I get the "clunk" when I take off from a stop. And that's itI know what the yoke is, why did you decide to replace that?
it was my second pinion seal. upon closer inspection, there was a small burr/groove on yoke, which was causing the leak. we coulda put a speedy sleeve over it, or replace it. with pa being a Ford parts manager, replacement was within dollars of the sleeve.

Just send the wife to work a couple more shifts
Actually we've been looking since she rode mineWe were on our way to S.F. yesterday and my buddy (who I've had look and posted for z400 in the past) called me and told me this one was in the paper. I finally left the guy a message around 2 pm. He called around 6 pm and said he was at workand had a guy coming at 10am today to look at it. I basically told him, if he want to sell it, I'd go see it when he got off of workSo, at 2am. I go to the next county to look at itimg src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-shocked.gif" border="0"> It looks decent and the price was right. So, I gave him a deposit and came back with cash this amWife is happy she has her Z400She's happyI am HappyBuddy is enviousHe paid $2000 more for his, then I paid for my 2 and he almost went to Mexico to get hisimg src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-shocked.gif" border="0"> I would beat, only 4-5 Z400s have been in the paper up here in the last year or so. All were asking almost what a new quad costother then the two I boughtRight place, right time
We will probably sell the Polaris. I just can't see having 7 quadseven though an extraa one would be nice seeing people go with us to Pismo that don't have one. But, then, I run into a problem of getting all the quads thereAnd with the new houseNeed to put a little $$$ back into savings

the other thing MD is ALL that maintenance for 7 (?) quads, AND, if someone don't have their own ride, there's good reason. let them get their own, instead of freeloading your ride and trashing it. Are they there to help you fix and maintain them? HEC NO!! I wouldn't be that charitable.

I guess, when we got started 8 years ago as a family, friends let us use their quads and I am just returning the favor. But, we did bring our own gas and equipmentAnd "IF" something did go wrongI was there to pay for whatever it was and help fix it

You should get a bikini top, then you wont be totally topless BR>
BR>And if you ever need to know:
Since i was worried my AC compressor could freeze up or something i went and got a new belt for a non AC wrangler and stuck it on bypassing the AC.

If you're not afraid to take off your skivvies in public, or prefer to do so, venture half a mile up Cave Landing Road to Pirate's Cove. (Take San Luis Bay Drive to Cave Landing Road.) The picturesque cove is well protected from the wind, but not curious onlookers. The waves are ideal for frolicking, but generally too small and shallow for good surfing.
If you see an SBC truck up on the hill it's because they are watching. LOL. Serious...there's a pair of binoculars in the phone pedestal up there. (Per my pervie uncle who works for SBC.) And no, I've never been up on the hills overlooking the beach either.

LOL! I did lay down with my legs sticking outAsked my buddy if he had been drinking todayWhen he looked at me weirdI explained why I wanted to know
There is some play. U-joints seem alright. Talked to tech at local Ford. Apparently, they say to pack grease into the slip joint at the rear axle. According to him, there is suppose to be some play in the "center bearing housing". I guess seeing I just turned that infamous 100,000 miles, I am paying more attention to noises and how it drivesNever noticed it beforeGuess I play underneath it a little more before I decide to fork out money.

Couple updates:
1) #2 Fuel prices. Chevron by me (sit down): $3.299
2) My buddy James barely made it to SR 41 & Manning when he started overheating.
I was giving a friend who punked me and went with him a bad time about James always running late. Told him we'd be an hour behind him in the morning if they were supposed to leave about 7 tonight. Actually left about 7:30 I guess. Buddy #2 said "Good. Cause we're gonna break down."

Well, here's the deal with James. He's always workin on his stuff cause it usually doesn't work right. Case in point. Last time we went to Miami...he's loading his bike...actually wasn't even on the trailer yet...master link starts falling apart. Grabbed one off his friend's Zilla. There's many a picture with him working on his bike on a ride. Not sure you've met him. He's got to be pulling 2K behind his Jeep Cherokee with a 4-banger. If he couldn't make it 10-15 miles out of town (IF THAT) I don't see how he's going to be able to climb Cottonwood, etc. Least he'll be going DOWN Cuesta. LOL.

according to Hoss, (may he RIP), the worst part about nude beaches is the roll of socks he sews to the inside of his speedo gets revealed, and true shrink mode sets in from that COLD COLD water.

