I don't either. Some of the sh!t makes no sense. Or it does in some weird way. They reduce fees, but you spend 3x that much in labor just trying to figure out WTF you need or should be doing. All of this gets dumped on my desk because the office manager is blonde. She doesn't like to think. She'll cancel accounts at suppliers if their billing doesn't match up with our AP dates.

They're just a bunch of tree huggin, Hybred car driving (while flying privite jets), pro taxes, nut cases. With all those qualities, common sense is not needed to do the job.

1. If that is the one I have heard, it's pretty throaty and louder than the stock for sure. Any one will be a big plus. Diesels need to get a lot of air in and out.

2. If you are planning not to do extensive work to the engine, I would stick with the 4" system.

Just my two cents................... BR>

Thanks,
My main goals are...

1) Moderate increase in power.
2) Reduced EGT temps.
3) Better sound...more of that turbo whistle.
4) Keep it warranty legal.

Prolly go 4" with a 5" SS tip.

Thought about using an intake box, but after reading several diesel forums, found that the stocker with a K&N works real well and keeps dirt out better.

No programmer either. While I liked the power it made for the 7.3, I got nervous each time I took it in to get the oil line to the turbo replaced...twice. Actually 3 times, but it first happened pre-programmer. Then by bro-in-law bought the truck, had the programmer stolen and had to trade it in instead of keeping it because the warranty would have been void.

You know we have this retarded woman trying to take dave rickerts spot in congress.. she seems to believe the bush tax cuts keep the wealthy from payin their share.. 35% isn't enough when a poor bastard pay10% or less. WTF.. how is that fair i say. Irregardless of moneys made If joe pays 10% so should Sam. and thats fair.. Not just cuz you make more you pay a higher percentage.. Because you make more at the same percentage you will pay more. but proportionally its the same to the individuals earning power.. How is that so hard to comprehend for people. Basically unless your just dying to throw money away, the stock Donaldson filter is the best system going. Unless you have extreme mods (more than just a chip and tuner) you will not see any performance gains.

The only way to increase air flow is to decrease filtration. This is a basic fact of physics, no matter what the slick advertising by the aftermarket air filter manufactures say.

By replacing the factory air intake with and aftermarket system you risk premature engine wear and failure do to dusting.

Read the facts and then make your own decision, it is your money and truck.

Hope this helps

Gotta watch those in CA. CHP might decide that he needs a motor carrier of property permit, commonly known as a CA Number (because they are "CA ######" on trucks.) And thus he should stop at scales. And I don't think MD wants to be stopping at the scales. hr>

It would be hard to find out for sure without doing a oil Analysis before an after to see what is getting into the system. Just check micron ratings on any filters that you use to see just how small of a particle it will stop from passing through. If it was a long haul truck or piece of equipment that is run a long time, items like that are a big plus to the ROI.

It's a bummer that you have to take it in for repairs again but as least it sounds like he's stepping up and making it right with you. If he pulled the axles he should have sold you thoses in advance just to do it right and cover his tail to help prevent a come back.

Yeah that's a problem with Gov. work. Your salary is your salary. Nothing extra ('cept OT.)

Met a guy who is Madera County SO (Ag Crimes) last ride at Miami (he's a friend's best friend) his cousin was one of the Fresno PD officers who got ambushed a couple weeks back. Both are expected to make full recoveries. His cousin was hit like 4 times. Once in back, vest stopped it. The guy tapped himself before SWAT go there to do it. Last guy who shot a FPD officer got shot a week or two later. Hopefully they put that entire family in jail for hiding him.

I think they are searching for money any where they can. I bet Ford is going to sell a lot of F-450 SD PUs. They are selling them with factory bed options for MY '08 (Jan. '07). I saw one 450 going down the road that the bed was was flapping around (aft of the rear fenders.) If you're gonna put a bed on, do it right. He was set up to haul a gooseneck.

Well that should be tweaking off a lot of guys. The entire Valley (Bakersfield north past Sacramento) is all enhanced. I know that MY '07 they are supposed to start particulate traps and what not. Eventually CARB will clean up diesels to the point that they will be damn near as clean as a gas vehicle so we should see more. But that might not be a good thing, considering fuel will go up with the demand.

