Had a blast out there.
Had a nice relatively dry ride with a couple on Friday afternoon when I got there. It rained a little on Saturday. Not a lot, but enough to have to pull the chairs under the shade ramada (where I pitched my tent. ) It did rain like crazy Saturday and Sunday nights.
Rancho Rd was in it's muddy glory on Sunday and the freaking MC riders trying to ride up it. I know I hosed a couple. And blackshot got one when he got stuck. Heck, I think the whole group got one guy one time. Track was in different conditions. Anywhere from sloppy to awesome.
Drive home was dry except for Los Banos to 99. Had some good heavy downpours in that area.

So trueBut what was nice is, I had that stuff already at the houseSo, I'm only out the cost of the paintif, I decide to change thingsI really don't plan on pulling to many things with it. Quad doesn't weigh enough, to do thatSo, basically, it will be for self recovery. Though, I am up to try anything, at least once

Dam one of these days i gonna have to get some pictures of my log jumpin bumber that bolts on my warrior. hmm i wonder if it would bolt on the rap??? might have to check it out. Since the radiator is aover where it goes i dont think it should cause overheating problems. would have to paint it red instead of johndeere green though good ol recycled gaurdrail.
MD on your bumper what is that a 3/8" mounting deck and 1/4" sides?
Posted by: BlackandRedWarrior
Tomorrow should be an interesting day at work. Got a call on the way home from my supervisor. One of our foreman got stopped by the CHP on the way back from a job up north no registration on our truck (not sure what that's about but I know it is due in Feb so it probably just hasn't gotten here yet or it was on the trailer), towing a 16K trailer (Class C lic. only). CHP wanted someone with a Class A to come pick up the trailer (which has a Ditch Witch on it). I'm assuming he was speeding as well. He has a tendancy to do it. I was supposed to make that run last month.

Ouchwas it from up here? I see you guys still have a few things left. I think your the only contractor that does. Yea, no grace periodsHopefully it was for not having reg. papers in the vehicle and not expired registration. I know around here,(working for contractors) if your caught speeding, you just pray you don't loose your jobspeeding kills their ratesspecially pulling a heavy load.
Posted by: BlackandRedWarrior
Yeah MD it was. We're finishing up the shops around the F4L. Plus doing the shell for the building on the corner (between our trailer and the corner). I think we are down to like 4 or 5 guys on the job. My bro and and his foreman took off for the slow pace of yearly Stockton job. Cherry packer up there is gearing up for the season...they move packing equipment between WA and CA every year. Bro likes it they work like 3x12 and a 4hr day so he's home at noon on Thursdays. No OT but they are always getting free stuff up there.
I have a feeling the fees were paid, just hadn't gotten the reg and tags to us yet. All the same sure to probably be a pissy day. I'm guessing either they (CHP) towed the trailer off, or we got a tow company their to tow the trailer back. Either way...it's not going to be cheap.
He'd probably have to kill or seriously mame someone to get fired and even then it's doubtful. He's the 2nd longest-term employee besides the boss.
I was trying to figure out what the ticket (fine $$) would be. What a PITA it is to figure THAT out. Looks like about $130 for lic. violation (looks like it's 0 pts which amazes me). Probably a 200+ ticket. But I'm not sure if they will treat it as commercial (double fine?) or what. Found a nice PDF from the Judicial Council that lists all of the fines, speeding ticket calcs, weight violation calcs, and whether tickets are Infraction, Misdemeanor or Felony. I know the boss has picked up the tab for a couple of tickets. Reading the vehicle code it looks like the lic. violation is NOT available (by Federal Law) for traffic school, but as before it looks like it's a 0 pt ticket which seams really weird.
Oh, and WTHeck is up with all the stupid little changes this year where they just changed the wording at the beginning of code sections:
"( ) 1 A person may not" ...
"The 2004 amendment added the italicized material, and at the point(s) indicated, deleted the following: 1. No person shall 2. No person shall drive any "
Was this REALLY that important. I wonder how much time went into search and replace for 2005? Ugh. And with the license classes they pretty much rewrote it, but yet it may expire on 9/30/05. It makes no sense. I can't even tell what DID change. MD....I don't envy you guys trying to make heads or tails. I presume you just use a cheat sheet.
Posted by: rescuediver
You know iton the cheat sheetI typed a sheet of all the major violations that I cite for. It's taped inside my cite book. Then, I have an abridged edition, then the thick cvcIf I need to look up a section, you can bet a citation will be issued for taking up my timeBR>
If the reg. was paid on time, but you do not have the sticker/current reg yet. Take what you do get to court, show them it was current. But, due to dmv doing this through the mail, you haven't received itPretty much, have a 30 day period because of the mail crap.
On the Change of "may" and "shall" it gives the officer discretion on what to do. You shall not drive like a one eye moronherefore, I am going to cite you because the law says "shall". When it says "may" like You are ugly, but you may not speedthen, When you give me a half azz reason, or, I for some reason am in a good mood(maybe wife took care of me last night I will not cite you. Does this make sense?
Can't help you on fines. I usually walk out right after the court finds the person guilty as chargedAnd, it's been a few years since I worked traffic court

i'd like to see that if you get pic. how well did it work .
Posted by: rescuediver
Skinner, tow will cost about $125 plus daily storage. That's for non-commercial trailer. Also, if it was towed for expired registration, you will need to get dmv paper work showing it is currently registered. Hopefully, (if they did tow it) they did it for out-of-class driver. He should have a copy of CHP form 180, it will list section it was towed under. Good Luck

Skinner and mstr, are you riding this weekend? Thinking of Carnegie for a few hours Sat. Took off paddle tires todayand put on dirt tires.

