in Vancouver, we gotta go about an hour to get in some decent riding. some is a few minutes closer, and some is a little further.

LJ and I did a 65 mile last year. All forest road. We've done 35 mile ride 3x so far. Did a couple 40 mile days this past weekend.
Gas prices and finances being the way they are, I'm probably sitting at home 'til Halloween for a club ride at Hollister. Hopefully it rains so we can have a little fun with Karyn. LOL

MD, on my towing mileage, not sure, but I went back and figured out. When I towed that 5K load, I was probably about 15 or so I think. I got like 17MPG that tank. About 1/2+ was up there, with half that being really heavy. Job site is like 78 miles one way. Then had a run to Kettleman. So hmm...maybe it gets sub 15. 4.6 with 3.55s is NOT a towing machine. Had a guy ask me last night what kind of mileage I get. His wife drives a 4x4 Tahoe and the gas prices are killing them.
Only traffic jam I get into now is at the school. Mom's need to put down the Starbucks and cell phone and think about driving with both handsI love hearing the traffic report on the highway and knowing I am now, not stuck in itBR>Ahh I think fall is comingOnly suppose to get to upper 70's low 80'sDropping into the low 60s at nightNo need to use a/c anymoreMeans more $$$ for quadding
I don't think that's bad mileage with a load like that. My mileage stunk pulling our camping trailer, used a 1/4 tank going over the SierrasFuel prices have gone down about .02 cents woo hoo

I think that if you have to go into work to work, you work less than if you can/do work at home. I used to have a mobile business before and I would be out there all the time when it was parked at home. I started parking it off site just so I would "leave work". My family also liked that tooBR>
Working at home does have it benefits like doing things during the day that you can't if your stuck in a office.

The old Sonoma I drove always passes by one PPM on the HCs. Last 2 times. And we've since had a new cat put in. Makes you go hmmmmm. Smog tech (test only station) said it must have still been in the process of lighting off. Still funny...
Need to get some property and register your vehicles in Imperial County. And there's a couple up north...no smog checks. At least from what I read a while ago. Think it was on DMV's site.

DQ, a friend of mine just bought a bansheeHe is looking to buy paddles for it. I believe it is pretty much stock, other then the trinity pipes. What size paddles would you suggest? Only mod he is talking about doing is going to a smaller front sprocket. I think it would be used more for just screaming around the dunes at Pismo. Not so much drag racing.

Deffinatly, I love drivin it with just the safari and no doors!

As for the paddles, if this is just going to be a dune ride then I would go with a V-shape paddle. I had the Sand Skate II's on my stock banshee and they seemed to work pretty good. I think they are on the heavier side, but not all of us are worried about our weight If price isnt a factor, then I would definately check out the Stak Trak Edge's, I wouldnt get anything more than an 8 paddle on an 8-10" rim.

Kudos for actually admitting you have ass hair.....let alone long ass hair. Ok to use Nair there? (A buddy found out what happens when you use Nair in other places.
I'll leave the whole dad helping you take off the top thing alone...gotta leave something for Hoss.
skinner, that was funny!LMAO. as for the Nair, we used Neet on my friends berries on his stag. i think that was before he got tarred and feathered. and at the end of the night, this crazy Newfie had drank all of his tormentors under the table. lucky for them he was too drunk to get revenge.

Thanks DQI wasn't sure if going to an extra paddle or two would help. Figured with it being stock, it would only hinder the power.

They'd think of somethingLike leaving ribber marks on the pretty color sandstoneor eroding the sandstone away with the spinning of tiresThey might even put an "endangered" plant growing out of a crack in the stone. Nothing surprises me anymore.

OK, so ive gotten the wheelie thing down pretty good on the Z. But whoever came up with teh idea of keeping your foot on the rear brake and actually being able to use it is an idiot. Its dang near impossible. ahaha
I did put the Z on the grab bar once today. So i got through that barrier, now i just gotta get the ballance piont nailed down...

LOL... good job! I dont wheelie unless its not on purpose (which seems to happen a lot now) I usually dont use the brake...I just let off the gas.

No, his name is Jauquine. We dont have to pass the Dyno test here yet. The K&N was bought during the 18 mos that it was CARB approved and no one has ever said anything about the glass pack. The Jacobs Ignition is also CARB approved. And I did have to have my throttle body cleaned to get it to pass this year.

Good Morning! Well, the weekend was a blast! We rode 65-70 miles on Saturday. Oh, and the best part was...drum roll please...I didn't see anyone! We were the only people on the trail. However, the road was washed out and I got the man truck stuck, before we unloaded.
Confused, you asked where the trail was: If you go back and look at the link I posted, there is a picture of mountain bike handle bars...see the trail in front of it? Well, that's what a lot of the trail looked like. It was very challenging in certain area's. It's diverse; sand, rocks, river beds, slick rock, ledges, etc. The big thing to protect is microbiotic soil, and preventing increased erosion. We saw 4 or 5 huge arches along the way, with hundreds of buttes and mesa's. Luckily, I can see the tops of these formations from my house. There are also, pictograph's, old cowboy signatures, and old spanish rock cairns and writings (the spanairds came through the area in the mid 1700's).
Road trip to UTAH!

Man that ridin looks unreal. I love that type of terrain, esp the rocksIf you look closely to the pics, I can make out some of the trail.
So, what's the deal? You ride to one end and then come back the same way. Is there riding area in the middle of certain sections?

CARB (and by extension the smog techs) don't care about anything past the Cats. Nothing past that point will change the emissions anyways. Hell, you could hack off your exhaust after the Cat and it could still hypothetically pass smog. Only the "Boys in Blue" (or beige, etc.) care.

