Talk about printing and such. We finished a subdivision and submitted it to the city and contractors. We've got 2 projects waiting on the rain to stop so we can work. One is a winery over in Monterey County that's gotta be running the first of August for the grape crush. Hopefully the season is late. They dinked around for so long figuring out how to downsize the project. Originally I think the start date was in Dec. Now the start date WAS 2 weeks ago. Our 40' trailer is staged over there, but they are waiting for the ground to firm up to actually put it where it is supposed to be. Just sitting on their road right now. The other project is up in Merced. Small medical office building. Considering all the rain and flooding they've had. Site guys needs 3 weeks of no rain before he can resume moving dirt. They were a few days into work when the skies opened up.

That winery is something else. No footings for the slab for the tanks. It's going to be a solid 18" thick pad. It's about 150' square, or so. If my math is correct that's over 1,250 yards of concrete. They have to schedule a batch plant. So when their day comes they HAVE to pour. We're going to have guys laying PVC as fast as they can as soon as the pad area is prepped.

Welcome to the thread

Posted by: Whitewater

Hey guys, I have a PSD question: I just got back from our Easter weekend trip...the tranny idiot light stopped me 6-times (which means it overheated). All I was towing was my 3-ATV's. When I got home, I found a puddle of tranny fluid dripping from the tranny. I checked the fluid several times over the weekend, and it looks okay. I'm at a loss. Could it have overheated and caused a leak? or did the idiot light come on because there may be a problem with the tranny? It drove just fine, but I think I'm ready to trade up.

I question about a PSD- How rare is that

No vehicle should be dripping anything except water from the ac vent tube from condensation forming from the system running. Where was it coming from? It might have been coming from the vent tube as the fluid got hot and puked out the vent and dripped off the side of the case. Check it out and let us know where.

If it's a mess under there, you might want to clean it off with a pressure sprayer and then see where it's coming from for sure. Could be many things (front pump seal, shifter seal, etc) but the light coming on gets me thinking that something is wrong inside the case.

Sounds terminal. You should get a new one. Question is, will wifey buy that reasoning?

In driving around parts of New Mexico, I see a lot of Dodges with the 6 speed/ Cummins match running around. I mean a lotBR>
I have talked to a couple of owners and they love 'emMost were pulling a huge load that I talked to

Posted by: Whitewater

Well fellers, it looks like the torque converter (maybe). I had the codes read today (tranny over-temp). The tranny guy told me that it is prolly the converter...we will see. It's going into the shop tomorrow.

Posted by: Trasher

Did you feel it shift harder or softer when the convertor locks upIt might have been coming apart inside, over heated the fluid (which puked out the vent) and/or burnt the front pump seal. Get the Mastercard out brother

Posted by: Whitewater

It runs great. I haven't noticed any difference in shifting behavior. I've been pricing new converters... They are very expensive ($1,300 bucks)....and that's just for the converter; that doesn't include labor. Wifey and I want to $hit can this truck, and get a newer one, but I'm so hesitant on the 6.0. I think I would prolly buy a 2005 or 2006...that is if I could afford one. Sheesh...I'm not going to spend 45-50K on a truck.

couple of years ago my truck was running good, then I shifted into 2nd, where it remained locked, while pulling a heavy load. I shoulda been in 4L for the speed I was going. I p'eed out fluid aswell. ran fine after. but they told me the damage was done. ended up being a rebuild, and Ford paid for 75% when i was out of warranty on time and mileage.

very ironic you should post this now Hoss. I was just visiting my dad about 200 miles away, and I got my tranny fluid dumped, along with a new filter. this is first fluid change since the rebuild a couple of years ago. I also got coolant changed. I don't like these snake-oil fluid exchange gimmicks. Especially with tranny, I'd like magnet cleaned, and the drip pan cleaned. so Hoss, make sure ya do the maintenance.

