I test drove the new Nissan Titan and both my wife and I loved the ergonomics. Wasn't crazy about the styling, but that's subjective. However, we both agreed that the engine noise ("Throaty growl as one publication stated) was just too much for our ears. We'd sold our Ford F250 Powerstroke diesel to get something quieter, but the Nissan just wasn't a whole lot better. Bought a Ford F150 but wish it had less wind noise at speed. But, it's just a truck, right?

Nissan wouldn't deal with me either. Best they would do is drop the 2000 factory rebate offer they had. Went to a Chevy dealer. Dropped from 31,792.00 to 22, 142.00, and then gave me two 500.00 gift cards.
Also got the 3.73 rear end, along with the tow package. Rated 10,500. Not that I'll tow that much, but don't like being close to the tow rating on anything.

Take a look at the Nissan Titan. It beats the competition hands down in all specs and has some semblance of styling. After driving one, I'm seriously thinking about selling my 2005 F350 and getting a Titan.

thanks for the link...but not a huge surprise; knew it would be similar in design to the tahoe & avalanche.
i like the new avalanche, but i may never buy another chevy again unless it has "corvette" or "duramax" (for the duramax GM doesnt make the engine or tranny, thank God) on the side of it. replace a tranny for about $3k @49,000 miles and OUT of warranty and see if you like writing that check. its pathetic that an american car co cant make stuff last longer. instead of them pissing and moaning about toyota, nissan, and honda, maybe they should take a good long look at themselves and just make better stuff. no fancy slogans or 'revolutions'..the only revolution they need is to stop making crap.

well i had a 99 silverado z71 w/5.3 v8 and it was pretty good - few probs...then major tranny probs.
before 20k, the steering stem bushing had to be replaced (but GM is still using the bad part in production to this day) the passenger side window motor had to be replaced. unbeleivably, the flywheel was loose and made a ticking sound- took them allday to trace it to the flywheel. they put lock tite on it and fixed it but said if it was brought in any later, things would have been toast.
around 37k, the switches for the 4wd had to be replaced...49K the tranny had to be replaced mentioned above. no prob with engine other than the ticking that was fixed under warranty. it never missed, ran good. was actually its best part. oh, and never break the multiswitch (the blinker, wiper, dimmer, cruise control lever) or have it go out. its $309 (was) and a pain to change. mine 'clicked' oneday and broke when signaling, it kinda got ok then the wiper intermitten delay speed just jammed up a few weeks later and didnt turn anymore and then the thing just wouldnt move - the whole lever. cant really explain what happened.
for maneuvarability and the fact that i spend 90% of the time NOT hauling anything and when we do ride we pull a trailer - i recently went toyota 4runner sport edition w/ the 4.7L V8. tows 7300lbs and handles great - no body roll in the turns. that X-REAS suspension is amazing.... the tundra is rated at 5000lbs. its in the manual and believe me- this 4.7-liter DOHC 32-valve i-Force V8 hauls @ss and would leave the z71 i had sitting there. has a good sound to it too. everyone that drives it looks at me and grins gleefully when they press the gas. they cant believe the way it moves for what it is. almost got a new 07 avalanche but the bad GM taste was still in my mouth so i went toyota.
but chevys do get beter mileage than the rest of the gas engines.
i actually like the fact that the tundra is 9/10 the size of the rest- makes manuevering thru parking lots and stuff easier. work at a place with 2500+ employees and limited parking and you will see. better yet, go to a university with 20000 students and about 5000 spaces, you will appreciate maneuverability.
toyota's new tundra will be out this fall or early 2007. its BIG and has 5.7L available now. love it or hate it styling though..can tow up to 10,000lbs.

when i do get another truck, though, i think im going diesel.

Yup, no big surprise there. I'm sure they will be nice trucks, but GM just doesn't do it for me. I am finally getting used to the '06 style front end, but at least the newest ones look better initially. On a side note, why are GM and Ford basically selling boxes on wheels as trucks? Can nobody come up with a curvier shape?

I just bought a new truck last year, and trust me, the Titan was on the short list. Unfortunately, the local dealership just didn't want to deal with me. That and the fact they don't offer a real bed length bothered me, so I bought american. Georged, if you tow serious weight with your Ford, you will not be happy with the 1/2 ton Titan. Also, Japanese or not, the fit and finish is a bit suspect. I don't know about the '07s, but the first 2 model years have a cheesey dash and interior trim. I would have been happy with one, but my Dodge is a much better truck for my use.

Good luck then. Performancewise, the Titan is great. I was willing to live with a shorter bed. There is a Nissan dealer a mile away from my house that I pass every day. They had an '05 set up how I would have wanted, and I watched the same unit sit on the lot for over 8 months. I went in on 3 different occasions to try and deal on that truck, and every time I was told "These trucks sell themselves, we don't have to discount them." The best they offered me was $500.00 below msrp. Screw that, I went and bought a 3/4 ton SLT Ram LB for almost 2k less than they wanted for that Nissan, and got a heck of a lot more truck to boot.

didnt work for me. sry.

I see the bloggers really trashing it......I mean, it's a TRUCK, only so much you can do with it.

i wish dodge offered something other than the hemi in their 1/2 ton model that can pull-- i just don't think 4.7L will do a 5000lb trailer justice. comments? >>>>>>>>
The Hemi is a 5.7 litre the Magnum is a 4.7 litre. I don't see the Hemi having any problems with your trailer, puts out 345 horsepower.

i might have to buy an 06 so i don't have to get an 07 or newer... but my 99 silverado doesn't have any probs...
as for the titan... it is bigger in every dimension than my silverado.. i sat them side by side and measured, but seeing that my 5.3 engine is plenty for what I do.. and gets better fuel mileage, I wouldn't touch the titan.
kinda funny that the other japenese truck co.. toyota.. builds a full size truck just a little *smaller* than the typical full size truck (f-150, silverado, dodge 1500).
i'm sticking with chevrolet for 1/2 ton trucks... i wish dodge offered something other than the hemi in their 1/2 ton model that can pull-- i just don't think 4.7L will do a 5000lb trailer justice. comments?

I know, I screwed up. Try it now.

The front end looks kinda ugly. But i also said that when chevy changed the front end last time. Ill just have to adopt to it. I would like to see what a 3/4 version of this would look like. Does anyone know if the GMC style changed???

Need the new Esclade... over 400HP and also 400tq

Update... http://www.canadiandriver.com/articles/jm/07gmtrucks.htm Its has many pics of the new chevy and GMC. I think the GMC looks better. But in 07' the trucks look pretty damn sharp!

I don't tow anything or carry much other than firewood and project materials in the bed, and the quad when it has to go in for service, so those aren't factors. I originally purchased the F350 for interior space (4-door) and bed use, but my wife hates driving it due to length and height of cab access. It's a big truck. That means she won't drive it and uses our cars as a pickup truck for various shopping, so it has to go. I've driven all the 1/2T offerings, pricing is about the same, but felt the Titan was head and shoulders above the rest in performance and features. In my part of Oregon new vehicle sales have slowed way down and for cash any 1/2T can be had for $2-300 over dealer invoice.
