Pismo was greatReally couldn't of ask for better weatherThe party level (other campers wasn't as bad as it has been in the pastGreat time was had by all.

Spacers worked greatPut the paddles tires off my Z400 on it, and man did it change the attitude of the 160It was making it up majority of the hillsThink I need to find a smaller front sprocket for more low end torque.

That's great the shop is coming alongI'll need to come out there and check out the spread and maybe drop off that tank of yours.

Imagine a plane is sat on the beginning of a massive conveyor belt/travelator type arrangement, as wide and as long as a runway, and intends to take off. The conveyer belt is designed to exactly match the speed of the wheels at any given time, moving in the opposite direction of rotation.
There is no wind.
Can the plane take off?

No

And why would a plane, that is designed to take you placesbe sitting on a conveyor belt/travelatorMust be a ride for people with to much time and money on their hands

Wheels have nothing to do with what the plane is doing.
Its assumed that even though "there is no wind" the plane is still going to procede with t/o as normal. The wheels could be spinning at 2480753847384mph but as long as there is thrust the plane will move forward. And will eventually overpower the conveyor.

Discuss.

If the plane is sitting on a coveyor belt that can rotate as fast as the wheels on the plane will turn, then how would the plane fly? Forward motion would be restricted due to the wheel spin being matched by the conveyor belt.

Read! Here!
I knew it would work from the minute i read the question.
Now, we just need someone like "Mythbusters" to do an episode on this. It would be GREAT! Infact, there is also a BIG thread on their site as well. Ill see if i can dig up a link.

Read this... here!

Posted by: rescuediver

I tried reading all of it, but to much cussing and other garbage between the good postsI still do not agree that the plane will take off just by thrust without forward motion (and that motion is being removed by the belt rotating at the same speed as the planes wheels)

Posted by: rescuediver

Maybe we need to take a page out of the movie Top Gunuse an model airplane and a piece of rubber, as the airplane excellerates in you mind, move the rubber piece to match it's speed, if all forward momentum is obsolete, how does the plane fly? Unless of course, the belt and the planes wheels are attached and the forward thrust of the plane drags the belt with it

Hey HossYou must be getting the storm that just blew through us

Posted by: BlackandRedWarrior

Before I wasn't sure if the plane would, or wouldn't take off. But one of the explanations explained it better. The plane is applying thrust to the air, not the ground. It's moving relative to the air. The conveyour would only work against things if a vehicle has thrust applied via the wheel (i.e. car.) A plane works purely on airspeed, not ground speed.

A plane (a small light plane like a Cesna whatever they are...the really common one with the high wing) with a light weight and large wing can actually go airborn with zero ground speed in a high wind. That's why they tether them down at airports.

Is head bopping relative to the speed of the caror does the car need to be sitting still for the head to bop?????

Actually you are a little backwards. If the car is in motion, the rate of head bopping influences the speed of the car, rather than the speed of the car influencing the rate of bopping. As the bpm (bopping per minute) increases, the vehicle has a nomally linear reaction in speed.

Now, the condition of the road surface may affect the amplitute of the head bopping. This could either enhance the head bopping or detract from it.

Note: Head bopping in a moving vehicle is extremely dangerous and possibly illegal.

I agree 100%. Bottom line is they are a public entity and must account for everything they purchased. Even if it means they have to throw it away after getting it back. I know of one person who had to buy brand new stuff to turn inafter retiring with almost 30 years on the force. Another sad part is, they have gotten away from issuing leather gear, more into the plastic stuff, so they won't reissue this stuff back out to the field.

If i were to get ANY of the Ipods id get the video one. I saw one in use and it looked pretty friggen cool. But, ive got my XM MyFi which is portable and records up to 7 hours of music so i have no use for an mp3 player. Though, its not for everyone. That, and i dont wanna pay for iTunes.. BR>
Oh, and i did some christmas shopping for the jeep. New control arms top and bottom in the front. The lowers are BEEFY!! And the uppers are adjustable so i can set my own caster and pinion angle.. Looks like ill be doing a "home alignment", it may sound complicated but its REALLY easy. haha

Only problem with the new iPOD that does video is the screen is supposed to be VERY soft, as it scratches when you sneeze on it. My brother has an iPOD. The mini, or whatever it is. The first small one they came out with. The control is really weird at first. Bought it for like $150 off our office manager whose fiance got it at some real estate conference.