Maybe that will push Biodiesel like it has with Ethonol. (Not complaining on Ethonol production, we've been making money off of that. )

That should definately push the big three's 450/4500 trucks then. Since they are for the most part all 15K or above. I think 450s are 19K, or at least available to 19K. Or maybe that's 550.

With ULSD they can be used. The problem before was soot plugging them.

California Class C (a regular lic.) allows for up to, and including 26,000lb GVWR (and ONE trailer GVWR up to and including 10,000 GVWR). All states should be that, considering commercial is regulated at the Fed level. You can go 10,001 to 15,000 GVWR FIFTH WHEEL on an endorsement that's a written-only exam.) Beyond that (15,001 5er, or 10,001 other) you can get a Restricted Class A (restricted to non-Commercial use only, or if you're a farmer within 50 miles of the farm.)

RVs are licensed on length. Over 40' (I think), they are Restricted Class B. No weight restrictions.

I wonder when/if they will add on to the Class B for over 26K, for non-commercial. There just hasn't been much of demand. Kind of a new thing, so we'll see.

There are many issues that you will be seeing with ULSD fuel. Biggest being lack of Lubrisity which will mean the injectors, pump, and liners will be taking a beating. Should start running an additive like Essentialube or Power-Kleen to handle the sulfuric acid and handle the corrosion problems plus stabilize the fuel.

Get ready for some testing of diesels in about 6-8 months in Cali, mostly in "enhanced" testing areas. They have started particular traps in heavy equipment and on the road trucks plus more goodies to follow

They've been threatening to do that for years. i am sure it is coming. I also think they can not go backwards and hit older vehicles on the road. think they will start with the newer ones. We also live within the CARB regulatory zone. What some people are doing is getting a friend's address or P.O. box in the hills and registering their vehicles up there to circumvent the restrictions. I myself would never do that

Been thinking about getting one done on my truck seeing it sees more in town driving and less hwyguess I should of done it when we moved, that way I had a baseline on what changed (if anything) from all this city driving.

It's a bummer that you have to take it in for repairs again but as least it sounds like he's stepping up and making it right with you. If he pulled the axles he should have sold you thoses in advance just to do it right and cover his tail to help prevent a come back.

I hope he makes it right, I am willing to pay for the parts, I would of in the beginning, but labor should be all his. And he did pull the axles. He gets a lot of his businees through referrals, if it's not taken care of, it will definately hurt him. it's amazing how many people I know own PSD'sand use him!

I didn't hear about thatJust heard a Sacramento Officer was shot and killedSad!!!

Loading up to come home last night saw life flight come in twice. Landed over by the ATV / Lodge MX track.

When it's muddy! It hasn't rained in a while, so that's why it's so darn dusty. Once it rains it gets better. Not sure why they haven't done any trail maintence this year. Maybe they sent everything (Equipment, People, Money) down to fix Hungry Valley.

Trying to finding legal riding places here that are less than an hour away. Not having much luck.
Are you running a spark arrestor at Miami?
With all the fire danger here I don't want to ride without it and possible start one. Gotta get one for the 250 and mine since it's wide open BR>
Are there noise limits there to test beforehand?

CA limit is 96dBA anywhere. Is it enforced at Miami, not to my knowledge. There isn't even a place I think that would qualify for the SAE test (i.e. flat with nothing around it.) I've heard some seriously loud bikes there. Just keep it quiet if the Ranger is around. The joke is "Yeah, that's 96 decibals." Followed by wiping the blood away from your ears.

And spark arrestors are required pretty much everywhere but the dunes. That's one that they do check. Mainly there they check for stickers and spark arrestors.

We have a place out by the canal we can ride with no hassles. Its about 5 miles from my house. I have only rode there a dozen times or so. Mainly just to test things I had tried or a engine I just built.