It was a loop. There are several different "legal" ways through the San Rafael Swell. There are also several "illegal" ways through the swell, too. Of course, "I" would never take "those" trails. Unfortunately, I'm sure there are a few that do.
Oh, and I prefer the small buttes the best.

well, sounds like no one went over the cliff. those ledges gotta make you a little puckered when yer staring down several thousand feet of a drop. i don't know if i'd pee my pants first, or cry like a little girl (or both simultaneously). i don't mind the tech or challenges; i don't like the death defying situations where a mistake is potentially fatal.

Hey OFC
We can move to the foothills about 50 miles east of us and we'd be alright tooEven go the cheap route and just get a p.o. box if you really wanted to. The key though, is to do it before your vehicle doesn't pass smogotherwise, it gets flagged by the system and is marked a gross polluter. IIRC

Reminds me of the '79 LTD we had w/302 CID. The last time I took her in for a smog check she popped about 2500 PPM on the HC. LOL. Became acquainted at that time about the whole "Gross Polluter" thing. The motor finally gave up the ghost w/130K or so and 1 oil change in umm lets see...8 years? She ran great up until that dreadful morning. Stupid thing only had a Speedo and a gas gauge. Everything else was the "Check Engine" light. Check WHAT? Idiots! Her last mile was bad. Go peddle didn't do much. Then finally THUD <big cloud of smoke from hood>. My guess is the oil pump let go.

It actualy didnt pass the first 2 times. It was just a little high on HC's, 120 was allowed and it checked 138 each time. Since it never hit gross polluter status, its still cool. At least thats what Jauqine tells me.
Posted by: Trasher
I used to own a automotive garage for about 6 yrs with a smog station & license. The very best thing you can do to about every vehicle before having it tested is to run it down the road hard for a while and get the cat good and hot. Then, slam it on the machine and test it. It really helps. We would get someone in a vehicle like a Nissan Pathfinder fer example. Those would never pass the first time. So I would tell them to drive the heck out of it and I would test it right afterwards. Worked everytime

Oil line to the turbo?

well, we had an offer we accepted on our house last week. subjects were supposed to come off today. we got royaly yanked around and the thing collapsed tonight (we think). thank goodness we had a back up offer for more. now we just gotta wait for those subjects to clear by this sunday. sure do hope this one goes thru. i got a better feeling about this one tho. i'll explain more when the dust settles.
Posted by: powerstroke01
Ok i just found this posted on another site. And it appears its one of hte following. So it is something that banks did.
Quote
Check the top of the engine, in the valley and you will find oil or fuel.
You have a leak from one of the following;
1. Loose intercooler boots.
2. Pedestal "O" rings are bad.
3. EBPV actuator arm "O" ring is bad.
4. Bad "O" rings where the lines connect to the HPOP.
5. Oil galley plug(s) loose and/or bad "O" ring.
6. Fuel regulator "O" ring(s) are bad.
There is a passage at the top of the valley that allows oil or fuel to run down the top and side of the tranny and leak out the inspection cover between the oil pan and tranny.
Clean the valley and check where your leak is originating.

I don't see how they got the turbo in/out w/o taking the motor out. That's freaking TIGHT. I guess if you do them everyday, all day, you probably learn some tricks.

Confused, hopefully this one works for you. Had a neighbor who had a house, car, etc. waiting for him OK City, OK and he kept having offers fall through on his house here. Finally someone bought it for a rental. His wife had already moved with the youngster back to OKC. He paid less in OKC for a nicer house on like 40 acres w/ a 40 acre option on the adjacent property than what he did for his house here.

thanks skinner, hope yer right. we do have the luxury of a better back up offer, and another guy who now wants to put in a back up offer on that one. and a 3rd guy who's anxious for everything to fall apart so he can buy it (but doesn't wanna step up and make an offer now).

I don't see how they got the turbo in/out w/o taking the motor out. That's freaking TIGHT. I guess if you do them everyday, all day, you probably learn some tricks.
ford allows a whack of time to re & re a turbo. my diesel mechanic buddy (who passed away last year), could do it in about 1/2 an hour. maybe that was EACH way...whatever it was, he made great $$ off that job on the flat-rate system.

It really helps. We would get someone in a vehicle like a Nissan Pathfinder fer example. Those would never pass the first time. So I would tell them to drive the heck out of it and I would test it right afterwards. Worked everytimehr>
This is one of my tricks too. It worked for the '96 chevy lumina w/222K on the odo and the '91 626 w/192K on the odo but the '88 ford w/101K on the odo didnt go for it. Whats amazing to me is the chevy and the mazda are stock and the ford has aftermarket ignition, headers, K&N, free flow exhaust and it struggled for the first time since I got it in '93.

There are tricks to every job out there. I won a $50.00 bet years ago from my service manager. I bet him I could have the injection pump pulled out and stripped down in 10 minutes, coming out of a Buick 350 oil burner. He bit and I did it a a little over 9 minutes

Sounds like he wants to see why they are falling throughand maybe give you a low ball offer
There's a house down the street from us. The guy (a doctor) has it priced rediculously high. He had one offer on itthat fell through because the house didn't appraise high enough and the prospective buyers didn't have any money down.

Sounds like when $$$ is a motivating factorMechanics can accomplish great feats in a small amount of time. I don't mind paying to get the job done. But, if it can be done in less then an hour or two, why does it take 2-3 days to get something fixed

EXACTLY what he wants to do. he has to offer what we have now or better, but if he waits, MAYBE he'll lowball us and we'll accept out of desperation (NOT!!). the risk of being like that is; you're not the next in line if original offer falls thru. so then you lose again. if you actually want the house, step up and make an offer, even if it's back-up.
