We found a 1996 Collectors Edition Vette in an old ladys garage under a cover today. Basically its barely been driven in the last 10 years.. Only 1000 miles been put on it since 1999. Its only got 23000 miles total. My uncle told me it still smells new inside. Last time it was driven was in October to be smogged. Carfax checks out good as well. Shes the original owner.

She said any reasonable offer basically. My dad is really interested in picking this car up. Any reason NOT to? Obviously wed trailer it back...

I really think he just wants something faster than mine.

Same rules as the XT: you don't to drive it? [IMG][/IMG]

Bah.

Did you go riding?

nope

Anyways. I just went out and drove the truck. the code was P1316.... Most likely a wiring harness.. So the PSD is down for a few days.

dieselstop shows the code to be P1316 "a, b IDM Injector circuit/IDM codes detected"

IIRC, on a chipped truck it will usually throw this code because of the additional fuel thrown into the system.

i don't know if you checked the thread I posted on the CPS when mine went out on my PSDBut, it sure could be ittoo! However, mine did throw a code for it.

Hi DQ, nice pictures

Opps, double post

The truck feels like its missing a few cylinders.. Otherwise its running fine.

As far as fishing and riding FROM the same place at bass lake? No.
But its maybe a 10minute drive to some riding areas.

So, is there camping 10 mins. away from Bass Lake? That way I can take the wife fishing after a morning ride. And take a swim to get all the dust off of me

That is one thing the CPS does, it can act up, then run alright for a bit and then just die. Mine lost it's ability to go over 25 mph. Anyways, good luck with figuring it out. Hope it doesn't leave you stranded on the trail

Like i said that was the first thing i thought as well. But this is different.

Pops called our trusty mechanic this morning. First thing he said is its probably an injector wiring harness. haha Could be a few more days though.

Blah.

Posted by: rescuediver

Double post? WTH

Posted by: rescuediver

Hmm, so if it is a injector wiring harnessdoes the whole harness for all the injectors get replaced, or can you replace just one injector?

Posted by: booboobear

the injector harness also affects the glow light issue, If you have problems starting it in the cold, odds are pretty good on the harness, rescue driver, what did your mechanic tell you on the front wheel bearings?

The whole harness. It shouldnt run more than 50-100 bucks. Though its the install thats really time consuming..

I could see that leading to tranny issues.

Posted by: rescuediver

booboobear, I talked to my mechanic. He said that there is no aftermarket kit he is aware of that you can use to replace the stock wheel bearing assemblyWhich is to bad. Seems a waste to replace the whole unit when regular maintenance of the bearings would IMO last longer.

Well, upon the advice of some friends I'm going to apply for a city job. Pays about 60% more a year. With things up in the air about a possible sale, having to work with this coworker and my own financial goals, some things are going to need to change. They don't pay me enough to be telling someone who has an BS in Elec Engineering how to do stuff. And it's not just telling him one. It's telling him MULTIPLE times how to do something, what to do and what NOT to do.

INjector wiring harness, theres a plastic part that wears out from heat cycling/time and comes apart.. It could be glued back together but its better to replace... They also replaced a valve cover gasket i think..

I'm having issues dealing with a new guy who's God's gift. He knows all. Is the best at doing whatever. And he found out I ride and wants to go to Pismo sometime (he's got 4 quads I guess.) Well, he can just hold his breath. When you're having to correct the drawings of someone who makes considerably more than you and who is supposed to be all that...it tends to wear on one. Especially pulling the hours I did this week when he left several hours earlier than I would each night.

I'm used to the way mu supervisor and I do projects. It's much more efficient with less down time for me waiting for engineering.

For Fathers day I got 12 dads together for our own tournament. Just to even out the scores, low score every two holes has to drink a beer. I think after 18 it should be a funny site. Then we all go back to the ranch for some BBQcan't wait for Sunday

Well....uhh...I'm going with some friends. Officially as a member of CATVW? No. I'm not a member of CATW (and haven't been for a few months....we'll leave it at that.)

I'm going over with some friends (the ones that got me into riding.) Though we'll probably be in close proximity to CATVW though.