I run a spark arrestor on all my toys and everything is at or under 96db. Except for the CR500, is at 99db but is a '85 and thats cool for it. I have never been sound tested at any riding area. But I have had a few of my toys sound tested at off road races. KTM 94db CR500 99db CR250 96db WR250 92db YZ80 90db

Years ago I was sound tested at a trials ride I entered. Had the mighty TL250 with a exducer silencer which was tunable and pretty loud. It passed without a problem but the tester didn't see that the exhaust exited out the right side before the shock and pointed to the right img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-shocked.gif" border="0"> He was standing behind it and the meter would not be pointing at it, but 90 degrees awayBR>

That doesn't stink, that blows. Like the winds at Pismo in May. They really need to hire some more people, even if they are just temp. Just remember. You are supposed to get 1 in 7 days off. They can go up to 30 days straight, but then you have to get 4 days off. Maybe they are planning that for T-day. Bastages.

You'd cringe (sp?) if you watched me play golf. I suck...big time.

Well, I started the thanksgiving holiday a little early. We are at the in-laws till the weekend. Luckily, they have a puter.

Oh, Mrs Hoss went to the big city the other day, and drove home with a new Expedition. Would any of your wives come home with a new rig, and not tell you?

Posted by: nedflanders

WTF?? i thot you just traded in the car (beamer??) and got her a Grand Cherokee not too long ago. NOW, she turns around and brings home an Expedition!!?? geez, I wish i had your $$. Hey, will you marry me?

my wife did that with a bedroom suite. I was negotiating with the store on price. it was a guy from India. He wasn't getting to his bottom line and was pi$$ing me off, so I walked. I told the wife his quality was shoddy (which it was), and we'd get a better deal and better quality elsewhere. so what does the princess do? she goes back the next day and pays MORE than the price I had him ground down to when I walked out!! AAARRRGGGGHH!!! And when he made the stuff, the drawers were crooked, the bed frame later fell apart (crashed during a session actually), and it was mediocre at best.

Posted by: nedflanders

just to get back on track for a brief moment, my PSD has been a little sluggish on cold start lately. Outside temp is probably 40 degrees or so. my batteries are 7.5 years old. Can you add water to these? put them on a charger? how do I check my actual CCA? can i do it with my electrical meter?

whew, that's a lotta PSD tech questions. I'm spent.

WOW, it kinda sux having your Thanksgiving this late in the year and this close to Christmas. Ours was on Oct 9 and we were still able to go camping and quadding. You guys had Columbus day at the same time, but is that a holiday from work?

whew, that's a lotta PSD tech questions. I'm spent.

WOW, it kinda sux having your Thanksgiving this late in the year and this close to Christmas. Ours was on Oct 9 and we were still able to go camping and quadding. You guys had Columbus day at the same time, but is that a holiday from work?

I think it would be safe to just go buy some new batteries at 7.5 years old. You check to see what their voltage is with a meter. I would assume everything else is sealed.

You can go quading here. Just head for the desert or the coast. It's been foggy here all week. Nothing terribly thick (like sub 1000' visibility, will drop to zero in some places.) Been 1-2 miles visibility at the most all week. Haven't seen the sun in a while. You know you're in Fresno when you can see the mountains 2 months out of the year (say April and October.) It's either fog or smog.

my wife did that with a bedroom suite.

Yeah, she had a Lexus LS 400 that we dumped to buy the Jeep. She's been saying she wants a bigger kid hauler, but I didn't think she'd actually go buy one without me there. However, now we have 4-kids, and they won't all fit in the Jeep. We have been using the Man Truck to haul the fam around. It's been okay, cuz it has an 11" DVD screen, but it's kind of spendy to drive on long trips. Also, I don't want to put a kazillion miles on it.

My new truck is sluggish on cold mornings as well. It starts okay, but it has to idle a while. I'd just buy new batteries if I were you.

Columbus day is a day off for Bankers, Gov'n workers, etc, but not for a low-life like me. However, I get tomorrow and Friday paid.

Well, today, I went on the ATV ride of my life. It was pucker factor ten...steep, rocky, side-hill riding. I went with my brother-in-law (who knows no fear). I consider myself a pretty good rider, but this 3-4 hr thrill ride, scared the living $hit out of me. Yeah, I'm a pu$$y.

