The idle surges. It will hold an idle, but, way high. I can't get it to hold an idle at low rpm's. Yes, carb was just cleaned, plug is brand new, put it on with all the other goodiesTo go back to stock would be about an hour. Have to strip her down and remove rear shock to put it all back. Luckily, I still have itAlmost threw it awayhr>

This is a strange one for sure. I read your other post about some people living with having to blip the throttle to make it idle. That is ridiculous to me. The only thing that would make a thumper hard to idle would be a radical cam. Pretty sure you dont have one of those in there. My only thought without looking at it personally would be the valves. Are you sure you were on the correct TDC when you adjusted the valves? How many turns out is the fuel screw at now?

Wow that was wierd. I clicked quote and it just posted it... hmmmm

Anyway i had this same problem with my warrior after extensive modes and a new carb and bla bl bla. symptoms the same i just bumped the pilot jet up a bit. and she purs like a kitten. you out of the adjustment range for your airscrew. so what its doin is creating a real hard suction pulling a surge of fuel reving the motor to where it needs more fuel than it can get and it dies out.... at least thats what it sounds like your talkin about. I didnt read if you tried the next size bigger pilot jet???

I'm positive it was TDC, I had it set up just like the picture in the manualfuel screw is 2 out from where it seats.

Well, for a Post HoI'm sure the computer system knows EXACTLY, what you want to doBR>
Festus, No I didn't try the next size jet. So, I take it the jets go up higher in number, as the the size increases? So, if I have a dyno jet #134 in now, do you know the next size? 138? I have sizes 130, 126 and 122.

From what I know you can go out up to 3 turns before you should change a jet. OFC is most likely on the right track though. He has a bit of experience with modded thumpers. Definitely not my specialty.

yes they get bigger as the number gets bigger. But souds like your talkin about main jets. Im talkin the pilot jet. the mains only affect 3/4 to wide open the nidle is the middle 1/8 to 3/4 and pilot is your idle area. like my raptor had 22.5 pilots stock and now i have 25 pilots in it. i cant remember what pilots i have in the warrior. the main is like a 260 she's a drunk and not on alcohol

Posted by: BlackandRedWarrior

You want a bigger pilot jet MD. It will be like around 45 or so, I think. It's really small. There's the Main Jet (which is the 138 or whatever it was) and the Pilot Jet. If you're flowing a lot of air, you'll want a bigger Main as well. The jet kit might be basing numbers on the stock airbox, and not the open filter, which will flow more air.

Oh, and if you're going to run an open air box at Miami tell you girl to be VERY careful and no splashing through puddles. Took us a long time to get a LT250R started after the Outerwears got soaked. Ended up ditching the Outerwears and running an open filter back to staging. If you have access to one, might want to bring an extra with you. Just In Case you get one wet. It will keep the main filter dry.

You are correectMy BADI can only assume it has the stock pilot jet in it. I haven't changed it, myself. I'm looking for what stock is. Guess it's a trip to the dealer and see, then go one UP.

Posted by: OneFlyCowboy

The LTD 454 is a 62hp stock motor. not to shabby. it is liquid cooled but has a small radiator. an R6 could be stuffed in for the 115+hp mark and its liquid too. the EX500 motor can do about 70hp. I dunno. there as so many options. prolly whatever i come across. but those parralel twins woud sound sweet in the quad

The kit had a set up fordifferent configurationsSo, according to k&n filter and aftermarket exhaustit calls for #134

LOL i have a differnt carb(minkuni RS 38mm) headwork (port, springs, oversize vlaves) cam piston(87mm 11:1) she is gonna prolly get a 9.5mm stroke before too long i dont ride anymore though. Sompin about that bike though it has always liked to drink fuel. Its fast for a warrior. Sounds like hell though I need a diifernt cam that grind i have drops off to fast and snaps the valves

Relatively large but unspecified in number: umpteen reasons; umpteen guests.

