I'm real tuned in to the noise thing to where I almost bought a pair of those 'silencer' mufflers they advertise on Fisher's TV show. But, after stepping back and listening to my wife's bike as she rides away (and mine is shut off), I really don't see the need. And I'm sure not going to open up the muffler, simply because I don't like the added noise. The engine makes enough all by itself. In fact, that had a deciding effect on NOT buying the muffler. What good is that when the engine makes so much noise? And besides, 'one-lungers' sound wimpy anyway Maybe if I had one of them V-twin 650's it might be different, but my wimpy 400 would just be a nuisance noise...

Interesting reading there Rescue. And I agree with most of what you say. I am, after all, out there on the road every day too. But I just can't go along with a ticket for 2 mph over (all things being normal, i.e., perfect weather and no tailgaiting etc) because there are no two speedo's the same. The constabulary claim their speedo's are 'calibrated' regularly, and of course, so are the radar thingies. But, Joe Public NEVER gets to calibrate thier speedo's and NEVER have a clue how fast they're 'actually' going. And like someone else posted, most speedo's are a mile or two off anyway, and on the slow side at that. I periodically bring my GPS along to check my speedo against it and I always find that the truck's speedo is a couple miles off, depending on how new my tires are. It's just morally wrong to ticket for that close a speed because the average person thinks his speedo is right. But I guess you could then argue that if the speedo's are off by about two, then the person THINKS they're going five over when they're actually only going two over and deserve the ticket based on that. If traffic is running along at 2-3 over the limit, I'd think that was an unqualified victory for 'the man'. You can't ask for any more. But, this discussion could go on forever and prove nothing. My answer to this is - staying out of CA every chance I get .

Speaking of that, I'm off to work in a few minutes (I've taken up all my coffee drinking and time wasting time now, [about 20 minutes...] hanging out on the forum), and I'll be headed EAST - towards Salt Lake where the speed limit is 10 mph faster than my truck will go. Ha. See you guys in a couple days.

Uhh. we are on the same subject right? Taking the muffler off of the F250? lol

Although I just got a new cell phone yesterday and it's web ready for my laptop. Problem is, how do you surf while driving big trucks down the highway?

I know, I know, I have it pretty rough. Confusedbuyer is right - the Mrs. might get jealous if I start "wasting time" at home writing quips to all of you. How do I break it to her that I wear the pants in the family and not her? Who am I kidding?BR>
Hey confused, I'll get back at you eventually (you know, from your wise crack comments). Hey, where are the pictures?

Gees, I'm pretty much out of the loop here with MrTommy, B&R, LtDan, Powerstroke01, and confused talking about speed limits, california pigs (no offense LtDan), removing exhausts, etc. I guess I need to stop going on vacation. Did I happen to mention that I'm going to Moab for 4 days?

Posted by: BlackandRedWarrior

Power: you mean that thing actually does have a muffler? LOL. Sounds good though.

On the tailgaiting. I almost jumped outta the truck this morning and had words with the guy who was tailgating me. Only one thing, well two, stopped me. The light bar on top of the car and the dog in the back seat. BR>
Slightly OT, anyone know where calling law officers pigs comes from? I've always wondered. I guess it has to do with the fable of them hanging out at donut shops. Though in Clovis, I think they are specifically barred from going to donut shops. Seriously. I know at one point officers could get bonuses for being physically fit.

Pig is a Latin word (opcay oveslay onutday), meaning protector of the dunkin donuts. Also, a piggery is a place where pigs work (cop shop).

Posted by: confusedbuyer

okay, but did you know COP stands for Constable On Patrol?I just don't like using the 'P' word in reference to law enforcement, too disrespectful. Although, I played ball against a team of cops called the Razorbacks, and there was a curling team of cops that we played against that drinks their faces off, and they called themselves, "Pigs On Tour" ( they went in a lot of bonspiels out of town). It's okay if they want to use that reference jokingly, but not for me to use, just them.

My other objection is that I think that's abuse of the law/power. I believe any charge consideration should include ,"what's the likelihood of conviction". I would definitely dispute a 2MPH ticket, and i don't know a judge that would convict on that. As a matter of fact, the prosecuting officer might lose credibilty in the eyes of the judge and may lose other cases cuz the judge doesn't find him credible. I know speeding is an absolute liabilty charge meaning all you have to prove is the person was 1 MPH over, and they're guilty. And they're guilty if they admit to being 1 MPH over the speed and try to provide ANY excuse. SO they have to LIE and claim a problem with the instrument. Most judges will give a 5% margin of error between vehicle and instrument.

