Number 19 on your specifications list reads "top speed (km/hr)=80. That's KILOMETERS per hour which is about 50 miles/hour.
OK, just checked that link to the E-bay sale and I see where you got that 75 mph figure.
The other spec that doesn't match is the weight. The E-bay seller says 579 pounds, but number 22 on the above specs lists the dry weight as 430 kgs. That equals 948 pounds. Not even close to what the E-bay guy is claiming. And with only 35 horsepower it wouldn't be as fast as any of the current big bore quads. A 250 EX should be able to take it in a drag, but maybe not quite in a high speed run.

Thunder Motorsports sells a turbo kit for their 800cc Sand Viper. Which uses the same engine I believe. Their website is www.thun*erinc.com

Has your buddies taken the engine apart to see how well its built? I wonder how far you can push its performance before it grenades?

I saw 2 of these at gordons well over the weekend. TPR's buddies running and a different one being towed by a quad.
Posted by: mywifesquad
I talked with TPR's buddy that same weekend and I think they were 32mm carbs with a custom manifold, and I assume a custom throttle setup to go along with it. The exhaust was off of a big bore husky thumper but any big bore muffler would work. i think he said something about a making custom header in the future. And also looking for shocks from a quad that were revalvable for the front. He still said he wants to get it to breath better.
I was impressed with the buggy seeing it in person. I also think it looks much better in person than in the pictures. It was a little bigger than I expected and didnt look as cheap as I was thinking either.

From what I saw it looked like he used parts of the stock one with some welding/fabrication involved.

I just wanted to say that although I dont own one of these buggies. I really enjopy reading about them. I may get one some day, or maybe not.

Has Anyone seen these for sale yet in the USA? Looks a little better built than the others posted above. Looks to have trailing arm rear suspension, stronger front A-arms and better shocks....

I have a question. I was looking at the joyner 800cc sand viper, they claim 48 horse power. What do you guys think, is this sufficient power to truly enjoy this thing in the dunes? ( hill climbs, etc) Or would I be better off waiting and saving up for the 1600cc model?

The motor is a 3 cylinder knock off of a Geo Metro engine. I saw one sitting out at Test Hill at Gordons Well. I have a friend that has ordered one so we should know by new years. Since he's a gear head, he's going to do some mods to it. If it get's broke, he and his buddies will build a better part. I've heard a small turbo may be worked into the mix after evaluating the product.
TPR
Posted by: TPR
For the price they are asking, I'd rather get a Rhino 450. Probably more power, definitely better performance and quality. My friend is getting one of these, so we'll see how well it does.
TPR
Posted by: TPR
That is exactly what my buddy is doing. He was looking for somthing with a descent base that he could modify himself into a respectable, fun machine. I need to talk to him since he took it to the dunes this weekend.
TPR
Posted by: TPR
Well, the buggy was an initial flop....it was as fast as a Rhino in the sand on flat ground, but couldn't handle the actual dunes as well. It handled good and suspension was good, so they took off the stock manifold and chintzy carb and made a new intake topped off with 3 Mikuni carbs, and added a better exhaust than the pea shooter that it comes with.
It should get tested this weekend out at Glamis or Gordons.

The motor looks stout enough to handle some modification. I think if this works well, they plan on adding a turbo with moderate boost settings at higher rpm. I think the torque is decent, it just falls on it's face on the top end.
TPR
Posted by: TPR
All the mods really helped. It now runs quite good, although now it's a matter of fixing little things like replacing all the fuses because 2 broke on one ride. He also added Fox 2.0 rear Shocks and is looking into the front's.
TPR
Posted by: TPR
Well, the upgrades did improve the Kart a bunch. Much more duneable, able to climb Test hill...albiet a little slow with one passenger, but now more capable of keeping up with the Rhino.
Upgraded to Fox 2.0 shocks (Big Help!!)
Need to keep an eye on the cheap stocl fuses...I'd replace them all before driving.
Stock headlights work great!!
TPR
Posted by: TPR
Read below for upgrades. I'll ask what carbs they used, but they installed 3 mikuni's and added a titanium Husquavarna silencer that was bought unused for $40....now 3rd gear is useful and it would climb most any hill with the haulers installed.
TPR
Posted by: TPR
They used 3, 32mm Mikuni's, each with their own runner. They just cut some tubing that was the right OD and mounted the carbs to that and to the head. The K&N filters were then hard mounted to the carbs.
They used the stock header, and cut and welded it to accept the new silencer.
I'll ask if they can do another one and what it would cost.

Wait till they get a hold of the 1200 to 1600 cc model that Joyner is working on. Not sure of the exact displacement but it will be in the same chassis as the 800.

Just by looking at it I the same low fidelity corner cutting tecniques that go in to all the rest of the lower cc carts. But when you multiply in those weight factors I'd be a little scared. Your talking big bucks for that new cart. Its going to leave you stranded some were with way to much investment in it. If your going to roll those big bucks I would get the Desert Cart.
Look at the skinny twiggs coming out of the differential suppose to be axles. I'd hate to see the CV joints. I bet the bust left and right on you leaving you stranded. Come on, if you have not learned your lesson already on the 150cc carts about their designs then you are going to get burned on the 800cc. I'm being rough because I dont want you ruining your false expectation that its got 800cc and it must out perform the 150cc five times over. Wait till the first guy buys it and jumps 2 feet in the air and it twists the rear swing arm links busts the CVs and sends the broken axles into proplers until they catch and snap off the yokes on the differential. I can see it now. Good luck, your going to need it.
I notice its much larger than the small tight 150cc carts. If your in that size class already just go with a small VW powered sand rail and any part is available and it could be set up for street leagal.

Just a test. Call the dealer and ask them you want to order the pinion gear in the differential and see what happens. Hahahahahaha!

That thing's got to be very fast with a 3 cylinder engine and it's only 500lbs....but I'd be very concerned about the quality...the guy selling it on Ebay doesn't even know who manufactured the engine.
Posted by: Toyeboy
You mean 800cc motor isn't enough for a go cart??? That's more than enough for a 4x4 Ute.

I Bought one of the 250cc models from another supplier for about $2400.00 on ebay and the thing is a total peice of sht. The problem with these items is that there are very few part stocking destributors. So buyer beware and check for parts AND confirm before you buy.
I Thought I did my home work, and found out they lie like dogs! Cant even get a muffler that fell of the first week, and now I cant get a phone call returned.

junglegeorge,
I guess it's my fault for not clarifying to this board what my intentions are. I am interested in a off road vehicle that is fun, dependable and not very expensive. Something I can go out with my family and have some fun in the desert or the dunes without having a k1000 Snap On Box in tow. Most of my life I've been involved in some type of HP boats and/or race cars. I'm not looking for the latest chrome moly frame or latest cat with titanium carillo rods, bow tie angle heads with an aluminum big block powered by some type of whipple or pro charger. I don't want to have to worry about carrying 20 sets of jets or having to drain the carb because alcohol eats the bowls. Also I really don't want to join the Jones club and fork out $42000 for the new diesel crew cab, $48000 for the bad a** toy hauler and finally $65000 for the rail all so I can fit in at the Dunes, been there done that let me off that train.
Now I could care less if this Go Kart falls of the face of the planet it just looked rather interesting, I also see a Joyner that has 650cc motor kind of interesting. Frankly, I wish Honda would come out with something like this, I would buy it in a heartbeat, but they're not going to because it will only be a matter of time before some jacka** puts his twelve year old son in the thing who drives it on the 405 feeway in LA gets smashed by an eighteen wheeler and sues Honda for not disclosing that it is dangerous for a twelve year old to drive on the 405 freeway in Los Angeles in a Go Kart. Also, I'm not really a fan of the Rhino to me it looks like a golf cart, just my opinion.
So.....No I am not marketing this thing, but maybe you can come up with an alternative. Something that is small enough to fit on the desert trails but tough enough for the sand.

