I tow my 16ft flatbed trailer with up too 4 quads on it with a 91 Caprice Station Wagon.

People laugh at it because from behind, you can't see the car. My buddies get pissed because I leave them behind with their big trucks towing their trailers. I run down the freeway at 74 mph with my Cruise Control on, and I get around 13 mpg with it towing a full load.

I've towed with:
Bronco II towed trailer with dune buggy
Toyota pickup towed trailer with 2 ATV's
Ford F150 towed trailer with 2 ATV's
Ford F150 towed small 5th wheel which in turn pulled trailer with 2 atv's
Chevy Duramax now tows 25' 5th wheel with 14' aluminum twin axle sled bed behind it with 5 full size atv's.

I just go bigger and bigger, kids you know.

But we used to have a Nissan Quest minivan, and would tow our ski boat with it, and it worked great. Any V6 rig like that if you get a fairly lightweigh trailer you're good for a couple atv's on it and still get reasonable mileage.

A small 4 cylinder job like the Caliber I think would very easily tow a small trailer with one quad on it and still eat like a bird.

been thinking the same thing. bought the truck for atving spend 95% of the time going back and forth to work in it and not hauling anything- so now considering a new toyota rav 4 with v6, 269HP, gets 21/28MPG- thats the 4wd one. Towing with the package is 3500lbs. shoud be fine for a trailer and a few bikes.
dont laugh but the BMW X3 also a consideration- looks better, they pull the same weight, are great handling, little less HP, but cost MORE. plus, not 100% convinced on BMW reliability. seems like some people get a good one, some get a bad one. seems like a 50/50 chance. too much $$$ to roll the dice on. anybody know anyone with one? im curious.

We'll be towing our second car (aka. sportsman) with our 05 Toyota Sienna.

I got a chance to sit in a dodge caliber at the international auto show in Calgary .. how do you like yours? What package did you get? They have some amazing features in that vehicle when you load it up and out of everything in the show, it placed second in my books for comfort. 1st place went to a $70,000 (cdn) Infinity SUV. The Merc's they had there couldn't touch it for comfortable seating, including one that was stickered for over 120k!!! Third place by a hair was the new Civic. Keep in mind, that's of the vehicles that I actually sat in ..

When I had my 250R I hauled it around with my El Camino SS on my pics page...does that count? Talk about horrible gas mileage; I was lucky to get 10 mpg with a strong wind pushing me!

Skillz from these forums used an old junker camry to tow his DS650..

I knew a chick who hauled a Warrior behind a Honda Civic in a 5x8 snobear trailer. she took it everywhere.

I towed a small 260 pound 4' X 6' trailer carrying my Suzuki Ozark 250 with my old 2003 Dodge SRT-4. I would get all kinds of weird looks from people as I pulled in to ATV parks, till they heard that I would get 25 mpg @ 75 mph!!!

I don't have that car anymore though (I've got asmall truck). My fiancee has a 2005 Toyota Corrola that I am going to install a trailer hitch on it (Toyota rates it to have a towing capacity of 1500 pounds). That way we can both go riding on my ATV with all kinds of camping equipment and get better gas mileage than my truck.

I was going to pull an aluminum trailer (covered snowmobile trailer) with my brother's 400ex and my z400 in it behind my mini van. I forget what the capacity was without the "towing package", but it's 3800 with it. I don't have the package, but I believe all it added was a tranny cooler, reese reciever, and the wiring. I figure with both quads being under 400 lbs, that gives me 3000 lbs of room. I'm guessing the trailer weighs about the same as one of the quads.

Sorta touched on this subject earlier...

I'm wondering how many people are towing their ATV's with a car or CUV, or at least considering doing so. I'm coming across more and more people on other boards at least considering it due to gasoline price gouging. Most cars or crossover type vehicles have a towing capacity of around 1000 pounds, which is borderline just enough for a quad with aluminum trailer.

I myself traded in my truck recently for a Dodge Caliber. My first add on purchase for it will be the Mopar trailer hitch. By next year I want to spring for an aluminum trailer. I'm probably going to sit this riding season on the sidelines until I have my new vehicle properly equipped to haul, and I'm debating whether or not to keep my current quad or sell it and downsize to something lighter and easier to pull.

Just looking for some general feedback here.

I've only had mine a few weeks, but so far so good. I like it a lot. I do miss my truck a little, but I don't miss the fillups at all. In my Ram I was getting 13 to 15 miles per gallon. In the Caliber I get around 28.
I got an SXT model, 2.0 with the automatic CVT tranny. The SXT comes with the most popular options, and I definitely liked the bigger 17 inch wheels, they really give it an aggressive looking stance. The interior is very nice, with the exception of the wierd looking stacked gearshifter location.

The car reminds me very much of a downsized Durango rather than an entry level car. Features like the chill zone cooler and the fold flat rear seats (not to mention the good gas mileage) really make it a good vehicle for road trips. My second choice was a Chevy HHR, but once I actually drove the Caliber, I made up my mind that it was what I wanted.