Skinner, here are the tow sections 22651 cvc just in case you need them. MD
Posted by: BlackandRedWarrior
OK, got to work and got the gist. There's good and bad. Trailer wasn't registered (truck is good through the 28th), since '02 (well reg. good through '02). Nothing in the file that DMV sent us renewel so it slipped through. Boss is upset because of the 10K limit on Class C.
Nobody said anything about it being towed when I got in this morning, so I assume maybe we got it towed back. Though it could have been towed under 22651(o)(1) [registration] or 22651(p) [license if he was cited for 12500[IIRC (d) is applicable]]. I'm presuming CHP is mailing the ticket for the trailer not being registered.

The Scrap Gaurdrail works great the stuff is bullet proff on a quad. The only thing that was a downfall when i fabbed it was i made i go down to low so if i took a big jump and bottomed out my suspension i would hit it too. but it stick out in the front far enough and is at enough of an angle that you could just slam into big logs and the log would hit below the center of the front tires and you wouldnt get hung under the logs. was a great trail busting biumper. i just had heat issues with the aircooled warrior.

You are correct on 12500 (d) vc. I would think CHP, would of issued a citation on site. But, hey one never really knows, wasn't thereAnd, that stinks about the registration slipping through

Festus, couldn't you have just cut some holes in the plate, to allow air flow to the enginer, would that compromise the strength/integrity of that particular set-up?

I get to go play at DMV this afternoon. Reg. is only going to be $20 I guess. <shrug> They had the address completely screwy. They abbreviated the street we are on as GRV. Gee whiz, no wonder the USPS probably didn't deliver it. Or their system couldn't figure out a ZIP+4 or something.

Today I went to the local Yamaha shop and stood in front of the sales managerfor over an hour. Neighbor has been trying to get/buy a Kodiac 450 for over a week. With me standing in front of the manager, he had no where to goxcept, calling around central Ca. looking for one. He finally found one at Wilson's in Fresno. Now, they just need to settle on a price.Find out tomorrow.
Posted by: BlackandRedWarrior
Wilson's is a pretty good shop. The original sales guy on my bike I'm sure is gone. Someone had to take over for him cause he didn't know jack. Then the service guy who took care of me was over in sales last time I talked to him in there. Pretty good guy.
And DMV only took about 10 minutes. The trick is to get there at 4:30. Small lines and they haul A through everyone. And it was only $20. 5 year reg retroactive to the expiration of the previous tag. So it's good for a couple more years. 10/31/07 IIRC and they issued a new plate. Not even a PTI sticker. But a whole new plate. Now just have to figure out where the trailer is...cause it's not in the yard. DOH.

Posted by: BlackandRedWarrior
Yeah suprised me. Maybe they have the extra money to issue plates over a little sticker. Or people are getting PTI tabs and putting them on stuff that isn't registered, which makes NO sense since they aren't charging late fees. Just going retroactive to the previous exp. date. Does DMV ever do ANYTHING that makes sense?
My boss is still going on about 10K GVWR towing limit. LOL. Hey, the gotta draw the line somewhere. And 10K is a LOT of weight. And that's pretty much where the commercial use trailers start. Except for the Taj Mahal 5ths and big TT/THs. I guess they had Ditch Witch pick up the trailer with the Ditch Witch on it and take it down to the shop complete. Have to run down there one of these days to put the new plates on.
Posted by: rescuediver
Your right, out of all the government agencies, DMV is probably the most hatedother then, the State Franchise Board I can say, I've never seen a PTI tab on a reg. vehicle. Doesn't make sense to put it on another trailer, fees are the same. Unlike car registration.
Anyways, ditch witch must of been in the areaor, it was towed there. I can't see CHP waiting long for them (ditch witch) to drive up here, to get it.
And your right, where do you draw the line. Most common folks, don't haul that big of a load everyday(thank God) and, their vehicles are not equipped to pull that much. Festus, when you read this, I said common folks

Is that the pass only for "day use" at the state parks and covers everything coming through the gate? ie. truck, trailer and quadsI know our county parks charge $50 for first vehicle, $25 for second vehicle and then, regular day use charge per vehicle after that

I'll find out for sure tomorrow on the coupon. I haven't taken mine outta the box, so that's a good deal, cuz then i can return mine and use the coupon. Good call by your buddy on the 450.. that's what i got and i'm very happy with it. it really takes a thrashing. BTW, I photocopied the Yamaha 80 repair manual for ya. that's your freebie. the other... we'll see when we meet, or i mail it to ya.

MD that's Day Use only. No camping. Car/Truck/Rv/etc with one legally towed vehicle (i.e. Trailer[or other on-road registered vehicle]). No per toy/person charge. If you pull a trailer in with a registered non-OHV on it, you have to pay for it also.

