Whats the best place to buy an enclosed trailer in Oregon???
I don't necessarily want bottom of the line, but also do not want to pay top price either.

Where's a good place to purchase a new enclosed trailer 8' X 20' for around 5-6 grand?? (is this even possible)??? I see enclosed trailers at the coast and the owners have said that they paid under 6 grand for them, but I cannot seem to find them for that price anywhere?? HELP!! BR>
Any help greatly appreciated.

There are some huge manufacturing facilities scattered across the country that make these things (in the heartland where labor and overhead are cheap). I dont think you will be so price lucky around here,,,,where it is primarily distribution yards which have already factored destination cost. You can save a lot of money if you pick it up (which would cost another $1000 in gas or more).

Ebay is a good barometer for market price. Do some searching,,,,maybe even call one of these places and see if they have one sitting somewhere that suits your needs. I have seen parking lots off hwy 80 and 70 with literally thousands of trailers on them.

I'm looking for a car hauler, or utility trailer, either one. Preferrably V-nosed, but it does not have to be. 8 ft wide by 20 ft long (at least).

You should find several manufacturers out there that are comparably priced. PACE, Haulmark, Utility etc. ALL make the same basic trailer for the same price point. It is too bad you are not near Indiana... you could find hundreds of these at dealer cost. that is where a lot of them are made. Mine came from Georgia.. and I'd stay as far away from those good ol boys in Fitzgerald as I could. Lets just say I had "Issues" with the factory guys there. Haulmark was right next door.

I would prefer the 8' wide version simply because I would like to be able to put two quads side by side, and not have to turn them sideways in order to make them fit!
Ideally, I'd like to have room to fit 4 ATVs, and still have enough room for cabinets, gear, and a small sleeping area. So I figure 20' would be about as short as I'd want to go.

A V-nosed snow-mobile trailer is one of the options I have been considering.
I am aware of the wheel-well issue as I have gone to a couple of differen't trailer outfits and looked around. I was not however, aware of the lack of space BEHIND the wheel well. The ATVs are only ~ 6' long, so I thought that there was at least 6' behind the wheel wells of a 20' trailer. Perhaps there isn't. I have never measured the trailers, so I am not sure of the measurements. That is good advice though. I will have to make sure I bring a tape measure along the next time I go look at some!

As far as the towing vehicle is concerned, thanks for the advice on that too. I have been researching tow vehicles here in the forums too. Lots of good info and thoughts were given to me about those too! Seems like when I DO get a tow vehicle, it will probably be at least a 3/4 ton diesel.

Pat #2, I appreciate your input. Problem is, I don't know that I would get my money's worth out of a 25-35,000 dollar toy hauler. Thats a HUGE amount of dough to me right now (especially since I'm basically broke!! LOL).

Out of curiosity, why did you sell the Dodge 2500?? It would seem to me that it would have plenty of power for towing??

Well then, check out my personal page. What you will find is a Pace American 22 ft v-nose. The basic box is 16 ft, and the V is 3 ft. Mine has extra height and a lot of costly extras that you don't need generally. I have them for a business I run out of the trailer... but you could get by a lot cheaper. For all you guys out there thinking a v-nose will magically increase your gas milage etc, you are fooling yourself. I have found that in theory it is a good idea, but in practice, it isn't the answer. ALthough my trailer is much taller than the average one out there, the v-nose is actually causing issues with wind wiggle... especially when passing trucks etc. Also, the v-nose is really dead space if you want to add cabinets etc. It is just an odd shape. You are better served with a flat nose, and use a bubble to drive wind around to the side. Much more usable space inside as well. The ONLY advantage to a v-nose is when you have a drive through front door on it. Otherwise, stick with the square box.

Another thing is the width issue. I have towed 8 ft's 6 fts and 7 ft wides.. and find the 7 ft wide the best compromise. The deal is I can't see around an 8 ft trailer when backing it into a tight area. Plus you have to be really on your game to keep the trailer in the middle of the lane. I can use stock mirrors and see around the 7 ft. The 6 ft is too narrow to haul many of the items I tow..