I have seen more damage done than helped by fluid exchanges. The little particles get moved about by the force of the fliud going where it might not normally go and then it gets stuck in the valve body and hangs the tranny up. I like dropping the pan and doing it the 'ol fashioned way BR>

ya, always nice to get one in the 80s...but now it's time to retire cuz it just won't get any better! And i had a 9 & 7 in that round!!

my dad got one carpet for free, and one marked WAY down. one went in okay. the other was sorta folded and had kinks and air bubbles. couldn't stretch that one out AT ALL. and neither of these looped berbers would hold on the smooth edge worth a darn. oh well, it's a rental suite, and he's thinking of selling it anyways. looks better than the old stuff, but still kinda tacky overall.

I agree. AND, the PSD has a drain bolt on the torque converter. a tranny shop told me they suck out the lines too, which pretty well gives it a full drain. my cousin was saying something about hooking up the lines that go to the rad, to somewhere else (not the fluid exchange machine), and then running it to get a complete flush.

Just heard a radio ad that states that they don't suck out the fluid, but drop the pan. funny timingBR>

ummm.. how would you change the filter on the PSD if they only gave you a suck job. boy sounds like some of the fluid exhange joints are in cahoots with someone to jack up your tranny

the snake-oil companies claim the fluid exchange cleans out the filter too. problem is; EVERYONE from service writer to mechanic to service manager has a financial incentive to upsell these fluid exhange gimmicks, so how do you really know? the chemical co. pays ALL of them a small amount per customer, but it adds up nicely by the end of the month. they have coolant flush machines, tranny fluid, several engine flushes (one is a valve/injector clean, another is whole engine/bottom end), etc... It so lucrative, the chemical suppliers provide the fluid exchange machines for free (provided dealer buys ONLY their chemicals).

Well, I have a question for you Ford diesel guys. I have always considered myself a Ford man, I have a 1977 F-150 and have owned numerous other Fords. Now I donate a lot of money to different charities such as Focus on the Family, Americian Family Association, Promise Keepers, Salvation Arm, etc. Now Ford is going in public announcing full support to homosexual groups. They are donating money to PRIDE & FLAG (or whatever those letters are...). Now those homosexual groups directly attack the companies I support. Therefore, I find it extreamly hard to support Ford and buy their products. Do you guys think this is out of line? What business does Ford (an automobile company) have supporting G A Y S? I have nothing against those people mind you, I just don't like how they belittle my charity groups.

Now I am out until Thursday, talk to you then!

that queer group isn't a charity tho. i'll bet there are lots of inherent conflicts. like oil companies/auto manufacturers who sponsor charities, yet the same group might denounce use of autos/fossil fuels due to enviroment, etc..

my guess is Ford (and ALL the others) are trying to remain politically correct and keep ALL their potential market shares/groups happy. nobody is gonna wanna be seen as homo-phobic, but they probably don't realize some of the conflicts it creates. Personally, I'd ignore it.

Back a little time ago, Dodge halted production of manual tranny trucks because the new 6sp was having issues. They switched suppliers. Used to be New Venture which was a ChryCo subsidier that was spun off and I *think* the new units are from Getrag.

The latest 4sp autos are supposed to be tough. They basically started building them the way people were rebuilding them.

Go with a Lariet model. I'm not much for leather (esp. here in the Valley). But after a day of riding, it's a nice ride home with the heat on the back.

OUCH!! I can change the oil in my F150 for under $20.00

I bought a horizontal Band saw last friday and ordered the tube bender too. It should be here next wed. The CNC mill is looking better with the rain mellowing out, but nothing is in writing yet. The shop is filling up with Jetmoto's though.

Are you modding them?

C is back! I called my Ford dealer and told them I would look elsewhere for a new car/truck because of this. This information was new to them. I think I will get a Ridgeline for my next truck. Once I win the lottory. hr>

Ridgeline isn't a truck. That's a car with a box on it.