To make a long story short, the dealer didn't have the pilot jet I neededIt has a 35 in it and I needed a 38 (next one up). Anyways, When I went to remove the jet, it was in there goodent 2 screwdriverstrying to get it out. Both were craftsmansGuess I'll get 2 new ones. So, I was in a dilemnaI can order the jet and waitOr, drill it outWell, I had nothing to loose, so, after finding the right bit that "just" wouldn't fit in, which is a 1/16 bit, I drilled it out. Cleaned the crap out of itPut it all back together. Turned the idle screw 3 out and the pilot screw 2 out. After messing with it a little, it idles at 3 1/4 on the idle screw and 1 3/4 on the pilot screwIt could probably use a little more tweaking, but I'll wait until we ride Saturday to do thatActually got it to kick over on one kickimg src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0">

In my experience. Bike will always start easy on a rich pilot. there ya go thats my two cents. I suggest packin a spare plug just incase

Honestly? i dunno i never ran with a 22.5. i was like im takin these out I hope i get it the first time. I have a few buddies with raptors and they said It will start allot easier if you up the pilots. I have 170 - 175 mains with the needles stock. full yoshimira titatanium tri oval exhaust. when i stabe the throttle it just flips over backwards Im literally at sea level. and i ride between sealevel and about 2500' have no issues with my jettin my plugs always look great. oh i have a proflow kit w/ k&n too. open airbox and so forth.

For instance im sure there are tons of threads like this one where what we just discussed is completely off topic with the jetting and stuff. but it could help someone who is searching for it and they would never find it in here. but i guess thats life and thats what makes them have to aske the question and keeps the forums on going. the age old perpetual "THIS DAM THING WONT IDLE" question BR>

Rescuediver, hope you read this to nite. Sure you will. I am not going to make carnegie sat. I have decided to do some house maintainence and work on my tent trailer a little. Had to replace a water pump on the mini van today and help oldest son with a tranny service on GMC 1500. The garage is strangely constantly in need of a cleaning and will do a little of that too. Still looking forward to miami. You still coming up for the day sat? Have fun at carnegie. MWQ

Back from Miami. Well, been back a little while....shower required first off all. Had a blast with LJ and his mom breaking in the new 'Lander. It's scrathed (gauranteed there) so it's broke en. LOL

Rode a few trails new to us. One of those would be good for MWQ, actually both would, but one especially. If one of the ruts weren't torn up on one, it would have been passable. But on the quad I think it would collapse, pitch you into the rut and dismount you.

I use carb cleaner. (in a well ventilated area) I use it sparingly and start around the carb and its manifold up to the cylinder. Also around any vacuum lines, not sure if it has any. A small leak will usually run normal/better if found and a large leak will usually kill engine when found.

howdy y'all, just got back from the USA, and now i feel like an honorary American. the dunes were wet and rainy, but went riding with fishslab and met his wonderful family and feel that alone made the trip worthwhile. haven't read all your posts... but i might.

MD, I finally got to the post office on Friday and mailed your package. The lady told me the slowest delivery is to CA, and Texas. I was shocked, considering I was 1/2 way down Oregon. You should have by the end of this week.

well, too many emails to check, so I'll chat with ya later.

Oh ya, and to keep on topic, boy did i guzzle fuel on the way down. 1/2 as much coming home, even tho it seemed steeper. and can someone tell me, WTF is going on with the price of diesel???? $2.65 a gallon??!! it's more than super-premium gas!! what about the truckers? why aren't they screaming for a change? AAAAARRRRRRGGGGHHHHH!!!! Is it time for a V-10??

creator, i'd laugh, but those are some of the rudest, dumbest people you'll meet at the border. if that latex glove went any deeper, i'd expect flowers and a kiss. got all our US made dog food (dry kibble) dumped out.

