if it's made of paper then no oil, but if it's made of wire mesh, foam or fabric, then it needs to be oiled, of couse to much oil will cause will also plug the filter, so the filter needs to be spayed lightly, i use pj1 spray filter oil on both the wire mesh, foam filers, and k&n filter oil on the fabic filters, the oil catches the very fine paricals and without the oil their's no way the filter will catch these and will enter the engine and cause faster ware on the piston and cylinder.

if you have a paper air filter then you need to junk it and install a form (uni filter) or a better fabric filter (K&N), the paper filters are not made to be cleaned they are deposible filters. after 45 years working on m/c and atv's have never seen a paper filter on a dirt bikes or quads, so i don't know whats jetmoto's thinking is

K&N airfilters also look like paper but are a fabric filter. if dirt is embedded in the paper how are you suppose to clean it without damaging the paper? are you just hosing off the dirt, or using a air filter cleaner?

I found on mine if water gets in the kill switch on the handlebars it will sputter, and die. It has only happened once or twice, and once was when I washed it with a power washer. I simply blew into the switch several times to blow the water out, and it ran fine afterwards. Also you might check the wiring harness connectors under the front panel. They aren't covered very well either.
My son and I have had the quad in several creeks, deep water holes and NEVER had any water get into the carb. Surprising since it has no airbox.

I agree. I oiled mine and it wouldn't run at all. I have made a foam filter cover that fits over the stock filter, and I do oil it slightly with no problems.

today i was riding my quad and there where 6 in puddles in the trails, and then my brother took it out for a spin and he came back and said it was acting weird and i road it and when u whent to give it more throttle it would start to choke and sputter. so i thought that i might have water in the engine so would i have to drain the carb, and what else could it be?

no i use cleaner its called jt1 or something like that but yes i cover the filter in it then i let it sit for 15 minets then wash it out therouly and let it dry but i do not put that sticky crap on it i have those cleaners mainly cuss i got them for my moms forman but i m suposed to use the cleaner any way
