The same as stock. YOu just have more power now.

prolly that of the stock configuration, before the wheels, tires take a ton of power

Why not just do a leveling kit on it? This will bring the front end up a couple of inches and give you some clearance for some larger tires. You will have the bigger look you want without dropping major coin. Sweetie won't have to worry about trying to climb into a truck that is 8" taller either.
We do a LOT of these at our shop. One of the most popular mods we do on the new F150 is the leveling kit.
If you want more you are going to be in the 4" range or higher if you choose. Add the larger tires to this and your end result will be more.

I think that's your best bet. You won't be out the huge expense of doing a lift and wheels along with major loss of performance.
The truck will still be able to tow and drive without the power loss of larger tires.
Let us know how it goes.

i just bought a 2005 f150 4wd and i want to put a lift and some wheels on it but not sure what to do. my wife is about 5 3" so i dont want to get outragious but yet i want it to look nice. it has the 5.4 v8 so i dont want to over do it on tire size either. theres a picture of it on my page. need a combo

how big of tires can you go before you start taking away from the power. if i did go with a 4 in lift and just put some meaty stock size tires on it would that look stupid?

i cant remember what they said the rpm difference was between those gears. i tried to tow a my trailor up an 11 percent grade at 4000 feet and i was doing a wopping 15 miles an hour in first gear. once i got over the 11 percent grade it was easier but not what i wanted. i have a stupid super lite weekend warrior fs2500 and its not very lite at all 5000 lbs before any gear water or gas. i figured i was towing about 6700 lbs. as far as braking coming down the four lane which is the 168 i did not seem to have any problems keeping it under control as far as speed wise. they said i would be fine as long as i did not try to do 80.

Even with the gears, you are still not up to your stock configuration as far as towing is considered. Have you thought about braking? Those tires you added are going to make a huge difference. Also, you now have different driveline angles which puts more stress on all your driveline components. I would have gone with 4.56 gears before the 4.88's. You will be taching higher then you expect.

Here are some rough numbers for you. With a ratio of 3.73 you are running 1600 rpm in OD and 2300 in 3rd gear doing 65mph. If you were to install 4.56's you would be running 2800 rpm in 3rd and 2000 in OD. Now if you install 4.88's, you would be running 3000 rpm in 3rd gear and 2100 rpm in OD. All of these numbers were assuming you were driving 65 mph. Depending on how often you tow your trailer, you may want to think about the gas mileage while empty.