See, there was a reason you didn't open that boxHe's happy with it too
Initially, he wanted the Grizzlybut, it would fit in his truck's short bedAnd still have a little room left over. I told him, for what he'll use it for, the Kodiac is just finePlus the towing capacity is about the same anyways. He will be pulling a small trailer behind it.
Thank you on the 80's manualThat week is getting closer'll let you know if, I'm going to make it in the next week or so. Wife has been working crazy hoursSo, I'll have to see what her schedule is, the closer it gets. If not, you take pesos right

I knew camping was separate/more.
It's lateSo, if I understood you correctly, the pass gets me in with my truck and trailerBut, I still have to pay for the 3-6 quads I bring inThat stinks was hoping it was like Pismo, pay one fee to get inand it covers everything you tow inplus the kitchen sink

went to Costco today. got $14 refund for the winch coupon. it expires this sunday.
$50 for day use???!!!! CRAZY!! it's your freakin land, it should be free. what happened to the "land of the freeeee"??? you guys better learn 'em your natl anthem!!
had some problems with my servicehonda.com order. finally got it straightened out, and they wanna charge $135 for shipping!! I'm ordering 3 fenders and they want $40 each. I said, why not put all 3 in the same box?? they'll see what they can do, but for now, have to charge $40 each. aaarrrgghhh!!! the rest of the stuff/charge was very reasonable. I can ship an Eton 90 kids quad in a crate from Alberta, thru the rocky mtns to here for $85 cdn= $70 US. ya really gotta wonder on these internet purchases if they don't make their $$ off shipping, or if they just don't know any better.

I think that's a great dealI can go to ANY state park and enter for free through out the yearAnd, no matter what others thinkIMFO, California is doing something right. I have seen our fees going back into our park system
OUCHhat hurtsYou do have to wonder about internet salesometimes, it's worth buying localespecially when you look at shipping. LOL, Well, you are the Confused OneIt's a annual pass, that let's you get in to the state parks for free(after you pay initially $50)Otherwise, every day you go, it's $6 to enter. So, with the annual pass, you go 9 times in one year, you basically break even. If you go moreyou have money in your pocket. It covers all the state parks that charge you to enter. Remember, someone has to pay for the rangers, bathrooms and other amenities at the parks
Our local off-road parks are now outragous to ride atIt's $7 for your tow vehicle, then, $2 per quad you bring inSo, for me to ride our small parksit costs me $17 for the dayimg src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-disgusted.gif" border="0">
Hope this clears it upIf not, maybe Skinner will step in for meafter-all, it is after midnightand, as you have witnessed, my brain slows down about this time of dayimg src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-wink.gif" border="0">

MD's right. The SVRAs get all of their money from the OHV Trust Fund which gets it's money from registrations. At work I actually have a PDF that shows all of the expenditures (pie chart) for the OHV Trust Fund. Other than Oceano Dunes (Pismo ... you do see it when they are out there with the CAT moving sand around and putting up/taking down the fences for the Snowy Plover ... there just isn't a lot of facilities other than pit toilets) you can see the maintenance. New fences, bathrooms, etc. going in. Someone has to pay for that. And at $6/day use and $10/night camping I think we get a HUGE bargain. I see people from other places posting $10 entrance fees for day riding per vehicle, person, etc. Until 7/1/04 (or thereabouts) it was $4/day $6/camping!
OHV tags went from $22 every two years to $25 every two years. That seems pretty cheap to me. It's spelled out in the Vehicle Code (Div. 16.5) exactly how that money gets spent. That money goes to the local, state and federal gov. for law enforcement, park building and restoration.
The yearly day pass gets you into the parks for day-use only. Though a LOT of people get them and camp on them. Fine is like $270 if you get caught though. I don't bother getting one because all of the SVRAs aren't really close enough for me to day-trip it. Day trips for me are up into the forest.
Posted by: confusedbuyer
yep, i can see clearly now.we pay for our provincial parks, $14-20/night depending on whether they have showers and flush toilets, or just the long-drops (that's Kiwi for outhouse). if it's day use, we pay $6 at most parks. never pay for riding areas, pretty well all prov. parks we CAN'T ride at, but there's tons of other riding areas.
our real beef is what we call " Forestry Rec Sites". When a logging company like weyerhauser gets a tree farm licence (TFL), they have to develop a certain amount of the area for rec use. then we go to camp there. Often no facilities, no bathrooms..nuthin. these places are rough to get to. then our gov't now charges $8 night to stay there. for what? they made someone else do the development, and they don't maintain them. almost as bad as speeding fines=cash grab!

The actual campgrounds maintained by the US Forest Service are like $14/ni single space. You can camp anywhere else (within certain limits of not too close to the roads) in the forest for free. They just charge to maintain the campgrounds. Most of the toilets are pit toilets (read supersized porta potties.)
Some of the SVRA (State Parks OHV places) have actual flush toilets (not Hungry Valley or Pismo). Hollister is mixed. Some of the campgrounds have flush toilets, others (Madrone & day use) have pit toilets. Only thing I don't like about them is that cold draft in the morning. brrrr.
Up at like Shaver Lake SoCal Edison (who owns the lake) has some pretty well maintained campgrounds from what I hear. But no riding from there. Actually most of the USFS campgrounds you can't ride from. You have to do dispersed camping or truck em out of the grounds.

