I have an even odder potential project. I just purchased an old Cardinal 7x14 travel trailer, actually in pretty good shape after a few cosmetic repairs and tires. Here is what I am attempting to do. I want to extend the tounge by 5 feet and weld a 5ft platform to the front of the trailer to load a quad on, similar to those new Baja pop up camper trailers with a similar set up. This will be my "poor mans" toy hauler.

wow!, great deal to get a 22'r for free. I'll be looking around for something like that now. I was looking in to building my own trailer(just a 2place) as I've got access to a few axles. I just need to get the steel for the platform. oh, i can weld to. I like the idea of having a travel trailer too. Offers a place to work on bikes if needed and much more comfortable than a tent for trips. Now that I've got a young one, the tent thing is getting cramped and inconvenient. Never thought i'd say that. couple of years ago i said i'd never buy a camper.lol.
I went to your pics, but just got the sign in homepage. can anyone help with hitmans pics?

I almost did that same thing. My friend had a trailer like 22 ft and it was OLD.
And heavy as sh*t because it had REAL WOOD throughout for the cabinets and fixtures.
plastic sure is nice when it comes to lessweight.
It was so old that it had them CRANK windows with the several slats that opened as you cranked them.
After towing it once for him I changed my mind as it was too heavy and too much work. I don't have a 1 ton truck, just a Dakota 4X4.
I bought a 2 yr old USED 19~20 ft Toy Hauler last year for $14k which was about $10k less than the first owner paid for new.
We refinanced out house to buy it that way but still think we saved vs. financing a NEW one for lits more.
The Dakota pulls it pretty good. It's 7,700 GWVR so it puts the Dak to the test but it pulls pretty good.
You should post some pics of your trailer and progress. That will be some project. I want to see what I would have been in for

So here's the deal. i am new to thsi forum, and am building a trailer. Ok not the whole thing, but making a conversion. I am sure others have done this or thought of it. I got a free 22ft Terry travel trailer *mid to late 70's, and it was already gutted mostly. finished gutting it and tore out the panelling and replaced wood support that are bad. I am know building my own design toy hauler cheaply. got real wood floor for the front, bamboo, will build a dividing wall 12 ft in from rear, converted the rear to a two piece fold down, and up opening. And will be putting in a sleeper sofa, sink, pump and tank from my old pop up, heater from pop up. Will build cabinets throughout and will be replacing certain windows and adding. I am looking for a water heater Propane one and a fridge, 12v or propane. i am installing my 3 burner stove from pop up and am going to go with a porta potti with curtain in the back, and an outdoor shower of some kind. Rear area will have either a fold up to the sides beds, or will have a queen style drop down using pullies or some kind of mechanism. Any thoughts suggestions, ideas, concerns opinions are welcome. I have reinforced the rear area with additional plywood, and will be hauling two to three quads max. I have a small quad trailer i made out of my pop up but i don't like that caravan thing i see others do with two trailers behind a truck.