The RR looks really cool, just not sure about the $16000+ price tag. Hmmmmm now I'm starting to think.
Posted by: stevedr83
TPR,
Does this mean you would advise against purchasing this vehicle or is it a decent platform that has potential, but not in it's current form?
Posted by: stevedr83
Hi Mike,
I started the post, and you are free to post whatever you want. I have been watching with great interest about this thing and have not decided, if I would like to do this one or the 800cc Joyner. So thank you very much for the feedback. I saw one of these down in San Felipe at the 250 and it did look very cool.

Ok everyone I started this thread a year ago and after a year I finally made a decision and bought my first side by side toy. I looked long and hard weighed all the factors carefully read all your reviews. I laid awake at night thinking about what I wanted and here it is....
The Yamaha Rhino
I am excited, I found a new 660 06 Sport Edition for $8800. I ordered the 26" ITP Rims with the new Terracross tires. Also I added a 2-seat custom cage which I am having powdered coated siver to match the frame. I also ordered the leg guards for those nasty Rhino flips. My next mod is going to be a K N and some type of pipe and a little rejetting, breathe baby. This is going to be fun to customize.
Funny thing was everything fell together, I also bought a toy hauler this same month actually I bought that before the Rhino. A friend of mine was wanting to sell his 19ft 2003 Thor Tahoe Transport (he decided he wants a 28 footer now) so I picked that up for a steal. I added the flat screen and direct TV almost immediately and will add the air compressor this weekend.
I was really looking hard at these 800cc buggies, maybe in the future but right now I just wanted a little more backing from a company like Yamaha. I wasn't real excited when I first saw the Rhino. then I went to the Sand show here in Los Angeles and saw all the possibilities for this machine and I was hooked. I also looked really close at the Joyner as they had a nice display. It's not a bad machine, but honestly it's kind of rough plus I think I want the Chinese to step up quality more and reputation more before buying there products.
Well there you have it, I will post some pictures as soon as it's completed. I think our first test run will be California City followed by Pismo as soon as the weather gets better. Any more suggestions on mods, how fun is this? The world is one big sandbox, just keep your cat in the trailer.
Posted by: rocketmagnet
I know I have seen these on ebay from motous for $3700. That's a good price. Not sure if it's a good vehicle.
Posted by: work2play
This is being sold as the Joyner 800 CC Sand Viper, check them out at http://www.thunderinc.com/index.html. There is also a lot of talk about them on www.buggynews.com Do a search in their forum for Joyner and you will see a lot of info.

When you guys are talking about corner-cutting and shoddy quality, what aspects? And no, don't just say 'all of it'. I'm not trying to be a jerk here or anything. I got one of the SunL 250cc karts off Ebay recently. Haven't received it yet, but there will be some assembly required. Right off the bat I'm gonna replace every metric crap bolt that I find with standard grade 5 or 8 fastener just to make things easier. My FIL has one of the 150cc buggies, so I've seen one in action, and I've already got a list of things that I'm planning on doing as far as welding on gussets here and there, and riveting in some diamond-tread aluminum here and there, not to mention replacing the shocks with familiar ATV coilover shocks, and putting an FMF muffler from a 300cc 4-stroke ATV for exhaust. Anything else I'm missing? True, as the saying goes, 'you can't polish a turd' comes to mind, but if this SunL unit holds up half as good as my FIL's Twister, this won't take a terrible amount or modifications to make dependable.
Posted by: BEHMN8R
Yeah the thing looks good, but these type of companies disappear every year. I wouldn't want to be looking for replacement parts when something gave out. If I owned a fabrication shop at least I could build what I needed...heck, I'd probably just build it right from scratch. Until that time, I'll just modify my 2006 Ranger XP.

also, im thinking about buying the venom 800cc mamba, any thoughts???

what dunes??? did you mean piece of junk??? could it climb the dunes or was it just a matter of speed???
ive heard it will climb with paddles, but not real fast, a first or second gear thing, is this right???
ive also heard of a turbo upgrade.
mike
Posted by: slimefink
how would you say the venom 800cc stacks up against the honda FL400 pilot????
mike
Posted by: slimefink
well, the good news is that the new updated venom 800cc mamba has a lower geared trans., plus other upgrades that came about via wants made clear by customers and dealers wanting to make the buggy better.
once I receive the new version ill post the results.
mike
Posted by: slimefink
I expect the venom to be delivered any day now. I found out that the venom mamba and the awsome buggies hurricane II are the same buggy, parts can be purchased from both places.
mike
Posted by: slimefink
well, the venom 800cc mamba arrived and because I was approached by my wife and with her hands on her hips she informed me that since it was hers she was going to build it. so im relagated to being her heavy lifter and shes almost done building it and by the way shes doing a good job.
the buggy is the new and improved model with electronic ignition, better trans, bigger tank etc. etc..
ill update this thread after the first test run which will be most likely today.
mike
Posted by: slimefink
well, the buggy was finnished by my wife and test driven. ive been a mechanic for over 35 years and been an off road fan since my first trip to glamis in 1969 and ill tell ya what--this venom mamba is very well made.
the first test drive showed me that this buggy should do very well in the dunes, it gets out of "the hole" pretty good and revs well and strong. the motor has some pep even though its "new tight". the mamba is no rocket ship but for the money and what its made for it seems to be well worth the money.
my wife did a great job building the thing with a little heavy lifting help from me and shes already talking a bit of trash about how she will do this year at glamis during our x-mas trip.
the only thing ive found a bit of a drawback is the motor manual and general manual you get with the buggy and upon contacting venom ive been told ill receive a better overal manual.
we are going to our dunes this weekend and ill post the results afterwards.

I was in touch with venom today and they had to find a new tech. so ill find out about the gear ratio as soon as they contact me.
the book ratios are below for mamba.
1=3.583
2=2.167
3=1.333
4=0.900
rev=3.364
but they were not sure if this was the old or new.
but the new tech will fill me in.
are these different than the older ratios???
UPDATE; the book numbers are the "OLD" ratios, ill find out the new ratios and post them right away.
mike
Posted by: slimefink
newest news, it seems as though im ahead of the curve on the mamba updated buggy. the buggys have arrived before the updated buggy tech manuals. venom motors knows that the new edition buggys have been updated but until they get the new tech manuals they cant give any hard numbers like gear ratios etc..
little things like new gas peddle, larger gas tank, luggage rack and other less noticable improvements are easy to promote but ill have to wait on the tech guys for the other info. ill pass on the info once I receive it.
right now im trying to find a way to mount paddle tires on the thing, any suggestions would be helpfull.
mike
Posted by: slimefink
well, the weather isnt doing us any favors of late but I was able to do some limited testing on the new venom 800cc buggy. after retuning the thing (advance timing-adjust carb-small freeflow air filter etc.) we test drove the buggy and found it to be real peppy and surprisingly strong off the line in first gear. on our rural road the buggy gets through the gears well but id not recomend street use the buggy is not a street car at all.
I am impressed with the overall construction and the way it was shipped and ease of building. my wife just loves the thing and cant wait to get on the sand and hammer down. the buggy is a bit loud and we are considering a performance M/C muffler but for now its hurry up and wait to get out and roost some dunes.
we found some paddle tires with the help of a suggestion from another board member. they are 26-10-12 dunestars and we have ordered them. the only problem might be clearance bettween the tire and shock-we will see.
more later after a trip to the sand.

