Well I was out riding today for about an hour and my buddy flew up beside me yelling at me to stop. I stopped and gas was pouring out of the 1/2 hole in the bottom of my tank where the fitting belonged. It seem the fitting completely backout out of the tank!!

You guys don't understand what happened. The Quick connect fitting didnt come loose the 1/4 NPT brass fitting unscrewed from the tank completly! so gas was coming out at an extremely fast rate. I lost half a tank in about 10 seconds.

Thats what I was thinking off some Teflon tape. I'm wondering if the treads are wiped out but now that it works am afraid to take it back apart. You Know the saying!!

He rode for at least 10 seconds, I was the one on the 400EX that told him to STOP.

There was a lot of fuel dumping out fast, so maybe the fuel line (that was dangeling under the tank) was sucking gas from the fuel being dumped.

Make sure you guys run spark-arrestors on those Cannondales

The quad should have died almost instantly due to the loss of fuel pressure....

I understood what you were saying, but it still should have died almost instantly due to fuel pressure loss... Fuel injection doesn't work like a carb - there's no bowl to draw fuel from to keep the bike running during a fuel supply loss situation. When the loss of fuel pressure occurs, the bike will almost instantly die.

Interesting...

Use some loctite and keep an eye on those fasteners & fittings...

When I first got my 400EX I went thru the whole bike and loctite'd many of the bolts that weren't from the factory - I had a buddy that got his before me and he lost TONs of bolts. Honda warrantied his by giving him replacement bolts and a tube of loctite.

I've not looked that closely at the fitting in the bottom of the tank... Does it thread into the plastic of the tank or does it have a "nut" on the backside of the fitting that holds it in place?

If it threads directly into the plastic of the tank, unless the loctite would attack the plastic, I would tend to think that it would work, but I would think something like gasoline safe teflon (PTFE) tape might be a better answer.

That happened to me once when I didn't snap the line all the way in, but mine just shut off when it happened. Kinda sucked since a friend of mine on a CR125 was right behind me on one of the local tracks around here. It just shut off and stopped right there on top of a berm and he almost ran into the back of me. But that was my own dumb fault

Someone that can't put the right bolts back into his engine rails, someone that keeps on riding something that thinks it's gonna fix itself, someone that will bad mouth an awesome company even though he is the one that tore up his quad... Companies, look out for those customers.