I have zero accidents, too many to count that I've avoided through good driving habits and anticipation, and many speed tickets from long, open highway drives. I've investigated MVAs for 20 years. In virtually every case, the first cause is driver error, however speed does increase severity. But stupid driving behaviour is a contributor aswell. I.E., the slow guy in the fast lane infuriates a line of people who then try to overtake and drive in an increased, aggravated manner. Common sense and courtesy seem lost on many. In rush hour, the aggresive ButtInSki never gets a ticket, yet pi$$es eveyone off.

my last beef is i get my ticket on the ALLEGATION my driving could cause an accident. BUT if I'm picking my nose or scrating my hungry-bumm (you know, the one that eats your underwear), and rear-end someone, there's no police attendance and no citation. Hmmm, so if I DO have an accident, that's acceptable, but if i speed on an open, empty highway that's worthy of a fine and points, because I MIGHT cause an accident??

'kay, nuff said. I'll shut up. Rescue, Jr turns 9 this weekend. We have a party, and then it's off to Larson Hill for a great ride. Too bad it's a 2 hour drive, but it's such an awesome area with everything.

C'mon whitewater, I'm looking to get slammed and the only one doing it now is Rescue. I need to fiind a clown outfit for my pics, cuz i'm always clowning around. Be patient...they will come.

Posted by: Whitewater

Gees, what a suck up!! You must be a cop or you're trying to get Lt. Dan to be your friend. And to brag about your good driving habits? What a Nerd!!!!!!

Posted by: BlackandRedWarrior

Whitewater: better than the 12 year olds around here bragging about outrunning officers on quads. Like it takes much to head down a trail too narrow/rough for a Crown Vic. My wise, on occassion, uncle once told me, "You might be able to outrun a Ford, but you can't outrun a Motorola."

Posted by: rescuediver

Ok guys, In case you guys haven't noticed, we are in the MOCHA/LATTE' era. Around here, If you need an officer, just visit your nearest mocha shop

A lot of good points were brought up about speeding. All I will add is, look out for the other guy and drive safely where ever you go.

Confused, Happy Birthday to Jr. the big 9My middle daughter turns 12 this weekend tooBR>What kind of riding is at Larson Hill?

Posted by: confusedbuyer

Larson Hill is near 1 mile elev., and is in the Mtns. Tons of really cool trails, narrow, treed stuff, some logging roads, hills, creeks. it's got everything.100s of miles of trails and roads. we have a 40 mile poker ride there every year in Sept. They lay out a great track that's really interesting and very little dust, plus easy enough for everyone. I don't know the area very well, so I want to go with this group to learn some trails. And i just bought a GPS, so it'd be nice to see how it is outside the box.

whitewater, you probably blew a cerebral cortex straining for those and the best you could come up with was "suck-up" and "nerd"?? at least my wife has newly named me "computer geek" for wasting, I mean spending, so much time yacking with you guys. well, it beats being called Mr. Too Big, that was starting to wear thin. we're gonna email Dodge-boy beside you and get the home email , and then you'll be in trouble. and i woulda got back to ya sooner, but i was busy sucking up to an RCMP on one of my accident investigations. man, these guys DO NOT ever return phone calls. I hope you're more courteous than that rescue.

BTW whitewater, my wife was checking your guys photo page and that's a cool lookin little bike you got your son. I saw an adult ride by me on one of those in an industrial area. it flew pretty good, but so tiny. what are they? And my wife wants to know why your wife is so thin after kids. i said you must have adopted, cuz the kids are too cute to have any of your genes.

Okay, now I really gotta post some photos to give you guys your chance to let me have it.

Posted by: rescuediver

Confused, Sounds like a pretty cool place to ride. We have never been in a poker run. Forty miles is a lot of riding(I think) in one day. Once you figure out your GPS, you will probably never go riding without it. Especially trail riding, lock in your camp and head out. Just make sure you bring extra batteries.
I'm pretty good at returning phone callsBut, I know what it's like to wait for phone calls to finish some business.
Ahhh, I saw the picture that you referred to about Whitewater's son. It's a Pocket Rocket. They go for about $180 or so. They are the newest fad right now.