the first test day at the dunes has come and gone and now is the time to tell it like it is.
this 800cc venom buggy is not a 50 grand long travil high zoot rocketship, but acording to the one who built it-owns it and pilots it (my wife) the buggy is "more fun than the woman invented vibrator" and you dont have to worry about the batteries running down at the wrong time.
the buggy handles the sand-rough or smooth- very well, it corners great and has the power to go anywhere we wanted to go. it is not a head snapper but surprising in the way it gets around and up the hills. it would make it up "olds" at glamis with relative ease. we were also surprised by the fuel consumption, this buggy gets great gas mileage.
we rode the dunes here in oregon all afternoon and tried to shake any bugs loose but found none. we did all this with the buggy as it comes and without any upgrades such as paddle tires etc..our next trip we will have paddles on the thing and I look forward to seeing more smiles on the wifes face once she starts really hooking up.
now for the new news, I talked to the guys at venom motors and found out that they are offering or are about to offer a turbo kit for the 800cc buggy and its suppose to double the horsepower---wow cant wait.
contact them at www.venommotors.com for more details and phone numbers.
now id like to apologize to the person who started this post, I was e-mailed and "tuned up" for hijacking the thing, all I can say in my defense is I didnt know by adding to a post would upset anyone.

just a note, the person that "tuned me up" was not the one who started the post, I think they are called "lurkers"???

here we go again, going to the dunes--weather permitting--this saturday and with a set of paddles on the buggy this time, ill post results once we get back.
update on updates for the 800cc buggy motors. venom is offering a tubo kit for three grand complete and installed and for much less as a kit for self installation.
info@toyjunkies.com also offers the turbo kit but also a carb mod and muffler kit that adds about 10 to 12 more horespower.
this is good news because it shows that the "go fast gurus" are starting to recognize our buggys as something worth putting some R and D time in, and that the sales show that the 800cc buggys are doing well in the atv market
mike
Posted by: slimefink
to whom this may concern, as of today im offering my apologies to all who have read and believed my posts on this board and the other forum ive posted the saga of my wifes 800cc venom mamba buggy.
to understand whats going on here is to start at the beginning when after our trip to glamis this x-mas past and after my wife blew up here honda oddy, I started looking for a new buggy but it had to meet certain criteria.
after a long search we found the venom 800cc mamba and after asking alot of questions we found that it would be perfect for her except that we had heard about the very high gear ratio transmission. I called venom and told the sales staff of my concerns and was told a number of times during the purchase process that the buggy we were buying was the "new and improved" model with the new lower gear ratio trans, this sold the buggy to us and so we bought it.
now, I have bragged about this buggy and venom motors on both boards but the last few days have not only made my wife very upset but the information ive come accross has prompted me to offer my apologies. last weekend was the final shakedown trip to the dunes, new low cut paddles-carb rejet-free flow muffler---the works. the only difference bettween our first run on the dunes other than the performance stuff is the first run was with the stock knobbies and wet sand, this run was dry sand and paddles. the buggy did well on very small stuff and the flats but the hills killed it, my wife cried because she could not stay up with me.
when we got home I was mad enough to break things, but I decided to e-mail every e-mail address for roketa I could find and ask whoever if my wifes buggy had the new low ratio trans. and I sent along the frame number and a co[py of all the paperwork we got with the buggy. within 12 hours I got a reply from the brother of roketas owner confirming my fears, our buggy had the old high ratio trans. and that roketa was ordering new low ratio transmission but none would be available for a month or so and that the new buggys with the new trans will not be shipped for at least a couple of months----I called venom.
now to be honest, venom says they will make this right and they have started conversations about getting the new transmissions, but as of now the whole thing is in limbo. all I can hope for is that my words of praise and claim of the lower ratio trans didnt get anyone to buy one of these buggys, and if it did all I can say is that I was missled as well, but thats no excuse for what I posted.
im copying this to the other forum so everyone can be updated. if anyone wants me to keep posting on this subject I will.

I was answering dans post. talked to sean once again today, he says hes got the transmissions comin soon.
cant wait, venom says they will make it right with me---we will see. mabe theyll buy one of seans new transmissions and send it to me, what yall think of that??????????
I know, I know, only when hell freezes over I bet!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

need advise, I bought an 800cc buggy from venom motors out of las vegas nevada, they told me on several occasions that it had the new lower ratio trans. found out it dosnt and talked to nathan "sales manager" at venom and he said hed check on it. yesturday I was informed that venom was told that it did have the lower ratio trans. and implied that that venom was clear of any responsibility because they told me what roketa told them.
there is more to this saga, but this is the general drift of things as they stand now. nathan told me yesturday that a fix for the very high ratio trans. problem was a smaller diameter rear knobby or paddle tire and offered to "sell" me a set at a reduced price, which turns out to be a little more than his cost plus id have to pay shipping.
does this sound fair??? what do you people think venom should do???
as a side note, other dealers have told me that all the 800cc buggy dealers have always known about the trans. problems and that they have also known the "new" lower ratio transmissions would not be out until the end of july at the earliest.
your advise is needed as to what I should do next.

hey joe, im gonig to do the alt. mount fix this weekend, what sand do you ride on???? also, how much of a change was the rear tire size in hill climbing ability???
hey chris, I like the looks of the slip yoke axel fix posted on BN forum, I can see getting a pair of used "short" 4 wheel drive slip yoke drive lines, the ones that go from the transfer case to the front diff. being modded to fit--what do you think???
also, could you e-mail me the addresses of all the buggy forums you visit???

sean@super-karts.com posted these numbers as the new transmissions ratios that will be coming out of china as a replacement for the old high ratio 800cc trans.
old trans. ratios. new.

2nd-2.167. 2nd-2.8.
3rd-1.333. 3rd-1.8.

how much for the 800cc mamba turbo kit???
venom sells theres for 19 hundred plus ship.
or 2,499 installed.

you have mail, also e-mail me whatever you have on the trans. update-upgrade.
talked to venom yesturday, they are backing off thier idea of selling the new transmissions.
saying the change is not enough to justify the swap.

chris "layman" has been the "axel" guru. id seek out his advise.
the axels come off the trans "stub" and out of the drive hub. id leave.
the stub alone, its fixed in the main output gear assembly inside.
the trans. I think.

I have a question, a fellow 800cc,
buggy owner e-mailed me asking about,
a noise his makes. it is quiet cold but after,
warmup it makes a knocking sound about 3000,
rpm, but runs great and strong, what is it???
mike
Posted by: slimefink
joe; the problem with the noise is still an ongoing thing. the man found that the valves were real loose so he set them at specs, he also changed his oil and is now using 20/50 castrol gtx. the noise seems to be gone, but he will know for sure when he takes it out on a ride around his place.
chris; the axel issue has not come my way yet, but I think im going to explore the u-joint slip coupler cure. you can buy short 4 wheel drive drive shafts at just about any junkyard and adapt them to your spline side and slipspline side with little problem. but if sean comes up with slip type axel to buy off the shelf id go that way in a heartbeat.
mike
Posted by: slimefink
I would hold off until you can get assurances from the seller that the transmission ratio is the lowest one.
there seems to be a lag on the new transmissions arrival here and their addition to the new buggies.
I know that the dealers are waiting to get their hands on the buggies and have their techs make sure the lower ratio trans is in them before they stick their collective necks out again and state that the upgrade is for real.
mike
Posted by: slimefink
I have it on good authority that the new lower ratio transmissions are now comin out.
the new GK32 (2006) KTX800 has the new trans. and according to my spy who has driven the buggy its almost "too low", but works great.
the way you can tell if the 800cc buggy has the new trans. this the funny part, it not only has an "EPA" sticker on the buggy, but it also has a believe it or not, catalitic converter on the exhaust.
this should be great news for all of us who have been waiting for the lower ratio trans. to arrive.

chris,
I sent a pm to this guy about his claims and have not gotten a reply. venom has the axels for a little over a hundred bucks each. roketa does not sell the axels for 40 bucks, the guy I know has dropped his turbo price, pm me if you want to talk to him, ive seached for the last two weeks and found nobody that sells a turbo kit for 300 bucks unless its an electric hair blower unit. venom is getting the new low ratio transmissions in, one of them is mine and should be in my hands in a couple weeks, if you want one call venom and ask for nathan and tell him you heard it from me. they are also ramping up thier efforts at building up a large parts inventory for our buggies.
nathan@venommotors.com
ive not posted this on the other sites because its been a soap opera over there, if you want to post this there be my guest. and chris---stay in touch---pm me if you need to catch up on anything regarding these machines.

