So I'm sitting at the stoplight in my 2004.5 Dodge RAM 2500 4x4 HO Cummin's diesel and I look over at this Ford F350 Powerstroke and I'm thinking, "he is going to want to race me." The light changes and I'm accelerating normally when suddenly the guy hammers it. Well, what is a normal red-blooded Amercan male to do in that situation? I hammered it too, of course!!!!!
Well, he completely blew my doors off. And I'm thinking, "he can't be that much faster than me!" Well, I got to thinking about it and I realized I was in over-drive. At the next light (he was long gone) I took the truck out of OD and for the first time I dropped the hammer. Holy smokes! Needless to say, if the testosterone ever gets the better of me again in the future I will not be losing any drag races to another stock non-Dodge truck!!!!

A TITAN? Titan what? Sorry, that one didn't ring a bell.
My Dodge puts out 600 pounds of torque. Its the highest on the market to the best of my knowledge.
Posted by: dbeck
I'm skeptical that it would beat the Dodge. The Cummins in the only medium class diesel on the market. Every other diesel is considered a light diesel.

I own an 01 powerstroke and a 04.5 cummins 600. Needless to say the powerstroke is for sale. The cummins motor is AWESOME compared to the powerstroke and i use to love the powerstroke till i drove the cummins. The cummins pulls like a freight train and the power never stops whereas my PSD has to REV a lot to get the power, they are 2 totally different animals and they both are good motors but i prefer the cummins now.

Dbeck, are you certain that Ford was "stock". Today ya never know when someone has the push-button programmers on board. I just gotta tip my hat to the top three for the advancements in diesels. Heck, the folk's new chev can tote tons of pregnant Arabians around. I'm still tryin' to talk them into a Bullydog or BD system.
The Titan is nice, but c'mon, hook 'em up w/ a strap and any of the American rides will pull that thing around all day long. Nissan has popped some really cool innovations though.

I really don't know who would win a drag race between trucks. All the diesels are stout. If all were equally equipped and unloaded, I would lean to the 6.0 Ford in a straight away race. Fully loaded I think the Cummins or Duramax would be where the battle is.
I just have the lowly 7.3 with the 4R100 auto and 3.73s. I have BD exhaust and gauges and a SCMT tuned to Tow-Safe 70 hp/110 lbft mode. It tows my 14,000 lbs of 5th wheel and ATV trailer fine. And last year on I-70, I was passing Dodge and Chevy diesels headed up the mountains as they towed smaller loads. Maybe bigger engines breathe better?
In stock mode, I would sure hope the other diesels kick my butt. The 7.3 is only a 275hp/525 lbft motor. If they can't, all their bragging about monster torque is BS.
Personally, I think the best truck would be on the Ford Chassis with a Cummins engine and an Allison tranny.

I agree on the older Dodges 'falling appart'. With that said I went out and bought a 04.5 Dodge 600. Boy I hope the Daimler/Chrysler merger will bring up Dodges QC
That is pretty accurate. But there was a trade off. QC of Dodge went up with the joint technology while Mercedes QC took a dive.

I think all the new diesels are impressive. My son-in-law has an 02 Ford PSD. He had one of those "juice boxes" (maybe not that brand), a larger turbo, plumbing, inter-cooler, propane, and huge exhast installed by ATS Turbos in Murray, Utah all for arounf $5k. They designed the original turbo for the first Power Stroke.
With the "chip" set to the max and the propane turned on, his truck is very impressive.
Nissan what???? When did they start making trucks????
Posted by: Specta
" If I'm not mistaken", you are mistaken. Do your home work. FoMoCo does not own the Cummins division that builds the diesel engine used in Dodge trucks.

This thread kinda reminds me of the old days when we battled back and forth about the GT Mustang and The Z28 Camaro. Anyhow, I have not driven a Duramax or a PSD but I did race both and was impressed at how well the did trying to keep up with me in my Ram 1500 HEMI. I do know that if we were towing I would be looking at there taillights.

So,,,it sounds like you guys are all saying the same thing,,,,,,,buy the Duramax,,,because the rest is trash.
j/k
unless its pulling 8000 and sitting under an 11' camper,,,i could care less how fast a work truck pulls away from another empty at a stoplight.
I just wanna be able to maintain 80mph no matter what the grade. All those trucks are in the same league IMO.