I would have called you worse names, but I don't want Rescue (the new moderator) to kick me off of this forum. Also, I think too highly of you to get involved in such childish games. Can you feel the sarcasm?

Mr. Too Big? What's that all about? Pro Bodybuilder? Too many hot wings? Hey, I used to be called the "Paycheck", so don't feel bad.BR>
Tell Mrs. Confused that my wife and I are addicted to the gym. I go at 5 am and she goes at 9. She likes to do the 45 minute spinning from he!! classes. (hey new moderators, may I say he!!?). She's a real keeper. And yes smart a$$ (oops, I said a$$), my kids are just as handsome as me. BR>
I bought my boys pocket rockets for thier b-days (yesterday was Kylers 6th - happy b-day to your boy, too). Kyler's is an electric (from Wal-Mart). I clocked him at 22 mph on that little thing. I forget how little he is sometimes. He rolled my sp500 on Monday (luckily he's okay). And to think I have a Masters Degree in Health and Safety...I feel like a total deadbeat dad letting my 6 year old drive a 700 lb ATV. My 14 year old neice was riding with him and she has been riding since she was born. I figured they would be okay - I guess I was wrong.

Also, my 11-year old has a 47cc gas pocket rocket. He's gained quite the popularity with the other boys in the hood (they all want to ride it).

What was this thread about? 7.3 diesels?

Hey B&R, tell your uncle that my Ford can out run...I forget...

Posted by: rescuediver

Whitewater, I would use those words as long as it's not reported to the moderators for offending someoneBR>Your an early bird, 5am, I'm usually just getting into a good deep sleep at that time.
Let's see, you have a master's in Health and Safety, But you allow your 6 year old son PLUS, 14 year old niece, to ride together on your 700lb atv. And exactly where did you get this piece of paper? CrackerJack box?j/k
Hey, it can happen to anyone of us. We supervise our kids as best we can. We let them experience a little more because we trust they can handle it. Then, unfortunately, every once in awhile, it bites us is the a$$. Fortunately, no one was hurt. And Happy Birthday to your son. Lt. Dan

Posted by: confusedbuyer

wow, a MASTERS in how to wash your hands after you go pee? In Canada, they teach that in a weekend course. But in America it gets stretched to a 5 year University program. You must have been a college athlete to earn that Football player, offensive line. I used to work out like that, then I caught the bait. Now it seems like a time issue. Good for you, keep it up. Once you fall out, it's really hard to get back into it. I went from hockey player to curler.

ya, I can see how you figure I sucked up, or worse words, since I berated rescue twice on the speed issue. real good way to suck up (??). Obviously it was you that was into the BC bud .

those "pocket rockets" are tiny yet 49cc engine that flies? They just look like they'd be so easy to fall off or wipe out on, which may be a good decoy to get the 'save the guay whales for jesus' folks off our backs and crusading for a new cause.

enjoy Moab. I have friends from here that go there every April to mountain bike, plus they sometimes do some trial bike rides. too much like exercise for me.

BTW, you shouldn't slam and insult your own kids on these forums... saying they look just like you.

Posted by: rescuediver

Confused, What was Whitewater thinkingcomparing his kids to him, They are way to cute. Definately take after momBut hey, whitewater, If this is the only venue that you can use, to feel superior to your kids, then go ahead. We understand

Confused, Are you up to 24 ounce curls? or are you still working on 12 ounce curls?

Around here pocket rockets are: Wait a minute, I won't go there. Whitewater, just keep them safe from harms way. Easy to get hurt on those thingsBut, you already knew that.

Moab sounds like an awesome place to go. You can see the beautiful county, mtn bike and ride quads. Scenery must be awe inspiringI used to be heavy into mtn biking and wanted to go there to ride the trails. No more though

rescue: Fresno Bee last week or two did an article on the little toys. My friend's neighbors have them and like to race them through the subdivision at about midnight....

Haven't seen too many people with them around Clovis. I think people know better.... 1/2 the on-duty force would be there.

Posted by: rescuediver

BlackandRed, same up here. Been in the paper and on T.V. But, no one gets the message. Parents still by them for their kids (no offense Whitewater) and allow them to take them to school, store, etc. The manufacturers crank out all these 2 stroke rides and everyone thinks they are a toy, that can play in the streets with the real cars. Fortuanately for me(knock on wood) no one in my sub-division has one yet. I really don't want one as a hood ornament. I like my Blue Oval just fineI wonder if you could fit a paddle tire on one and take it to pismo? Anyways, back onto the topic; Anyone modifiy their trucks lately? Or atleast wash and wax it?