hello, my wife put hers together, did very well I might add.
just remember to blue loctite the important bolts and go.
around the buggy and test all bolts and nuts.
also change oil to 20/50 castrol after first run, and check.
all fluids before and after first run plus change anti freeze.
right after first run.
have fun.

hey guys, just got off the phone with nathan at venom motors and he had some very interesting news for all of the 800cc buggy people.
venom motors in las vegas now has in stock replacement axels for our buggies along with other parts. the axels are 100 bucks each which aint bad.
they also have the new low ratio trans and have more that are already "on the water" as they say . plus turbo kits for install by owner or at their shop.
contact nathan at nathan@venommotors.com or call.
1-866-838-5317.
mike
PS, almost forgot, they also have a "long travel" kit--setup for the buggies as well, it looks good and if anyone wants to see the 800cc buggy setup long travel e-mail me ive got the photos and someone could post them here, I sadly dont know how to do this yet.

hello everyone, back from an extended vacation in glamis california. four weeks total and alot was learned about the venom 800cc mamba buggy.
would like to know if you-all would like a "total" shakedown report on all the good bad and ugly we discovered about these buggies???
alot of good stuff is being reported on now in this forum, this is why im asking for your opinions, dont want to step on any toes dont ya know
mike
Posted by: slimefink
ok people here goes.
first off a short history, we bought the venom mamba 800cc buggy march 06, wifes buggy, wifes decision, only negative we could find was trans ratio to high, but was assured by venom motors the new buggies came with low ratio trans.
wife put the thing together with a bit of help from me, first observation from me--not bad for the money. soon after first run a 55 gallon drum became my wifes "spare parts bin". first to go in was the air cleaner then the exhaust from the restrictor plug to the end via a hacksaw add on an 18inch glass pack muffler. next went the rear tires, we do sand---nuff said, got new itp paddles made for these new sixe buggies.
first trip to dunes, ran ok but it was evident the trans ratio was too high, contacted roketa found out the new low ratio trans wasnt available yet but would be soon. contacted nathan at venom and was assured they would make it right.
checked plugs found a real lean situation so got out my trusty box of motorcycle jets and rejetted the card--much better power now especially with and 8 degree advance on the timing, and the old jets went in the bin.
the lights didnt work on high beam so I just combined the two circuits so all 4 lights come on--easy fix.
since it would be an unknown period of time before the new trans would be here I decided to go to a smaller diameter paddle tire and we took the buggy to the dunes for a final test before we leave for vacation--glamis dunes calif. the buggy ran and climbed better.
nathan at venom motors contacted me to inform us that the new trans was in and available, but we were loaded to leave for glamis, so he shipped it to auto zone in brawley calif. just 26 miles from glamis. we made the trip to brawley and thanks to the store manager--victor-- we picked up the trans and back at camp the wife installed it in 2.5 hours with a bit of help once again from me.
after test run all she said was "wow" much better, the new trans woke the buggy right up. during the trans swap she also installed the two travel limiting straps--thanks for the R&D and tip chris--to the two rear shocks. and now for the ultimate test on the dunes.
the trouble began 10min. into the first run, the buggy overheated and blew the recovery jug off the buggy--not good. got the thing back to camp and found a bunch of stuff that needed my attention. first thing found was that at idle she ran high and rough this is a sure sign of a vacume leak and I found that the secondary vacume can was not working on the carb and the vacume leak was because the diaphram was blown. so I plugged the vacume line and following a tip from steve on this forum I made the secondaries manual via a 10
cent ziptie--photo available, just pm me with e-mail--. then I found the thermostat permanantly closed--another toss into the bin-- then I found that the temp sensor on the radiator didnt work, ok fine I bypassed it making the fan run whenever the engine is running by using the ingnition actuating wire to the alternator and running the fan wire direct to it. this wire is only hot when ignition is on and doesnt harm or hinder alternator at all, but during this fix I found something very interesting, these fans run in either direction and this buggys fan sucked air through the radiator towards the motor, dumb I know but thats how it was set up. so I set it up to blow air through the radiator out the rear of the buggy and low and behold the thing runs warm and perfect, and with a coolant burp bottle made from a sports bottle strapped to the bar alongside the radiator the buggy never ran hot again.
thats it, the good--bad and ugly, the rest of the trip was fantastic and the wife had a grand time running all over the dunes, and yes she does climb very well, not lightspeed but good enough to top OLDS and comp and every hill she wanted to climb. the axels are in great and perfect shape and im sure the straps will make them last longer.
now for the almost final appraisal because ya just never know when you hammer a buggy in the dunes. the buggy is well worth the money spent, sure it had problems but the off road world we live in comes with a tough and rough path that very few buggies sandcars quads and dirtbikes companys have spent years and billians of dollars to make the perfect off road vehicle and still havent, some have come close but a look at the amount of aftermarket suppliars of "upgrade" parts kinda shows me what the real truth is, "if you plan on off roading be prepared to fix things from time to time--period". the people that make these buggies had to make them to be street legal and off road worthy and I think that given their lack of experiance they did pretty good, and lets face it they are very cheap to purchase in the first place so doing some fixes and mods should not come as a big surprise.
thats it, had fun, hope this helps and happy new year.

I just purchased a 800 cc kart to enjoy with the family. I bought it from venom motors located in las vegas nv. I took it out this last weekend and ran it at the dunes. What a piece. It it good on the flats but when you try to ride the bowls it is not there at al. I am looking to do some upgrades and i was wondering if someone could send me some tips of what they have done.
Posted by: lopezd1587
I took it to dumont dunes. It was good on the flats but trying to climb the hill was another sotry. It was fine on some of the small hills but no way for competition hill. I admit that i only aired down the tires as the dealer claimed and it did help but i did not caryy any paddles. That is my next resort. The torque is only in first and second gear 3rd and 4th are not even useful. I am looking to do some performance upgrades but i have found nothing so far. The product is pretty new so i am looking for some help. I am contemplating of going to a whole new motor and gear box but i will wait to see what happens. I was a little upset at the performance but the only thing that i had to compare was to the 70-80k machines out there. It worked well with two small kids.
Posted by: lopezd1587
I appreicate the information. I am intrested to know how they fabricated the manifold. I am intested to know if he can fabricate another one. I am willing to pay for his time and services. If is incredibly hard to find any mods for this right now.

Thunder does use the same ingine, it also has bigger shocks, different suspension and frame, turbo option, guages etc.
Toy junkies sells the more traditional 800 with the turbo as well.
MotoUS has a different suspension with 24" gas shocks all a round and a beefed up front end.
Dave at awesome buggy has video of his hurricane in the desert.
They are all a little different so make sure you get what you want.
I have the Motous Cheetah 800, I have only had it out once but I have been impressed so far. I have posted a review on the web site listed above with pics in some of the threads. We rode it hard in the mud and took it over some jumps.
IT is not the quad killer that some have hoped for, and in excels in different areas than a rhino. This is not going to competewith 50k sand rails but for the money it is a lot of fun. I bought mine off of e-bay for a steal,Iwas really looking for one of the smaller ones when I came upon this so my expectations were never super high, but it has exceeded them so far.
Only time will tell as far as reliability and performance parts.