A CXT would be nice, but for $120K I think I'll go with something a little smaller and get the nice toy box. I see the CXT and I think of 3 things: 1) someone with two much money, 2) man with size issues and 3) someone who has to have bigger, better, etc. that his buddies.

Also with the CXT, it's too tall for a 5th wheel. Hell, you could walk under the trailer you'd have to lift it so flipping hi. QuadKaryn's Rage'N is at 12'6" on her GMC and it's not even close to be as high as a CXT is.

Also, make sure you don't buy Little C any Disney movies.

the "Canadian" tour is such a misnomer. Look at the leaderboard and field in general. totally dominated by Americans. Now if they had to putt with hockey sticks like Happy Gilmore...then we'd have a chance!

A solvent tank would be cool too

Today I bought a Clarke bandsawNot the best, for what I'll use it for, it should work just fine Best thing is, no more mess from cutting metalWell at least not like a cutting wheel.

Happy Gilmore is yet another flic that was filmed here. the golf course shots are from a course in Pitt Meadows.

well I splurged today. bought a digital caliper, solar auto-darkening welding helmet and a whole bunch of other stuff. I have a little 70AMP arc welder, and I've NEVER welded before. everyone tells me wire feed is easier. they have a really nice Deca wire feed welder at Princess Auto (same as your Harbour Freight). well, I guess i'll try burning holes in steel tomorrow. img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-blush.gif" border="0">

Arc welders are better for heavy metals but you can't beat the speed of a mig welder. Their great for the thinner metals and lays a lot of weld down quickly

You are so right about laying down a lot of weldsI've welded decent size metal with mine, might have to go a little thick on the beadSo far at the ranch the welds are holding upAnother good thing about an arc welder is the metal doesn't have to be as clean

there ya go being practical and sensible again skinner, SHEESH!

Ya know, I've never seen one live, only in magazines. but what you're saying is exactly what I think when I see a Hummer. The first generations designed for military use were neat, but the rest are for napoleon-pecker complex men. my 10 y/o likes the CXT, but he's into total 4x4 stuff.

And the actual real Hummer's (aka HMMWV or however the hell the gov. calls it) isn't even that great. Does a lot of things decently. But nothing all that great. And unreliable. Considering it's using that masterpiece of automotive engineering: GM 6.2L Diesel you can't expect much.

Oh, and yeah, I'm posting from work. Gotta get this damn project done. At least I've figured out how to really use this new app we dropped $6,500 for. My plan is to work until 4am, go home, shower, eat breakfast and come back at 6. Came in at 2pm, left at 8pm and just got back.

Fresno PD was scraping some little red car off the ground around the corner. NOt sure what happened, but it hit SOMETHING. What that something was, I don't know. I'm thinking brick wall by the shape, but since there isn't one in the middle of the intersection.

You want every weld to be as clean as possible before welding with any welder type

I did this on my own. Though the boss did ask me "if I could" on Friday. I left at 4am, got back at 6 and then left again at 3 for good. Though I didn't accomplish anything after about 10am I was so fried. Basically about 3 days of normal work hours in 25 hrs. This job is so screwed up.

It's an old plant with a new owner and they are at least attempting to fix things. But they've had previous engineers and contractors in there who haven't done what needs to be done. They spent a LOT of money (new 5000 Amp @ 480V main switchboard with 4 distribution sections, 2000A distribution panel, 1100 KVAR capacitor bank, and a 1200A distribution board) and haven't gotten their money worth. The last engineer didn't pay attention and overloaded 2 of the MSB sections. Luckily we caught it and were able to juggle stuff (their compressors, which amounts to probably 2000A (1200HP+) around. The new electricial room with the MSB, 2000A DP, and capicitors is a nightmare. The pipework looks like people playing twister covered in silver paint.

Stuff is labelled wrong. We thought this oven was fed really weird. Turns out the oven is fed from somewhere else. What we thought was feeding the oven feeds something else that we thought was being fed from a different service. Ugh. So more panels! I'm on the ceiling for our software license for the software we bought so I've got to juggle stuff.