"Long Valley Daily Update issued Jun 12, 2007 10:25 PDT Volcanic-Alert Level NORMAL - Aviation Color Code GREEN
As of 10:15 (PDT) on the 12th, the earthquake sequence that began with magnitude M=3.6 and M=4.6 earthquakes at 12:22 and 12:23 AM, respectively, has included nearly 90 aftershocks large enough for the automatic computer system to detect and locate. Five of these have had magnitudes of M=3.0 or greater. The most recent of these was a M=3.5 earthquake at 8:11 AM this morning. All of the earthquakes continue to be located just east of Lake Dorothy in the Sierra Nevada (2 miles SE of Mount Morrison and 9 miles SE of Mammoth Lakes). We see no evidence for any increased activity within Long Valley caldera. "

And they're still continuing.

We should be starting some work over there pretty soon. Long drive...like 8 hrs via the desert route (99-58-395...or something like that.) Unless the boss shuttles them back and forth...maybe 30-40 minute trip at 250 kts.)

I remember Loma Prieta. Was watching the 5 o'clock news.

Got woke up by Northridge. Was like WTH was that? Then the radio said I-5 was closed at Magic Mountain.

Last one I really felt was Paso Robles in Dec '04, IIRC.

Oh yeah, and when Parkfield went. (was at the office for both of those.)

Waiting patiently for the Tajon section to go. That will be "The Big One." Last time it leveled Fort Tajon and LA wasn't much then.

They canceled a 4.0 and one lower down at Gorman this morning. Wonder what it was.

Welcome back.

Well, I finally flipped the axles on my camp trailer. It gave me another 6 to 8 inches...which wifey totally enjoys. The only bad thing is that the axle arc is now facing down.I hope it doesn't give me any problems.

I am confusedLike that is the first timeWhen you flipped the axles, didn't you just place everything on top of the axles, without moving the axles themselves? Or am I missing something????

It is at times like these that I'm happy to be single.

Posted by: Whitewater

The axle brackets that sit on top of the springs are welded to the axle. So when you move the axles from on top of the springs to the bottom of the springs, the axle is rotated 180 degrees. Thus, what used to be the bottom of the axle is now the top of the axle.

Anywho, I picked up new axle brackets (channel iron), and hope to get them welded on the axle. That should fix the problem.

Posted by: Trasher

I wouldn't be flipping the axle 180 You just need to get some spring perches welded on the top of the axles so the spring will rest on top of the axle and not bolted from underneath. That should give you about six inches of height to the trailer. (I'll leave the joke open for you here)

Posted by: Whitewater

The axle brackets I just bought are probably the spring perches that you speak of. And yes, six inches would be nice.

I just need to unbolt the u-bolts, weld the spring perch on, and rotate the axles upright again. Right now my tires toe out a little bit.

Just got back from Pismo, seeing more bigger and better towing rigs down thereSaw 5-5 Kodiac 4500s and about the same in the F650 categoryOne F650 went all the way to Kentucky to get his custom paint job. Good looking truck.

Skinner, electrical question for you. My Honda 5000 generator stopped making electricity. Last time it did, the GFI circuit breaker kept tripping. Now, I can't get it to trip when I test it. The switch on the breaker flips or trips real easy, kinda like a house light switch. Should it be stiffer? (That's a loaded question and is there a way of checking the breaker before I pay an arm and a leg? Reminder, I am not real good with elelctricity

If a GFCI is constantly tripping it's usually one of 2 things: there's a ground fault somewhere and it's behaving perfectly normal. 2, it's gone faulty. aka NFG (let you're mind wonder on that means.) Will it trip without a load? Trip with any load? Only trips with a certain load? Without a load I'd say it's bad. It should just be sitting there looking pretty. With any load, sounds like it's gone bad. With only a certain load, check the load for a ground fault. Chaffed cord or such.

And since it's not tripping on test, that's pretty much a bad thing. Are you getting any power from any of the receptacles? If not then the generator itself (stator) could be bad. And yep, those go bad too. With a 5K set, there's probably a 30A 240V 1phase receptacle on their. If you have a meter check for power there. If there isn't, the main breaker could be bad (generally breakers are stiff. (loaded comment))

To check the breaker check for voltage on the line side (incoming from the generator). The breaker should be a 2 pole unit. Which means you'll have 4 wires, 2 line and 2 load. If there's voltage on the line side, but no voltage on the load side, then I'm gonna go out on a limb and say it's bad. If there's power on the load side and it goes off and comes back with the breaker then the breaker is good. Just start tracing down to the individual receptacles.

