Rhino's are quite capable in the desert envirnment for duning etc... however, you need to limit your expectations... Do not think for a minute that you will be capable of blasting up the face of a dune with the same velocity that you can on a Banshee or similar ATV. You are pulling a lot of weight, and in essence, you are riding a two up grizzly, only heavier.. so you be the judge....

Here are some pictures from Presidents Day in Glamis. We take ours to the desert all the time. It could definately use a little more power, especially with the bigger tires, but it goes through pretty much anything. Desert Rhino

At the moment, it has an HMF pipe for performance stuff. I just got my Dynojet kit the other day and haven't had a chance to get it back on the Dyno. Stereo, rollbar and seats for the accessorie stuff and just about finished with the long travel suspension.

We had a CDI box on it but it went bad. We haven't replaced it yet, to many other things going on. It will run about 46 on hard pack and about 42 in the sand. We are looking at trying to get better acceleration, not necessarily top speed.

How well do these things perform in the desert? I ride desert almost exclusively...sand washes, steep sand and rock hills, canyons, and lots of whoops and off camber stuff. I think my kids would really like to ride with me in this thing.

Thanks for the response. That thing sure looks fun!

rescuediver...I don't think she's going to budge on the issue anytime soon. I guess I've come to agree because we are tied up in so many investments this year it may not be smart to take on the payment. I can't pay cash either because we are putting down everything we have on a vacation / investment home this year. Who knows thoough, if the money is right I may be able to get one come fall.
My expectations aren't too high for the Rhino as for comparing to an ATV. I'm just wondering how well it handles the desert terrain and if I will feel like I just got a beating if I take it on one of our long desert rides with a passenger. I'm sure it has enough power to do what I want it for but I'm not so sure how it will handle the rough stuff. I know that when I ride the quads on these long rides I am standing on the pegs more than half the time so I'm not sure how sitting ALL the time will feel.

Property in the Sierras would be awesome! I go to Bridgeport once a year and fish at Walker River and Twin Lakes. Man is bueatiful up there! And you're right about the Rhino...what more justification can you get?

Never been to that part of the forest before. Now, I have a reason to go backFound 2 places above 2500 feet that have wild turkeys on forest landMarked them on my GPSBR>
We used to hunt Bridgeport in the early 90'sLeft a lot of arrows on the hill sideou are right, that is beautiful countryFrom my house, it's about 3 hoursBR>
Ever been to the hot springs by the helipad near Twin Lakes? I can get there, just wouldn't be able to tell you how to get thereAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHH,,, Heavenlyhr>
Yep, I've been there if the place you are talking about. You take a dirt road up towards Buckeye campground, cross a narrow bridge, and turn right once you cross a little valley. Then you have to walk down the hill a good couple hundred yards. The springs are right at the banks of the stream. Is that the one you are talking about? I've always wished I were related to the "Honeywell" that owns "Honeywell Ranch".