Yeah, and once you pull that moose around a few times, you find yourself wishing you could just load up and ride, and not worry about all the stuff you have to do to get the big rig ready to rumble. That is why I have two trailers. It just is too much trouble if all I am doing is going across town. If I inted to stay overnight, the big boy comes out... if it is within an hour or two, I take the open flatbed.

I can't speak for others, but I have to tell you, buying a new 2500 Dodge quad cab with the Cummins diesel was the best thing I ever did. It is a brute. I had an 03 Dodge 1500 quad cab with the hemi that I dearly loved, but it could not handle the heavy hauling I am now doing. (Not geared correctly) When pulling my trailer, I was getting 7 MPG tops. Most of the time, it was around 6. My new Cummins got an honest 20 this morning.. Actually read 21.9 on the computer, but hand calculating I trust more. Any way, when pulling, I can still get 17 to 18 MPG. In fuel cost savings alone, it pays my rather hefty payments...so Mrs DB is sort of happy. Not pleased that I traded one truck for essentially the same thing visually, but with the diesel, and the new one is a 4x4 to boot, I am liking it more each day. It is not the brute horse power deal the Hemi was.. that thing was a hot rod for sure, but it has the beans when I need to pull the load.. and that turbo sound is super... Besides the new truck is black, and matches my trailer...

Cummins owners have a saying... there are two kinds of truck drivers.. Those that have a Cummins, and those that wish they did. I use to laugh at that... but now that I own one, I understand.....

I agree with you there, the Fords are really nice inside, while th eDodges are more like a work truck. They can put all sorts of fru fru stuff in them, and they still come out a work truck. They have never been known for bling and style... Oh well, it gives us something to shoot for.

Sorry man, no disrespect, but I have to disagree with you. I have a 28 foot US Cargo and it pulls great. Short Vnose trailers do tend to wiggle more than a longer one like mine. The wiggle is most likely from loading it wrong, too much weight on the back end or not enough stabilizer applied to the problem. I have cabinets in the front of my trailer, base and upper, and they work great. Helmet locker on top and parts, chairs, supplies, etc. in the base. The problem with your trailer might be that it is only a 3 foot v on it. A 4 foot v works pretty well.

Before I picked a Vnose I talked to the guy locally here that has gone to Indianna to pickup literally hundreds of trailers. He convinced me that the Vnose was better hands down. I would have to agree though that the bubble would definitely help with air flow.

I guess the width is personal preference. The 6 foot wide trailers are roughly the same width as the truck at the wheels. The 7 wide on up is typically the same width at the wheels. 8 1/2 feet. I figure...if the mirrors fit...the trailer fits! And I like the extra room. And don't forget...the longer the trailer...the easier it is to back up.

2fun I wish you luck in your quest for a trailer and a tow vehicle. I've gone through a 13 foot open bed, a 13 foot enclosed vnose, a 18 foot flatbed, a 24 foot vnose and now 28 foot vnose loaded with tire rack cabinets, etc. Not to mention an 03 Silverado 1/2 ton, 04 Dodge 2500 Cummins and now an 06 Ford Powerstroke Lariat. I thought I finally had it right and today I decided to sell the big trailer and get a toy hauler with a generator. Some people get it right the first time and some of us never get there!!

LOL...that's exactly what we're looking to do. I still have the 18 foot flatbed. We're considering going with a Cyclone or a Raptor.

Hey, 35K aint chump change to me either! I traded the Dodge off because my stepson sells Fords and the wife liked the Lariat interior much better than the Dodges. Great reason to buy a 48K truck isn't it? As a matter of fact...I agree with DB that the Dodge is the preferred truck. I like the way it drives and definitely like how it pulls ... as in Cummins power! ... but that Ford is definitely a classier ride. With fuel prices the way they are I've been considering getting out of the new truck business altogether and switching to a new Monte for a daily driver. Bought a used one...2005...last week and my youngest son drove off into the sunset with it tonight. I'm thinking he'll claim that one so I'll have to go shopping again. If I sell the Ford I would probably go back to a Dodge, used this time, for towing. I really miss that Cummins.

It's amazing how the simple things make a huge difference. The arm rest on the Ford is narrow and you only get your elbow on it. The Dodge has that big wide padded arm rest that you could rest your entire arm on. That's not a big deal if you're driving across town....but...12 hour road trips are a different matter...