I'd suggest wearing some leather work gloves just in case there's a ground fault on the generator itself. No bare skin and only 100% cotton clothing. And I mean ALL clothing. You can test with a continuity tester first. Ground receptacles should buzz out to the frame as well as the neutrals. The hot shouldn't.

Would anyone mind linking me to or pointing me in the right direction of the sites that you guys feel are most valuable to new diesel owners?
I'm the proud new owner of a 2001 F-350 7.3L 4X4 XLT Crew Cab. 150K miles. Very nice condition for the age.
Although fuel economy is less than anticipated I'm very satisfied with it up to this point.
Thank you gentlemen.

To answer your question, I visit dieselstop.com. Done a lot of research there.

I have the same truck as yours with 143K on it. Really never gave me a problem until I reached 138k. Since then, had the transmission rebuilt and a new starter. For towing, I love itIf the wife was to tell me it was the PSD or herI'd have to take the truck, seems I get more enjoyment out of itJ/K,Enjoy your PSDAs far as mileage, best I ever got was around 22 mph coming home from Idaho couple years ago, was averaging 14-17 but since going to 17" wheels, I get on average 13 mpg around town and towing 12K, 10 mpg.

This threads been slow

Had to take the Prodigy brake controller off the truck, it was showing a ground problem to the trailerNeedless to say, the trailer wasn't connected to the truck. Prodigy says they will warranty it. Just need to find a dealer to swap it out for me. The store it was bought at won't do it. New owner and I can't find the receiptWorking with another shop, hopefully find something out next day or two.

I came to the conclusion that Weekend Warrior did a crappy job putting the frame on my trailer for the ramp. It was held to the wooden frame by 2 screwsimg src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-shocked.gif" border="0"> And they had backed outcausing the frame to tweak and crack the sheet metal skin. Spent the weekend fixing one side, now need to finish the right side. Also cut 3 feet off the drain pipe and added a 90 elbow to it, now there is no kink in the sewer hose. I even put a clear pipe on the hose so I can watch the @#$% go bye-byepainted all the stabilizers and legs. After the sheet metal gets finished tomorrow, need to refab the bathroom sink, going from a oval sink with an offset faucet, to a square sink with the faucet in back of the sink. Oh yea, even adjusted the brakes on the trailer too. Hopefully that takes care of the lack of brakes I've been feeling. Would love to try them out, but had already removed the prodigy and gave it to the dealer.ight now, I think that was a bad idea

Sounds like you have your work cut out for you for the next week or two

Posted by: BlackandRedWarrior

Yeah it has been slow.

Was busy at work last week. Just got a new 10K GVWR trailer at work and was weighing it and equipment. It was an hour for each weigh as the closest scales are 30 minutes by street away. Hopefully I don't get a call in the next hour oh so (Boss should be crossing the Tehachapi scales then.) Be interesting what kind of mileage the 6.0 gets running about 25,500 combined.

So this weekend I added another year the calendar. Actually made it to Pismo for a day trip on Saturday. That's just too much driving for a day trip. A guy in the CATVW group lost his tranny on the beach. 120K miles (sounds right for a Ford tranny on the back of a 7.3L.) He'll know more this morning. Either torque converter or front pump. Another person lost 2 tires on the toy box. Someone else I guess ripped a frame member off under their trailer trying to move it from the back or something. Not exactly sure. Let's see...probably sitting there at 10K (38' fifth wheel). Pull it from a floor support.

Yesterday I drove through MD and MWQs towns. Took a buddy up to look at an '05 Rappy, and he bought. So we "stopped by" Hollister on the way home. Ok, Rappy has so much more power than the Warrior. Ergonomics are 100x better. Met some friends there and one broke their arm on the track. Slid sideways through a corner and caught and dump him sideways.

So all in all one sweet bday weekend. Just could have done without the 700+ miles of driving.

