hey does anyone one know any tricks for the ford 6.0 power steering we put bigger tires on ours and it was a pain in the -well you get the point we have a set of35- 20"s in the garage because it was such as pain to steer.

Congrats on the new truck!

I'd check HERE for suspension stuff. It's best to call him and ask him questions and he'll tell you the best route to take.

If you tow a lot a set of airbags in the rear will solve all your sagging problems.

Posted by: LTZ

Check the ProComp Xtreme A/T also. 3 for 1 sale starts Oct. 1st. Great tire and 40k mile warranty. I love mine!

As for the temps mine is an 04.5 and it runs at 195* so yours sounds right but I'm not positive on the 6.7 and the smell is normal stuff burning off.

Posted by: Doctorturbo

The 6.7 is a nice truck; my father in law has one.
One thing they are having problems with is the DPF. Dodge can't seem to get the programing right and they are plugging up right and left. I heard once they clog they will strand you.
Have fun with your new truck. 35K is a steal. Must have beat the salesman up pretty bad to get that price!!!

Posted by: 650VIPER

I think Edge has a box out for the 6.7 now. If your looking for a chip.
I level all our Dodges. I look for the cheapest puck I can find. Just make sure if you want to fully level it, you get the 3" puck, and not the 2". Rons truck look good with his tires.......

What tranny did you get?

Posted by: 650VIPER

No, I had three done by the dealer, and the other one at a local auto shop. The cheapest one that I have had done was 300 bones. Everyone I have had done needed a alignment.

That new tranny sounds kick butt. I have the six speed manual in my personal truck, and while I like it for towing, it gets old rowing the boat everywhere else. I have the 4 speed auto in Jeremey's truck, and once I put in a good torque converter, valve body and deep pan, its been good. The problem I had with it, was the gap between 3 and 4th. You wont have that issue!
I have read the same as Doctorturbo, as they have had some serious issues with the particulate filters. Hopefully they solve that issue soon.

Post a pic once you get it done. Over in the Bomb section of course........lol

Keith, I dont think I have ever plugged in our Cummins trucks. I had to on all the ford Diesels I owned, but not these or the Duramax. They like to rattle when its below 0, but usually start right up. I might try it for the faster warmups, as these things take FOREVER to heat up on a cold morning. Gotta love the seat heaters for that!
I like the idea of the cord over the mirror. I would be the guy that ran off and forgot about it............some guy walks up behind me at the convenience store...."Sir, did you know you are dragging a 100' extension cord behind you?" uuuuuhuh!! lmao!!

Posted by: 650VIPER

Nice looking truck Keith!!

After two alignments, my truck still pulls to the right!! ugh!

Posted by: 650VIPER

No I have done that. I will check into it, thanks.

Its funny on the mileage. My 5.9 07' get terrible mileage. 13-14 dry!! But my 05' gets 16 pulling a 5000lb work trailer around, and our 93 get 19!
Who would have thought, you buy newer trucks the mileage gets worse!

Congrats and welcome! Be sure to visit www.turbodieselregister.com for tons of good information and good people to answer questions.

Personally, I wouldn't do a leveling kit. Look at my pic below and if you haul much, you're nose is going to be high. If I do anything, it will be a full lift.

I can tell you that 305/65/17's look like this:

Sorry I couldnt find the old diesel thread.

I just pulled the trigger on a new 07 dodge 6.7 quad cab. I spent considerable time in all the big three trucks and the dodge came out on top. I think I got a good deal (35k). I forgot what a pain in the a$$ buyin a new rig is. Anything I need to look out for in terms of wear or service. I got them to throw in lifetime oil and filter changes. Also want to level the front and get rid of the stock tires and go bigger and better tires. Any suggestion on tire size vs fuel economy? Not planning any engine mods as of yet. Doesnt look like theres much out there anyway for the 6.7 quite yet any way. Any advice?

I did eventually have the computer recalibrated by the Dodge dealer to account for the larger tires. That actually improved my shift points and my mileage.

That 6.7 has so much power, I couldn't imagine the need to chip that thing, lol.

Im not really the type to modify anything. I just like it to look prettyLOL!

I figured I would have to have the speedo recalibrated. Didnt think that it would changed the shift points but that does make sense. Your not kidding about the power, I think this truck would pull the bottom out of a ditch. This is my first diesel and my first Dodge so Ive got some learnin to do. They made a dealer trade out of portland and Ive been waiting for a couple of days now to pick it up, Hopefully tomorrow.

My 01 chevy has just about had it (160k) Springing leaks, squeaks, thunks, thuds ect ect. Im envisioning as I pull away from the dealership in my new ride the scene from Blues Brothers when the car falls to pieces. About time I didnt get screwed on a trade LOL!