Posted by: nedflanders

i have cousins that take me on those kinds of rides. scares the crap outta me, and i always wonder how my wife will be spending the life ins $$.

hoss/skinner, I added a bit of water to the end cells on 2 of my batteries. they were both low. then i charged them up. they still seem a little weak. but rather than listen to your good advice about replacement, I'll probably leave them cuz I'm too much of a cheapazz to spend the $150 on a pair of Costco batteries, and wait till I'm really fooked in the middle of nowhere, and they completely tank on me. then I'll cuss myself out about how stupid and cheap I am. If history is any indicator, that's most likely what I'll do.

the voltage seemed good and showed 15V when fully charged (according to this new battery charger I have).

Posted by: BlackandRedWarrior

Shouldn't they be like 13.9 when fully charged?

Posted by: BlackandRedWarrior

Hope everyone had a great turkey day. I don't want to see another damn turkey again!

Posted by: nedflanders

yer prolly right skinner on the full charge voltage. It's one of these electronic chargers that displays 15V (which seems wrong to me).

I SHOULDA listened to you guys!!! when the batteries were weak at 40 degrees it should have been obvious they'd be dead at colder temp. well, we had 2' of snow. my buddy had his quads stuck on the top of a mtn and wanted me to come help him get them back to low ground and then take them home in our trucks (his truck was stuck at the top of the mtn, too much snow). well, my batteries wouldn't crank, at all!! so off to costco to buy a new set today.

so i set up the snowblower on my tractor. AWESOME attachment...prolly the best ever...until I F***ed it up. i got it icy and clogged up. kept pushing it. heard some bad noises. then cleaned it out, went back to clear again and ignored the noises. I tore the driveshaft out and the front PTO. I THINK the driveshaft may have bent..not real clear. I'll have to mess with it, and then ALL the snow will be gone. WAAAAAA!!!!

Hello All

Just got back from 9 days of camping and riding at PismoWeather was great! Had 65-70 dgree days and cold nightsRiding wasn't to bad. Crowd was actually decent, not overly packedNew trailer worked out alright, noticed the heater worked when it wants to (remember those cold nights) think the sensor that opens the valve for the propane in on it's last legHad a new refer put in it and that worked greatKept that turkey and ham nice and cold.

Took the loaded trailer to Flying J and had it weighed, only 11,220 lbs. Truck was 4400 on the front and 4700 lbs on the back axles. If skinner doesn't reply with I'm over weightI'll have to look at the door sticker and figure it out. Had a buddy going up the Cuesta Grade and blew his inter-coolerFortunately FORD is doing it under warranty, even though they read him the riot act about having a chip in it and a lift.

That sucks about the heater. A friend's went wonky on his first trip to Hollister in '03. That sure was a cold Feb. night. Brrr.

That's ONLY 500lbs over. But then again, being overweight is like being kinda pregnant. Either you are, or you aren't. What kind of pin weight do you have? Maybe try and load some stuff a little more to the rear if possible. Did you have the heaviest bikes on the rear end?

I was kinda wondering why you were missing last week. Forgot you were going out on the road.

Looks like the company may be joining FBK. Just saw a quote come in with the engine option being a 6.0PSD. About 42K for a 550 flatbed (19K GVWR), std. cab 4x2. Err would that be 6x4 or 6x2?

Just picked up a pair of F-150s (std cab long bed 4x2) today. He got smart and went with the 5.4L. Hopefully he was smart and got the big GVWR package too. I haven't seen any of the paperwork on those.

Let's hope he isn't spending our bonuses.

Well, we've got cash to spend. So we also just dropped $4K on a new copier/fax/scanner/printer. That we're really needing. The existing copier is on life support. Even the techs say don't fix it, just replace it.

On a good note he did ask the office manager for the past 3 years of bonus information. That's always a good thing. He needs to take the highest of those amounts. Not he avg. Last year was a lean year.

Regardless of the size of your power stroke; it's a great motor. It's not the motor you may have problems with. Everyone knows (even if their brand byias) the simple little 5.9 Cummins is the true Turque monster. All you have to do is look at that National Diesal Truck drag competition to notice that it's 90% Dodge Cumins. But not to bag, all of my friends have the powerstroke and their all very happy. Can't talk about the DuraMax because knowbody I know has one. But I am curious about the famed Allison Trans, which is an available option.

And for all you Diesal owners who have chips ! Please tell me you have zero problems ? I hav'nt found a single person yet who hasn't suffered some form of complication or break from ANY chip addition.

