What LJ said.. In general people with horses are pretty much tards.. Drives me up a-wall. tis why i pretty much don't assosciate with the general group anymore. I just do my own thing and help a select few out with their problems.. Most aren't smart enough to comprehend what your getting at. weee haw.

MD, I have a set of Firestones. i think the compressor is a rich-man's add-on. I have a portable air tank. due to the small volume, it takes a short blast from the tank to air them up. I consider them a load leveller. They don't increase gvw. Other than levelling out, no noticeable difference to me. the suspension guy was trying hard to convince me to add another leaf spring instead of the bags. bear in mind, I have a dually.

wow, you guys must have pretty weak impaired lawyers down there, or some kind of air-tight laws. I met one lawyer who had been doing impaired defences for 20-25 years. he hadn't lost an impaired or over .08 trial yet (altho he had lost refusal to blow trials). but then, the legal system seems to have a way of buttering itself. the judges are all ex-lawyers. so maybe up here in socialism land, the system is easier on the guilty? but I thot you guys had it kinda the same way? how did OJ get off when his blood was found at the scene of the crime?? that's a slam dunk in pretty much any country! what a circus that whole thing was.

Airbags.. Don't you remove some leafs when you put them in so your truck rides a lil smoother when empty?

DUI's usually are reduced to 1st degree neglegent driving or wreckless... if they are under 0.15... But we have a kicker system where you are prosecuted under seperate venue by the DOL. they don't care what was goin on. they just want to suspend your liscense. and thats not fair.. you do not recieve due process with them.

Exactly, that's where the DA screwed up, should of just introduced it into evidence. Everyone knows, once leather dries it also shrinks and I think OJ did a great acting job on not getting it to go onHe should of won an award for that performancehr>

Now. Presenting for the best performance in a criminal case...

Or should that have been comedy?

Would have been someone from that case:

Kato with the thumping on the wall.
Furman for the Bell not ringing a Bell.

I lost my job in the middle of that trial...so I caught a fair amount of it. Too much actually. LOL.

Let the rumours fly!

Ford - GM merger

Hell, all they would have to do is then somehow get Cummins to make them an engine.

F-Series / Cummins / Allison. (Yes, I've said before, you can get them in the 650/750, but really, how many people are going to go get a Class 6 truck as a grocery getter? )

I am looking at bags to level the truck out, already had the headlights adjusted to keep them out of the trees while towing at nightI know it won't change my GVW.

I was am leaning towards the on-board sooner or later, but the more I think about it and the more I see friends "not" using their's to air back up(they still use compressors) I think it also just a rich man's gimmick. Even though the push of a button is nice along with having a loud air horn on-boardHowever, I think I can work through those issues when the time comesReally thinking about adding an air tank to the truck. Figure I have two of them in the garage, only need to put the plumbing in.

Pops has this sitting in the garage.... Still trying to figure out how to mount it.

no need to remove anything to install airbag. they're fairly easy.

we sorta have a similar thing OFC. The governing body says driving is a "privilege", not a right, so even a charge results in an automatic 30 day DL suspension. so much for the concept of innocent until proven guilty.

The AutoSticks are a bit older, but I think the same thing. Been around for a good 10 years probably. Basically servo motors do the shifting. The first gen units the driver still had to operate the clutch on start and stop. Now, even that is taken care of. A LOT of the Class 8 rigs have them. The 10 speed AutoStick is popular in the Volvo VNL (610, 710, 770) rigs, that are popular (VNL 610 mainly) with the HD RV crowd.

Not really sure they are a retrofit thing. Though maybe if you found a good mechanic and a wrecked truck... Guys have afterall dropped in Cummins ISBs into Ford SDs.

Good morning all BR>
Been busy lately and trying to get in some last minute golf rounds before I go back to work Been nice having time off but looking for a job ain't a fun process. Funny thing is, when you finally accept an offer, everyone else starts calling you wanting you to go to work for them. Go figure............

In Dallas all this wek for training but at least the weather is nice here, for now

I have never been able to figure out why/how this happens.

Posted by: Trasher

It's unbelieveable how long the interview process is. I want to know where all these late offers were when I first started looking around.BR>
My buddy is hating his job and I told him to start looking now since it takes so long. I am going to keep a fresh resume posted and keep interviewing on any other offers that look good. You never know

WOW creator, have I ever been out of the loop! congrats on new employment, and smart on you to keep your options open. Your last job they seemed to be working the bag off of you, so I shouldn't be surprised you've made a move. I'd like to get a new job, but that rotten @#&*%# Bill Gates won't step down as Chairman of microsoft! Actually, i don't want his job, just his paycheque.