I should thwack you across the back of the head. It's "Main Switchboard." It's the big ugly grey (unless it's painted to match the building) where the electrical service comes in. Basically it's a big metal box with copper busses (or copper-clad aluminum, or even Aluminum). Generally it's the point of service.

Actually my job is pretty cool. Just go through bouts of being busier than all hell. Not sure what's on tap after this job. Another big job is just gearing up. Our contract is for $1M, with us doing like 750K of that (the other is subcontract controls.) That job is supposed to be running the first week in August.

Boss just priced up some of the work at it was like $160K, and only a month to do it. He's meeting with the desicion-maker today to go over things. Figure out what we are going to do, and what their maintenance guys are going to do. Some of this stuff they can do.

Now if I can just get this damn program to run reports without locking up. Ugh.

Exactly!! Rather than appreciate it, they expect it. Pisses me off!! My boss wanted me to work 5 10 hr days. I told him 4-11's would have to do.

I refuse to work fridays anymore for this guy. Its just not going to happen.Im getting real tired of saving his @ss and then listening to him take the credit for it. If my boss would actually plan something I might feel obligated to help. As it is, its not happening.

This is the kicker. The boss is planning on having the entire crew work Memorial Weekend (Fri-Mon). One, teeny, tiny, little detail. He hasn't actually said anything to any of the guys yet, except the 2 guys that are working down there. My bro knows, because I've said something to him about it. But nobody else has heard from the boss. One guy absolutely will not work, understandable. The formemen will be guilted into it. Me thinks he's going to run into a problem.

He can't really require them to work it as it will be OT. Personally, I think he should pay the 2xOT for that weekend. Hell, most of the crew will probably be at the 2xOT level (>60hrs) anyways.

I know that I have plans to ride that weekend at Hollister. He will HAVE to pay me OT, not comp time if he wants me down there for any reason. He b!tches too much when you want to take the comp you earned.

Typical!! Id be telling him about my plans for a 5 day mem day weekend today with that info. You know the friday before and the tues after!
When I first moved to Newman I was offered the same pay that I was making in pleasanton to work in Turlock. The catch?? They didnt start their work day until 9:00 am and OT was a 7 day a week requirement. I didnt catch on until i was signing the agreement papers. I told him that for me to agree to that arrangement. My base pay would have to be atleast double what they were offering or forget it.

I had dinner with my boss last night. We were discussing activity levels that are required, training that is required, reporting, order processing time, travel, demo times, corporate meetings, industry meetings, email, etc.
(I have put the pencil to all this and knew how many hours that would be needed to get it all done on time)
I sat there asking him about how long he thought it really took to take care of all these tasks and i was writing all this down in front of him. then I added it all up and he was really shocked that all those hours were needed each week. I told him that is why you get emails from me at 11PM at night because I'M STILL WORKING!!!! BR>
I then asked him if he thought it was fair to that the company (and he) asked any employee to work like that. I then asked him if he knew if those hours would be approved by the labor board or our own HR dept. He had a pretty puzzled look on his face I told him I have a family and a life, both which come first before the company so I suggested he either look at all the tasks that need to be done and either delete some off the list or not put such short time lines on them. I said: better yet, here's the list, put them in the order that you want them done and I'll do my best to get them done starting at the top.He started to change his tune a bit and mellowed out.

Gotta find another job closer to home, maybe work back for myself again......

My supervisor works some seriously long hours sometimes. Usually comes in at 9am (drops his kids off at pvt. school). Sometimes doesn't leave until midnight. But leaves anywhere from 5 (if wifey can't pick up the kids) until about 7. Boss complains when he takes off early for a school function or whatever. Just because (from what I've heard) he wasn't involved in his kids lives growing up, doesn't mean that's the way everyone is.

