I did the same as tencubed and made a ramp out of treated lumber. Another advantage this has, is it raises the front bumper at an angle. My tires hit the back of the bed, without the bumper resting on, or going through the back window. Originally, I had made one out of 2x6, but after about 4 years of sitting in the back of the truck, I finally needed to make another. This time I used 2x8. Cost was under 20 bucks, which is a lot less than a new rear window.
Been hauling mine in a 95 Ranger with a 2.3, so the Frontier shouldn't have any problems at all.
And I may be considered of overkill, but I used 4 straps to hold mine down.

Like the others I believe you will have no problem hauling the quad in that pickup. I haul my P360 in my S-10 with no problem. I did build a wood ramp system that fits between the fender wells and forward of them to support the front of the quad. The width between the fender wells was too narrow to allow the quad between them and only about half of each tire would ride up on them hence the ramp. From what you are describing it may be advantageous to put a piece of plywood across the fender wells for the front of the quad to ride on. You could also put a wheel stop on the plywood to prevent hitting the cab.
Ride safe and good luck with your project.

LaPurr makes some good points. I have seen quads in the beds of pickups that did not appear to be tied down. I have a couple of good straps with ratchet tighteners on them for the front and rear of the quad. By good straps I mean 2" wide heavy duty straps. Not those little red cheapo jobs. Tried them and they just didn't seem to be secure.

I attach the ramps to the tailgate by dropping a couple of pins in place on each ramp. I just drilled some holes thru the ramps and inner wall of the tailgate. Works fine.
About the hold down straps. I mentioned I used two. These are hooked to one side of the beds built in tie downs, lace thru the racks and then hook to the other side. Essentially a tie down at each corner.

Well i bought a 2006 Arctic Cat 400 Auto FIS 4x4 it's suppose to the same size as the 500,650H1 and the 650vtwin only difference is the engine size. I've hauled it in the bed of my 1987 Chevy S-10 pickup, but it's got the long bed. I put a couple concrete blocks at the front of bed to keep the front end of the quad from going through the rear window. The way the front and rear wheels of the quad are wedged between the wheel wells in the bed is a perfit fit, and the S-10 has tie down eye bolts in the four corners of the bed. But it's a tight squeaze between the bed rails. The bed lenth is the same as a full size short bed pickup, but the width is not as wide. I didn't get the brush guard for my 400 so i don't know if it would fit with the gate closed the way it does even in the long bed ! I've only hauled my quad 4 or 5 times in the bed of the S-10 ! I don't know anything about the Nisson , but if it's as big as my S-10 it should fit !!!

Yes, I hauled my Outlander in the back of my Frontier and it only had the 2.4 litre engine, in fact I hauled one in the back and one on a trailer with no problems. Getting over the wheel wells is a bit of a hassle but it fits.

I could ride the outlander in 4wd over the wheel wells but the front bumper sat RIGHT up against the rear window so had to be careful, bent the front of the bed once. I had to lift my DS up over the wells. Not sure if the 07's are any different, I had an 02 XE with the generic king cab(basically xtra storage). The quad sat on the tailgate, if my front tires had sat on the wheel wells the quad would have hung off the tailgate so you must have a larger cab.
IMO take a look at the Dodge Dakota or even a base model Ram, speaking from experience, it's always better to have a bit more then you need then barely enough. GM, Ford and Dodge are BLOWING out their pickups CHEAP. Nothing wrong with Nissan, I've owned two of them with zero problems but for this "sport" I'd strongly suggest looking a bit bigger.

I had a 06 frontier...same truck. I used to haul 2 raptors stood up all the time. The wheel wells are a B**** sometimes but not too big a concern. The truck Had TONS of power. I had the stick. I hauled a car hauler with 2 quads and 3 bikes to the dunes and had no problems up hills. Only thing i did not like was braking. the truck just was not big enough for a large trailer. It got good milage at 17/22. I would deffinentally recomend the truck if you want a mid sized. I loved the truck just needed something bigger. 4x4 is a definent plus as the low range 4x4 has gotten me outta sticky situations backing up hills and such. Plus dont know where you ride but the truck is REALLY low to the ground for the 4x4. oh yea and the way the bed is set up...when hauling one...my bumper always hit the front of the bed before the quad hit the window. not sure with a utility quad but i am sure it would be the same...wish it was the same with my dodge ram. I can see me bumping the window on my new truck.

Anyone out there hauling ATVs in mid-sized pick-up beds? My brother is thinking about hauling a 06 Vinson (a full sized bike) in a 07 Nissan Frontier. He doesn't have either the quad or truck yet so all we can go on is Nissan specs and some math. It looks like the quad will fit in the bed though. Basically, the front will rest higher than the back since the tires will be on the truck's wheel wells. The rear tires should rest just inside the bed.
Max. payload is 1345lbs. so that's not an issue and the 265hp V6 should have enough power to haul it and tow. It also has a excellent adjustable tie down system so the quad should be well anchored.
Just curious if anyone else out there is doing similar hauling. I'd appreciate any comments.

Hey RaiderMike,
Man, your comments were exactly what I was looking for.
Yea, the wheel wells on the 07 Frontier ,although low, start mid way in the bed then run all the way to the cab. So, as I said the quad would sit on those for transport. We looked at them from underneath and they appear to look strong but this is new stuff to us. What's your take on that? How heavy is the Outlander? We figure the quad will ride kind of hight in the front. How about yours?
Coincidentally, we'd be pulling a small trailer with my eiger but the V6 should handel that OK. Really appreciate your feedback.

Howdy Williebee,
I guess between your comments and RaiderMikes, thats about as good as it gets. What do you think about the issue of the quads front end riding on the truck's wheel wells? They looked pretty sturdy to us but this is all new stuff.
What's your take? Much appreciated.

Zeppel,
When you load your quads onto your Frontier's bed, do you attach your ramps to the tail gate? Just wondering how much weight the tail gate would take. Got any idea?

My thanks to everyone on this link, y'all are fantastic & your suggestions were greatly appreciated! Ride safely!

As long as you arent talking about the 4 full size door frontier, I dont really see a problem with it. If you are talking the 4 door pickup, I see a couple problems.
4 door: First the wheels would be sitting on top of the wheel wells. Which if you have to hard brake, is going to put the front bumper thru the back window cause the plate is below the bikes bumper. Secondly, in a accident, the bike will rip right thru the cab launching itself out into traffic or whatever. Unless you are talking about getting some major hold down straps (I use straps that truck drivers use to hold down 46000lbs rolls of steel), and even then, the quad could rip out the holding brackets that are mounted to the truck, slowing it down, but still posible to cause some serious hurt.
2 door: Probly the only 2 things to mention here is to have a shop weld a square tubing support bracket for the front of the bed. Made into a X shape, with the tubing going around it. The other thing to mention is a larger support cable/rod system that holds the beds liftgate. Those can be pretty expensive to replace, and if you hit a bump just right, the quad might rip the cable/rod system right out.
All the scenarios I mention above I have seen in my experience working for DOT. Quads sitting on top of the fender wells ripping right thru the cab and people. Quads going thru the front of the bed, the rear of the cab, to be found in the dashboard. All pretty gruesome sights. When Use to borrow my freinds pickup to haul my toy around, I strapped it down, and went straight to the frame. Better be safe than sorry.