Posted by: Trasher

So yer another one of those dang canadians trying to smuggle kibble 'n bits ehWe know about you kinda peoples. High security risks carrying pup food. Next thing you'll be exporting spam or toilet paper

Amazing how long it takes to get mail from a state that is right next doorBR>
A V-10You crazyImagine what your mileage would be towing all your toys with a V-10

I'm also waiting for the truckers to go off againLike they did last year

Speaking of winchesMine is no longer a virginPulled not ONEbut TWO Polaris' out of some nasty mudat Carnegie todayThey were playing in mud off of Oso trail. They were buried half way up their engines Of course we didn't have a cameraBut, winch worked flawlesslyHad it running for about 15 minutes and no problems with the battery keeping up with the operation of the winchNow, I just need to get a switch mounted on the handle bars

what a waste of time reading the posts i missed. good to see Hoss is still around. great avatar Creator, but it really belongs with Hoss.

so i see you kind folk helped MD solve his problem...here's mine. I gotta Sears 2-stroke rototiller. it's about 32cc, uses 24:1 fuel. so it wouldn't run. i tore apart the tiny little carb, tried cleaning it out.it really was gummed up with old 2-stroke fuel. the diaphram rubber was all gum. a couple of gaskets tore too. i got it to start after, but it kept getting starved for fuel. now, it won't start at all, UNLESS i dump a little fuel directly into the cylinder. so, is it possible this diaphram pump helps pump the fuel, or gets it sucking the fuel in? here's the worst part: carb kit is $70, gasket kit is $30.... but gasket set includes the diaphram and pump. so what's wrong?

On my 2 stroke weed wacker the plunger bulb is kind of like a fuel bowl too. mine had a tiny hole in it and it wouldnt work.

After reading about your wheel bearings i got paranoid and pulled the 4 wheels off my trailer saturday. 8 bearings, 1 bad one. Ordered it yesterday and it will be here today. Get it on tonight, the rest got cleaned and re greased.

I fly on business about every week for a couple of days and have to deal with those people. Not funBR>To make it better, My name was on the TSA "watch list" but it now moving up to the "No fly list" so I really get hastled every time.

Posted by: BlackandRedWarrior

LJ I told your those HS ATRs weren't a mud tire. Come on, look at em! Sheesh. The XT has some mud tires.

Trasher...that icon is TFF. At first I saw something new but didn't pay attention to it until someone mention hoss them I LMFAO.

Had to run up to Tracy yesterday. Get the call at 2PM that some wire we were pulling in 500 kcmil (about 1" in diameter) had some bad spots. It was like 150' into the pipe...no way was it going to be pulled back out. Anways....HOLY COW was it windy. I waved to MWQ as I flew past the Newman exit (at somewhere between 80 & 90...hey, I was keeping up with traffic...the rigs had to be running 70 over there!) Pulled into into the driveway at home at 9pm. I left Tracy at 6 and did the speed limit coming home.

LMFAO. I just got the call...I'm going back. Oh how the gas companies love us! See ya'all later.

This week I'm in SD but next Tues-Thurs I'll be in AZ. I would be glad to check on them if needed. Just let me know where and what info you need.

Posted by: BlackandRedWarrior

Well, I'm back. Took a different route up and made maybe a little better time. But not enough to justify 70+ on a 55 MPH 2-lane county rd (Ave 7 and 7-1/2 to Firebaugh and whatever it is between Firebaugh and I-5). I'd rather take my chances of 70 in 65 and dealing with Los Banos on 152.

I think we need to pitch in and by MD a raft for when he's patrolling...came through his neck of the woods on the way back (didn't know that I-205 only goes to I-5 North, and not I-5 South...but anyways) and got caught in a friggin torential rainstorm. Freeway was bumper to bumper at 2pm at 40 MPH.

