'm not sure what the total amount of quads were.

They divided the classes like this.......

0-250cc Amateur [Four Stroke and Two Stroke]
251-Up Amateur [Four Stroke and Two Stroke]
Pro [Run what ya brung]

There were a few forum members there. Me, airtimehocutt, MarkVette, atvman, EZRIDE, MrP, POOLGUY, LiftKit, reconbasher, and two more from what i uinderstand, but I didn't get to meet them. I actually never ran into MrP in person that I know of but did see him race. He's a go-getter for sure.

During practice, I stalled the engine on three different occasions on the first two laps, but soon got my rythme going and faired well. I also got 4th place in my heat race, which advanced me to the main event.

My main event sucked. Why you ask? Stupid mistake.......and one that is only my fault. I missed the main event!!!! I had been watching the LCQ of my class to see who would be the final two riders in my class. A friend of mine was in that race and I thought I had plenty of time to get back to the truck and get the quad for the main which I THOUGHT was 3 races afterwards............WRONG.....I thought they werwe running the 250 class before mine, but it was the opposite. When I showed back up the staging area with the quad....250 guys were there and MY class was racing on the track!!!! I have never been more p!$$ed off in my entire life. For the first time in a long time, I had the whoops down pat and felt great about going into the main.......and I make the biggest goof of life.

I will be attending the one in February also and when I do......you can bet that my quad stays in the staging area from the very beginning.......and also memorize the race order.....LOL
I laugh at myself now.....but I wasn't a few hours ago.

Now..........Results....from the best of my knowledge.

250 Amateur Class.
reconbasher got 3rd on a Honda 250X
airtime's friend Steve got 4th on a 250R
LiftKit got 5th on a Kawasaki Mojave
POOLGUY's son also rode this class, but I am not sure where he finished.....maybe he can fill you in on that.

Pro Class.
This was a VERY interesting race........so interesting that I am not 100% sure on where all these guys finished up.
I know that MrP and Ryan were the guys who finished 1st and 2nd but I am unsure of which order.

Josh got 3rd in the main running his very first indoor race.

I am also unsure of where airtime and POOLGUY finished. There was so much action on the track that it was hard to keep track of everyone after 3 or 4 laps. All the wrecks seemed to happen on the last two laps and why I am unsure of where everyone finished.
I'm sure that all these guys will tell their own stories of the race. I am looking forward to reading it myself, because it was very hard to keep up with what was going on.

I have to give a big congrats to Josh on his 3rd place finish in his first indoor MX race. That kid can ride the hell out of that Moto.

I suppose it will be late tomorrow or Monday before MarkVette or Josh can post their experiences there. When we all left a few hours ago, they were going to go ahead and make the drive to Monster Mountain in AL for a race tomorrow. Good Luck Josh!

So.......Bottom line is that everyone had a great time. I especially enjoyed kicking myself in the @$$ for an hour straight in the pits after missing my race. It will be the last time I get to enjoy such pleasure.

Hats off to all the Pro Quad riders. They all put on one helluva show for everybody.

Patrick

OH.....One more thing.

As far as I know the awesome, dominating, and intimidating...CaptainCarl didn't show [What a surprise]

Posted by: KNOWSALOT

I don't know of any video that was taken this year, but I do know that EdSmith was there with his camera and will likley post the pics here later this week as he did this past February.

I should also mention that Michael had a bad day as well. He had not ridden any type of race since breaking his leg this past March and went all the way through to the LCQ and yet still failed to qualify for the main. He got tangled with another rider with two laps left and finished in last place. He vows for revenge at the next AX in February.........LOL

I hope all you guys here who ran Saturday night,....and those who didn't make it back to Starkville in February for the next one.

I will also have to second airtime's comment. Markvette and his son Josh are great guys to hang with at the races. Very laid back bunch of guys.

MrP,

LMAO!!

The funny thing is that I wouldn't doubt it a bit if that actually happened!!

Posted by: airtimehocutt

i got 10th in the pro-class, even through i finished in the back of the pack, i had a great time. if it wasn't for the fact of getting some seat time on the black bull, i would have parked it and watched mrp, ryan and josh race. they were flying around the track!! atleast we got to run a qualifier, so we got a long practice, 6 lap qualifier, and a 10 lap main. i was worn out after 6 laps, let my motor stall twice after lap 7. lol all in all, a great time. josh and markvette are super nice people. i finally met mrp. everyone was cool and had a good time. the track was hard, but better than last year. all the jumps were atleast rounded off. for you motorcycle guys, kevin windam was there. #14 in the national pro series. i got an autographed shirt for mt son. he was reallt cool and said he was opening up a motorx track in mississippi. just south of jackson. go to kevinwindam.com to get futher. knowsalot was sick over missing his race. he done pretty good in the heat race and i was looking forward to seeing the main.i would quess there were close to 50 quads there. mark i hate to hear about your long drive for nothing. at least yaw made it home ok. talk to yaw later.