Posted by: layman
I have the Motous and I am impressed with the quality so far, my only real complaint is the electrical system....plan on replacing some fuses and connectors. It has an upgraded suspension over the Awsomebuggy Hurricane that is shown on the video. (larger shocks and reinforced dual A arms)
I have seen the smaller joyner 250's and was impressed, I have heard good things about them. I believe their 650 uses an Isuzu motor designed for mini trucks, and all of the 800's are built for the suzuki "City Baby" automobile.
The 800 is a clone of the Chevy Geo motor only smaller. I have been told that replacement parts may only be a chevy dealer away. (we'll see)
Joyner also has a different transmission with lower gears, The other 800 are basically a front wheel drive auto transaxle and are set up as a manual three speed with an overdrive. Because they are auto gears they are geared higher for getting that small motor up to highway speeds, therefore, they are a little to tall for the dunes.
hope this helps.
Chris

keep us posted,
would like to know your impressions. I have found that the alternator bracket comes into contact with the axle on hard jumps, let me know if you have the same problem. There is someone at the Bugg*ynews site that has manufactured a fix. (delete *)
would like to know if they actually put in a different tranny or gears.
Posted by: layman
slimefink,
did they happen to post the new gear ratios in the spec sheet? I have the Motous Cheetah and the only thing that it needs is lower gearing. May have to contact Venom and see if the have access to them.
Chris
Posted by: layman
Wow! I am confused, I thought the thread originated asking for input and feedback on the 800cc. I thought that is exactly what you were doing.
Chris
Posted by: layman
Joyners 1600 is on Thunders web site. For the twenty grand their asking, you can buy a mini sand rail made in the us.
Seems a little high, of course that is what all of the 150cc - 250 cc owners said about my 800cc, so I guess it is in what you want.
Posted by: layman
I have the "new" ratios somewhere, but as no one actually has them yet , it is kind of pointless.
they were roughly 3.9 - 2.6 - 1.8 - 1.2 reverse was about the same.
would make a big difference...
Joyner may have the lower geared transmissions, but I have not verified that yet.
Chris
Posted by: layman
Mike,
I was not implying that I had the new transmission ratio's in my buggy, I meant that I had the numbers for it somewhere. I have had mine on order from Sean at superkarts for over a month, and he posted them on buggyn*ws.com a while ago.
As for Joyner, this is a different buggy from a different factory than Roketta. The only reason we know a different transmission exists is that David (factory chairman) claims to have them on the joyner for some time. I can not state this as fact, however, much of the feedback we have gotten seems to back this up.
sorry for the confusion
Chris
Posted by: layman
We have moved ours up as well, we also cut a half circle in the bottom of the bracket ( lots of extra space ) to get more clearance.
I have wasted the CV joints on both of my axles, we are looking at axle replacement options as we speak. Will post whats available when we find something out. No one has them in stock, 4-6 weeks delivered from China. There are some custom options and the posiblility for chevy sprint swap that we are looking into.
If you have not done so already, strap the rear shocks. There is too much travel on the CV's and it is causing problems when you get it airborn.
Chris
Posted by: layman
In this case, that may not be enough. Our shocks are 23" with no load, and 22" with the weight of the buggy. You need to find the length of the shock where the CV becomes the limiting factor and subtract about an inch from that to allow for strech. I have not done this as my axles are thousands of miles away being custom built... one person strapped his at 21" but you would loose about an inch of travel from the normal loaded position. I do not know if this is the correct length yet...
Chris
Posted by: layman
For your other questions, the axles were fairly easy to remove. I had never done it before and was able to do it in a couple of hours. The length of time a CV will last is directly related to how you drive it ... Mine did not last five hard rides, lots of jumps and wheel spin. These chinese CV's are not hardened like US stuff, we are looking into options for replacement. Will keep you posted, and happy to answer all that I can. These are brand new to the market, and we are still trying to figure out what we have and what we can do with them. I think they have some potential, but the learning curve can be frustrating.
Chris
Posted by: layman
Mike,
I did not do to bad from memory, as far as the gear ratios are concerned...
I am not sure which 4x4 slip yoke axle fix you are talking about from buggy news. Is it the plunging U-joint style that jungleman had custom made ? ( I think they were blue and silver ) Mick is still searching chevy sprint style axles, there is new hope... will keep you posted if it works.
I only vist one other place besides here and buggynews.com, and that is mini buggy.net (at least not regularly)
Unleashed,
tell me more about your transmissions, what are they, how much are they, do you have them in stock or what is the wait, are they out of china or a different fix? inquiring minds want to know...
Chris

unleashed,
where did you go???
that was great info, I was planning on referring people here to check it out.
I would still like to know if the tranny's are in stock, so let us know after talking to your suppliers.
Chris
Posted by: layman
Joe,
CV's will "klunk" into gear or on take off if bad. there should be no movement between the axle and CV either up and down or rotational.
Changing timing will effect power.... I believe it is -retard for lower end, torque- advance for higher end horsepower. Just my understanding, not fact.
lower suspension by - shorter shocks ???-
hope this helps
Chris
Posted by: layman
Joe,
Chevy sprint axles are male and we have female CV housings. I do not know if the axle stubs will come out, if they do, maybe a sprint will then fit???
I have not had any luck with local axle shops, they look at me as if I have three heads. The chinese replacements will have the same problem. I am looking into custom making them from VW CV's or a plunging U-joint. I have heard that maybe a slip yoke from a small 4x4 pick up might be made to work also.
I am still undecided, and looking. Let me know what you end up doing.
Chris
Posted by: layman
I got tired of trying to figure it out, I sent my axles to Sean at Superkart. He is supposed to be fabricating a set of plunging u-joints to fit our buggies. It has been two months and he still does not have anything, but I am hoping it will be worth the wait. If he gets this figured out, I believe he will begin to sell the completed axles to others.
Chris
Posted by: layman
I do not have a mamba, so I can not speak to them specifically. I own the 800cc Cheeta which is no longer available, but is based on the same Roketa platform. I was one of the original owners of this model and got it for a steal, so I expected some of these issues. If you are interested in this type of kart, and can spend a little more, I would recommend going with Joyner or Superkarts. They are using a slightly different platform and have some of these issues worked out.
At this point, I am not unhappy with the purchase, just a little frustrated with working out the bugs. I believe that it has lots of potential, especially for the cost.
On a side note, Sean is sending back my axles. He is getting the final numbers together on a fix. It will likely run about a grand and include plunging axles from Blumenthal with the U-joints and new machined splined shafts. It will be expensive, but should be a permanent fix. He will then need to find out if it will be cost effective on his part if he needs to purchase equiptment to do this. Once I get mine back, I will take it to the shop I found that specializes in shortenting axles for racing. They should be able to get me some answers even if Sean is unable to get us a solution.
Chris
Posted by: layman
Currie66,
WOW, I just paid 400.00 a month ago for the pair of axles. I could not find them at Roketa .com, could you post a link for me?
Are the turbos for our buggies? I have seen them for around 2000, at three hundre, I would get one.
ddpettin, You might not be able to get your money back on the Cheetah. I would like to hear your reaction to both machines, Pro and con etc. Have you modified either of them?
Chris
Posted by: layman
Mike,
good to hear from ya.
I am up and running, have strapped the shocks and started doing the rejet. The 115 and 190 were to rich for me, I am going to work on it some more this week end. I have also ordered a set of "glow guages and a billet aluminum guage pod, you can see it on the other site.
I thought the prices quoted above seemed low, but we can always hope! The turbo is not really an option for me (unless I could get them for that low of a price) I just really do not NEED it. Mick has uploaded an entire engine manual for the suzuki F8B on the other site, seems to be a match for our motor (for the most part) Do you know what venom is selling the transmission for?
Chris
Posted by: layman
Is the cam for the 800cc buggy?
I know of someone who has done a re-grind, and has had good results. He posted his Dyno on buggynews.com
I know of several people looking for something like this, depending on price and performance. Are you going to build it for low end torque, or top end hp?
Keep us posted.
Chris
Posted by: layman
lots of mods available for this buggy.
Sean at supercarts has a header and weber carb available.
Venom motors has a turbo charger available.
Start with k&n air filter, and new exhaust (I got mine from desert kart) change the jets. Mine is set for 105 primary jet and 175 secondary. round mikuni will fit. Adjust timing to suit your needs. They come stock at about 6Degrees but many people have theirs set for 10 degrees above TDC.---you will notice a big change with just these mods.
Mick at buggy news has done a cam regrind and shaved the head to get more power as well.
Also, strap your shocks...The CV joints are coming apart within a few hours, there is to much droop on these buggies. I have not had a problem with mine since straping the shocks. Gorilla axle is working on better CV's and axles for us.
They run real good with some TLC... BR>
Let us know about the CAM...it would a great option to have.
Chris

Flojob,
did you ever figure the radiator problem out? Try checking the electrical connections. Mine was not allowing the fan to turn on. I put a new connector on it and have not had a problem since.