Talked to the boss today at 4pm. He was on mile 600 of the trip. It's about 375 one way. So he must have been out in the desert somewhere, CA City maybe. Not sure. Going east over Tehachapi he was doing 50, pushing 30psi. Leaving Bishop I guess there's a 6% grade from 5000-7000'. He was pushing 42 and only getting about 10 or 20psi. And the start off (assuming he stopped for fuel) sucked. Trying to get on the road with zero boost (elevation plus it was still spooling up.)

He told me I'm driving next trip. :/ And I think I'm going to be pulling the air compressor. :/ (trailer? What trailer?) At least that will only be one way. Coming back, screw the mileage. I'm gonna burn fuel to get home.

Well I made it to Mammoth and back. Lots of driving and lots of fuel.

VERY happy with the way the truck performed.

First leg: 212.2 miles, 20.138 gallons for 10.5 MPG. Didn't weigh, but she was probably 16K on the truck and 3000 trailer. Tehachapi was the only major grade (filled up in Piersonville which seems to be dominated by the Shell station. 3.279/gallon. Had no problem keeping 50MPH and 25psi.

Second leg: 300.2, 28.234g for 10.6 MPG. That's a round trip Piersonville to Mammoth Lakes and back. Climb was Sherwin Pass, 6% from 4000' (Bishop) to 7000' (Tom's Place.) Was not much traffic. 45-50MPH pushing 25psi at time. Not sure why the boss was only getting 20psi. Though I have to tell you turbo lag at 7000' from a dead stop trying to cross 395 is a bit disconcerting. Foot to floor...wait...little movement..and at about 3000RPM she took off.

Last leg was Piersonville to Fresno. 218.2 miles, 17.875g for 12.2MPG. I think she's breaking in.

Return trip I was empty.

Was going to stop at Jawbone Station but I would have had to cut off an 18 wheeler to make the exit. Some gorgeous scenery up along 14 and 395. Red Rock Canyon was pretty sweet. Now I know where all these places are (including Dove Springs.)

I went to mammoth pool yesterday. Thats about as close as i got to mammoth.
Almost ran into some cows too

Pretty high boost numbers on that truck. My buddy in his 'o5 is blowing the clamp off of his inter-cooler to turboLet's see it's happened 8x's already. Ford diagnosed the problem saying the turbo is going at at 28,000 milesAfter they fix it under warranty, he is putting an after market turbo on it. Should take care of his turbo lag

How big of a job are you guys doing over there?

It's like a mini-storage place. But they have telephone backboards and power panels in each unit. My guess, for people to store snowmobiles. Then there are some store-front style places with garage/warehouse in the back.

Really!!! Can I fit my 36 footer in at Miami?

We're headed to Dardanelles tomorrow for the weekend. We won't be riding our quads. Just hanging with friends before they go on their yearly 2 month trek to Elk Camp in Oregon. Then, in 2 weeks we're suppose to go above Jackson for 4-5 days. That will be a fishing/slash quad riding trip

Well, got tired of my Prodigy and not being able to easily swap it out with another oneNo one will take the initial loss for it's replacement. So, I decided to put a draw-tite on the PSD. Had a couple in the past and never had a problem with them, hopefully that's still the case.

LJ, over on the Club ATV site, I see you have posted in the weekend ride thread about Strawberry lake. How familiar are you with that area? Might be worth the drive to check out the areas that were linked to the thread. To bad the links show the forest service website is down

I've seen them that big in there before at Lone Sequioa. There's another spot just east of Kamook that might be a bit tighter, but has less trees.

I thought the Prodigy was supposed to be the best of the type. What kind of swapping were you doing.

The IBC in the 550 is really nice. Completely proportional to pedal pressure. You can be sitting there pulsing the pedal while stopped and watch the graph go up and down. Had to explain to the boss that the slider was for manual control of the brakes.

Im betting that Miami creek is probably dry. haha
Theyre stocking all the creeks and rivers above bass lake.. Its in the paper up here a few times a week saying when they do it. And i was up there last week when they were.
Ive been scouting out campgrounds with my mom looking for nice ones with room for "large" trailers and lots of riding available.. The only issue is that some of them are not easily accessible.

I was initially going to swap out a new Prodigy for my old one.