You can rip from a CD you own. But iTunes is like $1 a song, and about 1/2 the bands/groups/singers my bro likes aren't avaialble on iTunes.

My wife and two older boys have the 20gb ipods. Santa is going to bring my daughter one this year also.

Posted by: rescuediver

Best Buy was the only store in town that I foundthat had any iPODs leftIt was the 30gb one which holds 7,500 songs, 5,000 photos and 75 hours of video. To protect the screen, I bought the protective skin to cover it. Seeing it's for my oldest, she will use all three of the functions

hey diddley-do neighbors.

*DEEP sigh*.... Rev. Lovejoy has insisted that I confess to the FBK congregation. you see, I've disconnected my old email address and tried to set up a new ID, but this site only recognizes me as flanders, which was just my alter-ego from work. And it won't give me my password for my real identity because it keeps defaulting to this email address.I believe I'll be getting a new email address soon, and hopefully i can finally get my rightful moniker; CANUCKLEHEAD!!

some of you already know this anyways (only cuz i told you), but I am secretly dressed in someone else's clothing. opposite gender of course. that's enuf clues, you should already know. at least it's not beastiality like hoss.

so we finally moved. we're living out of boxes stacked to the ceiling in my dream garage. we had 3 things happening at once: we moved into the 2nd home on our property, but the renter in the main house gave us 2 weeks notice to move after we moved in. so we had to move all our stuff into 2nd house, then 2 weeks later we moved into main house. THEN, had lotsa work to do to get 2nd house cleaned up and ready to rent. wife painted 3 rooms, i replaced h/w tank, put in shut-offs for ALL the plumbing (none of which were there before), fixed gutter leak and 2 water ingression problems. THEN, I had to be out of my office by Nov. 30, so it was a mad scramble to prepare for that move. THEN, i had to make an office in the main house, where there was none before. had to remove a wall, wood-burning f/p, put in laminate floor, painted, new trim & mouldings, baseboards, etc. THEN, empty office which had been stored in my cargo trailer, and move it into new spot.

as of yesterday I had office going, and here I am spending time on a chat room when i should be working! well, laziness always pays off now, whereas hard work often takes years to enjoy.

NO WAY i'm gonna even attemt to pick up where i left off. hope all has been well with you good folks. hey creator, none of my emoticons are working either!

moving is ok, but when you hafta do it 3 times in a month.. YUCK! now we get to unpack. we have enuf christmas decorations to furnish a second home, and wife is quite po'ed she won't have a chance to put them out this year.

i thot about you guys today cuz i went to buy a used quad today, advertised as a 2004 Kawi Bayou 250 for $1500. I ask for the VIN and it starts with LDK.... (I'm thinkin that ain't japanese). so i go look. the VIN label says sompin about Changzhou Kinder. I research & the letters mean made in China. It's an '02, not an '04. seller says it only needs a starter clutch. well, it's missing the rear brake foot lever, kickstarter is also missing. oil has leaked out cuz he mangled the clutch cover gasket trying to fix the starter clutch. it's a funny red color, and has fairly new paint (i'm sure that's coming off with the first wash). NO labels anywhere, & I can't find a frame VIN stamped anywhere. & the guy is pushing the hard sell. no Kawi labels on the body or tank. wierd thing is that the engine had Kawasaki stamped on both sides. anyways, i turned and ran. colossal waste of time.

I bought a Honda 250EX off ebay. it's some outfit that repos them (near as i could tell). over 2 months later and i'm still waiting for the Owner's manual they promised me. man these guys are slow. they sell stuff that seems pretty rough, no wonder it sells cheap on ebay. but i like this quad for Jr.

Glad to see that Chocolate Charlie is back. Sounds like you have had quite the month or two.