Posted by: rescuediver

BlackandRed, What happen to your #10 photo? It's MIABR>
Confused, Still waiting on your Mug to get posted know the winter frost has nothing to do with itIt's not that hard, post and shoot and hope you don't break the camera

Posted by: Whitewater

Ouch!! Where's the love? With everyone bagging on me about buying my boys pocket rockets, I'm about to call this forum quits. Yeah right, you're all not going to get rid of my that fast. If I lived in a city and/or on a busy street, I wouldn't have bought them. We live in a very quiet (except for the 2-stroke motor) neighborhood. Ya like my justification?

And yes, my wife has the looks and I have the ....what was I going to say?BR>
Lt. Dan, why can't you ride bikes anymore? Getting too old?!?!

Confused, we americans can't figure out how to wash our hands after we go pee, so I had to spend a few years learning how. It's amazing, I can train employees how to work safely with sodium cyanide, but I can't get them to wash thier hands after they go #2. Go figure? Sick bastards!! Oh, I also have a B.S. in Environmental Engineering (that's what I had to do to learn how to flush the toilet).

Speaking of Ford Crew Cabs w/7.3 Liter Diesel; I waxed it and it still looks like crap (black truck syndrome). However, I'm on the verge of getting bigger tires!!BR>
Okay, my 4 wheelers are broken and I'm sad... I've asked for help on the Polaris forum, but to no avail. Anyone willing to help me with my carburetor induced madness?

Posted by: BlackandRedWarrior

rescue: yeah, I know. Half the time the freaking things won't upload and post right when I do it from Linux. Yes, I'm one of those Linux using hippies/communists/terrorists (take your pick of which). It will show in the preview that it's loaded, but never shows up on the actual page. And yesterday I was one of the select few to be on the main page or whatever. I don't even remember which one it is...let me look...ahh, the gas can one. I can go to delete it, and it will show it, funny enough. (For those that want to know, it happens with either Konquerer (KDE) or Firebird/Mozilla, running atop FC 1).

Here are the pics on Yahoo. In the Quad-Stuff folder. The first two are the gas can and box. Now, it didn't work. Not a good idea to go around dropping 2 gallon cans full of fuel in the national forest... So powerstroke01 carried for me, thanks bud. Didn't need it though. Almost made it to reserve on 65 miles of travel.

Posted by: confusedbuyer

whitewater, ever notice the only ones who hack on ya about your degrees are the guys that don't have one... like ME! I'm glad to see you found employment, cuz it was sounding like those degrees woulda been as useful as a degree in French Poetry LOL.

the pocket rocket... seriously, they're so tiny and one dimensional... why not buy a dirt bike. my son has gone from the PW50 to an XR70. now he needs more power as he keeps taking on steeper, bigger hills. No fear.. hey ,wait a sec, I have lots of fear and you're the andrenalin junkie... when were you in Calgary and Vancouver again?? better mail a dna sample (licking the envelope will do).

Hey, i have a truck topic FINALLY!! speaking of blue oval, I replaced my Ford emblem on the front grill with one that is a blue flourescent one. It's so cool at night. Goes good with the stainless front grill (the bars one, not the inserts).

Posted by: Whitewater

Yeah, I was with a chick I met in a gym in Vancouver...does your wife workout? Maybe it was her j/k.

The only reason I went to college was to be in a Fraternity and drink a lot of beer. Oh yeah, not to mention all of the sorority girls that used to hang out in our house. Too bad they were from Omega Mu.BR>
I would like to buy dirt bikes for the boys, but don't quite have the dough for that yet. Actually, the boys are quite good on the pocket rockets. They are easy to ride.

What's up with a fluorescent emblem? Are you a little light in the loafers?img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-disgusted.gif" border="0">

Posted by: confusedbuyer

now I know why you don't let your wife see your chat, the dark secrets would come out. Met in a gym?.... wish it woulda been my wife!!

