Yo,
I used to have that problem when I was your age too, and I always had the munchies

Your arm muscles tighten up. It's caused by lack of Oxygen in the blood going to your arms. This is why people always say "Don't forget to breathe" when your racing. Sounds funny, but I caught myself doing it. Holding my breath when I'd go over a jump or if I didn't know if it'd stay on the quad or not. Also tensing up does this. If your muscles are always flexed, then your not getting proper blood flow to the muscles.
So always breathe normally, use the stress ball to pump up them forearms and make sure you take in lots of liquids.
Quick fix....take a couple of asprins before a race. This thins out the blood. But that can be bad if you wreck! Don't wanna bleed to death.

Man, be careful with this. Like JCV said if you get all bashed up (internal bleeding) then thinner blood can be a life threatening situation. It's a trade-off though - if aspirin helps you with arm pump, how important is that compared to serious injuries? I wouldn't take aspirin - because I know how much I crash!!!/i> >>
Yeah, def. gotta be careful. I usually don't crash(knock on wood)....so I've done it a couple of times.
I saw Cernics in your sig....I was just down there last weekend! WOW! They have a $h!t load of stuff in there! Everything from Thor, Fox, Answer. Really impressed with that place.

Yeah, you're right, if you get CUT bad, the aspirin is probably not gonna cause you to bleed out. But, I was referring more to blunt force injuries, which are more common when crashing while riding. A head injury or a lacerated or bruised spleen could become much more severe while under the influence of blood-thinning drugs. And last time I checked, you can't really put pressure on your brain or your spleen to stop it from bleeding INTERNALLY.

When you get it, your muscles/joints feel like they are all tense and if you move it wrong, it hurts. I get it alot when it's cold and I ride.

I had been racing for over 10 years and never got a case of arm pump till two months ago. I was at a Hare Scramble in Tennessee with the wind chill in the lower single digits. After about 12 miles, my arms went numb. Couldn't even mash the thumb throttle. I used my palm to gas it and made sure not to do anything that required pulling the clutch lever. I thought I was going to have to pull in on 16 miles, but it mysteriously went away as fast as it came. I managed to finsih the 24 miles and got 3rd place. Even though I did not win, I am more proud of that finish than any other in my entire life. I kissed that plague all the way home....LOL
By the way, I take 2 BC powders before any race, but to prevent a headache rather than to thin my blood.

Fortunately I haven't gotten it a lot but I have a few times on the rough tracks. I don't get it a lot though... maybe it's because I get so tired at the end of the moto, that I'm suckin for air and feel like my arms are just gonna fall off... ok ok, maybe not that bad but I do need to get into better shape.
Don't feel bad if you get it sometimes Blackbird, it happens to the best of us. Even the Pro guys get it.

I'm no doctor but I'm sure you can't take enough asprin to thin your blood to the point that you would bleed out from a crash. If you screwed up that much the asprin won't help. I will be checking with a Doc on this as I normaly take them before each ride, and a couple after. Old age and trechary will always overcome youth and exuberantce.

Hi Guys,
I have a question, what is the meaning of "arm pump"? I've saw that phrase "he got arm pump" a lot, in magazines mostly, and don't know what it means. Can someone please explain this symptom to me and what causes it?