Moving really sucks! I'm still working on my house. We have remodeled/redecorated most of the house (tile, paint, crown/chair rail/baseboards, remodeled a bathroom, tore down acres of wallpaper, venitian plastered walls, etc.

We also had a moisture problem that took 11k to fix. Oh, we are also adopting a baby. He should be poppin' out any day now. So things have been busy for us as well.

And Ned, I laughed my butt off with the laziness comment!

IPODS: Santa is bringing video ipods for two of my kiddies (30 gb). I found mine at Wal Mart. They look pretty cool. I just hope they like them. Now what do I buy for wifey?????? Would I be in trouble if I bought her a treadmill? That's like saying "here honey...I bought you a fat a$$ remover."

YIKES!! it only took 3 seconds to cook in the nookalur (as your Prez says it) reactor.

you better buy sompin REAL nice after she got ya that 700EFI Sportsman last year. how's about a kidless weekend away somewhere. wait a sec.... you fool... you got ANOTHER infant on the way??

okay, I'll tread where others fear on this one. you already have 3 homemade ones, so apparently you know the recipe and have the necessary swim team to reproduce. i'm sure you thoroughly enjoyed the baby making process. so why don't you go thru the homemade process again, instead of adoption? did you have the funding cut off to your swim team?

Hoss, 11K for a water problem on a new home!!OUCH!! i guess the renos are the price YOU hafta pay for moving wife to the hick-town where you grew up. you must have the nicest mansion in town now.

i stole the laziness comment from one of those motivational posters. this one said something like :"Procrastination: While the fruits of your hard labor may take years to pay off, laziness pays off NOW."

Yeah, we call it the "Microwave."BR>
Maybe I'll give wifey a "pearl necklace." DQ said that would be a big hit.

Yeah, I'm shootin' blanks. My sister-in-law is a looser baby making machine. She's had all of her kids yanked by the State, so we thought we'd save her the wait (long story).

Oh, the water problem was paid for by the previous owner (I threatened to bloody his nose / sue him). He didn't disclose the problem, and the inspector didn't catch it.

funny, TODAY i got an email of Randy Spears giving some porn-queen a pearl necklace. PM me with your email and I'll send it to ya. i don't know if you get the video clips to the other hotmail address I have for ya.

assuming the in-law is your wife's sister, sounds like you got the best gal in the whole trailer park! img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-happy.gif" border="0">

so if ya already got 3 ankle-biters, i can only assume all that roid-ragin has caused more than just brain damage to ya. i guess the sack shrivelled up too. (heh-heh-heh, I sure hope we never hafta meet in person so you can take me to task on all these bombs i launch your way !!) just remember, it's ALWAYS open season on me too.

when we moved outta our home, i noticed some water staining on the bottom of a cabinet as i was taking it to the moving truck. It had been in a basement corner, on carpet. small area of carpet got a little damp too, during heavy rain. I immediately told the new owner (he's into that Ultimate Fighting stuff, took training for it).His home inspector never picked up on it either (hec, I never knew). I offered to help him dig up the one corner and replace the OLD concrete drain tiles that would be plugged solid. (I'd dug up the other corner the summer before, so i knew exactly what to do, and that it'd take a half day). the new owner did it himself, and was glad I told him. he's a really nice young feller, and i still BS with him. I guess that's how we do things up here in the Great White North, instead of suing and threatening a hitman.img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-tongue.gif" border="0"> okay, we still sue like crazy, but we worked this one out with honesty and a handshake.

yep, i ran away for once, instead of chiseling the guy and trying to fix it up. had enuf of that with the LT80 lemon i bought for the kids.

the Honda never advertised repo at all. i figured it out on my own, with my keen investigative sense. the title said the folks I bought it from, had got it from AHFC, which I assumed to be American Household Finance Co. There were some papers under the seat for a female owner from Minn. I bought it from a co. in Missouri. Anyways, it's had limited use. Even if it was hard use, i've watched my wife's cousins roll hondas down mountains doing endos, and they just zap-strap patch the plastic, and away they go.