Jojano,
what did you do to repair your CV and axle. I know you where working on a Joyner hybrid...did you make up something or did you just replace t hem with the same Chinese Junk. If you made up something, could you tell us what you did and how they are holding up for you?
I just replaced mine with chinese junk, but am now wanting something better. I know the chevy sprint tripod and bearings and outer hub will swap, and I am thinking about using the joyner inner hub.
I do not want to get better transmission anly to hook it up to junk axles.
PS I have also strapped the shocks.
Chris
Posted by: layman
Jojano,
I would love to see some pics of the suspension limiters. I have already strapped mine.
What are you having done to the joyners to make them fit? I know the outer hub will not swap.
I am going to use the outer CV and spindle from a 85-88 Chevy sprint, as well as the tripod, bearings, race etc.
and use the regular chinese axle. I am looking for a stronger Inner CV housing. I may look into having the chinese one hardened.
I was wondering if the Joyner inner CV would match the roketta style axle, but the axle looked quite a bit beefier.

Flojob,
I would like to hear more about the cam. Can you post the numbers you changed to?? did you regrind for low or top end. what kind of performance increase did you get?
I may be interested, but I just ordered a set of professionally fitted chrome molly CV axles, and the lower geared transmission for 1200.00 so I will need to build up some more brownie points with the wife before I can order anything esle

I just installed the new low range transmission and the custom"gorilla" axles from superkart.com. made a huge difference in climbing and acceleration.
Mike cove at 3tech.com is familiar with this motor and has shaved the head, ported and polished it, and did a cam regrind for a member at buggynews.com. It is a suzuki F8b motor, you can down load the engine manual from BN as well. It was used in the suzuki city baby, mighty boy 4x4, and capuchino as well as many others.
There are many upgrades available...turbo, headers, weber carb, parts can be ordered through awsomebuggy.com or venom motors

Earlier you mentioned the old ratios are:
1=3.583
2=2.167
3=1.333
4=0.900
rev=3.364
I am assuming that is what you actually got? What are the ratios you were expecting?
Also, when you say your wife's kart couldn't keep up, what are you riding that she couldn't keep up with?
Dan

WOW!!! Now that is expensive!!! I think I will be leaving my kart the way it is!

Has anyone had any experiences with the Joyner 800cc kart and the Roketa 800cc kart? I have both the 650cc Joyner and the 800cc Roketa and it is a toss up as to which I like better. I am considering selling my 800cc Roketa and purchase the 800cc Joyner just so I will have the two karts from the same manufacturer (same parts/service). What is your experience/opinions?
Thanks,
Dan

I have already determined that I am not going to get out what I paid. I have not done any modifications to the 800cc Cheetah other than a new throttle pedal. I have added a performance kit that Thunder Motorsports sells for their 650cc. The performance kit has made a significant difference. My father also has a 650cc from Thunder Motorsports (without the performance kit) and he has a hard time keeping up!
Once I sell the Cheetah, I am debating between getting a Yamaha Rhino or Thunder Motorosports 800cc. I have also looked at Tomcar which is a very nice vehicle and very well made but has a big price tag on it. In fact last time my wife and I went up to Sedona, we rented a Tomcar. I was impressed with its ability to climb! We have also looked at Thunder Motorsports 1600cc, but again, that has a very hefty price tag. We don't go out to the dunes as much as we go trail riding.
Will let you guys know how things pan out!

I have quads and a buggy. I bought the buggy because of my daughter. It's much safer to ride her around in. The buggy is a Baja Dune 150 from Pepboys, $2100 out the door. In stock form, the buggy has no low end at all. After about $1000 in mods, it will spin the tires and fishtale on gravel or loose dirt. It tops out around 34 mph, but gets there very quick. I can tell you it feels like you are going alot faster than 34 mph. This might be another option if you are looking into a buggy and want to ride other around with you. I still ride the quads around, but the buggy is so much more fun.

Hi,
I am new to this forum but not to sand and dirt . I bought an 800cc rail 3 months ago and am extremely happy with it now. Now, because I have taken out the dealer for issues. You can't talk to Roketa because they don't deal with the
customers ? And then the dealers who I baught from Awesome Buggy do not know a thing about what they are selling.
Anyways, after the first hour of riding the module in the distributor fried. It took me about 3-4 days to find the entire module, magneto & plate from china but I found it . Compared to 3 months with no response from awesome buggy.
GM wanted $325 for it and it wired in reverse. It was a pain in the you know what. I got 3 of them for $3.25 . That shows how we get ripped off on mark ups. And I think this one runs better than the stock one. $325 GM - $3.25 China. If you are having a problem with the alternator hitting the right rear axle it's an easy fix.
About the gearing, I put 23x10.5x12 paddle masters on mine and it realy works well. I am using 2nd gear alot more.
Especially on the larger dunes. I would like to change the gears also . If you have any luck please let me know.
Thanks and I hope this helps
Joe
Posted by: Jojano
Remove the alternator and belt first. Then remove both alt. brackets. Put the bottom hole, on the top bracket ,on the top hole on the engine, Tighten. Now the bottom bracket , there is an exposed threaded hole on the belt side of the alt. bracket about 2-3" higher than original hole. This is the new position spot. You must drill one new hole between the two existing holes on the bracket. Mount and tighten it gives you about 2-3 inches more clearance. It is working for me. It's to bad I made this move after I bent the right rear axle.
Hope this works
Joe
Posted by: Jojano
How do you strap the shocks? and will it lower the buggy any? How long will the cvs last? Is it hard to remove the axles?I need to rebend one. I have alot of questions sorry. Anything else I don't want to know about haha.
Thanks Joe
Posted by: Jojano
Mike,
The majority of our riding is at Pismo Beach CA. Steap dunes not really big like Glamis or Dumont but all sand.
Sometimes we do local dirt mostley flat. The first set of paddles I put on where 25x10x12 paddle masters 1 1/8 paddle
,it rode ok not great.
I never used Third gear and hit midway 2nd gear about 40 mph. The span between gears is way to long so I
went to a 22x11x12 Sand Star 7/8 paddle, much lighter tire. Huge Difference, quicker off the line by two times and using 2nd gear on all hills not just first. Feals like theres more power for sure.
How can you tell if your cvs are going out?
Does changing the engine timeing help power?
The rear axles have way to much downward angle.
How can you lower the rear suspension to get the axles more level?
Joe

Hey Mike,
Thanks for the info. I had to take my cv joints apart this weekend ,there toast, at least one side.Should the trans. shaft come out or just the CV houseing slide off expozeing the shafts on both sides?
Are these something you can fix localy? My drivers side upper completely exploded the outer bearing case got dinged up pretty bad. Will the chevy sprint axle replace this? It looks simular. I know a local axle place hopefuly they know.
Joe
Posted by: Jojano
Hi ,
Have you found out what the noise is? I have not been able to use my rail for 2 months because
of my destroyed rear cv's. And have no sight of any new ones. Extremely frustrating. I purchased
one rear axle from Joyner motorsports because they told me all the trans. stubs are the same,
witch they are except the axle sizes are much longer. The make up of the inner cv is much better
than what have. Triple tripod bearing thing. They have six large ball bearings enclosed in a round
housing that gives you about 2 more inches of travel and no possibility of falling appart. The problem
is the spline size on there's is much larger, were the bearing slides on. Also the axle is about 1/4 inch
thicker in girth. If anyone knows of an extra upper cv housing + tripod bearing let me know.
Thanks Joe
Posted by: Jojano
Chris
Do you know how to take apart the, LOWER hub, cv-joint? I am going to cut and put on a knew
spline on the Joyner axle to fit my 800cc cv-joint, if I could figure out how to take mine apart to get
the spline size.
or is this possible at all ?