I'm trying to squeeze in golf too, but more because our monsoons will soon arrive, and by late october/nov, you can forget about golf for awhile.

I dunno why you couldnt bolt it up.. its only a 33,000 lb tranny.. wich aint much more than the PSD.. its an F-650 class tranny. Im sure they bolt right up to the cat.. I don't know why they wouldnt bolt them to the PSDs.. It would prolly take a lil retrofitting to get your 4wd and everything hitched in. maybe not.. Im not sure of the comparable dimensions.

it all sounds like $$ to me, which i don't have anymore. we have a local diesel tranny performance shop around here. they must be super-specialized, cuz I've seen several USA plates there, from Montana, WA, etc.. IF my tranny goes, I'll look at my options then, but I wouldn't change it just for the sake of a change. I don't have Hoss/Creator/MD kinda cash to do those sorts of things!

Posted by: OneFlyCowboy

It was allotta moneys for the tranny in the PSD preventatively before it goes TU you could just get it revalved and a better TC put in and then you would be all good.

the first car was a '64 Fairlane. don't think i smashed it up. BUT, i smashed bro's '72 Cortina into a tree before I owned the Fairlane ( i was on my friend's goat-trail road, thinkin Dukes of Hazzard as I fishtailed down the winding, gravel road. Inexperience caused me to lose it and smash tree). And right after the Fairlane, i had at least 3 or more hits with the '73 Pinto.

Hey Trasher,

I have a good friend who has a 97' F350 CC 7.3 Diesel and he loves it. I have seen it in action when towing and playing and it is definatley a great truck. He tows a 34' Ragen Fifth Wheel with 5 bikes and 1 atc. He said the the truck has plenty of power and it responds on a dime when he needs it to. I hope this helps and good luck.

Ok guys, back on to the topic of PSDs. I am thinking about getting an exhaust brake. After some research over at dieselstop, I've learned of the electronic exhaust brake. Here is on on E-Bay ]electronic exhaust brakeit was giving good reviews by PSD owners over there. Some say it doesn't have the same stopping power as a true engine brake, but for the price, it does well. There is also this one on ebay I found; another one. Now, let the comments flow

I knowAnd I prefer to stay with Banks. However, the $1000-/+ or so price is a little steep at the momentI just think about Cuesta Grade and how to help keep the rig slow as I decent without braking and shifting gears, I know all the possible answers to how to do itJust looking at different options to get the job done

Posted by: rescuediver

I like the way the truck rides with the air bagsWent over RXR tracks and didn't have the abrupt jarring that I have been used to. I think it's also time to start looking at new shocks/suspension

The truck also got a compliment from the shop that worked on it. He (shop owner) has done numerous things to it (ok, all of the aftermarket stuff When my old partner picked it up tonight, the shop owner mentioned how it looked meaning the stained under carriage, banged up bedwife's custom body work, etc. My partner told him this truck is actually used in the real world and not babied anymorethat it actually sees the dirt, mud and sand in the world

Thanks I do have a new job but I am still interviewing for others while workingI don't think I will ever stop this practice now. Most companies don't care about you and you need to be ready if something comes about.

I had a couple of headhunters call me out of the blue also and I passed on the jobs back some time ago. I really wished I would have checked into them more and kept the ties with the recruiter. Hi PSD, In case you havnt heard. My son and I got laid off (fired) 1 week or so ago. Then a couple days later, we got hired by our former boss's, former partner. The new job is so much better than the old one. This is one of the few companies that actualy does care about their employees. Im too busy to post all day, but the day sure goes by fast.

RD, Im going to be at carnegie this Sunday with the 250 Jetmoto quad if you and the girls are interested. Its #2 of 6 in the country right now. Id like to run the quad 6-8 hours straight.

Most of the aftermarket balljoints are good. I prefer Moog if available. Do yourself a favor while doing the brakes and flush out the Hyd. system with new fluid. This is one of the most over looked item and you can benefit the most from, essp. towing all the time.

I seem to be finding Moog almost everywhere I look. I take it get the ones that can be greased? Is this something that I can tackle in the garage? Or is it best to have a mech do it? Also, is there anything else I should replace while I am at it? I know that can be a bad question to askAnd thanks for the tip on the Hyd system

Sorry to hear about getting laid off. I've been there, and it hurts. However, it sounds like you landed on your feet. I think most companies couldn't give a flying $hit about any of thier employees. The owners / share holders are greedy. I should know, Warren Buffet owns my company.

