How long have you had the 50? A few things that will make it hard to start is a dirty airfilter, valves need adjustment or carb needs to be cleaned. The most common problem with them is the valves needing adjustment.

I know with out meerkat I dont choke it all teh way and it starts fine. The idle did need to be turned up a little to keep it running. What I do is try to start it choked and slowly open it up till it starts. There is a sweet spot for the choke. Once running I turned up the idle till it just starts to creep then turn it back a little. It has started great every time.

It has been that way since we bought it. it has about 10 hours of run time. would it be the idle that needs to be adjusted?