Yes, I believe atving in Ca. is a bargainNo matter what the whiners say
Skinner, I bought a yearly pass todayYou are correct on the $270 fineI've written plenty of violatorsBR>
For us to ride at our local park(run by the county) it would cost me $17 for the daynd, they are part of the OHV fund recipientsAlso, Skinner, for me to ride at Atwater's Park, it would cost me waaaayyyyyyyy too much$5 to park my truck/trailer, THEN $5 per quadso, that's $35 to ride their tracks for a couple hoursimg src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-shocked.gif" border="0">img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-shocked.gif" border="0">NO THANKS. Skinner, the bathrooms at the entrance stations at Pismo have been remodeled and are flushablesActually for public toilets, they are niceBR>Our County parks charge the following
Primitive camping- $14.00
Developed camping- $16.00 (table and fire pit)
Full Hook-up- $18.00 (table, fire pit, electrical and dump)
They do have public showers and flush toilets in the camp grounds. No charge for showersrimitive areas have porta-toilets
So, the state parks are not charging too much IMO

Went riding today at Carnegie State OHV park. The weather was gorgeous, dirt was tacky and grass was green. Met mstrquad and MyWifesQuad there. Had a great time. Initially, it didn't start out to goodook an hour to get the Mojave startedAfter it started, ran like a charm. Think it's time to put it in the garage and tune it up, adjust valves, etc... Anyways, mstrquad and his kids were great. My youngest freaked outwhen we tried crossing a creekIt stumped me, she has no problem playing in the surf at PismoBut, man, she wanted nothing to do with the creekAnyways, mstr's daughter took her under her wingand my daughter just about, rode anywheremstr, tell your daughterThanks againWhen she found the mud and under 90cc track,She had a blast
Anyways, posted some new picsBought a yearly pass and plan on riding there a lot

good to hear ya had fun riding today MD. yep, valves are usually needing adjustment when you have cold start issues like that. i was having problems with the recon running poor on reserve. well, took tank out, cleaned it. there had to have been at least 2 + tablespoons of water in there. so it was sucking water from the bottom of the tube when i had it on reserve. carb drain screw also helped. always check that on hard start, or stalling issues.
i've got 2 red light tickets from cameras. they cost $100 each. i fully deserved them. it doesn't take pic unless you are at stop line on your side when your light is red. if you run a red light that blatant, you deserve a fine and a kick in the a$$. i never got the a$$ kick, but my wife razzed me, so that's close. i have no excuse for either of those, really bad judgement on my part on both occasions. funny thing is, those were prolly the only 2 i've ever run that red, and it was a fluke that both had cameras.
Posted by: BlackandRedWarrior
They've got 2 intersections in Fresno that they put cameras at. Completely worthless other than less people are running red lights so I guess that's good. They have to have clear pictures of both the license plate and the driver (in case the owner of the vehicle says "NOT ME DRIVING!" They reconfigured the cameras at one intersection because they weren't getting anything worth a darn. Took out SEVERAL cameras (which I'm sure the city had paid for and didn't get a refund.) A private company maintains the system and forwards possible violations to the PD who reviews the pics and issues the citation. After like 6 mos I think they issued not many tickets and like 16 had been paid. LOL. Big write up in the paper back then.
Funniest thing one time. They have signs that have a traffic light on them and "Photo Enforced." Someone grabbed some of those stickers that are reflective for mail boxes and stuck em on the sign changing it to "Profit Enforced."

Well i've still been lurking for the past few months, some of your posts are pretty funny.
Looks like i'm going to sell our 01 F250 crew cab diesel and get a new dodge. Anyone interested? Lifted, chip, etc., new tranny, shell, 75k miles. I'll still read your guy's posts since most of it doesnt have to do with what this thread started with, lol.
I hope i dont regret it BR>

Thanks for the additional infohen I pull the body apartto get to the engine, I'll check the tank.
These cameras take the picture of the rear license plate and the driver. Saw the picture of one guy (in another town) that had ran a red lightyou could read the F*#@ word coming off his lipsOL

The numbers I posted were for like the first 6 mos. LOL. Pretty much a big failure from what they were saying. Too many of the pics were useless. Didn't have a clear pic of the driver or the plates.
Posted by: confusedbuyer
here, we get 2 pics in the mail, one of the red light and your veh BEFORE entering the intersection, with the red light in view. THEN, a pic of your rear plate going thru. Owner is deemed guilty, unless they get the driver to admit to it, and they can transfer the fine. I like it, cuz as if you don't know who was driving your car. AND, there's no penalty points, and a modest fine ($100-125). AND, you really deserve it for running a light that red!!
and i've argued with MD about cheesy speeding tickets, and i DETEST photo radar... but i don't mind red light cameras.

The city is paying like $12,000 per month, per intersection for them to screw the driversNow, who's NOT in it for the moneyOne thing the drivers have going for them, is the liberal traffic court judgeLooks like the traffic copswill be targeting the limo tinted windows and license plate coversimg src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-sad.gif" border="0">

Here, they are going to let you see the pictures, ONLY after they mail you, your citationthen, you tell them you want to fight itThen, you can go to the local P.D. to view the photos.
I still think it stinksI guess my biggest beef with it is, they are relying on a private company to do the job of a traffic officerand private business has NO business in L.E.They are only out to make money.
I remember YOU and Tommie giving me a hard time about those cheesy speeding tickets
Posted by: confusedbuyer
hey, where is pa? i can see he puts on a lot of miles so he's prolly very experienced driver, plus it must hurt for him when he gets a ticket..... more exposed to it than most of us.
so you really only object to the job security issue of the red light camera?
Posted by: BlackandRedWarrior
Thing is Fresno City PD pretty much sucks WRT traffic enforcement. Talk about nill. At said intersection I saw someone blow a red left arrow right in front of a cop. Come on. Any better ticket then that? Cop seems him do it. Should have pictures to back it up. Didn't so ANYTHING. In Clovis they would have hung the guy from the traffic light on the spot
They have FINALLY started cranking up their traffic division. Before they didn't have an revenue sharing agreement with the county so the county got all of the traffic fine money they state didn't get. Now that they get a portion, they are enforcing traffic laws. But if the officer is a regular patrol officer, you can pretty much still do whatever you want. In Clovis, ALL officers are on traffic duty 100% of the time. Which I like. People tend to stay on top of themselves. But they aren't Nazis. Most people who complain are the idiots screwing around who they will pounce on.
Yah if you have a commercial DL in CA you get 1.5x pts and maybe, but not sure, double fines. Had a friend who didn't stop behind a RR crossing limit line. Got hammered big time ($1200 IIRC). That one is especially bad for the commercial guys. They can lose their CDL for that one. And he was in a regular car going to work, not in a truck.