Cold water mixed with Vitamin "S"...can you say "Significant Shrinkage?" Just finished reading all the posts that I missed. LMAO!
Don't start writing my epitaph just yet...Hoss is down, but not out. Miss Kitty did slam me, but I like being slammed by women. Usually I'm the one doing the slamming, but I like a take charge woman...you know, the one's that aren't afraid to knock your "ego" down, and say giddyup!

glad to hear you're johnny on the spot. my latest conquest is to find a good Honda 250EX. I'm really not too impressed with our Honda 400 Foreman.
I really like our Sportsman 400. It's a little sluggish off the mark (like most 4-strokes), but it'll do 60+ and climb anything. I rode the Kawi Prarie 700 v-twin the other day...dang, it's the fastest ute that I have ridden. It's rougher than piss and beats the living crap out of you, but it's fast. I prefer the smooth ride of IRS.

maybe you need to try out one of them new Bombs then Hoss. Fast as hell with IRS
Posted by: Whitewater
My 700 is plenty fast for me, but I was surprised by the prarie. I've looked at the bombs, but they look kind of flimsy compaired to polaris. I guess I see the added weight of a polaris as a plus (built like a brick sh*t house). But to each his own.
Posted by: OneFlyCowboy
Yeah the Poolarisis are pretty tough. although the sportsman 500 at the ranch aint lookin so tough after in met a tree cartwheeling down a hill A new bomb may show up under the christmas tree or a Poolaris outlaw or sompin.. and the raptor may Get its arms stretched out a lil bit and a differnt power plant with a couple more cylinders

Our 400 is a 2 stroke sport. It's a tankOff the line it's slow, but when it hits mid/upper rangebetter hold on. For being a sport model, they need to shave around 80lbs off of itCan't manuever it with your body all that muchAnd this one definately beats me up when I ride it

THough, next weekend i was thinking of making a day trip to hollister. Dunno though.

I forgot about the break in period. Is it no more then 10 miles without the gears cooling down or someting like that? For like 300 miles

Naw. He just told me to go easy and no towing for the first 500-1000 miles. And change the oil after the first 500 miles but before 1000 miles.
I just got back in from connecting the locker to the air compressor. Everything works.

Congrats!! Im jealous
Posted by: BlackandRedWarrior
Well I'm baaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaack. BR>
Had a good time. Didn't ride much, maybe an hour. Ended up camping next to my other friends so I was walking between camps. The Cherokee that broke down made it over after they walked a bit and got coolant. Now here's the kicker (pun intended) the guy then ended up losing his kickstarter out on the beach somewhere riding around. $57 for a used Blaster kickstarter. They got to the beach about 1am I guess. Left Fresno at 7:30. So that's like 5.5 hrs. Normally it takes about 2.5-3 depending on traffic and if you're going slow towing.
Well, back to the Ford side of topics. I ended up getting 19.2MPG round trip. Been wanting to round trip it in the truck to see how that would go. I guess those 3.55s are at least good for something. Though now I've got a pretty good vibration when breaking from highway speed. Talked to a service manager I ride with and he said it's a problem and "We can fix that." Whew.
And I flipping SWEAR! People need to leave gaps along the water line so people can get to the back. You go 100 yards off the water and it was empty! ack!
Some guy about tore up a 6.0PSD towing in a Class C. Started steaming like a mofo (or maybe it was smoke, but it didn't stink...) Then he gets the bright idea to loosen the overflow (or some kind of coolant cap...driver side of the motor about halfway between the front and rear of the engine bay...got a good jet of steam for 10 second and the cap launched off there. (Someone did end up pulling the Class backwards to the water line and them hooked up to the front and they went for a wild coaster ride at about 30 MPH! it was a 7.3 PSD 350DRW)
We were right next to Pole 6...seen several people getting air on the whoops...including me...in our trucks & cars. BR>
Also found out I can't drive a stick for sh!t. Little Kia WTF mini-JEEP thing. Of course the fact the front wasn't working right and it was running in 2H only.
Posted by: rescuediver
LOL! about the blaster kickstarterLOL! Nice wordingBR>
Sounds like the 6.0 blew a coolant hose and leaked it on it's exhaust/manifold. See if Karen shows up and makes a comment aobut using her Chebby
You are right about people being to close to the water line. I think it has to do with too many new comers and they don't know or care to be courteous.
Those whoops do me in
Posted by: BlackandRedWarrior
The entire backsaide of the exclosure was whooped out. That's like what...1/2 mile long? Uggg. That just killed me...we started out that way heading to the flats. My buddy told me to take his DS 650, hit 4th and pin it. LOL. I wanted to, but was so tired or hanging with the other group. Oh well. They'll be other times. BR>
Oh yeah, had to inform my buddy who I caravanned over with...towing a trailer...stay out of the #1 lane going down the grade. Least he stayed over on the way home. Unless he was passing.

There was also a atv safety courseoing on. I asked about it, because I signed my family up about 5 months ago. Anyone, well, they have to be at least 6 y/o because their are no quad guidelines for under 6. IMHO, that's good. Most kids just don't have the attention span to ride at a younger age. Of course same goes for adults as well....
The kids can only get certified on a quad that's within the recomendations set by the manuf. And Calif. will pay for training for anyone under like 16 or 12. Can't remember. I had to get my cert. for working up at Miami.

