I'm building a Quad deck for my truck 8x7. I need to make some ramps 12"x 9', heres my thought 1.5 tubing with 1.5 straps for treads. I need to use 1.5 for treads since i already have that materail and we know what aluminum cost. I will be hinging the ramps, one will be 5' and the other 4'. the wall on the tube will be 1/8". when you unfold the ramp the hinge will support the bottom and on the top i will put 1" tube welded to one side so when unfolded it supports the top. i can either drive the quads up or wench them? will the ramps be strong enough for a 800 sportsman?

what do you think????????????

Have you thought about using rectangular tubing instead of square tubing? 1.5 doesn't seem strong enough for the load you would be putting on it at 9 feet long. I will check out what thickness I used when I built the extensions on my ramp. I don't remember off the top of my head and they are stored at a yard. I'll post when I get the inforescue

I made my ramps two pieces, so I could use the shorter set when loading the truck without the rack, then bolt the extensions on to use the rack. I put some removable legs on the short section, seems to hold up to my quads o.k. very little flex. I used 1" sq. steel tube 13 ga. if I remember correctly.

I had a freind build mine. We havent got around to the ramps yet. So far I just use the truck dock at the elevator a few blocks down the street and my short ramps. Then at the riding area I just find a hill to back up against. I dont use the rack hardly at all though just on long trips when I need to pull a camper or something. Otherwise i typicly just use my trailer. I will post a link to pics of it as soon as they are up. We havent decided how to build the ramps yet but they are going to be either 10 or 12 foot long and hinged in the middle.

Here are the pics of what I have so far. Like I said no ramps yet but I dont intend on using it more than a time or two a year. Some day I will get around to the ramps. I cant figure out how to post it as a link so you will have to cut and paste.