I was okay with you being a college preppie, but Frat boy?? AND you have the audacity to accuse me of being the one light in the loafers (just cuz I'm from the queer capital of North America...well it's nip and tuck between San Francisco and Vancouver, but let's just say that "chick" you met from the gym had a y chromosone!! Eeewww). And you wondered why the oral part was so good. (sorry for grossing out the rest of you guys). BR>
I thought you could get a used PW 50 or 80 for under $1000. There are lots here for around $1000 (CDN). I have no doubt they can ride the pocket rockets well (undoubtedly another benefit from your wife's gene pool), just seems like youd be better applying the $$ to a dirtbike. But hey, far be it for me to preach logic to a...hee, hee, hee, "Frat-boy". img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-happy.gif" border="0">

I'm sure you'd think my lighted grab handles on the truck are too gooey-bumm aswell. Hey, i can't believe the forum editing thing let ya use the bast word. well done! I'm gonna add fuzzy dice now, just in your honor.

Posted by: confusedbuyer

whitewater, you musta got an early jump on the moab trip. I feel like i used some of my best material slammin' ya, so you must still be reelin'.hope it didn't hurt as much as your unforgetable evening with the Vancouver Tranny.LOL. You must be over at Dodge-boy's desk to see if he has some witty rhetoric you can borrow. It may take you guys a couple of weeks to come up with something good, like, "you're ugly and your momma dresses you funny".... you'll have to wait for my pics to post that slam. BR>
do you atv in moab? All I ever hear about is the mtn biking and trials riding there. Is it worth the trip just to atv, or do you do more? how long from home? some of the pics my cousin showed me looked pretty scary, but he says you get used to the grippy sandpaper feel of the ground and gain a lot of confidence in a week.

And back on topic, that black curse must get awfully dusty in Moab. When I used to be a lot-boy at a Ford dealer (you woulda been a frat-boy at the time) , we had these specail lightly-oil treated things that looked like big a dust mop. rather than wash every car every day (this was in Kelowna, which looks very similar to Napa Valley, CA.. except better wine, and very dry and dusty) we'd drag this mop-thing across them and it'd pick up all the dust with out scratching. Beats the heck outta a daily wash and chamois job.

hope ya have a good one and hurry up and get back to slammin me. I need the abuse cuz marraige isn't quite torturous enough.

I know, I know, look at the clock...I'm on the forum from home...can you believe it? And may I say, dial-up really sucks. I'm used to my company's LAN. Oh well, my laptop at home and my internet is free (thanks to the company).

Hey Dazed and Confused,

I'm not an insult kind of guy. I have feelings and I realize that an American wannabee probably has feelings too. I don't want Lt. Dan to ban me from the forum. I don't want Mr. Tommy to come to Park City on his way to Salt Lake and pound me for bagging on a Bob and Doug Lover. Also, B&W may drive his company provided truck that Powerstroke01 has removed the exhaust from, to come and help out Mr. Tommy. I realize that you are the favorite of this forum and they ALWAYS stick up for you and protect you. Gees, you even get Lt. Dan to post pictures just for you. I'm not jealous or anything, but I could use a hug every once in a while, too. You need to change your name to Mr.preferential.treatment.from.the.land.of.beer.and.queers. I'm just not a mean person like you. I like to hug a tree every chance I get and you like to just cut them down. I like to ride pocket rockets, and the rest of you just wants to run me over.

Okay, I'll get serious now. I just got back from the big city and had to make an REI run purchasing sandals for my wife, camelback day packs, maps, dry bags, water bottles, a hat for her beautiful hair, river clothes for her....I could spent my 401K in that store. We are going to run the Colorado river (westwater canyon) and hike in Arches National Park. No ATV's this time. They are broken and no one on this forum wants to help me. I reserved the honeymoon suite so Mrs. Whitewater is in for a real treat. We are going to leave tomorrow and drop the kiddies off at my sister's house. It's about 4 hours from my house to Moab. I grew up about an hour away from Moab, but never went there much (except for high school sports). I'll post some pics after my trip (sorry, none from the honeymoon suite...of course if you want a pic of me in the hot tub....eewww sick).BR>
I'll have to check into a dust mop thingy for my truck. It won't fit in the garage and doesn't stay clean very long.

Don't miss me too much.

Posted by: rescuediver

Whitewater, A little razzing going on and your ready to pack up your atv bags and hit the road? Well, don't let the keyboards hit you in the a#$ as you leave the deskHave fun at Moab. A place I know, someday I will visit. I can't ride my mtn bike anymore due to 2 shoulder surgeries in the last year or so. Can't take the pressure of leaning forward on the bars. But, yes, getting to old is becoming a problem for meNot healing up like the young pup I once wasWhat's your quad doing? I'm surprized no one in the Polaris thread has given you a reply yetWhat size tires are you thinking of going with? I have 33's on 16 inch wheels.