Those are some foolish hours. He needs to get a life. He could start by being there for his kids before their gone

Well guys I got some bad work news. Coworker was killed in an MC accident in the foothills north of town riding after work.

Was looking forward to playing airsoft this weekend, now it's like whatever. My bro is taking it pretty hard. He liked the guy, but didn't like working him a lot. One coworker went by the office and said the boss was just sitting in his office completely blank.

Sorry Skinner for your loss.

wow skinner, that's a bitter irony. on one hand we're talking about being worked like a dog, not getting quality time/family time, etc...then your co-worker dies. almost wonder if you guys all work that hard/those kinda hours, if somehow the guy might not have been as alert as normal, or just a little fatigued & what role that played in his death?? still a tragedy, and hopefully some good will come from it, like your $$-driven boss realizing there's more to life.

They've only been working 8 hrs (6a-2:30). Job is 30 min south of town. Accident happened at 3:30 according to the news. I don't think fatigue had any play in it. From what else they said, he was "distracted" and went a little off the roadway. Bike was fishtailing when he came back on the road. Not sure what then happened, but he went over the side of the road. LJ would probably be the only one who knows, but it happened on Sky Harbour Rd which overlooks Millertain Lake. My guess is if he was distracted, he was looking at the lake. It can be very beautiful along that drive.

From what I could tell, he was riding his regular harley. Didn't look long enough to be the custom bike. The custom is like 11' long.

I lost 7 pretty close friends due to street bike collisions before they all turned 25. Not one was at fault. Mostly speeding, blowing through red lights, and an illegal that was drunk and then tried to run after killing 2 people.
He ran into a small problem though. The first person to catch him was the bigger brother of the driver that was killed

Prety slow weekend around here it looks like....

Well the airsoft game was kick@ss. It was completely overcast with a little drizzle.

Saw a couple of interesting things on the way over. One, San Luis Resevoir is higher than I've EVER seen it. Probably 5' from the lowest sections of 152. Can't even see high water lines, it's at or above them. Fullest I've ever seen it. O'Neil forebay though, looked low for some reason.

Now here's the sight from the "Oh sh!t that's gotta suck dept." Stopped for a rest and munchie grab at Case de Fruita (LJ, MD and MWQ know this place). So I get back on and am prepared to make the worst left turn known to man (highway 152 to 156 west) and see traffic is backed up to Walnut (the left BEFORE 156.) Hmm...idiots are in the wrong lanes (left turn lane to Walnut) so I slip by a few (now VERY unhappy people...hey, I thought you were turning on Walnut ). Anyways...I'm sitting there, nut much traffic going the other way...WTF is taking so long... So I said fsck this and jumped out and figured 1) got to Gilroy and take 101 south, or hit 25 and come back to 156 (we were staying in Salinas). Well, what do I see when I get to the corner...about an 8 axle low-boy with a huge crane on it, high-centered on the corner. He was a little too low for that left turn.

They got it unstuck as it wasn't there on the trip home last night.

The 8.8" limited slip rear end on my F150 has been chattering worse and worse while turning. Im guessing its the limited slip clutch packs. Im going to get prices today and hopefully get it fixed this weekend. And the Check engine light has been on in my minivan for about 5 months. It doesnt need to be smogged until 8-07 so it can wait until then, or when it quits running.

I'll fix your trucks Diff from San Diego. Go to a shopping mall parking lot and drive in figure 8's for about 10 times around and your problem will be fixed. The clutch plates get dry from just going straight and this allows the oil to get between the plates again to help it from sticking. Try it before taking it in for repair

Ill give that a try Trasher, I figured the clutch plates disintigrated and were causing the friction. The limited slip part does still work though. I will let you know how it works out.