Red Light cameras- 'oh what fun they are here in SDBR>
I got caught by one and I when to court to fight it. They are 18 traffic lights from one end of this street to the other. I timed each light ten times and found an average time the yellow light was on. Only one light on the street had a red light camera installed. Guess what I found out?
On the only traffic light that had a red light, the yellow light stayed on 1.6 seconds shorter than the next shorter time. Go figure........BR>
I when to court with that info and presented the info to the judge and also asked to see when the light was last calibrated. That was info I knew they wouldn't have. Bottom line- I walked out free and clear. Screw them lights
Posted by: Trasher
The company that installs & setup the lights also share in the money collected. What a racket!!!!img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-mad.gif" border="0">
Posted by: Trasher
The fine was $271.00 but that was enough so they pushed it over $300.00.
The city even has a budget line item for this revenue. Bunch of crooks.
Posted by: BlackandRedWarrior
IIRC the yellow light is supposed to be set by a CalTrans standard for the cameras. Don't want them to put a really fast yellow.

In SD, the cameras are set by the company who installed it and share in the revenue produced by the camera. Yes, it's well known here that this is happening and the city shut them down because of this issue. It's a racket. I think I heard they started one back up near the airport
Posted by: Trasher
The cameras were to "improve safety" at the intersections but studies here have the accident rate vastly increasing due to rear end collisions. Everyone is slamming their brakes on so as not to get caught and the person behind slams into them. The exact opposite reaction to safety is what they have gotten.
They have their money so all is good with the city. That's the bottom lineimg src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-disgusted.gif" border="0">img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-frown.gif" border="0">

Skinner, there are several reasons why the officer might not have acted
1. 2 people see different things
2. officer might not have seen it
3. officer busy fiddling around with his MDT(In car computer) most common thing while sittingBR>4. Officer has had to put his leg between his tailecause he gets similiar cases tossed out in traffic courtBR>
Now, When I work and am extremely busynd see someone being felony stupidI will at least stop them, inquire, and, if needed, get an autographBR>

I am not an expert in this fieldBut, CalTrans can make standards. But, if it's not a state highway, they do not have control over the setting the timers on signals. The appropriate city/county public works dept. has that jurisdiction.

Funny you mention rear endsMy buddy had that happen last weekLady, driving a new malibu, slammed on her brakes to stop at a yellow lightHe's driving his 3/4 ton Dodgehit's her doing about 5 mph. Both vehicles sustain damages it stands, my buddy could be found at fault for: following to closely and unsafe speed. It doesn't matter lady made an unsafe stop. Here, if you rear end someone, outside of weird circumstances, the rear ender, will be found at fault.

well, let's do an anatomy lesson here. the scrote hangs down low=south. big jim is up top=north. hmmmmm, nope, MD yer wrong. the scotes are down south and the dincks are up north! wow, you guys are really wound up about this red light issue. those are ugly , steep fines and some very unethical tactics from what you described creator. that'd PO me too. BUT, both mine i got here were deserved and very stupid on my part.
traffic court here is SO stacked against you. you're guilty for showing up. the judges basically don't want people tieing up court time with traffic disputes, so yer guilty. and often they'll increase your fine substantially if you have priors. BUT go and axe-murder someone, or drive impaired and take out a family, and you won't get convicted. of course, you'd have a lawyer for those kinda situations, so the legal system likes to make sure they butter each other, but not the unrepresented guy.

Boss asked a lot of questions today about the 10K limit on towing. I think he's looking at getting a 10K trailer for our Ditch Witch (and other equipment) as he says "The one we have is useless to us without someone with a Class A." Gave him the page with Classes in it from the VC. He's reading it and going "WTF?" Says you need to be a lawyer to interpret it. Ok, it's written in lawyer speak, but it's not that hard. Just break it down and it's clear. Went on to say "How to say something pretty simple in 5,000 words or more." Had to laugh, but it's kinda true. There are like what hmmm let me count...goes through like (h) or (i), so that's like 8 or 9 descriptions of vehicles that fit into Class C. Got to cover all the bases I guess.
Hopefully he remembers that come raise time.

Talked to my coworker today. 12500(d) & 22406(a) is what he got.
According to the Uniform Bail Schedule he's looking at 130 for 12500(d) & 170 for 22406(a). I guess the boss is gonna pay the 12500(d). That one is correctable, but I assume that means he must get his Class A. Just wondering if he would get 1.5 pts for 22406(a) because he was supposed to have a Class A or if it's just 1pt. Hmmm. Any lawyers around here?
It really is amazing what you can find on the Internet if you look. That's the 2004 edition. I'm assuming it didn't change for '05.