I know I would do it but have replaced them many times for a living. I don't know your abilty but I'm willing to bet you can get 'r doneBR>
Check the wheel bearing before you take it apart and then do a check after you tear it down. Replace the grease seals, sand down and grease the caliper slides, and check all the other bushings while your under there.

I seem to be finding Moog almost everywhere I look. I take it get the ones that can be greased? Is this something that I can tackle in the garage? Or is it best to have a mech do it? Also, is there anything else I should replace while I am at it? I know that can be a bad question to askAnd thanks for the tip on the Hyd systemhr>

LOL! I think I will get r' doneBR>
Sounds like some good advice to follow

Thats my question too. I am not trying to make anyone mad but this is supposed to be about Ford trucks. There are other threads for general topics. If someone was trying to find info on a Ford truck here they would have a hard time. How did this ever get started?

This is a general discussion forum with/about ford truck owners. And a few others too. If you have a question about Ford PSD's (or any other truck for that matter) ask away and youll probubly get a answer pretty quick.

need new ujoints and hubs up front and new ebrake pads in the rear maybe new rotors have to pull em and look as the ebrake drum is inside the rear rotor... reeee.

our horse trailer has the same problem. limited clearance on the bedrails.. it will hit on some transitions into parking lots even. let alone taking it out in the woods.

my personal fave is 8KIN4U (spell it backwards).

Posted by: nedflanders

I had to pull my rear axles with a specialty socket, in order to get at rear rotors. I have the same set up for e-brake as what toyo is describing. I must destroy my ebrake shoes FAST, cuz I always drive away with the ebrake on (for short durations).

as for BJs (that's ball joints), you need a special press to get those out, and to press new ones in. on my quad, I was able to use some large sockets and my bench vise pressing the lowers into the steering knuckle, but i don't think that'd work on the PSD.

check the U-joints aswell, and the front suspension arms (not the steering stabilizer, but the part near it). all that stuff needs replacing on mine, but i got ZERO cash. so i'll just wear my tires goofy for now. Hey, where'd ya buy the ball joints, and what did you pay?? any great internet deals I should know about?? this will be my 3rd set in 75,000 miles, so I'm not real confident in Ford's factory parts. That sounds about right; they're worn out in 25,000 miles.

Posted by: Trasher

It's hard for me to think that a ball joint is worn out in 25K. Just doesn't seem right to me.

Are you greasing them? They must not have zerk fitting to do so. If you do grease them, maybe the grease is not compatable with the factory grease. Not all greases are alike. Try a high quality silicone grease with moly in it like Hydrotex. Sumptins wrong to only get 25K out of 'em

Posted by: nedflanders

no grease zirks. Ford doesn't put them on. It must be these tough Canadian logging roads we ride on! We do ride some bumpy/washboard roads, and I am often carrying very heavy loads with the 3500lb camper + enclosed trailer full of quads. But they should still last longer than that.

I did the factory set at about 25-30K, so that'd #2. The current set has been worn out for quite awhile....come to think of it, I got 50K out of this set. but my front tires are BADLY worn on the outside (? or inside) edges. I went to get an alignment done, and there was just too much to replace before the guy could do it properly.

Posted by: OneFlyCowboy

Ball joints went out in under 50k on the PSD and it now has greasable upper and lowers that get greased weekly. and it hasnt had issues since. now its the fockin Right front hub sticking wich work out the right front ujoint and be it a great ford ideat.. the Hub and Ujoint is a spendy deal.

Why don't you drill, tap, and install zerk fitting. I have done that many times. Just use grease on the drill and tap so very little get into whatever you are installing them into. It will really increase the life and your maintance on the vehicle go down so you can have more time to ride

that would have been a good idea when I FIRST installed the Ford ones. Now I might go after-market, with something that already has the zerks. Moog is a pretty good name, altho it wouldn't surprise me to discover they're getting their parts private-labelled in China.

