Ranger 4x4 or 6x6 sound perfect for your folks. If you get the 6x6 stuck, then you must be taking it through some NASTY stuff. They would be great for work too.

I used to own a Ranger 4x4 (2002). The only reason I sold it, was because at the time everyone was talking up the Sportsman 700, and it was a little big for the trails I was trying to ride it in. Other than that, I could hook it up to any thing and it would pull it. It was also a fast UV, and great in the mud. It's just a Sportsman 500 in a small trucks body. Your tranny, true 4x4, towing ablity, and great powerplant are all there. I really liked the ablity to carry more than one person (its rated for 3). Its a really awsome UV.

Here's a new amphib for you. coot2 The argo and maxx chain drives leave something to be desired and require maintanince. They also might be harder for them to climb into verse a Ranger/mule/gator. I say look more at the rhino and ranger, both have allot more power than the mule and gator, and have better suspensions. Just because it can be a sporty machine doesn't mean they have to drive it like you might.

Why no Yamaha Rhino?

Since you've given me the green light, I'll put my vote in for the Rhino. It's not "sporty". It's just more off-road oriented then say a Gator or Mule. The latter models of UVs are meant to be just that, Utility Vehicles. The Rhino is more for going mudding, climbing hills, trail riding and the things people usually do on regular ATVs. It's got fully-independent suspension, automatic tranny, 4x4 with locking and unlocking front differential and the same 660 engine in the Grizzly. Throw some ITP 589s on that thing and I think your folks would be set for muddy, marshy conditions. A winch would just guarantee they got where they wanted to go. And just in case you want to take a ride on it occasionally, and assuming you're a little more agressive than your parents, you can put a Grizzly 660 CDI in place of the stock Rhino CDI to bump the top speed up from 35mph to about 50mph

Argo makes amphibious 6x6 and 8x8 ATVs. I've seen one in action once and it looked pretty darned impressive.

If I had a lot of marshy areas to deal with I might think about one. Plus the things look like a heck of a lot of fun to play with.

I've seen pictures of them with a snow blade mounted. I can't seem to find on on their website though. I looked around on the 6x6 owners group website :
http://www.route6x6.com
and found some 2003 argo literature that has a plow blade as an option. With a set of the tracks or chains I'll bet those things could really push some snow. They even have an ice cleat for the tracks.

If your parents have a lot of wetlands I would bet one of the argo type vehicles would be much more practical than a ranger, gator, rhino or other utility atv. It floats and it can even be fittted with a set f tracks for even more traction. I would guess that an 8x8 with a set of tracks would go just about anywhere. That is a very light footprint (good for the enviroment) and a large amount of traction.

Argo and Maxx have NO suspension.

I am posting this for my parents who will purchase a UV in the next few months. From reading the other posts, I understand SOME of the advantages and disadvantages to all three and that it depends on what you would use the machine for.

My parents would use this primarily to traverse their Michigan property, 1/3 of it being wetlands and very marshy. An amphibious UV would be great, although, probably wishful thinking. They also would like to use it to plow their 3/4 mile driveway in the winter.

They have always owned John Deere lawn tractors and like them, but I figure since a UV is a different type of vehicle, I thought it would be good to get some opinions from folks that have used them.

Thanks in advance for your thoughts and opinions on a UV that might fit their needs.

Those argos look pretty sweet. I'm definitely going to look into those. However, from the pics I've seen, it doesn't look like a blade can be attached to the front.

Thanks for the info.

Thanks Cap'n

Those amphibs sound awesome. I guess my only concern would be the suspension of these compared to the others. I don't see my parents getting crazy in the water, just going through mud and some shallow water.

I have requested literature from Argo though, so we'll see.

Thanks for your help.

Just because I heard it was more sporty than utility. My parents are almost 60 BR>
Feel free to post your opinions on it though...it would be appreciated.
