Hehehe... I hauled a Ford 1ton and his 35ft toyhauler fully loaded DEAD WEIGHT all the way back to camp after he lost his motor in the creek at Pismo! Oh wait, that's not what you meant???? Just kidding! I have a 27ft Prolwer toyhauler and don't have any problem. Just seems to be a little slower than my "diesel" friends going up the Cuesta Grade

But it sure was fun

I can tell you from experience that Miki's V-10 Dodge didn't pull my 28ft toyhauler up the Cuesta Grade any better then my V-8... the only thing that passes me is those dang diesels.. ha! And who cares who's truck is faster up the dang grade anyways??? Men and their ego's... geesh! img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-tongue.gif" border="0">img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-tongue.gif" border="0">

Yeah, but Karyn, that was unsafe and illegal. You don't have a Class A with droubles endorsement. And I'm sure you exceeded your GCWR.
Please go read my post in this thread. All of the calculations you need to do are there. Remember, err on the safe side.

Kamots, I'm sorry, but I'm gonna have to call BS. I have a friend who has a darn near 40' 5er toy box with a GVWR around 14K. He pulls the Cuesta grade (mentioned by Karyn) at barely 35 by the time he hits the top with the tranny down to 2nd gear and the engine screaming along. And it's only a few miles long. Maybe 6%. Meanwhile all of the guys driving PSDs, Duramaxes & Cummins are waiting in Paso for their gasser friends to show up (and gas up.) That friend also eeks out a measly 6MPG towing. Of course a trailer that size needs to be pulled by an F-450 or F-550 (same drivetrain, just running 4.88 or even a 5.something rear if you run the V-10.)
And I wouldn't exactly call rescue a troll as he's a moderator. That doesn't mean he's infallable though.

My friend's truck is an '03 F-350 SRW CC LB 4x4 XLT.
Posted by: BlackandRedWarrior
Karyn, that's because his is a Dodge and those were only good for sucking down gas. There's a reason they don't use it anymore.

Save the thread!
I've got a 2002 HD2500 Crew 4x4 6.0 6.5box with 4.10 gearing and stock tires. I've been shopping for a toy hauler and though I'm really hesitant to pull a 10,000gvw trailer, it seems anything less just doesn't offer as much room for 2 atv's and a dirt bike, plus allow enough headroom where I don't have to duck the A/C unit (I'm 6-3).
I've been looking at the Tailgator by Thor. Bumper hitch. Anyone have any experience pulling one of these with a 6.0 GM?

Kamots,
You come out here and well run questa.
Load the trucks with 10,000lbs each and see who makes it up first.
Id even put money on it.
Unless your truck has some SERIOUS mods it cant 0wn a PSD.

BlackandRedWarrior you didnt mention what truck you buddy is driving. And if you read correctly, rescuediver, is the one who started trashing on my truck first. I will always defend myself against trolls. Like i stated above, i did not hate on diesels.
Powerstroke01 you dont know my truck. You probably dont know V10's either. It would be nice if people could get along, but it's obvious that diesel owners have to think there the best, as you showed with your little remarks. Ive got a few IH gas motors that would pull your truck and trailer into H.E.L.L. while your still sitting in the drivers seat in shock. Grow up, expand your knowledge. Move on.

What all do you have done to you V10 to make it so powerfull?

Rickpred, from what i've read the chevy 6.0 gasser even with 4.10's will struggle quite a bit with 10k in tow. But thats only from what i have read. Good luck.
Ostrich i agree with you. There are silly people who drive in excess, and with that i dont just mean over the speed limit. Too many people think they can handle their rig even at the speed limit and find otherwise. I usually drive quit a bit under the speed limit, because im in no hurry and i dont trust other drivers.
You contradict yourself. Do you speed or don't you? Why only speed with your boat? It can blow a tire or throw a bearing just like any other trailer. Actually more so, everytime you launch/retrieve your vessel, the wheels/bearings get wet.
You say you pass the oil burners. You can't touch an oil burner with your rig. And, when you THINK you can, watch that gas guage suck itself dry.

What type of terrain will you be towing over and what gears does your 2500HD have? The 6.0 really struggles on the hills with heavy loads unlike the Dmax. Personally I wouldn't go over about 28ft TH or 10K lbs fully loaded with the 6.0. Otherwise you will always have your foot in it and be getting some really crappy gas mileage.
Posted by: ostrich
ricpred you never stated what gears you have? 4:10 would be good if you're going to do any hills, 10,000 lbs sounds like a very good number to me. My friend has a hd with a 6.0, and its o.k., he just takes it a little bit easier with a bigger load. Kamots..... the oil burners you passed with your v-10 were obviously driving the speed they felt like, not as fast as they could, even with an aftermarket supercharger you would have trouble hanging with a PROPERLY set-up oil burner. I'll go with any of blackandredwarrior's numbers, he steers to the side of caution, we all know theres people who like to push the limits, and every week we see their picture on the news somewhere, crashed, its not always how fast you can go, sometime you gotta stop, or turn, or something. Be safe, its not always the destination your in search of.

Well there are obviously some people here who think diesels are the best thing since sliced bread. I've owned several. No big deal. Rescuediver you very cleary dont know jack about the V10's. When and if you do, then i will debate them with you.
I dont mind passing people while im pulling my boat, my truck barely notices that its there. And that is what i mean by speeding when pulling anything. It's absolutely ludicrise to think in terms of speeding while pulling anything. I've seen it done with and without bad results, its not for me nor anyone with half a brain.
I do regular maintenance on all my vehicles including all the work on my project 4X4's. So it's safe to say i know what im doing and when.
I see by your sig that you have a ford diesel, "'01 F250 4X4 7.3 Powerstroke, CrewCab,Bank's Big Hoss power chip,Bank's Transcommand,4" stainless steel exhaust, 4" lift,Weld"Outback"wheels" that is one thing in your favor, but having the ego of a regular forum troll is not. Your diesel cant hold a small 4% grade compared to mine.
So since we're all clear on your limited knowledge of these engines why dont you try to help the guy that started the post with something oh lets say informative and helpfull.
Have a great day.

Hi Gang,
My wife and I are new to the toy hauler scene, and also have a Chevy 2500 HD crew cab 4x4. We are planning on buying a 21 foot Rebel XT. Has anyone heard good or bad about this hauler? Also any input on other models of similar size would be appreciated as well.
Posted by: code3
Hey Rickpred... we saw a small dealership by us with one, and by far it appears to be the nicest around. The only thing is, I can't find any reviews on this trailer, good bad or indifferent. Obviously the dealer says it's the best around.... but as I recall reading from someone else, dealers tend to be less than truthful.
The Rebel XT offers alot of goodies on these trailers that a lot of other dealers add on as options, such as a 20" color tv, dvd player, coffee pot, and even a hotel style wall mounted hair dryer, and an electric tongue jack... etc. The price is OK at about $24000.00 for a 21 footer, but I am very leary about things I can't get a review on, and I have been able to find other brands for a little less. As I mentioned earlier, we are new to the travel trailers, and we don't want to get something that is more work than it's worth.
Happy camping !
