I had a fairly specific wish list that I gave my dealer in early June - when the PWEP offer first came out. 2500 long bed extracab 4x4 with the D-max and Allison. None were available then. Since then it's true, most of th D-max's are gone. Just as well, I think I'll wait out the new 900 style set to go in '07.
As a side note, my brother got a GM truck a couple of weeks before the PWEP offer started. With regular promo's that were going on at that time combined with the dealer really wanting to make the sale, he got his truck at better than what the PWEP price would be.

Anyone else wanting a new truck all of a sudden??? I got my eyes on a brand new 2005 Silverado 2500HD 4x4 Reg. Cab 8ft bed with the 6.0 V8 gas. Regular price is $31,200 and with this sale they got goin on it's only $23,500! I wish I had the cash for a down payment! Sounds like one heck of a deal.

It's a good and bad thing if you ask me.
Good = You can get a new vehicle at a great price or more of a vehicle for what you had to spend.
Bad = Resale values suck, the cheaper the new ones are the less your used one is worth. Also if you already get the price break by being an employee and everyone gets it, it doesn't seem like much of a benefit to me.
I looked into trading my 04 Sierra 4x4 ext cab for the same thing only crew cab. It has only 7k miles, listed for $32k 9 months ago and all they were willing to give me for it was $15k. In may before the employee pricing the same dealer was going to give me $18,500 with 1k miles less then. The value dropped $3500 just from that offer.

For GM employees everyone getting the discount is a bummer. When the promotion goes away you have the luzury of getting the dealer talked down off of list price and then dropping the employee discount in their lap. With this promotion there is no way a dealer would come off list price KNOWING the customer is getting the discount. This results the dealer actually making more money than with no promotion at all. GM is apparantly still making money as well or would have never made the offer available to the public.

All the current discounts are good if you don't have a trade. If you do, you will get screwed. They are not going to give you much for a trade when you can buy a new one for not much more. But then it has always been that way when the auto makers offer such deals it kills the used market.
Good for those looking to buy a used truck though as they should cut the price on them too.
I am just going to wait a few more years to see what Toyota comes out with in 2008. I think that is when the HD diesel is supposed to arrive. My Ford has been a good truck ( unlike my previous GM and Dodge experiences) but every Toyota product I have owned has been exceptional.

TextSuprisingly, when I traded my 2003 HD 6.0 w/ 50,000 miles on July 5th, they gave me $2,000 more than the Kelly Blue Book stated the trade in value was. Add that to $10,000 off the new sticked and I payed less for the DMax/Allison truck than I did for the 6.0 gas engine in Jan. 2003.
That's great. Hope everyone trading gets treated that way. Dealers must really be hurting to do that. About time the buyer gets the break.
I will still hold out. My last GM experience was horrible and Dodge has never been good to me. And I, like many others, am still hesitant with the 6.0 in the Fords. So I guess since my 7.3 is doing all I ask of it, I should be content and keep it.

I traded my '03 6.0 gas for an 05 Duramax with this discount $10,000 off the $45,000 sticker price. Ended up paying less for the Deisel than I payed for the gas motor truck. BTW my brakes work great!

I just heard we are leaving here to dump the Hemi for a Dura-max. I think I get a new truck today.

There isn't a Duramax pickup left to buy. We went to or called every car lot in the area. One place has a flat bed, and a cc work truck. The rest not a single diesel pick up.BR>
I guess I'll look next weekend.

Yeah we made a deal with a dealer about a month ago. It is better then the 3'S we were seeing today. It is a 3-4 hour drive, to that dealership, though. I figure 4 hours to save a few grand would be a reason for a trip.

Yeah no kiddin. We spent 3.5 hours bickering trade in, on the 1500 hemi. We got close to NADA, and Kelly but off by a couple grand. I got a 3500 with the cummins. I like the engine, and the truck is almost identical to the old one.

Theyd have to cut that price in half to get me to buy one. Even then i most likly wouldnt.
Ok ill just admit right now that i wouldnt at all.

Looking at a GMC Crew Cab 4x4 Dmax for 35K (45K sticker).
Wouldn't touch a P.S. 6.0 with a 10 foot pole! WAY WAY too many problems with that motor.

my brothers friend just bought a2005 quad cab diesal silverado dually for 35,000,it was origanlly 52,000.this gm is a good thing but watch out with the brakes they suck n i know many people havn probs with them.

I would think with that kind of discount you wouldn't really need a down payment. I would look into using some of the rebates toward your down. The bank will generally never loan more than MSRP. So the dealer could sell this deal to the bank with no actual cash out of your pocket. Go for it, the worse that can happen is you go home with what ya brought.

I have been getting this discount for years- used it on my 97,99 01 and now my 05 Z71 1500 series. I actually made money on each truck I bought when I sold them!!!
GM had some issues with the brakes- but had them corrected. For about 1 year they had brakes that were failing at fairly low miles. I never heard why from the brake guys (spend some time out at the proving grounds for GM, and Ford and DCX- fun stuff !!!) I suspect it was a cost savings idea gone bad- because I heard that they were failing sooner but were still within the normal range... then all of a sudden they were better....
If you need want a GM vehicle- this is a good time. If you are in Michigan- and they close the deal down. Might be able to give you some tips to get the GM discount anyway. Give me a shout and I will let you know.