I was getting a false reading that there was a problem between my trailer and the tow vehicle and my trailer wasn't attached! I would get the flashing code every so often at first, then it progressively worsened to where it flashed more than a revolving mirror at a discoChecked everything on the truck and couldn't find anything wrong. Finally emailed Prodigy (actually the maker) they called back after 3 days and told me some units will give this false code. They said they would warranty it, however, finding a dealer to do it was another storyCan't find the original receiptand the business where it was bought refused to help me. So, I had it replaced with a Draw-tite at my buddies shop and will see how they handle the return.

They are suppose to be the best out there, but my buddy has replaced 3 plus mineAnd has yet to be reimbursed by Prodigy. And my readings at RV.net shows others are having code problems for no apparent reason alsoSo, I had Draw-Tite before and never had any problems with it. In this case, I think easy is better.

F&G plants trout around here at above Sonora in the forks of the Stanislaus River too.

I also went site looking today. One of the downfalls of having a long trailer is 80% of the camp sites in the National Forest can only handle trailers up to 21-24 feet.

Should have just traded up to an '05-'07. I'm sure the wife would understand.

LOL! I wishMy buddy is thinking about selling his '05 (the one with turbo problem) and buying a 2008 PSD. I would buy his, but it has way to much "bling" on it and I wouldn't enjoy 4x4ing in itAnd the wifey would really like to hear about me wanting another PSD after putting a new tranny in this one.

TorqShift is nice. It's fun even in town w/o a load.

I'm getting used to the fronts of the '08s.

I read an article in Consumer Reports that really dogged the ride of the HD trucks (GM, Ford and Dodge.) Ummm...how about this...they aren't going to ride like a Caddy you nimrods. Unless someone puts a full airbag suspension on one.

Posted by: rescuediver

That's the problem with people nowadays, they want to be able to haul the house on it's foundationbut have that plush don't hurt by butt rideGive me a break, it's a truck built to haul your butt and trailer around

Posted by: rescuediver

We took my buddy's '05 PSD in to the dealer to have the turbo replaced. Come to find out, they said it didn't have the latest update installed on it for the turboso, instead of replacing the turbo they reprogrammed the turbo and sent him on his wayThe PSD still lags big time! Not being very happy he's looking at getting a new truck. Test drove a new Chevy last night, what a dawgNot much better then how his '05 is running. Tonight drove the new PSD, now that thing pulls great and looks a heck of a lot better than a Chevy.

And what is up with Chevy and their LT1, LT2 LT3 and LTZ? Thought I was at a Suzuki dealer.

Man, dealers suck. Couple weeks ago the supervisor takes his Expedition in. Radio was throwing codes and the CD took a dump. Pull the radio and sent it off to be replaced. Friday they put it back in. Put the radio back in, but didn't notice that they put the dash trim on wrong. Completely covers the gear selection window, trip meter select/reset button. Just completely wrong.

Posted by: rescuediver

That is lame as heck! Like you couldn't tell things didn't line up

Posted by: rescuediver

We're taking his into another dealer tomorrow and see what they come up with. We do know one person who had his '05 bought back from Ford for the same reason my buddy's is having problems. Unfortunately, my buddy's has after market goodies under the hood and they will probably fight him on it. Even though it's a common problem among the '05 models.

I purchased a 99 F350 dually crew cab with the 7.3 Diesel about 5 months ago and already have made modifications. I purchased an Edge Evolution Programmer with 3 settings.
1. Tow (60hp)
2. Race (80hp)
3. Extreme (100hp)
Yes, I have tried all 3, but I didn't leave it in Extreme very long. I still need to install an aftermarket exhaust and some guages. My trailer is a 6x12 enclosed and until I upgrade I believe the 60 extra HP will be plenty.

It's great having a work horse and hot rod all in one.

Posted by: rescuediver

Welcome to the forum Sleepy Floyd

I have the Evolution on mine set at 60hp along with the Attitude that runs my gauges and next 5 levels of power that I can adjust on the flyYou are correct that the 60 hp is all you really need for towing your trailer. I've seen the biggest gains at that hp with minimal loss of mpg.

well hey diddley-do there neighbors! I was thinking of MD cuz some guy over in the 'Zuki forum asked if he could put a winch on a Z400. I immediately conjured up an image of MDs "battleship iron" homemade mount! I told him to find you and ask.