BlackandRed, That's good mileage to get on your warrior. How much were you on the throttle or was a lot of it technical/slow riding? I'd love to take mine on long trail rides, but, with 5 quads, I might as well bring a fuel truck along for the ride. The wife's polaris really suxs the fuel, I would think I would need to bring about 13 gallons. Nice pictures you have on Yahoo, Where'd you get the black atv box?

Confused, When you post your pictures, put one of the flourescent oval you have on your truck, I'm curious to see it. I'd love to put a Billet grill on mineBut, now I have to watch what my brother does to his truck. He took the Billet I wanted and put it on his. I told him what my future plans are so, he doesn't put the same thing on his truck. And, If he does, he doesn't think I'm copying him. Now, I'm in the market for a different style. Anyone know where they sell a Stainless steel grill with flames?
I'm thinking about taking my f250 emblems and putting them in acetone to give them the chrome look. I have one of the California dust rags too. They do work great.
Apparently, your wife didn't attend the same wife 101 class as mine. Boy, is the honeymoon overimg src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-sad.gif" border="0">

Sounds like you and the wife are going to have a really nice trip. Travel safely and enjoy the scenery. Don't post pictures of the hot tub unless, your the one taking the picturesIsn't it funny, when you live close to a cool place that people go on vacation to visit, you visit it very seldom. It's like that here, 90 minutes from Yosemite, Monterey, San Francisco etc. And never visit it unless, family comes in from out of state.
I haven't posted any pictures for Confused yet. But, if that's what it takes to get him to post some pictures, I'll do it. Need some need targets for the range

1)you're clairvoyant. when the email showed whitewater posted a reply i thought he's either like me and has to work late for 2 weeks before he can even think of going on holidays (it's true, i'm self-employed and I work till midnight for the week before vacation), OR, you're giggling in the bathroom at home with the lights off because you don't want Mrs. W to know your dark secret about the Vanc. 2)These are good natured slams, not insults. But I didn't realize you were complimenting me when you called me Lt. Dan's suck-up and nerd. BR>
3)I AM a Bob and Doug lover. Half the guys I went to school with were not far from their characters. 'till they both sold out and became those American wannabes you referred to.

4)Beers and queers.... LMFAO... that's one of your best ones so far. you'll have too find a way to blend a good quip about turd-punchers with bud, because we're world infamous for that too (at least everywhere I go people always bring it up).

5)we're also world infamous for our forests and some of the huge clear-cuts. we're the poster child for what NOT to do the trees. Funny thing is they all get replanted and grow back. you REALLY have to listen to the old Monty Python song/skit about " I'm a lumberjack and I'm okay". It's too funny.

6)what's an REI run?

7)I've insulted Polaris too many times to say something useful (NOW those were insults), but I'm surprised the Polaris forum isn't helpful. The Yamaha and Kids forums have always helped me a lot with my problems.

8) part of me wants to be a smart-a$$ and call you a suck, but that is truly fabulous that you do something nice like that for you wife. I'm sensing this weekend will be the pro-creation of #4. At least the old college effort will be there. I'm told things like that are good for a marraige...now if only I could find a babysitter...

9)despite our unadulterated ba$terdizing of this original post that we've now turned into a 250+ post/chat room, I think it's important we remember this is about powerstrokes, and we should try to end with some reference or chat about the topic. so I hope your powerstroke runs well all weekend and doesn't let you down at the honeymoon suite img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-blush.gif" border="0"> Again, I'm sorry for being a pig, but it was too hard to resist.

oh, the truck, ummm, see if you can get a chip for it, or some gauges, or a new pipe. And let us know what kinda mileage you get runnin empty.

Posted by: confusedbuyer

rescue, I heard marraige can cause shoulder problems.. but both??

I'm gonna try getting some pics...target practice..LOL!!You won't be able to look at them long enough to sight your shot.

our tires are in metric (I think), actually a bit of both...how confusing.Mine are 235/85/16. The 16 is 16 inches, but I'm sure the first 2 #'s are circumfrence and ? The more I think about it, I dunno.