Back in the day when I worked at a Jeep dealership, The jeeps with quadratrack had a big issue with that after doing freeway driving. It would sound like the transfer case chain was ready to toss right through the floorboardsBR>Just take in out and do the figure 8's and hopefully it will be fine. My older Burb had that happen a couple times to me and it worked on that too. Best thing is just to go out and go wheelin for a while. That will fix the vehicle and youimg src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-wink.gif" border="0"> Tossing a little mud fixes everything

If the truck has over 60 or so K miles it wouldn't hurt to change the lube. Have had this problem with limited slips and found the lube and/or additive was getting bad. Way cheaper than a rebuild.

Thanks tencubed The truck has approx 103K on it and the lube was changed approx 40K ago. I will try Trashers idea first and then try changing the lube. When I change the lube Ill pull the cover and look for anything out of the ordinary. Then if necessary, Ill pull the clutch packs and go to work. I do all my own work so I do save on the labor costs, but if I dont have to do it. I save the labor too.

What's the story on your tranny? (and I'm not talking about your resent sex change operation)

Posted by: Duckhntr

I've had two 2001 F-350's with the 7.3 diesel. They are trucks that I owned in my company and neither one did much pulling and hauling on a regular basis. I ended up having to replace the transmission in both trucks. One at 80k miles and one at 140k miles. It was very disappointing. However, I will say that besides the transmissions I never had any significant trouble with either vehicle. I replaced both one with a 2005 F-350 with the 6.0 and a 2004 F-250 with the 6.0. Ford has had some problems with the '03 and '04 6.0 engines. In fact, I just traded the 2004 F-250 on an '06 F-250 because Ford was offering big rebates to owners of '03 and '04 6.0's due to the trouble they were having. I didn't have any trouble with the '04 and had about 50k on it when I traded. The rebates were just too good to pass up. As stated by someone else, the main difference between 7.3 and the 6.0 trucks is in the transmission. The 6.0 are way smoother than the older trannys. From my experience the only concern I would have with purchasing an older 7.3 would be the transmission. The engine is a work horse.

I don't think the HD tranny prior to the TorqueShift was Ford's strong point. Our '94 F-450 with a 460 is on #3. First 2 went right at about 60K. But then again, "abused" would probably be a good descriptor. Usually when that truck leaves the shop it's either hauling something out, or going to bring stuff back.

Ran a light load of pipe up to Merced. Such a waste. 120' of 5" PVC 60+ miles. OUCH. Gas bill was $80+, but one of the tanks was down 1/2, so that's like 3/4 of a single tank.

On that note anyone ever get inspected? I got waived over at the Chowchilla River Station (MD, LJ and maybe MWQ knows it) for a looksee. Everything was ok and I was back on my way. Truck was weighed at a little over 7300lb. Considering she's 15K GVWR...very light load.

won't get a big argument from me on that one. start to finish, every song rocks. it still picks up a flat party, young and old. even the kids today like it (well, the smart ones). amazing thing is how they did it with new singer (their bus driver), on his first album, just after the lead guitarist's brother (and former lead singer) had died! only in rock and roll!

Wasn't DQ supposed to finish this semester? Or is that next semester. Time's been flying and I can't keep track of stuff anymore. The days just morph from one to the next.

Oh and why we all b!tch and moan about fuel costs: $5.10 for AvGas. Burned about $200 yesterday (12.5-13 G/Hr x2)x2) (that's 2 engeines and 2 hrs of flight time.) Though coming back it was at about 14GPH. Of course that's pretty efficient for 240 MPH. Figure about 10MPG.

Here's a good little game. It's called guess how much:

1994 Ford F-450 "Emergency Brake Drive Line"

If you guessed $1600 for the part and $1900 OTD est. you're right. BR>
Yeah, so EXACTLY wtf is this part? (I went to set the brake Monday and the e-brake pedal went to the floor with no application.)

Maybe the boss will trade up to a 650... LOL

No that guy was a weak troll.

Troll is someone trying to start some crap. Like a Honda guy going into a Yamaha forum and saying the YFZ blows goats.