OK, I call lawsuit...Fresno State canned their woman's basketball coach at 3:30pm. Her lawyer said those two words every University hates: Title IX. Give em a couple days and they are in US District Court for the Eastern District of California. LOL. Had to laugh, a judge in that court ordered an entire law firm to go through 6 hours of ethics classes before 12/31/05. LOL. 20 hours to the lead attorney and forwarded on his order to the state bar. She's no longer with the firm. Oh sometimes you just gotta love judges who've had enough of lieing lawyers.

The elks are gettin set up for highspeed thru the woooooops jumping is secondary. but it will be nice to land a lil softer asweel the pegs are to keep my feet on when i dancin all over it and a few other miscellaneous items to make it all work. Im thinkin about gettin a ROX 2.5" bar riser. but i dunno if i could possible situate it so all my cables is long enough. Mainly i just wanna move the bars forward.

Actually from some other posts on that topic, it seems that Olds. did that as a stunt for one fo their front drive cars back in the 60s I guess. And back for the Chevy Citation in 1980 or something like that. They used a WD hitch so it basically lifted the back end up. Some people go a little to tight on the WD bars and end up lifting the back of the truck up off the ground.

Hhhmmmm, I see what your saying Skinnerwas it an advertising ply?
Posted by: rescuediver
Skinner, seeing you work in the electrical businessIf I was to put a switch on my handle bars for my winchDo you know exactly, what I'd need to do? Other then screwing the button, to the handle barsBR>
Anyone else with knowledge(am I asking much for this can pipe in
Posted by: BlackandRedWarrior
Umm I looked in the 2002 & 2005 editions of the National Electrical Code and couldn't find anything about ATVs. BR>
It woudl depend on how the wiring for that thing is set up. Does it have like a remote style controller that plus in to the winch? IIRC it looked like the controller was wired between the battery and the winch.
Either way you would need a switch (or a switch with relays) to do it. Without seeing a wiring diagram I'd only be shooting in the dark. If it doesn't use a relay, then you'll need some big (Like #8, 6 or bigger (wire sizes get bigger with a lower number until you get into 1/0 (one ought), 2/0, etc and up into the large MCM style cables (200, 300, 500 kcmil (thousands of circular mils)).
Posted by: BlackandRedWarrior
OK I found the old post where you had the pic of the Champion. And the controller sits between the battery and winch. What you would need is some kind of a waterproof 2 position relay. Kind of like a double sided Ford starter solenoid. It would need to be set up so that it locks out the opposite direciton. Where you supply power to one contact and the power flows through normally. Power through another contact would cross the wiring (would supply + to the - and - to the +) on the winch. You would want some kinf of a rocker style switch for the handlebar. You'll want a 2 position momentary contact. I belive it would be single-pole, double throw "SPDT". Of course it would need to be waterproof of some kind. (edit switch type, I had it backwards.) I'm findind some stuff.
I can't even figure out how to do a wiring diagram for you without a <pre> tag. It will just get to screwed up. Let me see what I can figure out.
Basciallyl we need to wire something up that mimics what is inside the stock controller.
Posted by: BlackandRedWarrior
Kind of expensive (almost what you paid for your winch) http://www.sportsmansguide.com/cb/cb.asp?a=78832 Need a polarity reversing solenoid. Or you can do it with 4 Ford solenoids (what Warn uses). The only reversing solenoid I can find online is a marin unit for anchors and runs about $90 (all boating stuff is horridly expensive).
Posted by: rescuediver
Ouch, I thought I could put something cheaper togetherHere's a picture of one, I found on e-bay, they have a diagram(it's towards the bottom of the page) on how they do it. Do you recognize anything like it? Is this, what would cost so much?
winch rocker
Posted by: rescuediver
Oh yea, I did think about opening the control box and duplicating itMy luck, I'd ruin itand be azzout on the whole thing
Posted by: BlackandRedWarrior
The big thing to find is that relay/solenoid. Rocker isn't that big of a deal (probably could be picked up at any auto store.) If you don't care about having power out, it's not that big of a deal a $12 Ford starter solenoid would work. You would then only need a waterproof momentary contact switch. I found a pic of a Warn with the cover removed and that's all it uses (well, they aren't the Ford fender mounts, but they are very close) and you can nearly the same thing at Kragen, but 4 @ 12 would run you about $50 OTD. For that I would just buy one of those universal kits and everything is already there and it would be much more compact than 4 solenoids.
You have to switch the + and the - and swap them for reverse. One set gets pulled in for Winching In and the other set gets pulled in for Winching Out.
That looks exactly like the contactor for the Warn ATV winches which goes $80 http://www.gowarn.com/atv-replacement-contactor.asp.
You'll need a contactor that is rated for at least 60 Amps, if not a little higher. 700 Watts / 12 Volts = 58 Amps.

md, we'll prolly stay and leave on Sunday following (is that the 27th???). why not duct tape the remote to the handlebar?? what about the factory handlebar thumb switch ( or is that $80 from gowarn?)
on the WD hitch, the rv dealer told me the sales video they got shows a Tempo pulling a trailer with no rear wheels, just to illustrate the point.
i bought some 10' jumper cables today, 10G wire, smaller clamps.....perfect for atvs i figured. at $3.50 (US) OTD, i bought 10 sets for buddys. who wouldn't want a set at that price????? I can't buy the wire and clamps for that price!
well, ttyl, i'm off to a curling bonspiel this weekend, teams from Saskatchewan, Calgary, Edmonton. should be fun.