Posted by: rescuediver

Confused, I could only wish marriage caused my problems to my left shoulderAnd that would be the correct one tooIt's not both of them, at least not yet. I've had my left shoulder cut on twice in the last year or so, trying to fix it. No luck though. Now, I over compensate with my right shoulder/arm. Get your pictures up, we will let you know waht we think of them'm sure they won't be that bad, just to be sure though, leave your helmet on forgot, you guys are backwards up there, Metric. I also forget what the numbers mean on the tires. All I know is, they are dang expensive for 33's.

see your PM.

Just sent you a couple too. One about posting pictures.

Posted by: BlackandRedWarrior

Wow, that a good way to wake up in the morning. Ok, I've been up for about an hour, it's early for me, unless I'm out riding.

Ok...where do I start replying....

Whitewater...you go boy. Have fun. Try to get out of the room too. BR>
Rescue...we were running about +/-25MPH on the forest roads. Sometimes up to 30. Just too curvy for anything that fast. Plus they'll change up soil types, rocks, etc. Some beautiful views overlooking Ahwahnee (I always mispell it, but it's close enough, power can correct me when he actually gets back on the forum.) and towards Mariposa. I was trying to keep it in 5th or 6th gear barely turning the motor but I'd bog a lot. I was going for mileage, though we had an extra 2 gallons.

A group I run with is putting on a poker run up above Coulterville/Greeley Hill in October or November. I think November. Looking like a 60 mile loop.

The box is from Wally World. Cost like $11. Sign said $25 or so. I figure oh what the heck. Then they charged me $11 so I was happy. It works pretty good. One note of caution: do NOT carry a small air compressor in there and a bag of Cheez-Its. The bag was slightly open...EVERYTHING was covered in smashed crackers. Have to check to see if power deCheez-Ited the compressor yet. But he's...umm...occuppied until the 26th. BR>
I understand on the living close but never going anywhere. I've been to Yosemite like 4 times in my life. Meaning to get out and see more than the Valley. It's gotten so expensive there it isn't funny. They can have SF. It's a dirty, nasty tourist trap. Go a block from the tourist places and it's disgusting. People say downtown Fresno is nasty...we don't have trash building up in the gutters. My favorite Coastal destination is Monterrey. Though I go to Pismo to ride. I'm not into the other parts of Pismo. Last weekend was the first time I went into Pismo itself to do something. Dinner at Shelley's or whatever its called. Took a lot of convincing of my friend. She went there like 10 years ago and it was bad. LOL

Tires in the US are measured in basically 3 ways. I forget the 3rd way. Maybe I'll remember while posting this.

Metric (just about every passenger vehicle and light duty truck use this method, from the factory): [P/LT]215/75R15. P = Passenger. LT = Light Truck. Passenger tires are a softer compound, but don't have the high weight ratings of an LT. Tread width is 215 milimeters wide. The side wall is 75% of the tread width (aspect ratio). R = Radial tire. 15" diameter wheel. The 215 is tread width. Though different tires have different overall widths caused by the design and bulge of the sidewall.

I'm not sure of the technical name, but they are measured in inches. You only usually see this on bigger trucks, and are as rescue reffered to them by their tire diameter. "33s" "31s" etc. They will also have their width in inches and a size for the rim.

Gotta love HowStuffWorks.com. Read through and on page 2 (well, 3 actually) has the metric information. Everything you wanted to know about the tire but didn't know what to ask.

Yeah yeah, it's getting long.....grab another beer/soda/espresso/whateveryoudrink.

I believe that REI is some kind of store....Looks to be a camping, hiking. etc. store. REI Web Site.

ok, that's it, I think. Hope you enjoyed class today boys (I haven't seen any women post, but maybe some are lurking....a thread about trucks and diesels and guys busting other guys balls...probably not.)

LMAO, your killing me BlackandRedimg src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-happy.gif" border="0">When I saw how long your post was, I went and grabbed another diet pepsi. To early for a cold oneWhen that poker run comes around, make sure it post it. I've never been in one. Really don't know what you do exactly, hear about them. Do you just run from point a,b,c etc. pick up a card and at the end, best hand wins?
I hear you about Yosemite, I would love to go in the back country. Wife last weekend did a rescue, 14 miles in from the valley floor. (she's a flight nurse) Camper fell, hit her head. She flew in on a military huey. She was jazzed. I was jealousShe was at over 10,000 feet snow everywhere. You know, the rangers go in the back country for 7-10 days. Not only do they check on campers, but they also look for people, trying to hide from Johnny Law.
I hear you about S.F. But, they do have some cool things to visit. I love AlcatrazLock them all up and throw away the keysBR>
I myself haven't heard of REI, but, I wish Cabela's or Bass Pro would build one out here. I know Bass Pro opened or is opening a store in Vegas. Might be a good reason for a road trip.
I don't think too many women are lurking around the bend waiting to jump in on our conversations. Even though, occassionally, I do join in on a thread that DancingQueen or TnT is onLt. Dan