Posted by: airtimehocutt

mrp, did you ever double out of the rythum section? i tried twice but cased it both times. i was really wanting to jump that finish line jump, but i did not want to chance tearing up my bull. maybe next race my shocks will be in. was anybody doubling all the way thru the rythum section? i saw one guy do it during practice i think. my friend taped the pro-practice and the races. he mostly followed me and poolguy during the races but you can still see some of the other guys jumping the finish line jump. and i think the first pro class practice group got filmed too. i'll try to bring it to the knowsalot faucility the next time i'm over that way. mark, does monster moutain practice the saturday before the race? i would love to go ride that track, but i want be off until that weekend again. mrp and mark, kevin windams track should be pretty close to yaw. yaw will have to let me know how it turns out.

Posted by: airtimehocutt

yeah i stalled, i was just tired and made a mistake. never ran a ten lap indoor race before. i was good for about 7 laps. i was watching the video tape and i remember a four wheeler coming around me. i will have to look to see if it was you. i was really wanting to try the finish line but i saw a couple of guys bottom out their bikes even after clearing the jump. i can wait a little longer for the shocks. i jumped some fourth gear jumps at gordo's track and it did fine. i had to land perfect or it would bottom out big time. i showed knowsalot some video of that day and one time i over jumped the jump alittle and just about bounced over the handle bars. i'm looking forward to getting my suspension in, gonna have to call pep and make sure they have not forgot about me! markvette, we have an old timers football game that rescheduled for the saturday before the monster mountain race. i do not know if me or my friends will be able to make it. i want to, but last year i was too sore to do anything for two days.lol maybe my R's motor will be ready and i can take it to monster mountain. was saturday and open practice or was it scheduled?

Posted by: airtimehocutt

MY BUDDY STEVE GOT 4TH IN THE 0-250 CLASS. poolguy's son got 6th place in the 0-250 class.
mark- iwish it was an open pactice. was there alot of quads at practice last time? what time does quad practice start? we'll have to stay the night, are you and josh coming up saturday for practice?

HAD A BLAST....... CAME IN NEXT TO LAST!!

Posted by: POOLGUY

23 I WAS ONE OF THE NAC'S BIKES.. MY SON DAYTON CAME IN 4TH IN THE HEAT, AND SIXTH IN THE FEATURE, I'M REAL PROUD OF HIM THOUGH THAT WAS ONLY THE SECOND TIME HE HAS RIDDEN MY 250R, AND HIS FIRST RACE. I THINK HE WOULD HAVE DONE ALOT BETTER BUT I HADN'T PLANNED TO RACE-SO WHEN I DECIDED TO, WE ONLY HAD ONE BIKE AND ONE RIDING SUIT (HELMENT, GLOVES, PANTS ECT..)
AFTER THE PRO HEAT, THERE WAS ONLY ONE RACE BETWEEN HIS AND MINE SO WE IN THE PARKING LOT (IN THE RAIN) CHANGING RIDING GEAR, AND TRYING TO GET BACK TO STAGING BEFORE THE RACE STARTED. BY THE TIME I RUSHED HIM UP TO THE LINE AND HAD THEM HOLD THE RACE, HIS GOGGLES WERE ON ABOUT HALF WAY AND WERE SO FOGGED UP YOU COULDN'T SEE HIS FACE. BY THEN HE WAS SO NERVOUS IT WAS A WONDER HE RACED AT ALL. THIS WAS ALSO MY FIRST RACE, AND I GUESS IT SHOWED LOL. I FELT REAL GOOD IN THE PRACTICE, UNTIL THE 3RD LAP THEN I FOUND OUT JUST HOW OUT OF SHAPE I REALLY AM!

Posted by: reconbasher

That was my first ax and i had a complete blast out there; was allitlle bummed for knowsalot cause he didnt make his race. I cant belive and i dont know how i beat all but 2 of the 250rs, someday ill figure it out. Ill be back there feb. 1st with my x and try it again.

Posted by: reconbasher