funny story to tell ya all:
I guy walks up to me the other day and asks if I could yank his stuck Range Rover out of the mud. (looks like a spoiled little rich kid). Well, I said sure being it's always fun to pull some nut out of a jamb. We drive up and he's buried pretty good, down to the axles. I back up to it and he hooks up the strap to his brush guard near the hood. I tell him to place it lower 'cause it'll bend. He states "you won't bend this one, it's beefy". ( (I think you might know what is going to happen but I'll keep writing)
I tell him again to place it on his frame or to a tow hook but he didn't want to get dirty so he say it's all good. I ask him one last time. "Dude, i'll ripe that thing right off. Are you should you want to leave it there? I won't be respondable if it get damaged"
He says again it's ok so we get into our vehicles (I'm driving a mighty PSD-had to stay on topic) and I take off hard. I did yank him right out but the brush guard folded straight out and was bowed right where he hooked it up. I got out and was laughing like He!! and he didn't think it was that funny. He says"my mom is going to kill me when I get home" img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-wink.gif" border="0">BR>
I had other stuff to do but boy did I want to follow him home to see his mom's reaction.img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-happy.gif" border="0">

I would love to have a conversation with mommy. A couple of questions come to mind quickly here.
1. Why was junior driving in an area that was posted "no trespassing"
2. What was he doing out there at 10:30am and not in school
3. What the heck are you thinking letting him drive a rover in the first place

I would love to have a conversation with mommy. A couple of questions come to mind quickly here.
1. Why was junior driving in an area that was posted "no trespassing"
2. What was he doing out there at 10:30am and not in school
3. What the heck are you thinking letting him drive a rover in the first place
4. Does he wipe himself or do you still do it hr>
Love It

Then, left it for another weekat a local off road parkmessed up some of the electrical systemafter playing in some sick looking mudAfter that truck, I decided to buy an atv to play with

creator, hilarious story.BR>
about a month ago, there was a video clip floatin around the net of kids who gets car stuck on snow bank in his own driveway. buddy comes by with a 1/2T Ford, and starts draggin him, but he goes a little sideways and hangs him up on the small bank. then they take a couple of hard runs and pull the entire front or rear clip off the car. their stunned expression was hilarious.
my GM van ( the one you keep telling me really isn't a lemon) was in it's natural broken down state about 2-3 miles from home. being too cheap to pay yet another tow-bill on this thing, i decided to tow it home late at night, with the mighty PSD. i have a tow-rope made for me by a log salvage buddy (marine guy). it's kinda thin looking, but he said it's some kinda special fiber, strong like steel to 10,000lb. so we went around my hitch, and around the front end of the GM like a sling, kinda by the frame and lower control arms. my father-in-law rode in the van.didn't want a 2-way radio, but it came in handy when i had to remind him to take it outta park after the initial drag!. the trip went okay. i was real worried about the sling-shot rearender, which we never did. but when i removed rope it had cut it's way about 50% thru, just from the way i'd placed it thru the front end. now my rope is shorter.
moral of the story is whenever i tow someone or pull them out, let them hook up to theirs, and you do your end.
Posted by: Trasher
letting them hook THEIR vehicle up is the correct way to handle it for sure. Don't forget to place something heavy (like a sandbag, coat, something) over the middle of the strap in case it comes loose or breaks. If not, it might come right through your back window!I have seen a chain make the back of a K1500 quite a mess

I was helping someone pull out some people at Pismo. This guy didn't know where to put the strap to hook up this minivan. I told him well go through the lower control arm (only thing stout enough on the front end that was accessable with the air dam. I decided to check it, just to make sure. He looped it around the tie rod. OUCH.
Also that trip we (well, it was my friend) lucked out when a strap snapped. I felt the struck surge (it's a D/A) and was like uhhhh. Looked at my buddy and looked like he was about to cry. "What the?" "The strap snapped." His license plate has about a 1" deep dent in it now.
Has anyone ever seen anyone selling a cotton or other natural fiber tow strap? My brother was in the Navy (USS Kitty Hawk '94-99) and they made it clear in no uncertain terms that NO nylon ropes were to be used. They showed them a movie of a nylon rope snapping and what happens. The manican was sliced in half, cleanly. All of the ropes they used were either cotton or hemp.

Confused the rope your speakin of is called spectra-braid. thats what we use on out boats for winch lines on the cranes. way better than cable.
Strong ropes in the 12 strand catagory
Posted by: confusedbuyer
locally, some guys got liquored up plus they were into the happy lettuce and chasing Festus-age chicky-poos. they were in a riding area with a 4x4 and found a burnt out car they started dragging around for fun. it kept coming off the tow rope, and they'd have to re-attach it. one time, one of the guys is at the back by the car and says to the teeny-bopper, " tell him to hit it when i give you the signal". she promtly screams verbatim what she's just been told. the driver only hears her squelch out, "HIT IT". he floors it and took the guys lower leg off clean, like a leg of ham. they threw the leg in the box and were easily 1/2 an hour away on a bumpy, rough logging road, driving like maniacs. don't know how the lawsuit settled, but should be interesting.
Posted by: OneFlyCowboy
That sounds like a no fault situation to me. if the driver gets sued over it id have to kill the buddy that sued me. DUMASS i guess it is canada and all
Posted by: mstrquad
just show you he shoud have been the one to say hit it