My dad had a 7.3 crew with a 6 speed hauled the big work trailer with a new holland skid loader and other tractors on it no problem. The turbo took a little while to kick in with a stick then a auto, but a blast to drive.

Any motor or drive train will have issues crop up the more power you make it put out. I'm sure Ford/Navistar, GM/Isuzu and Dodge/Cummins could pump the hell out of their motors and put some impressive numbers out (look at the guys who do serious dragging (1200ft/lbs)) but they wouldn't be reliable.

It's going to be very interesting with the '08s and newer how they are going to fair with chips. Some stuff I saw is that you're not going to be able to chip them and not have problems or get caught. Rumour is also CA may start smog testing them as well (and I'm sure they would work with the big three to find the tell tale signs of chips.)

Alone...in the mountains... If the trailer is a rockin, don't come a knockin.

11283636.... I've had a mild 50-60HP chip in my PSD for the past 70,000 miles (6-7 years), and I haven't had a problem. I had to duct tape it to the computer box because on rough bumpy logging roads it would rattle it just enuf to loosen it and then it'd run rough. Once I insured it was snugly attached, it's never given me a problem. I've done no other power mods (no exhaust, etc..).

Got the machines out this weekend to do a little service on them. Been a while since I rode them but we're going to the desert in 2 weeks One of the holeshots were flat so I might throw in some tire slime since I couldn't find a hole anywhere. There was silme in there before I changed them so maybe the rim leaks a bit.

Went out and drove the little white ball around and spanked my son's behind by shooting a 78 on the very hard par 72 course. I was pulling shots out my rear all day long I really wish I could play like that all the time.

Well I finally got the clutch cover recall taken care of.. Nothing like a free oil change. The bike has even less scratches now.

See there are 2 class action lawsuits against Nintendo? One because people are breaking stuff. Windows, TVs, themselves. The other because people are forced to physically exert themselves. What a bunch of lazy bastages!

Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays, Winter Solstice, whatever floats your boat. Anyways...

No clue. On how much.

Check out The Diesel Stop. It's the ford diesel forum.

We have had no dice in locating a captain chair, center console F-550 flatbed. I think because we're probably looking for an XL trim, and not an XLT. We did a not great conversion on our current 450. Evidentally, the passenger seat leans a little outboard. LOL.

No kids here to drive me nuts. Only got one present for a kid this year. My friend's daughter. I'm sure she's gonna be one spoiled girl this year. She's probably driving them nuts. LOL. Hard to say, she's a good kid. I remember when I was young I'd always wait up to catch Santa. He was one stealthy SOB, let me tell you.

Now I just need to 1) figure out how the heck to rap a 27" TV 2) get it inside without making a lot of noise. One idea is to not even wrap it. Just stick it in the entertainment center tonight.

my 11 y/o made a list of stuff he wanted this year. it had about 4-5 things on it, including an FMF pipe, jet kit, etc.. My wife and I kept talking about our dire $$ situation (not specifically to the kids). I was quite impressed when he took this to heart and scratched out everything on his list and just left one item; the Bearclaw tires! so he got a set of bearclaws for the rear, and a rear rack for the Honda 250EX. I know a sport quad is goofy with a rack, but he does tons of work around the acreage/farm.

Confused, I have racks for the front and back of the mojaveIt's not that unheard of to put racks on sport quadsRocky Mountain has all kinds of them. Heck I even know someone that put a winch on a sport quadBR>

okay, enuf abuse. I'm gonna try to throw the reigns on this thread and corral it back to PSD stuff!! I have a 1T crewcab with Captains chairs and center console. those morons at Ford... what were they thinking (the 40/20/40 split has an extra seat, plus all the console room you need when you put the seat down)!!anyways, I wanna put a center jump seat in. I've found a couple of places that sell them for around $400-500 (US). YIKES! Anyone know of where the best prices are for this kind of Ford stuff, or a good PSD chatroom to find out?

I agree with Skinner on the ford chat room. I have in the past found a couple benches your talking about on ebay, might try there and look around. If you don't find one, then maybe try contacting a couple of the yards that sell items off of junked vehicles, they might be able to help you.

