I'm a Chevy guy myself but that would never keep me from getting a Ford. Do not turn your back to the Ford just because of the blue oval. If you can get a better deal on the Ford or if the Ford fits you better then I'd say the decision is made.

Bought my 95 Ranger new in 96, but it's a 2.3 motor. Currently 178,00 miles, driven every day. Pulls 5x10 trailer with two quads no problem. So far, other than tires, fluids and filters, my big expenses have been a new clutch and timing belt. Both would have to be replaced eventually on any vehicle, and replaced the belt tensioner when the belt got changed. Total cost for parts and labor for all was 1300 dollars. I did use an F250 to stop it with once. Hit so hard it broke the motor mounts. If it weren't for the slight dip in the front bumper, you'd never know.

Also find out who he got you approved through. The dealership themselves do not do the financing just the paperwork. Once you know who it is, go to another dealer and ask if they use that finance company.

If you look at the customer satisfaction ratings the Ranger comes out on top.

I hate Fords but a freind bought a used 91 from his work and it had well over 200,00 on it and he has been driving it for arounds 5 years now. They thought it was abought dead so he got it for $500. Now it is around 280,000 and still runs great. He has done some work to it but nothing that was life threatning. It does need some work but nothing that is keeping it off the road and definatly nothing that is going to get done to it anymore. It needs all new ball joints and stuff of that nature but they are more than the value of the truck so he just keeps driving it. It has the 2.9 V6 and a 5 speed 2wd. I still dont know if i could get myself to drive one as my good vehicle but I guess if thats the way you have to do it then so be it. Personaly i would ask them to find you an s10 that is more to your likes. Any and every dealer will find you a vehicle if they dont have what you want. Try that. Get aproved for a certain dollar amount and then tell them to find you a S10 in that price range.