Boy, the wholesale house isn't gonna be happy when the boss backcharges them. This time they had one leg of (out of 3, well, then there's the ground) about 30' shorter than the others. WTH? Morons. Two trips up there. Figure that's 300 miles round trip each time, getting about 18MPG @ 2.40/gal of gas. Hell, it was like $80 in gas alone. Not including 10 hrs of my time (just for driving time alone!)

Five hours drive one way. sounds like my job at times

No non no. 2.5 each way...well...if I uhhh...MD...don't read this on the job...if I did the speed limit. BR>
I made it up today in 2:10. It's like 150 miles, or so. Maybe 140. Don't recall exactly. Came home on a route that's like 130 miles (assumption based on how far I am from Lathrop (120 miles).

Well, I think we are back to being the 2nd longest thread. Looks like they finally stuck the fork in the Spin Zone. I got a message that it had been moved and it came back with an error. A link to it also came up with an error.

My boss has been silent about Friday which we take as approval. LOL. So I can go up Friday night. Shouldn't be an issue I would think. I don't know what the storm did (any snow?) up there. There's no problems with wash-outs up there, on that road. It's just a regular 'ol forest road. Probably 10' wide.

Check your PMs.

festus, i think ya oughta quit posting 27.2 posts/day, and go back to being a sexaholic. and i don't mean playing tunes on the skin-flute either. my, my, my...there's a lotta scared 12-teen year olds in your neighborhood right now!BR>
okay, so i'm real po'ed that i found such a great deal for the outlaw. not at him... but at fate. when i bought mine, i waited for months for a good used one...NUTHIN! i end up trading in on a demo at the dealership, and taking it up the hershey highway. when i look for someone else, they get the deal of the century. but they rely on my knowledge, expertise and negotiating skills. not only is this newer than the demo i got, it's in way better shape, and $3000 less. Waaaa, waaaa, waaa......snif, sniff..okay...

so I offer to sell him mine for $500 less, and swap over the new plastic so his will look shiney and new. NOPE! i can still live with that, cuz really, i'm envious and jealous (even if i technically bought the new one and it's in my name; or i could flip it and make $500-1000). but i tell him, we're swapping winches cuz his has a 2500lb warn with the thumb control, and mine's a 2000 lb with the the big rocker switch mounted on the rack. now bear in mind, he's NEVER used the winch he has on his old Honda 2wd. AND, he now has 4wd. when i explained the diff-lock feature, he says "I'll never use that". he will NEVER use the winch, ever. he won't take this 4x4 off level gravel logging road, it won't get wet, or dirty. it won't even get put in 4x4. he shoulda bought himself an air-conditioned car with a cd player, cuz they'll go to the same places!! and the winch will just look pretty. well, i guess i'll go waste $200 and buy a Warn 2.5 upgrade for mine.

do i sound like a spoiled baby, or does anyone think i have a valid rant?

NOPE! i can still live with that, cuz really, i'm envious and jealous (even if i technically bought the new one and it's in my name; or i could flip it and make $500-1000). but i tell him, we're swapping winches cuz his has a 2500lb warn with the thumb control, and mine's a 2000 lb with the the big rocker switch mounted on the rack. now bear in mind, he's NEVER used the winch he has on his old Honda 2wd.

I wouldn't think of you, as a spoiled babyI would be pissed toout, like you said, "fate" wasn't on your sidewhen you went looking for your quadNow, "fate" showed you, that going the extra mile for your in law, was the not the wise thing to doand that your in law, isn't grateful for your knowledge and wisdom on atvsBR>
Now, on the bright sidetell him, It better be "IN THE WILL" that it's yoursand, if for some reason, if he decides to sell itYou have first dibs on it

Just got back to my desk. Had to make a run this morning. No, not Tracy. They only needed a 4" strut strat, so it wasn't worth it. Plus I was in the pig. aka our '94 F-450 flatbed with a 460. Here's some fuel price insanity. I fill up the tanks on the way out. It's 2.599 for 87. I make the run up to Ballico. Use the front tank. So I figure, I'll be nice to the next person to make a run and top the back tank off and fill the front. It went up 8 cents in the freeking 2+ hours I was on the road.