i bought a NEW diesel since we last left off!! this one is a turbo-diesel. 1989 Volks Jetta!! yep, old with about 200,000 MILES (320,000K). but it's MINT. every service record since new.no rust. no accidents. PLAIN with crank windows, not even tilt steering, and NO air-con. i thot i paid WAY too much (about 5K US ). THEN, i saw a '92 for sale today, lower mileage, asking 4100, then dropped the price to 3300 (US) as i was leaving . What a POS. needed tons of work. man, you really get what you pay for, and condition means everything. i feel way better about what i paid now.

my PSD got 11 mpg last fill. it generally doesn't get much better than that. this thing gets 42 MPG (US gallon!!).

our diesel is about $3.18/gal. Gasoline is $2.54. these are the cheapest prices around. it 's more in the city cuz they add a regional transit levy (goes to pay for rapid transit, i.e buses).

I've heard a lot of good things of the Jettas, esp. the mileage. Would be nice for little road trips.

#2 is about 2.70 here at a decent station. Depending on where go one website is listing a place for $2.119 at a Shell. Hmmmm. A major truckstop in Fresno is 2.29.

87 is running under 2.20 now. As low as 2.159 at the Costco. Anyone just waiting for that sub-$2.00 price like it's some miracle bargain? LOL. I am! Maybe then I can afford to hit Miami.

now that i've moved east to the Valley, trips are longer. after 2-$150 fills on the PSD, i knew i didn't like it. the VW diesel is interesting. the years 86-92 are best for simplicity and performance. 93-98 had an engineering flaw. there's a keyway/slot on the crank where a timing pulley lines up. there's no woodruff key, but the pulley has a key-like alignment cast into it. the problem is they wear against each other from the torque. the pully is easy to replace, but the crank is major. they do have a fix for it (new crank & pulley). some people just use JB weld and sell vehicle, then it wears out later. '89 is apparently very popular cuz it's one of the last Cdn model years that can be imported to the US.

Supposedly supply and demand. With the winter ahead distillate production has moved more fuel to home heating fuel, rather than #2 diesel.

i recently tore my buddy a new a$$hole, cuz i thot he'd posted that he'd sold his quad seat to someone. turned out to be a rack mounted storage box, but NOT a seat. so my wife goes and spends a buncha $$ on a quad seat for me. THEN, buddy emails me this week, selling his seat for cheap. HAHAHA! I'm quite happy cuz i'd rather save the $$, but i guess the element of surprise is gone.

wife has spent her normal excess this year. now it's just up to me to get her something. I'm thinkin a Ham & my Organ (or is that Hammond organ??!!.

You looking to adopt? LOL. j/k Just camping gear, couple of computer books and "Dust to Glory". Usually it goes like this. Mom asks for a list. Give mom list. Mom looses list. Give new/another copy of list. Rinse, repeat. Then she usually gets us something NOT on the list as a suprise. Been that way for years. Last year she floored me when she got me a gear bag. (She hates quads, MC, etc.)

Shopping...hahaha. Depends. Maybe on the 23rd or 24th if the boss comes through with a bonus. Doesn't look good though.

Not anything out of the ordinary. We actually only had like one theft in the beginning. Usually we lose probably 2-3K a year in tools, from job sites. Now if the damn things would stop growing legs and walking out of the shop unescorted. Looks like the wire stopped growing legs... Parts loss (aka shrinkage in retail) is also way down as well I think. The main culprits of that have all left the company.

Been real slow in the field recently. So the cash flow is also probably on the light side.

Skiing was great. They recieved a few inches the night before so there was some fresh powder. But by the end of the day it started to get a lil icy. Still need to get another good storm so they can open ALL the runs. As they only had 3 of the 7 lifts open.
Made for some interesting times on these short skies. haha
These things rock though, i can carve a turn like theres no tomorow. More like rollerblades than skiing.

Nope. Didn't you hear. Bankruptcy is for corporations only now.

Watched Boston Legal last night. Was an interesting dig at the CC companies. They make a lot of political statements in that show. Definately a "left leaning" writing group.