Posted by: Scatterbrain

no lifetime warranty on the diesel trucks. Standard 36mo bumper to bumper and 100k on the engine. Would have benn cool though for sure!

Posted by: Scatterbrain

Viper, Its got the aisin (sp) tranny and exhaust brake. I picked it up yesterday and its awsome!

Doctor, I talked to the service manager (buddy of mine) and they think they have the programming correct now and shouldnt be a problem. So I'll just see what happens. It took two days of battle to get the deal done, the salesmen still has two black eyes LOL! They have a lot full of 08's now and I think their motivated to get rid of the 07's I got lucky I guess.

Posted by: Scatterbrain

hey viper did you level it yourself and if you did do you have to have to realign it? Im looking at 33.5 on 17'' black and polished alum wheels. Tires are toyo

Nice trucks guys!

I got a chance to pull my trailer over the weekend (took all my boys ridin) Had 5 quads including my 400 2up. 4 on the trailer and one in the bed. Six of us in the cab and all I can say is "what trailer?" Theres a 6% grade about 2miles long over lake of the woods cruise on 70 I think it only shifted once never even dipped the speedometer. On the way back down the exhaust brake worked awsome and it sounds really cool. I am pleased. As far as mods right now im looking for some bling and tires. Its my daily work truck so a big lift isnt very practicle for me. Im really lookin forward to this coming weekends trip to Florence. Theres quite a few big grades between here and there. Funny I used to dread them now Im like bring it on!

Whats the trick to getting the truck defrosted in the morning and how cold does it need to be before I start plugging it in at night. Kinda stupid questions but this is my first diesel.

Posted by: Scatterbrain

LMAO! That would be me! Except in my case the cord would have been wrapped around the wheel barrow and lawn mower in the garage. They of course would go through the garage door. Imagine the guys face at the quicky mart!

I decided today to go with 35'' Toyo M/T's on the stock wheels (kinda like em) I looked at a alot of cool wheels but I got to thinkin about with a wider offset and the way they sand the roads in the winter around here, there probably wouldnt be much paint left behind the wheels after one winter. I talked to a couple of guys about the tire height and most of them agreed that mileage would improve with the 35's vs the 33's and they will last longer. Also they told me not to sipe the tires like I have always done because the diesels make so much torqe that it will rip them apart. Made sense to me. Im gonna drop it off tomorrow for the lift and tires.

Also is it normal for this truck to smell hot, sorta like oil burning off. Ive got about 550 miles on it now, seems like most of that stuff would be gone by now. Temp is running just below 200. Normal?

Posted by: Scatterbrain

I figure that was what the smell was. I was looking at the engine and I think it has more clear coat than the exterior. Just dropped it off at Les Schwabs for the lift and tires. The tech told me we might need to install an offset ball joint to correct the alignment with the bigger tires. He said its a case by case deal so I guess we will see after their done. I'll try to post some pics later today.

Posted by: Scatterbrain

Cant figure out how to post a pic in the thread. Check my pic page.

Posted by: Scatterbrain

Thanks, Actually the color didnt really come out right. Its electric blue but it was in the shade early this morning. I saw those inner tubs, just one more thing to add to the list. LOL! We ended up having to install the off set ball joint afterall. She pulls to the right so its back down there today. Cant wait to get it out on the road tomorrow night for our trip to florence.

Posted by: Scatterbrain

Almost all of our ridin is on the sand. Wichester bay, Florence, Horsefall, Christmas Valley ect. Nothin like big dunes!

Posted by: Scatterbrain

Jed, Did you have them do the offset balljoint? There a bunch of different sizes I think mines a 1.5. Mines straight as an arrow now. Cost around 150.00 installed at Les Schwab.

Mileage is sucking a bit, I got 11.7 on the way home from the sand over the weekend. I was towing just my flat bed trailer and two bikes. I know it will get alot better when broke in. Cool thing was being able to stay @ 65mph all the way over highway 58 ( about a 25 mile hill) The exhaust brake works awsome, I dont think I touched the brakes at all going down that hill.

As far as the cab, It has slightly more room than my old chevy. The kids have enough room for now. I really liked the mega cab but I needed the long bed also for work.

Nice truck. Enjoy it. The Aisin is the auto that comes with the cab and chassis (PTO Provision). Pickups have the 68RFE...

There have been threads about the particulate filter, but strangely the problem seems to crop up in some regions, so I wonder if they are fuel sensitive...

Personally, I wouldn't chip the motor, since they have plenty of power, and if you had a failure with evidence of warranty voiding performance stuff, it could get really expensive...