Hook a trailer up to that Titan and try beating a diesel!! Here's a bit of advice, stay to the rightBR>Shady, I'm thinkin' of putting that same box on my Dodge 600 as all I've heard is good things about it. Careful on level 4 and 5, I've been told it will slip the tranny on a case of severe heavy footedness!!!
dbeck... wait 'till you get the hang of launching your 600, those pesky Fords won't be too much of a problem any more.........

What do you drive Derag2? I'll bet it aint a Dodge! I went from a Duramax to the Dodge and I can tell you from experience(can you?) that the Dodge isn't the slowest. We've hooked up mine and my buddies Ford 6.uh-oh and I pulled him down the parking lot!!! I drive 75-80 almost all the time when I'm on the highway and I still get 16+ MPG, 11-12 pulling my toy hauler. Maybe you shouldn't speak on what you hear and report what you know.

The Edge Juice/Attitude monitor that I have has tranny safeguards in it. There's slip detection stuff that de-fuels in the event of detected slippage. Also, in the higher levels it backs off the fuel delivery right before the shift so as to not shock the tranny too much. The Allisons seem to be pretty safe up to about 750 lbs torque which is about level 4 or 5 (5 is the highest) on mine. I hear that if you watch the lead foot from dead stop with heavy loads and stay out of O/D with heavy loads you eliminate most of the worries. The Edge is also nice because you can program it to de-fuel at your own chosen pyrometer temps for no-brainer safeguard.
Level 5 on mine is like added 120 horsepower and 250 lb/ft torque. Stock my 03 max is like 315 and 520 so I top at 435/770. Either way, it pulls like a train with the thing juiced up. Now I need cold air intake and big exhaust. Very fun stuff.
It does have some great features to it!! I wish I could get the Allison for mine boy do I miss it......

I think when I finally get a real truck it will have a Volvo, Freightliner or Kenworth badge on the front. Everything else is just a toy. Overcompensation....not really. Way to much money....hell ya. Actually you can get a Class 8 for less than an MDT (Class IV-VI). The Volvo 610-770s are popular for the dropping the middle axle and chopping the frame down. People are starting to actually order them from the factories instead of buying used (300-600K on a Class 8 is like buying a "normal truck" with 70,000 miles.)

I just put in an Edge Juice box with Attitude monitor on my 03 Duramax. 5 levels of power improvement up to 125 horsepower and 250 lb/ft of torque. It is just crazy what these modern diesels do now. The thing feels faster than my Mustang Cobra. Can't wait to tow all my junk down to Vegas later this month.
So, DBeck, them Fords give you any more trouble, that's your answer. Click on up to level 5 right while you're driving, and lay down some law!

Dbeck, I've noticed that my Dodge accelerates alot better if I poke it from a stop than if I hit it after I'm rolling. The boost seams to take longer to spool up when your already rolling.
Derag2, what kind of problems have you heard about, maybe I should check them out.

DBECK....That ford you raced WAS NOT STOCK. I work on both those motors all day long. I love them both, but there is no way in hell a stock PS pulled away from you, even if he had the jump! You can do some serious stuff to the PS if you have a deep wallet. I seen a lifted F350 with 44" mud tires LIGHT-UM-UP AFTER he was already rolling (no dumping the clutch) As soon as you heard the turbo, they lit up. The cummins and PS are both great but neither one can hold crap to the Duramax when it comes to after-market HP and Torque! AND you are wrong about the PS being light duty! They are both medium duty, just on the lower scale. International has the PS and the 466E for medium, and Cummins has the 5.9 and the 8.2 Put a turned up 8.2 in your truck if you want some fun

He's correct, cummins has nothing to do with ford. The only connections are International Diesel to Ford, Cummins to Dodge, and GM owns the controlling rights to Isuzu (the Duramax).
The only reason I butted into this thread is because Diesel engines have been putting food on my table since I was 4 years old and I have been doing it for ten now my self (for you thick headed people; my father was a diesel mechanic and I am now! Some of you people try to give advice because you "drove" one once, ECT............... or whatever. Keep you mouth shut unless you have a clue what your talking about. Out of the 1300 or so posts, I like to say that I added at least a little bit of info/insite to something; others are just wasting space.....

