Trailer is the only way to go with that tow vehicle. You would be killing it.. not to mention the first time you had to change lanes with that weight up high and that far out back, and you would be on your head pronto...Expect your milage to be cut in half.

Man, I don't know how comfortable I'd feel having that much weight hanging off the end of the hitch of the Blazer... I'd do the trailer.
I'd also spend the money to put suspension under it. Even though the ATV has suspension, it'll be compressed somewhat by tie downs, and I think the thing would tend to bounce badly if the trailer doesn't have springs.
Trailer registration requirements varies by state. Here trailers under a certain weight don't have to be registered, but all have to have tail lights/brake lights regardless of whether or not you can see the tow vehicle's lights.
Look around the classifieds in your area. There may be a suitable used trailer out there for less than the axle and steel would cost you.

I used a motorcycle carrier, tilt a rack, for my boys bike for quite a while.... While it was relatively convienient at the time I would definitely go with the trailer. I have a trailer now and wouldn't go back. And jeffin is right check your state laws regarding the trailer registration and lights, for example in Utah you don't need lights if you are under 8ft..... I'd still put lights on it though, it's for your safety as well as others.

I just purchased my 4 wheeler about 2 months ago. Just bought a winch today for it that was pretty cheap. I have been using my truck to haul my 4 wheeler around, but its an old Ford v8 which is a horrible gas guzzler I get 11mpg if I am lucky with nothing in the bed. Then to top it off the gas tank has a small leak so it probably gets worse now. Anyway I have a 94 Blazer and it gets about 20mpg which isn't to bad. I was thinking about building a hitch style carrier. You see them for luggage that cost like $150 or so then ATV ones for $600+. I was thinking about building one that looks like this http://www.discountramps.com/atv-carrier.jpg. I was waundering if anyone has made one of these before. I was also thinking about just building a small trailer something basic and just tow it rather than carry it. I just waunder if anyone has built one of these carriers or just built a small trailer. What I was waundering is if the trailer is small enough do you hafta have it plated and if so is it hard to get one registered so you can get it plated. I know you hafta have a sherriff come out and inspect it if you make a full size, but don't know about something small enough that a person behind you will still be able to see ur brake lights easily.
The trailer I am thinking about probably won't be more than 4 feet wide and 6 foot long just big enough to throw a ATV on it. Pretty light weight. Don't start assumming its not worth the time don't do it its to much work. I have full access to everything I will need from a couple different welders and metal. Only thing I am concerned about is were to get my axle+wheels. I am thinking just making it a solid axle, but if I can get an axle with leaf springs for not much more I will do that. Solid trailer just because the ATV has shocks so it isn't going to take a massive beating even with it tied down.

I was thinking about the carrier thing. I think that it might be to much weight in the rear and would compress the springs quiet a bit. I thinking about just doing the basic of basic trailers just to get it back and forth. Its going to cost me only about $40-50 for my steal and about $15 for my wood then how ever much a tonge costs and axle + wheels.