Hi Mike,
How's your Mamba Running? Hope things are good, mines running great.
I was wondering if you have purchased new Wheels for your Buggy yet . I am
getting tired of swapping paddles to tires. How do you measure the lug pattern
if you would know. or what is the lug size/distance. I baught a set of rear Skat-track
Diggers that are 23+ x 10.5 x 12. They have 10 , 11inch paddles. These are the
best set so far. I also added rear suspension limiting pads, so the CV's won't get
damaged.
Thanks Joe
Posted by: Jojano
Hey Mike,
Is the Ratio that much different than what we have . and how about the horse power difference.
That is pretty cheap I will be getting one also if there are any left. How can I tell which trani. I have, older vs newer. I am sure mine is older it seems quit gutless at times when needed. I will be going to Pismo for New Years everyone have a great holiday.
Joe
Posted by: Jojano
Mine is older than I baught it in Feb. 2006
I also called Venom Motors and they said they' ve
sold the one they had, I guess that was to you. The next order of tranis.
will be in a couple of weeks or months or something like that maybe someone
could get a better idea for me. Have a good one
Joe
Posted by: Jojano
Hey chris,
I had ordered both axles from Joyner and Venom and the Venom axles came in first and are still in great shape.
The key is to strap the axles at 21" then put limiters between the suspension and the frame of the buggy. You can pick them up at " Auto Zone" .I will send photos if any one wishes. I sent the joyner axles out to be retrod to this buggy and am still waiting for them . The difference is that the are about six inches longer and have a different hub axle.
Joe

Does anyone know if they make a rear skid plate for these buggys. I tore off my
only support below the shifter linkage. I also swapped my rear a-arms to get a tow in,
instead of tow out affect. Including moving back the shock mounts to get less downward
travel. I will post pics on the upgrades this weekend if anyone wants to see them. let me
know about the skid plate
thanks Joe
Posted by: Jojano
Hey Rick,
Its sounds like you baught mine with the same problems. I have the 800cc Roketa also. It does take a while to brake in the motor. Probably about thirty hours. After the first hour my ignition also died. Once I fixed it, it still ran rough for quite a while. It sounds like the Ignition module inside the distributor. All of the parts from this buggy come from a 1987 Chevy Sprint Import. Local auto parts should have all the parts. Make sure you strap your rear shocks with 21" straps or you will have major problems. About the trani. I know of about 3-4 places the sell the Lower ratio trani.
Venom Motors?, Awesome Buggy( in stock), Unleashed Motorsports(in stock).
good luck Joe
Posted by: Jojano
Remove the rubber plug on the trani. Put a wrench on the crank by the alt. belt. Turn clockwise at the same time look through the unplugged trani. hole with a flashlight until you see numbered lines. Look for the no. 10. Go three lines clockwise there should be a white line . If not put one with some white out. Make sure key is off or disc. battarie.
good luck

Hi Mike,
Do you know if the ratios that you have listed below are for the model year 2006 or model year 2007 for the Roketa 800cc? We are possibly going to be buying one directly from Roketa and want to make sure we get the right one.
Just to confirm from your notes -
The old ratios for model year 2005 are:
1st-3.583
2nd-2.167
3rd-1.333
4th-0.900
and the new ones that should be on 2006 version are:
1st-3.9091
2nd-2.8
3rd-1.8
4th-1.0357
Do you know what the ratios are supposed to be for the 2007 model?
Just want to make sure we get the right model year - your insight is greatly appreciated.
Thank you,
Sherri

Thank you Mike.
I just want to clarify the definition of a lower gear because it looks like the numbers on the newer versions for 2006/07 are higher and for 2005 they are lower??
The old ratios for model year 2005 are:
1st-3.583
2nd-2.167
3rd-1.333
4th-0.900
and the new ones that should be on 2006 version are:
1st-3.9091
2nd-2.8
3rd-1.8
4th-1.0357
Which of the numbers above do I want to ensure that I have when I buy our buggy?.
I apologize in advance for sounding ignorant and again your input on this is greatly appreciated! BR>

I am looking for a 250cc go kart i was wondering where i could get one. I want one that is fast about 60+ if that is possible.
Thanks.

Oh...thank you for that information well what do you think would suit my needs 4 speed and offroad a quad or a larger go kart ect...
Thank You
Posted by: invador
not sure of my budget right now and the terrain is pretty much everything besides the road only ride on that 2 get me some where... but about the budget just any thing under $6500 i guess.

doesnt matter
Posted by: invador
alright how bout $5200 at the max now and btw im a trail n arround the house kinda guy that still likes to pass those husky quads ez
Posted by: invador
Nah nothing used sorry 4 not announcing i been looking at the raptor 350 and some 300-400 hondas and maybe the ltz how much could i get those for I live in NY would go about 100-150 miles 2 get a good discount
Posted by: invador
nah i want sumthin with a lil more kick. dont wanna put much into it 4 a while, just want something faster than wat my quad does about 45 tops. since im basicly only 1 in my family who knows how to clutch no 1's gonna ride my quad, only on the back if they want. ive been looking at the raptor 350 it sounds like a good deal, just a small reverse problem but im sure i could live with it. i also heard that if you need more speed n power out of it you can make it a beast with not a whole bunch of money.
Posted by: Bigboredhonda
I have one here at my shop and it is FAST its a 4speed i had it running 65 in 3rd. It does not have a whole lot of weight on the front so it is hard to hang corners at speeds. It does have a remote control winch on the front. i also have driven the 1000cc 4 cyclinder model its ok but it is allot heavier and bigger not as good of turning radius as the 800. Over all they are both good carts.
Posted by: currie66
you can get these axles from roketa.com for 40.00 the left and right are the same it took me 2 days to get mine then i broke the other side thanks for the altanator fix . these people are just pissing me off . also turbos from jaw wherehouse in japan are only 300.00. the cost to regear a trasmission is out of this world. we just need more power and wider tires. any one have any ideals.

I
just bought the 800cc Roketa. I live in chandler. I'd like to see if you have had the same problems i've had. Thanks Gary My number is 602 763 1496

I rode mine two days. and It already quit. I don't think I'm getting spark. As well as the dealer must have over filled the oil. I pulled the air filter and it waws full of fresh oil. I brought it home. I haven;t had time to investigate yet. i think the coil might have been bad. Thanks Gary
Posted by: GoCartsinarizona
I bought one. The first day it quit four times. It started back up right away. The second day it quit twice. The last time it wouldn't start. I pulled the air filter and the cannister was full of oil. And so was the air filter. It doesn't appear as if the oil got in the carb. They come filled with oil. And after loosing the oil at the filter, the dipstick still show full. So they may have overfilled it. I hope thats all it is. I'm getting fuel to the carb. So I don't think i'm getting spark. I haven't grounded a plug to see yet. I'm gong to work on it this weekend. I'll let you know how it turns out. If anybody has had problems with these, especially if there simular please advise. Thanks Gary in arizona.