To make the PSD crowd wince. The other night on the way home I passed a Chevron station on the way home. #2 was 2.959. Yes, that's right, two dollars and ninety-five cents per gallon! When it pops 3 bucks I'll take a pic. That station is THE most expensive station I know of for Diesel.

I think I've passed 1,000 miles of driving in the last week! Or close. 300+ Monday and Tuesday. Then just general driving 100+ up to Miami for the weekend. And 200 today.

Around here, diesel is $2.63 a gallonWhen I came back from Miami, I stopped in Livingston to fill up, it was $2.32I filled up for $49Still have 1/2 a tank. There was an article in the paper today, about this wiz that thinks oil will drop down to $28 a gallon by summerYea, rightlike it will with it jumping up .08 in 2 hours. It'll take a year for it to drop .50 cents. at the pumpsBR>

Posted by: confusedbuyer

funny how crude price increase = same day jack at the pump, but crude drop = "we have to sell off old stocks and that will takes several months". freakin bandits!!

when we drove ALL the way to Florence and none of you came to see us (except our good friend fishslab), there's this outfit that converts Prevost's and Greyhound type buses into some fancy slide-out mo-homes. they are SWEEEEEEEET. i betcha they gotta cost 1/2 mil. wish i could remember the name of the joint. they were near Coburg or Eugene, Oregon.

we just looked at a beautiful log cabin (5100 sq/ft) on 10 acre parcel of land, right in the heart of our favorite riding area. i'm still drooling. and it's just beyond our affordability range. and we could ride form the front door.

HMM do i drop my truck n quad at yoru house and go riding after fishin

Posted by: confusedbuyer

sounds like yer headed to the Queen Charlotte Islands area.BTW, i know exactly what chicks yer talkin about and where. we call it an "Indian Reserve", and the free drinks will get ya a long way. if there's any other cheap/easy ones, i'd really like to hear where, cuz they ain't in this pinko city...unless yer payin', and you did seem to have a good handle on The Swedish Touch. Funny, i just had one of their employees living next door to me, but she already moved out. guess she didn't like all my oggling.

if you try feeding any other BS on me about easy chicks up here, I'm renaming you Walter Mitty, cuz it's clear yer living in a dreamworld.

AND think about what yer doin' to poor skinner's psyche!! he's prolly already booked his plane ticket and made his summer travel plans.

Posted by: OneFlyCowboy

LMAO. I have no idea where. And canadian girls are easy if your not cadadian. Canadians aint got no game.. Slap them some empty promises tell them your rich or sompin and they easy. and ohh man they had some lookers up in there when we was there the swedish touch. you canadians know how to relax on a lunch break. good Loordy. walk across the street get a blowie and go back to work. i mean dam. worked for me Skinner canadian girls are where its at. you ever met a canadian dude? Their a bunch of soft C@cksand the chicks eat up real men they arnt exposed to many up there. Its kinda like sanfransisco expcept all the chics aint carpet mumchers

ya, i think we're #2 behind san-fran and the rest of California for the softc's. seattle's gotta be runnin a close 2nd or 3rd there. yep, dinner special downtown is often rump roast, bone-in. and i don't know what yer talkin about, we do have lotsa canoe-liquors.
once again, yer flirting with that fine line between fantasy and reality. maybe in yer drunken stupor you can't differentiate between dream and reality....I dunno. OR, do you consider mother palm and her 5 daughters an easy, hot date? altho, i must agree.... women seem to be suckers for a foreigner, no matter where they're from. and the slower the guy's brain functions, the closer it gets to an intellectual match for them, so i could see why you do so well with them img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-happy.gif" border="0">.

Congress is thinking about extending DST. Have it start first weekend in March and go through the last weekend in NOv. Supposed to save a bunch of money for lighting.