That is because the Cummins went to the "common high pressure rail" . Puts out more HP and runs a crap-load smoother and quiter. Hell of a good move on Cummins part! I used to hate the noise the Cummins made, but they hit the nail on the head latley.
And to add a little knowlege to this situation. Isuzu was the first company to use the Common high pressure rail in a commercial setting. It worked great, the only prob with it is if you run out of fuel is is hell to get them reprimed because the pressure balls in there get "back -seated" The 6HK1 was the engine it came out on, which in turn led to the design. "duramax". To tell you the truth Cummins actually did a slightly better job on the high pressure rail design. There is my added 2 cents BR>

That video is pretty cool but i'm sad to say that powerstroke has a Cummins 12Valve in it.......
Posted by: Derag2
If the ford was a 6.0 then yea it'd put a whooping on you. Dodge is the slowest truck of the top 3 loaded and unloaded so why is it such a big deal you got beat? the cummins will make the most power of the 3 diesels the duramax responds the best to simple mods but there more aftermarket stuff for the cummins than anything else. You don't hear of very many high horse duramaxes. I like watching you dodge boys scramble trying to prove your truck. From what i hear the cummins 600 is the worst motor they've put out. But i'd have to say thats pretty much true for everyone, i think as the years have gone on the motors have become less reliable with all the electronics they put on.
You got beat big deal theres always gonna be someone with deeper pockets that'll beat ya.
Posted by: Derag2
I don't think i said the duromax doesn't make high number i said you don't hear of very many...... But the cummins will make the most out of any of the 3..............
I just hear about the cummins getting crappy mileage now, no power, guys say they'd rather have a 12V than the 600.
Posted by: Derag2
Ummm i said it has a cummins in it because i know it does because i've seen that video on about a million other boards............. And i've driven dodges before and we have one at work and its junk. so i do know............ I've driven a friend of mines duramax and i have to say it was pretty nice.
I drive a ford 7.3 powerstroke.
Posted by: Derag2
did you put that thing on a dyno to come up with those number?
Posted by: OneFlyCowboy
All things = guys except the Manual Tranny on the Dodge and an Aftermarket Auto tranny (first one the torque Converter Grenaded and took out the tranny too) oh and a Banks monster Exhaust on the PSD. The PSD absolutly destroys the Dodge up hills. towing the same Gooseneck horsetrailer with 4 horses (20k with the ford across scales I dunno about the dodge) on the same hill goin up to our ranch the ford will make 10mph more. with an auto i dunno what would happen. Just cant seem to get that shift with that much weight on a 10% grade and still be able to accelerate. goin down the freeway the dodge is a nicer tow rig cuz of the manual. The PSD Shifts on grades where it should be able to just be able to pull it.
When it comes to trucks on the roads bein stock thats kinda like stock ATVs arnt many out there

Hope you never come across a TITAN.You WILL lose.

In fall we have a competition at our local drag strip. Its cold a fun people race there haulers to see whos got the best. Know its called deisel days. My buddies duramax ran 11.7 @ 117 1/4. On chip alone he runs a 12.3@ 116. It is a extended cab Lt. Its funnier than all hell to pull up next to a corvette or a mustang and kill it. We spray it 300hp in 4x4 and there isnt much that can hook up that good.

First of all the Titan is a piece right next to the duramax diesel. Cummins makes the best diesel. Not only is it the best, it is owned by Ford Motor Company. They bought out cummins.
Posted by: bballbryan88
ford just bought out the company but dodge kept the contract. that came from a cummins rep
Posted by: -JR-
If you want to make a race truck ,just but low end gears in .
Some of those Fords came with 4:56 gears
They make them feel like they have alot of power in the city
But put them on the hyw and their tanks are emty at 400 km instead of 800km
ps
I work for cummins ,Ford does not own them !
Dodge does not own them either !
Ford just wants to but them in their trucks also !
Posted by: -JR-
Which rep was that and from where !
I meet with the Canadian cummins owner every 4 month in canada ,as I heard this also .The mislead was taken from a magazen ,they just got a contract to buy engines, they don't own them .
