There is not a quiter option for the 400 explorers the length of the pipe and the size of the chassis limit us to on ly being able to amek the silencer or muffler xx" long this in turn makes it one of our loudest systems available. We do offer a clamp on sparky spark arrestor for it but it will not make it any quieter.

I installed a HSP speed kit on my 01 Explorer 400 and I've found the exhaust is just too loud for me.This exhaust has the integral muffler. Is there a slip-on available that would quiet it down and also provide a spark arrester. Any help would be appreciated.

We mounted an old Donaldson can type muffler across the frame below the grab handle and level with the stinger. The exhaust now exits on the left and it removed the loud popping from the exhaust. Most of the noise now comes from the pipe itself reverberating farther up. We haven't had a chance to run it to see if it's lost any power or not. Hopefully it won't throw off the clutching too bad. Back to the drawing board I finally ran it with the donaldson on it. I reverted back to the stock jetting so it would take the gas and accelerate. With the extra muffler on it it accelerated better but top end seemed to only improve marginally and sometimes it wouldn't take the gas under load. I raised the needle clip one position on the trail and that improved the off idle stumble slightly. In frustation we disconnected the donaldson and presto ! The bike had power coming out of it's ears. It still seems like it loads up too easy and I'm not real happy with the throttle response off idle. On a good note my buddy rode it and couldn't believe the power on the way home. It's still too noisy so we'll have to do something as no one will trail ride with me as they say it too G.D. LOUD!! These are all old guys I ride with so they are cranky you know LOL

Finally got around to posting the results. After three home made silencers I finally bit the bullit and bought a "db snorkle" out of Mi. It's made out of flexible rubber and lowered the noise significantly without hurting power too much. As a benefit the way we positioned it it raised the exhaust outlet higher from the ground and the shape of it makes it much harder for water to get into the expansion chamber and silencer. Most of the noise you hear on the bike now is the chamber itself ringing. When I followed someone else on it it just sounded like a well muffled trail bike, although some of the old cranks muttered something about "a overgrown chainsaw" under their breath LOL