We just bought an '04 Z400 Limited edition, with yoshi pipe, K&N filter, outerwear and powerlid, dynojet kit, Big Gun rev box, extra paddles & rims all-round, very little use. Now if I could just get it to stop leaking gas! The petcock doesn't seem to work cuz gas flows in the "on" position (it's supposed to need vacuum) and there is no "off". also, I cleaned carb, adjusted float level, checked float needle and seat.... the problem must be somewhere in the float needle, seat & float tho. we bought it in Eugene. Almost thot about getting one in Sacramento that seemed like a pretty good deal.

Anyways, just gearing up to replace my PSD ballljoints, inner tie rod, center link, and front and rear brakes. maybe even my rear E-brake shoes. that should keep me busy for the weekend.

I noticed my Tekonsha brake controller was acting up and making strange musical noises. Brakes also seemed lax. It's an older style controller that needs levelling, and then you adjust brake output. I see someone local has a Reese controller on sale for $65, so maybe I'll try that one and see if it's any better.

LOL! I did find some pictures of it, just need to figure out how to resize on a iMAC.

Glad you got a Z400, great bike, well it will be once you figure out the leak. Yea, the fuel flows via vacuum, it would be a lot easier if it was just an on and off pet cock. Sounds like your Z is pretty loaded, is it yours your did your wife tell you to move over and let her have the man's quad

If you showed up more often and posted about the Sacramento quad(s) I would of checked them oput for you. It's only an hour away. Would of loved having another Z in the garage

Sounds like you do have your weekend cut out for you. I did a lot of that earlier this year. So far, I think I've put around 8 K in the PSD this last year or soShould be good for another 145,000 miles

I gave up on my Prodigy and installed the Draw-tite. Could be happier. If your using the old level it as you go model, you do need to step it up and get away from the old model and get one where it doesn't matter what angle it is.

Posted by: nedflanders

the Z is for our 12 y/o. he'd mastered the 250EX and wanted a Yammy 350. I thot, why not get a GOOD quad instead of an average one.

the z400 in Sacramento is/was on Craigslist. A stock '05, "like new", $3500 OBO. it was the guy's wife's quad.

went to replace rear brake pads and was a little confused why the outer was metal on metal, while inner was like new!? Usually piston side of caliper wears faster. turns out rotor is badly warped. so now it's time for a new rotor too.

so are you LESS happy with the Drawtite vs the Prodigy?

well this weekend's PSD job got delayed. I tried ordering new balljoints from an outfit off of ebay, back in late July. They couldn't get my credit card to go thru. SO it delays me a week until I get home from the NORTH, and I order online, thru Paypal. For some reason they take 6 days to receive a Paypal pymnt that cleared my account moments after I sent it. Now their incompetence is just PMEOFF. Like they think the customer should cater to them for bidness instead of the other way around. To ice the cake, they shipped item on Aug. 16 and it's now stuck/delayed due to a train derailment!! AARRGGGHH!!

Posted by: rescuediver

Smart move. The Z should be all he needs.

That's a good price. Bought both of mine for about the same price.

That suxs!

No, I am happy with the Draw-tite, I can actually get the brakes on the traler to lock up. couldn't do that with the Prodigy. Think I am to old school. The prodigy had to many problems and when it came down to it, Tekonsha (or however you spell it) blew me off on a warranty swapThe Prodigy I think has 4 computer chips in it and I think they don't like talking to each other, always bickering back and forth, sorta like my kids

Up north? You one of those frozen lake truck driver's? Show if holding me over until Deadliest Catch starts back up.

If I had any luck, I am sure it would be just like yours

we were a bit north of Prince George.

Yep, second house is now fully legal and rented. of course, it requires us to have 13 horses.

what is it with me and 'Zukis?? I can't seem to ever stop working on them! the LT50, LT80, LT160 and now this one...always tinkering with something.

May 5th was our last recorded rain. This year its not the amount of time since the last rain that is bad..... Its the fact that weve only had 8.2"s of rain up here TOTAL this year. Were kinda behind.

Yeah. I just wasn't completely sure. I don't have anywhere to ride here. The neighbors have told me I can test on their property, but THEIR neighbors might not be too happy. Besides, that place has seen more police action than the local donut shops.