I got the Radiator figured out it was a loose wire. If anyone is interested or knows someone interested I am selling my buggy its the new 800cc one from venommotors. I am selling it for $6000 even. I am a dealer for Venommotors so if anyone needs anything let me know i will try and help you out. Sounds like a broken record with the 800cc, the lack of power . I bought the GK-32 model and was so pissed
at the dunes. Then I found the turbo kit . This is the most fun out of all my banshee's, hondas, and 4x4's put together . Holly crap , point it at a dune , stand on the throttle and you will clime anything. The price is pretty
steep at 2900.00 but it turns a turd into a mini rail that runs with the quads.
Posted by: 69bigkid
Yep on a dyno(yes I know use spellcheck-NOT dino) send me an e-mail and i'll send you a copy. spike2@peak.org
The only mod was a radiator swap, The turbo creates a lot of heat and the factory crappy rad wont take it.
I installed a suzuki tracker radiator with minor mod's such as mounts. I found a NAPA lower hose that hooks rite up
and a two piecs top hose. The kit includes a large tube header, all the bolts, hoses, and fittings needed.
YES with 10 psi. of boost witch wont hurt parts it made 112 hp.
Posted by: 69bigkid
Joe you might want to check your source on the engine info for the Roketa's. IT is not a chevy sprint or a suzuki swift engine. It is a toyota block and a suzuki head. It was sold in China "ONLY" in a car that slips my memary rite now.
No american parts will fit this engine. It was never exported from China. Hours of research have led me to know who and where these are made. Your best bet for parts is to call Roketa in Onterio California (909)975-4488 ext. 207 and talk to Toby , he has helped me alought with my GK-D32. Good luck , Greg
Posted by: 69bigkid
Hey mike , Its west coast "greg" from BN. Did you make it out for spring break. I e-mailed you where I was going but didnt hear from ya. We had a kick a$$ time at winchester bay.

10-4 on the rural life Mike , I love my 25 acres and dont need the big city crap. I will let you know when I'm headed your way next , we need to hook -up these buggys .
Rick if you want the best hi-pro parts go to letzgoracingoffroadcenter.com , Bryan is getting his site completed so be patient, his parts are worth the wait. I have his turbo kit on my 800 , and like is so much I now sell them.
E-mail me at spike2@peak.org and I will send you the dyno and some pictures. Greg

First time in...
Just picked up a 2005 Roketa 800 and took it to the hard desert for the first time. Yes, lots of fun and it ran great, for about a day. First, it started to idle like crap, then stalled unless you feathered the throttle. Next, it would not start, just cranked over, no spark from the coil wire. Two separate issues I think. I replaced the coil, power to the coil is good, fuses good, still no-go.Any thoughts?
The trans is to tall, I see folks talk of a lower geared unit, is there only one choice and who sells it?
Last, the ignition rotor is now missing, I think my dog ate it, any idea where to get one or what to even ask for at the local parts store?
Thanks in advance for any help on this.
Rick

Thanks for the info, I will call Roketa, I know there is a shop real close to me in Lake Elsinore, anybody got the phone #? I want to check his hi-po stuff.

whats up everyone, I have been looking at the roketa 800cc 4 seater for my wife as an alternative to the jacked up unstable golf carts, and stumbled across this site, the one we have been looking at, as it was told to me is a geo metro 3 cyl, we drove it and it seems very fun to drive (although the shifter seems to need some brass bushings or short shift kit really sloppy) I am a BMW master Tech so I am familar with a wrench and not afraid to get my hands dirty with this thing, does anyone have the 4 seater and if so what are the known problems, or are they pretty much the same as the 2 seaters?
Posted by: m3123
thanks I will check it out there is a guy here in town that has the blue one and as a I said we drove it and had a great time in it, but its primary use would be a grocery getter/ get the kids to school type of thing and I didnt feel comfortable in the jacked up golf cart (are they really designed to do that?) they just felt way to tippy, so the owner of the shop worked us a hell of a price so I am difinatly considering it, I think however we will get a second set of rims and put street tires on it until it is ready to go off roading, anyhow I will check out his site Thanks John

I have been reading alot on it, and for what I am going to use it for I think it will work out great
Posted by: m3123
HEY all its me again still have not pulled the trigger yet, after reading some of these posts I am wondering if anyone is have the same issues with the fuel injected models (distrubutor, stalling, etc) the one we have been looking at is the 4 seater with fuel injection, if so has anyone thought about putting another type of small lightweight motor in here, say a turbo or supercharged 4 cy from toyota or honda? then a 50 gallon drum of locktight?

slimefink,
I am looking at purchasing the mamba 800cc or the new 1000cc buggy. I wondered if you could send any pictures and instructions of the mods you needed to make to your 800cc mamba to make it work at the dunes? I too am purchasing this buggy for my wife. The price works for me compared to a rhino or ranger.
Thanks!

I have had the fuel injection model for a year now,It has a lot of spank, sounds like quite a bit more than the carb. models.

OK, I have read through this topic and you guys definitely have some experience now with these 800cc buggies.
I just purchased one and have a couple of questions:
- towing? I know this is a can of worms, but could these be flat towed with a tow bar? other than tire wear...is there a tranny problem running these in Neutral w/o the motor on? Will the upper bearings/gears get lubed? Anything else I should know. (reason: don't want the hassle of storing a trailer and associated dead tow weight!!)
-Trailering, is there a good light weigh trailer that somebody seems to have had success with.
Any feedback would be appreciated.

Help!!!
I see a number of posts saying set the timing at 6-8 deg BTDC. I can't find a timing mark anywhere.... Am I missing something??? I moved the distributor by sound and feel, but want to be careful of not advancing it to much.
I looked in the manual people have referred to, but it says the timing is in Chapter 9-9 and that part of the manual is not posted....

I have been researching this buggy for awhile now and have been looking at the fuel injected model. Have you had any of the problems that have plagued those in past few years? It seems that the fule injection has solved some of the power issues and Roketa has seemed to have worked out some of the bugs.

hello again, well the day finally arrived and with good weather we took the venom mamba to the dunes wearing a set of new paddle tires.
I stated before that this buggy was surprising but not amazing and climbed hills well, that was then this is now.
with the paddles the buggy has a real need for more power, the same hills topped with relative ease with the stock tires were a struggle with the paddles. the motor had trouble getting up on pipe, out of the hole was ok but the roleout was strained.
now to be fair, every off road or on road for that matter, vehicle ive ever owned ive added more power goodies to up the performance and it is the case with my wifes buggy as well. she anticipated this and as the test ride ended she just looked at me and said "more power", this is her way of saying "honey, its yours--hop it up-- will you please" .
upon getting home the project began with an inspection, I pulled the plugs and found a very lean running motor, and other observances lead to this all around appraisal, the engine needs more air and fuel, and the exhaust needs to be opened up.
Ive been in contact with venom and they offer a turbo kit, installed or for a reduced price in kit form with easy instructions for at home installation. Ive also talked to toyjunkies about thier turbo kit, but also thier carb-filter-exhaust mod kit. now toyjunkies no longer sells the 800cc buggies but they assured me that they will always sell and support the 800cc high performance upgrades.
so now for the big decision, the carb mod kit adds about 20% more power and seems to be the most bang for the "low buck", but the test results for the turbo upgrade seems to tell a very good story, everyone ive talked to says the same thing, that adding a turbo really wakes the 800cc motors up big time.
once the decision is made ill post another update and evaluation of the kit and then my thoughts on the performance improvement or lack there of.
my wife says she needs more power and I know now that it exists inside this motor, stay tuned.

"LOWER" ratios are numerically higher. And visa versa. For example, a 4.10 ratio would be a "LOWER" gearset than a 3.55 ratio.

I've ridden in a turbo-charged version of the 800cc Sand Viper at the Buttercup sand dunes. The suspension was great, and it was easily capable of climbing any hill it was pointed at. But I personally would still have liked more power.

There's a big difference between the multivalve higher-revving performance 800cc ATV type engines and the low-revving industrial-type engines these "Karts" are using. Bombardier is rating their CAN-AM 800cc Renegade at 61 horsepower. These 800cc Karts are lucky if they have half that horsepower. And most of these Karts are as heavy or heavier than the average utility type ATV.

I have yet to hear of a 250cc buggy that would surpass about 55 MPH. Even if you find one that'll do 60+, it'll be worthless on anything but flat pavement. It won't have enough low end power to pull its own weight up most hills.