People just don't understand what can happenwhen something goes wrongwhile trying to pull/winch someone or something

Tonight, the daughter and I worked on her MojaveAdjusted the valves, they were a little offLooked around a little bit, everything looked alright. On the cams, next to the rocker arms, it look a little rough, could this be because of the manufactoring process? The top of the piston (looking down from the spark plug hole) looks a little pitted, tooI hate the way the spark plug sits deep in the engine. Can't clean out all the sand and mud from around the plug before you remove it. It's to recessedPulled the carb to clean it. While removing the choke cable, I slipped and broke the little plastic thumb lever for the cableI imagine, that's $20 bucks to replaceTomorrow, guess I'll drain the tank, remove the fuel tap and clean the tank out. Need to visit the local dealer to buy couple parts, tooHopefully, with all this, the thing will start a lot easier for her AND me
Funny thing, while doing all this, the daughter mentions, how long this all takesI told her, imagine if we had to do this, to the other 5 quads

md, you didn't really walk into anything, i just have a full-time pig mind. many times i've bit my tongue, but couldn't resist on that one.
i feel your pain on trying to keep several quads running/maintained. combine that with being poor like me and having to buy used all the time. ya really gotta keep seperate log books on each one for what and when you've done maintenance. air cleaners are particularly high maint. if you're in the dust. dunes are nice that way.

Oh SureWe must all be "a full-time pig"because, when I read it after your post, I thought the same thing you didI guess, being a full time pig is ANOTHER thing, all of us here, have in commonBR>
I feel your pain on being poorAll of our stuffwas bought used(except the LT 160) When my daughter cleaned the k&n filter, she couldn't believe how dirty it wasWhen I told her, they are suppose to go 50,000 miles with out a cleaningshe asked if she had 50,000 miles on it from riding itI started laughingTold her, I didn't think so. Put it in relation to how many miles are put on our cars each yearShe then understood.
Also, through all this, she now, has a very good understanding of how a engine workshaving it torn apart was an excellent experience for her. She got to visualize how things workimg src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0">nd hoiw many 15 year old girls can say" they adjusted valves on an engine

is it someting, we will hear about while at Miamiimg src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-wink.gif" border="0">

It's a joke and not suitable for a family oriented site. LOL
I put on a UNI filter on the Warrior the other day. The stock filter was developing a slight tear on the end (the "closed" end where the end plate goes) and I was worried it would tear further at a bad time. I got some No Toil Oil and going to see how that works. Seemed to suck up a lot into the filter. I figured there would be more left after I squeezed it would. Can't seem to get it all out, esp. near where it mounted to the frame. There's a rubber part that uses a hose clamp to clamp down on the filter frame. Though the did include 2 extra foam bushing/seals. My stock one was ripping off the frame and leaking. Hopefully the Epoxy I used hold up to the fuel and elements.
When I finally go it mounted (that new seal is thicker and I had to really push on the lid to get it closed. Started her up and WOW. She sound good. Seems a LOT deeper. I like it. Can't wait to take it up to Miami tomorrow and rip around. See what happens. Hopefully the jetting will be ok. Worried it might lean out a little bit.
Posted by: rescuediver
Sounds like a story for Miami
Now all you need to do is throw a exhaust on that thingreally wake her upYou would need to re jet, thoughIf getting to your carb is a painthen, it might not be worth the changes. I hate getting to the carb on the mojaveSoooo, much stuff in the wayand not a lot of room in there, to work with it attached to the bike

funny how some quads are so much harder to work on than others.
good thing you're teaching your daughter some mechanical things. when a mechanic tries to lie to her, she'll know. i'm trying to get 9 y/o to help and learn. his attn span for helping is too short. he'll remove some bolts i've loosened, but as i'm thinking about something, he always takes off.
Posted by: confusedbuyer
btw MD, what a trajedy here with the 4 mounties getting shot by the lunatic. at least he did himself after so we don't have to watch the families suffer thru trials, and then puke on our joke-of-a-legal system's mamby-pambying him after. i wish in those circumstances the police just do the guy, and say they returned fire, or make up some other iron-clad excuse. no one would care. captured alive is waste of time and $$, and cruel to the victim's survivors. people think cuz our country doesn't have death penalty that we're all bleeding hearts. believe me, the majority would love to see guys like this tortured and eventually terminated. mind you, all the different states with DP end up keeping the POS alive for years witth ridiculous expense. China does it right.
watching and reading the stuff about the families is heart-wrenching. really chokes me up.

She doing greatDoesn't want me to work on it, unless she's homeGuess, it gives her bragging rights to everyone, she talks too:cool) I'm trying to get my 12 year old into it more. Confused, I understand 110% with whatyour sayingI didn't hear all of what occurred up there. But it's all a tragedyJust like what occurred in GeorgiaI could comment on it, but, it is only being a Monday Morning quaterback, at it's to late for thatVery sad
Posted by: confusedbuyer
same here, we don't really know much, and everyone is wondering how one nutbar can fataly injure 4 rcmp, without them shooting him. i'm not gonna criticize the police at all if they erred in how they handled it, my god, they already paid with their lives. but i have a bad sense they're gonna flower it up to make sure the dept isn't criticized and everyone thinks the 4 fatals were heroic. I'd rather the complete truth come out, and then maybe people could learn from it.