After dealing with the brakes for too many hoursI decided to have a shop to the ball joints. I don't have a press available to me and didn't feel like running around trying to get a shop to do it for meSo, I contacted the shop that has done work on the PSD, he charged me the same as Ford would of for only the lower ball joints. So, I got new upper and lower ball joints and 4 Bilstien shocks for just over what Ford wantedNow, after that and getting the trailer, I need Trasher's $$$ to go playLOL!

as for BJs (that's ball joints), you need a special press to get those out, and to press new ones in. on my quad, I was able to use some large sockets and my bench vise pressing the lowers into the steering knuckle, but i don't think that'd work on the PSD.

check the U-joints aswell, and the front suspension arms (not the steering stabilizer, but the part near it). all that stuff needs replacing on mine, but i got ZERO cash. so i'll just wear my tires goofy for now. Hey, where'd ya buy the ball joints, and what did you pay?? any great internet deals I should know about?? this will be my 3rd set in 75,000 miles, so I'm not real confident in Ford's factory parts. That sounds about right; they're worn out in 25,000 miles.

Now, after that and getting the trailer, I need Trasher's $$$ to go playLOL!

Trust me on this one- Trasher doesn't have any more $$$$. img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-frown.gif" border="0">Being off work for so long and having to get things done around the house has left me without funds big time. Finally got our trailer and towed it with the PSD back to where we store it, found out 4 inches between the bottom of the trailer and top of the bed rails is not enoughNow I am looking for taller arms for the 5th wheel hitcheither that, or I have to have some custom fabrication done to get 6+inches between the two vehiclesso I don't mess up my bed.

every truck at the ranch has a bent tailgate and worn out diamond plating on the rails from the trailer rubbing.. the new flat bed has a mile of clearance though. with the hay on it in my pictures. Throw a lift on the trailer. or flip the axles to the other side of the springs.

Well there should be some decent OT @ 2x for that Sunday, most likely.

I take it you're not going to make a Hollister appearance this weekend? This will only be my 3rd ride since we rode Miami <fat dude flying over handlebars smiley>.

Xmas for us. We pretty much always get one. It was lean at Xmas last year, but the boss dipped into the credit line I think for ours. About 1/2 the prior year bonus. This year better be a nice bonus. I pretty much did a complete design for one project.

Gotta watch those in CA. CHP might decide that he needs a motor carrier of property permit, commonly known as a CA Number (because they are "CA ######" on trucks.) And thus he should stop at scales. And I don't think MD wants to be stopping at the scales.

Mine is missing one of the rear sway bar arms. Ive never noticed it. But then again ive never had it. I did notice adding a steering stabilizer. Glad to hear you finally got the vehicles fixed. Its tough to look at them everyday.

Oi. Well I tightened up my chain (hopefully not too tight...) Then I was tightening down the carrier bolts. The lower bolt isn't too difficult. But I always have problems with the upper. Then I ended up getting it a little too tight...went to loosen it...there's a reason I hope the chain isn't too tight... stripped the hell out of of the bolt. You can't get real close as you have to use a socket going through the rear sprocket. It slipped off once. Then again. And well... The nut is still ok, but a socket will just spin, even a 6-point, on the bolt. Guess I'll be adding an upper bolt to my order from the dealer (need a new tail light ($15), & headlamp bulbs ($8 ea)).

Though I'm thinking about something else for the head lights. Those Yamahas suck. Especially combined with their crappy switch that can get stuck in Hi an Lo at the same time, putting 2x the rated current through the bulb. I've now gone through 3 bulbs in 1.5 years. Which has damaged the reflectors and inside of the lenses.

I've thought about going with the Trail Techs with the dash & bar clamp. Gets a bit spendy though.

Posted by: Trasher

That's a bummerBR>

Can you take the wheel off and get in there with a impact hammer to help twist it off?

I haven't ever burnt out a bulb yet.

I didn't try the impact wrench yet. But I've used it before. May break out a file and go to work on the head and hope I can get a 16mm on there. But I'm not going to fsck with it until after this weekend.

I don't know what it is with this damn thing. The biggest problem is the switch. I always ride with my lights on and last Halloween weekend I guess I just bumped the switch. The bulbs are crappy. Basically, there's a washer soldered to the bulb page to hold it in the reflector housing. Lots of current + solder = melted solder and the bulb falls into the reflector area. And the damn rear light. First one I got rear ended by another Warrior. Perfect height of bumber and taillight. Second time, I was on a trail with LJ and looked down and the lense was busted. Last one the studs came ouf of the plastic. BR>
Maybe I should see how much MWQ would charge me to CNC a new taillight? I can do the PCB and electronics. Or I could go ghetto and just use a drill press on a billet piece. LOL

WTF.. so if you have a flatbed or lowside box they want you to be a comercial vehicle.. California is the G A Y E S T State in the union about that chit.