The buckets in the 450 came from a junkyard I believe. But via a $tealer. Boss isn't happy with the current service writer. Feels we are getting shafted. Had to have a new rear-end put into a 150, pick it up and it's still howling. They replaced about the only part in the rear end that they didn't replace. Figure maybe someone would have test drove it... Yeah, the ladder racks make noise, but not at 15 miles an hour.

Well since MD is making us do it, welcome missfire. Never take anything we say seriously.

welcome missfire. I'm hoping with a name like "miss" fire, that you're a single female. it'd be nice to have some new female blood to converse with, until Hoss (aka whitewater) finishes her-assing you into leaving forever.

i checked 10 local wreckers and not one of them had the seat I want. THEN, they told me they wouldn't be interested in trading my captians chairs. wreckers are so greedy and sleazy that I can't stand dealing with them. and in this case it'd never be worth my while.

I replaced the front brakes on my OTHER diesel (VW jetta) tonight. the front pads cost $12. tough to beat that!

Finally slowed down a bit here at the houseHad time to start pulling the old rug out of the traielr, what a nasty job. Decided to pull the toilet out and replace it with a nice porcelian [sp] one. What a crappie job that wasAlso redoing the upholstery and blinds. Should look almost new when we are done

MD, ru renoing house or trailer? when we pulled out carpet in our trailer, we replaced it with laminate floor. cheaper and easier to keep clean. I'm sure it added a couple hundred pounds tho.

We're going to replace it with that peel and stick 12x12 tile. Wife and I actually agreed on the same one Of course after she spent $$$ on all the new upholstery and stuff, I didn't have much choice to get something different. Decided we are only going replace to the end of the kitchen and repaint the cargo area.

Thanks!Kinda funny. I have two jobs now and will be dropping one to move up into this other one. The first one is more of a side job that I can do in the spare time plus get commission on sales of those made by others under me in my territory. It's really weird passing on jobs that are really nice to get another. Never been in that position before

Eisel34- Welcome to the forumBR>
This debate will go on forever here and every other message board. Buy whatever truck makes you happy is what it's all about. After all, you have to make the payments on itimg src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-wink.gif" border="0">

Yes, the Duramax is a great truck and I love Chevys too. I own a F250 and a Suburban and I have been towing with the Burb more since I drag a bunch of kids with me

But the Chevy's are ugly as hell.

Then again, let's not talk about the '08 SDs.

Our work just posted that anyone driving the work trucks with the utility boxes needs to stop at all weigh stations. Think someone got popped for failing to stop at one

Wife and I finished putting in a new floor in the trailer, have to say it turned out alrightI have been running a heater in it to help it cure, been freezing here the last few nights. Trying to get it ready to do a weekend trip to Gorman in a few weeks.

It does sound like that. Our 16K trailer has only left the yard once in nearly 2 years since someone got popped for towing it.

And I always hate going through the scales. Last time I got some extra attention and a cute little yellow sticker. LOL. I think it took him longer to play with the computer that roll around under the truck playing with stuff.

Hard to say. Our current one really isn't dented up. Now, the paint on the bed, or rather what's left of it.... We have to take it in to Scelzi to have them make the side boards for it.

"It really expands our capability," I think is my boss' favorite saying.

Hopefully we can get fuel in this one. The other flatbed, which we still have, was a PITA to get fuel into. Truck was about $42K OTD. Std cab, 201"WB 4x2, err wouldn't that be 6x4? 4.88 diff.

Anyone know anything about heaters in Trailers/motorhomes? Ours has been acting up since we got itWith this cold spell 24-28 degrees at night over the next few nights, I decided to turn the heater on since it's at the house. Anyways, the batteries are charged and the blower sure does blow, however it has a problem igniting, I can see the ignitor throwing sparks, just doesn't have fuel (propane) and yes there is propane in the system. So tonight, I pull off the cover to the thermostat and clean the corroded metal "wings/fins" or whatchamacallitsAfter moving some parts to see if they did move, one of the brass "fins" gets very hot (burned my finger). I try to start it and low and behold, there's heat being put outBR>
Anyways, My question(s) are:

1. Should that so called "fin" get hot?
2. Has anyone replaced a thermostat with a digital one?

My next stop will be on rv.net