Maybe the guy was stating his honest opinion, but it was rather trollish. Though I have heard the new 6.0 has the ability to cranked up higher than the old 7.3. I'll guess we'll all know at some point how far, and for how long it can be taken.

Hard to say. Ya never know until the engines are out there for a while.

I believe they are going to replace the 6.0 with a 6.4 or 6.6 Twin Turbo (series plumbed) here shortly. So the sales lifetime will be short ('03-'06 or '07) for the 6.0.

I don't think any of the newer oil burners are bad engines. You will have issues with them all and have great experences with all. Most all vehicles will have little issues that are commom to that vehicle. The engines aren't turds like the early GM's were. I believe those days are over.........

The manuf. can't afford another "turd" engine.

I had people dog my Daewoo I had. Calling it junk, garbage, etc. I guess because they came from Korea. In the 4 years I had her (granted, only 28K miles) the only problem I ever had that I would call a defect was the a/c control panel. There was one recall for the brakes. Just regular maintenance and she did great. Would have liked better mileage, but hey, wouldn't we all? (They won a J.D. Power award for initial quality for '01, IIRC.)

Posted by: BlackandRedWarrior

Today has been one of those days.

Cell phone rings on way to work, it's office...hey, it's only 5 after 8, they usually don't call this early. Seems people are having issues with MS Outlook. Hmm. Not good. But they were able to log on to their computers, so it's not the server. I get to work, start looking around. Check the server. Weird. Log files are gone. Hmmm. A bunch of the data files...gone. Or giving me Input/Output errors. THis is NOT looking good. Dive deeper...drive went south. Well, vacation cause it started working later...after 3 hrs. UGH. (FOund a replacement unit for $180! OUCH.

Then on the way out the door to pick up replacement boss calls me about some file. Check it out...ok... Get it into MS Word and next thing we know MS Word decides it's taking a vacation and not working. Blech. I know what my weekend, or at least next week will be doing...

I just want to go home! lol

my cousin had a 95 PSD, and had some issues with tranny. he sold it before 40k. recently, he bought an older GM diesel (pre-Duramax). I THINK it's either a 6.2, or 6.9. He loves this thing, and stock condition, he says this one has ALMOST as much power as that PSD. His PSD was a 1T crewcab, SRA. His GM is ext cab, DRW.

Ford's pre-PSD was also a 7.3, but indirect injection. I've talked to several people that had cavatation problems with those. cylinder walls would pit and then cavatation. this would be before they EVER hit 150K.

like skinner says, time will tell.

skinner those computer problems sound like a royal PIA. this isn't a virus or worm I hope?? hope ya got everything backed up real good.

Nah, it's not that. I think the drive was just going south. Had that happen on another drive (same size, model, etc. in this same server a couple years ago) then it died a few months later. So that's why I'm replacing it now. She's out of warrantee as of Feb. of this year. I've pretty much sold the boss on going to a RAID system. We get 2 things out of it. First, we get reduncy in case another drive goes south. Second, we'll expand our storage massively. Currently we have 2 18GB drives for storage. There's a 9GB drive in there for the system. With the RAID system I'll be up to 500GB of storage (that's almost 14 times the space.) Which is good, since we're at about 16 GB on the existing drives with around 1.2GB free. BR>
It was sad to bring that server down. She was up for 411 days!

It will also give me the chance to completely reinstall the system. The software on there is about 4 years old. Been a TON of advancements since then. As this server is just doing file storage I'm not even touching the processor. Usage is maybe 2% of a 800MHz P3. RAM is 256MB with about 30 MB actually needing to be used by the system. So there's plenty of breathing room there. RAID is going to cost about $850-900 with the 4 drives. Next up after that I'm sure will be a new tape backup. We can get most, if not all of the current data backed up on DDS-4 which is 20GB. We're getting about 75% compressed size so that's a little less than 30GB.

On what happened to his Word install, no clue. Probably have to reinstall that.
