Mini ATV Raceway ATV

After a great deal of trouble with a "Meercat 50 SE" purchased from Wicked Rocket, I decided to buy a 50cc atv from Raceway. However, the 50 Kazuma was out of stock, which turned out to be a good thing. I called John, with whom I had sought advice about the problems with the Meercat earlier, and described what I needed in a small atv for my son. After discussing the performance criteria ( ease to operate, enough power for rouch terrain, larger frame than the Meerkat ), John suggested that I buy the Mini-95 instead of the Mini-90 that was the suggested replacement for the Kazuma 50. As John explained, on the Mini-95 the choke is mounted on the handlebar, the frame size is about 50% larger than the meercat, the transmission is full auto with enough engine power to overcome the high gearing.

The Mini-95 arrived exactly 7 days after order, as promised on the website. Assembly was easy, just mount the wheels and handlebar, attach the front brush guard and fuel line to the carburetor. It might be advisable to attach a notice on the fuel fill cap that the fuel line is not attached, since an unattentive owner might fill the tank resulting in a fuel spill. As advised in several posts to the forums, I checked all fasteners for tightness. All nuts were nylon locknuts, and the sprocket bolts were both threaded into the axle adapter and secured with nylon locknuts. The only fasteners I found loose were on the balljoints on the right front steering spindle, which was an easy fix. I drained the shipping oil, replaced with new motocycle (non-detergent) oil, added gas, and it started immediately. Well, almost immediately. First, I had to figure out that the hand brake had to be depressed for the starter to work! After the, it ran great from the first crank. No idle problems, great acceleration right out of the box. It has more than enough power to pull me (180 lbs) through the woods and trails at a modest speed. With my son, the speed was a bit scary. First thing was to take it down to about 1/4 throttle, and it will still carry me with no trouble.

Now to list the few problems. The overflow line on the fuel cap won't stay attached, and the nipple is recessed too deeply in the fuel cap to attach a clamp. The battery died after sitting for a week, I suspect due to the remote / alarm. At first the atv would crank after turning the ignition on, however lately it will only start after turning the key on and depressing the "start" button on the remote. After that, it will only turn off with either the remote or the rear safety tether. I assume that is caused by the remote, and will try to bypass that when I get time. The only major problem, which I will call John about tomorrow, is the fuel float keeps sticking, causing gas to drain throug the carb. overflow tube. I have removed the carb., checked for dirt, and reassembled. I also installed a fuel shutoff valve and replaced the stock fuel line and filter with automotive line filter. The float worked last weekend, however after sitting all week, the float again stuck open. I tried bouncing the atv and tapping the float bowl with a screwdriver, however it still sticks open intermittently. I'm sure John will be able to help, however if anyone else has experienced this, please let me know how you fixed the problem.

In summary, the Mini-95 is solidly built with more than enough power for a beginning or young rider. The full suspension helps maintain ground contact, and the engine is strong enough to cover semi-rough terrain at safe speeds, not relying on speed and inertia to clear obstacles.

Unfortunately weather and time haven't permitted me to try the suggestions you gave me on the phone last week. For the benefit of the readers, John suggested that I support the rear wheels off the ground, rev the engine and open the carburetor drain to correct the problem with the float sticking. Also, he said to hold the remote unlock button for about 30 seconds to reset the alarm, allowing the engine to start / stop using the handlebar switches. As reported by others, you won't find more friendly and prompt service than John and the folks at Raceway!