Posted by: JeffinTD

Personally I plug my truck in when it gets into the 30's. They will start fine down below zero without being plugged in, but I think it's easier on the motor, you get less smoke, and faster cab heat.

At my power rate, I think I figured it would add around $15 to my power bill to run the heater 8 hours a day, though I use a timer and generally only run it 3 hours or so before I leave (more if it gets colder).

It used to be (with the 5.9) that engaging the exhaust brake at idle after the oil pressure has stabalized would warm up the truck much more quickly. I don't know if the new ones with the variable turbo will do that...

Anyway, when you first start plugging in your truck in the winter, loop the extension cord over the driver's side mirror. That way you won't take off without unplugging it.

Posted by: JeffinTD

As far as smell goes, the paint/cosmoline type stuff takes a while to burn off...

Posted by: JeffinTD

With 35's I'll bet you eventually decide to get some wider wheels with some off-set... Since I tow a 5th wheel I've kept mine stock height.

I see you are in Klamath Falls. I went to OIT there for a couple years before transferring to Western...

Posted by: JeffinTD

Sweet truck. I like the color.

If you wanted to, the Dodge parts department can get you plastic full inner fender tubs for the back. They do a lot better job of keeping rocks, muck, and snow out from the underside of the bed than the little deflector things that are only on the backside of the wheel wells...

Posted by: JeffinTD

Well, have fun. Do you ever get up to the Tillamook riding area, or East Fort Rock/Millican or Moro County ATV park?

Posted by: JeffinTD

Scatterbrain, yeah from your machines I figured you spent at least some of your time in the sand... I'm mostly a mountain trail kind of guy.

Pipelayer, I'm over 6' and I've had people my size ride behind me. Kids would be OK for longer trips, but adults back there would be a short trip only kind of deal. Personally I think not offering the Mega in a long box, or not offering a plain old crew cab/long box is the most bone-headed thing Dodge has ever done.

I was hoping they would offer the mega on the cab and chassis, maybe in the 4500/5500 series, but it doesn't look like that's going to happen either.

Welcome to the wonderful world of emission regulations...

Give Crash a call later on. The front leveling kit and the whole larger tires thing are right up his alley. He has used a few different ones, and has some good road advise that comes with..... And congrats aswell.....

Posted by: DSNUT

I am running a leveling kit and 315/70 on stock 17" rims on my '04. That setup didn't hurt my fuel economy or my power noticably.

I did eventually have the computer recalibrated by the Dodge dealer to account for the larger tires. That actually improved my shift points and my mileage.

That 6.7 has so much power, I couldn't imagine the need to chip that thing, lol.

Posted by: DSNUT

Strike that! I didn't mean to say stock 17" rims. I have wider aftermarket rims but they are stock 17" diameter.

Ok, Carry on! lol

Posted by: cynick

I don't have any advice but congrats.

It's in the truck and toy hauler section.

Posted by: pipelayer

looks great Scatterbrain! how did you come to choosing the dodge? I will be looking for a new Diesel around the first of the year I have a 2000 f350 that I love but it is a standerd cab and the fam is getting bigger so I need a 4 door. It looks like the extra cab on the dodge is alot smaller than the Ford,Chevy and I dont like the magacab because I need a long bed for work It would be way long. I do love the dodge and the price looks a little better.

Hay what am I thinking I wont be in the back.

Posted by: pipelayer

Yea I just looked at ford next to a Dodge today at the job and it is a big mistake by Dodge. But the price of the dodge reflects that.

Posted by: ctateusa1

On the dodge I had the old 01 with an offroad package and you could put the 315/70/17 on it stock(stock wheels even) at the time it was the only truck that you could do it with from the factory.
I didnt notice a problem with the steering after that so you shouldnt have a problem with doing it on your diesel

Posted by: MIwolvy

Watch out with the modifying, its addicting as hell. The Cummins ram is a beast, I love the I6. When my 6.0 lets loose, I will be doing the cummins swap. I was looking at the rams when I bought my truck, I liked how they look and I loved the motor, but the fords just caught my eye a little more. The aftermarket for both is huge, so look around...there are tons of toys available for them.

Here is my baby:

04 F-250 6.0 diesel, 8" superlift with 38x14.50 nitto mud grapplers. The motor is stock for now, but I will be doing a SCT tuner, exhaust and intake as soon as I get my traction bars. That combo should be good for 450ish rwhp and about 900lbs of torque.

Congrats! Just wondering, are you covered under the new "lifetime warranty" ? I know it doesn't apply to the SRT models, but what about diesels?