Skinner, is that through the manufacturer's program after you buy a quad? or does the state wave the fee when you take the class? I am not familiar with the payment process

Yeah, that's a good thing.
ok. The state will pay for the kids. When you made your reservations for the list they should have asked you about it. You can always call them about it.
The manufacturers (well, the big names (Honda, Yamaha, Suzuki, Bomb, Kawi, etc.) will pay for the original purchaser to take the safety course. Most then also offer a "rebate" or whatever you want to call it for taking the course. I got $75 from Yamaha. Honda and some others are $100. ASI (ATV Safety Institute) will have it all on file, just give them your VIN. The manufacturers all give money to ASI (I'm assuming based on their sales) to pay for the courses. It's like $125-150 if you have to pay for it. I took my class over 2 years after purchasing it, and they still paid and sent me the money. The money comes from the Manuf. not ASI.
You can actually go to the ASI website and put in your VIN and it will tell you if you qualify. I know I did that.

I think she's old enough she might have had an idea what was going on. Well that was when they had the motorhome so she was younger. No she'd probably be like "OH GAWD! MOM...DAD YOU'RE ROCKING THE TRAILER!"
Me and my friends were joking about this yesterday. One was saying his friend's wife/gf/whatever she is refuses to do anything in the trailer because it was bought used.

My class was all adults, well there was like a 16 y/o there with his dad. But all were considered adults for the training. I think my class was about 7 people. I think 3 pairs (2x husband and wife, and the father and son) and me. When they have kids, the classes are smaller. Plus a few people no-showed...one was sick and the others forgot (Memorial Weekend).
It could also be done for insurance reasons. My trainer trains people for J.G. Boswell (HUGE Cotton Company for those that don't know). She doesn't speak Spanish. The tainees didn't speak English. And had never seen, let alone ridden, an ATV.

Me and my friends were joking about this yesterday. One was saying his friend's wife/gf/whatever she is refuses to do anything in the trailer because it was bought used.
yikes, don't tell my wife that, cuz she'll try to use that excuse just to get a new unit. thank god she hasn't heard it yet.

The terminal in Fresno ran out of diesel last week, I think on Thursday. Chevron had a fire at a refinery down in SoCal somewhere....when don't they? That's why diesel is so flippin expensive here lately. Even the Beacon & ARCO stations are well over $3.00. About $3.20-3.30. And people thought that Biodiesel wasn't economically viable. HAH!

Actually it changes based on the futures market.
I work for an electrical contractor and when we place a big order for wire, our supplier calls their supplier to place the order, or get a price, and it's good for 24hrs only. They base their price on what the current copper price is. (Or Aluminum).

isn't it amazing that a oil refinery can have some mishap and the very next day prices rocket upwardimg src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-mad.gif" border="0"> even though they have millions in reserves and waiting offshore to be processedimg src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-shocked.gif" border="0">
Funny thing down here. Oil refined in Long Beach which is about 1 1/2 hours away and there is a pipeline that brings the oil down to SD. The prices are about 25-30 cents more down here. Studies have found that the increase in price should be only 2 cents more due to the cost of the pipeline. You can drive 2-3 hours away to the middle of nowhere that get the oil from the the same place in Long Beach and the price will be 50 cents cheaper. Go figure.........That's the stuff that ticks me off big time. It's a big joke supply and demand always applies

Has to do with supply and demand, and as they say in Real Estate, location, location, location. If you're in an area that's more affluent, prices will be higher because 1) the market will bear it 2) the stations costs could be higher (real estate prices). I know in North Fresno the stations are at least 10 cents more a gallon it seams. There's a couple of 76 stations....WOW.
The market will react to the downed refinery by raising prices as they view there could be a long term outtage and supplies could get thinner. Though right now our diesel inventory is actually up over 1 million gallons.
I wonder what kind of impact truckers throttling back from 62 to 55 would have in California? Less tickets issued for speeding (and probably other violations that get picked up at the same time), less fuel tax received, less sales tax received, etc.

Not all companies apply a freight charge. iknowmy brother's business doesn't and the fuel prices are definatley making an impact on the bottom line. ( He works for a major Corporation) So, not everybody is able to pass the buck. However, we do pay one way or another.

Truckers. Unless they want a ticket. They might be able to sneak 65. They'll fly on I-5 over on the west side because there's not really anywhere for the CHP to hide over there. Over here on 99 they usually run 62. CHP lets them run that. Too many interchanges and what not for them to hide on to catch them.
They get steeper fines, 1.5x the points and can accumulate less points on their license as well, before they'll lose their commercial lic.

Years ago, my buddy managed a gas station. They were not be allowed to raise/lower the gas/fuel prices to match the market UNTIL they received a new load of fuel. Reason is, they paid a lower price or higher (just depends) for what they had in their tanks. Today, it must not be the same. Prices are jumping up way to fast and of course, we know they will take their time going down.