Confused, No luck on the pictures? I was hoping to do a little target practice todayIf you need help, do a search by typing in "posting pictures". There's like 10 different posts on it. I'm sure one would help you out. Biggest problem people have, is getting them down to the right size 750x750 and less then 150k.

Posted by: BlackandRedWarrior

Ahh another Diet Pepsi guy. Used to be a root beer guy but can't do that anymore. And Diet RB just doesn't taste right. Of course I used to say I'd never drink diet soda at all.....

Yes on the Poker Run. You just go from station to station. Up there you pretty much have to follow a route because of the forest roads, which is nice because hopefully people won't get lost. One guy got seperated from us on a pre-run up there. He did make his way back to the staging area so all was good.

First one I did was at Hollister and it was a free-for-all to go get the cards. It was set up that you couldn't make a loop. You HAD to back-track. But depending on how you did it, you only had to backtrack on a little cross-over trail up over on High Rd. Definately cool. Best time was like 24 minutes on a MC.

Cabellas has some cool stuff. I got a little catalog that came for my boss. He didn't want it. Hadn't looked at the last one. LOL.

Not sure who TnT is. DQ is pretty easy on the eyes though. Everyone thought I was trying to hook up with her way back last year when I first started posting. Just cause a guy lets someone know that people from their area are riding doesn't mean he wants to go for a "ride."

Posted by: rescuediver

I hear you, I wouldn't touch diet drinks for the life of me. Then one day at a dive call out, that's all we had. So, dehrated as I was, got hooked and been drinking it ever since. Now, I can't stand the real stuff
So, on these poker runs, is it a speed contest to get from point to point? or can you take your time? Sounds like a good reason to have a gps. I love Cabella's, especially their truck/atv catalogI don't remember TNT's full screen name, but she is a mother, that has a racing family. She also races herself and she definately is easy on the eyesI hear you about "rides" when your trying ro be nice, people think you are hitting on them.

what are you guys talking about?? don't you remember the 2 gorgeous babes I somehow po'ed (mudisntjust4boys, and her sister racingisntjust4boys), when whitewater accused them of being an old man/poser? instead, they decided to pile on the Canadian and blame him, just like the rest of ya.whitewater came out smelling like rosewater, while I was sewer-water!This thread must be gettin' too long.

who are these 2 femme-fatales you're referring to? usually most women can tell when I'm hitting on them when I start dry-humping their leg like a puppy

you guys are on an island with your diet pop.

got up at 8 this AM and sold my 18' flatdeck equipment trailer (the one I was telling you about rescue). Phone rang off the hook for it. then ran my a$$ off all day doing big party for relatives and 9 y/o son. JUST sat down to see what's new. exhausted. way too hot today.

tomorrow early we ride. Oh yeah, the poker run is NEVER about speed. you pegged it perfect with your earlier post. There's a bucket of cards at each checkpoint. you grab one and the write the card down on your hand, then the card goes back in the bucket. so getting there faster won't change the card you get.best poker hand wins. in our club rides, you can pay extra for an extra hand. then there's prizes for the best few hands and the rest are random prizes.

pics gotta wait for another day.

Posted by: rescuediver

Aaahhh, sounds like my day, minus the trailer. Youngest daughter had a b-day party she went to. Today was also my middle daughters b-day. So, we were running around today also. Did getting rid of the trailer give you enough canadian cash for a new trailer? Yes, I did forget about the two that you dry humpedLMAOimg src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0"> I think I'll have to give this poker run a try. I take it, you need to pay to enter these things?
Have you seen how hard it is to get to our latest posts? I laugh, everytime I see Whitewater's sons face with that green hair on pages 7 and 10 as I navigate this long threadBR>
Ahh pictures, yes, well, I have a feeling you just like hiding behind that brown paper bag

w00t.. Just checkin in.. lol..

Me and my freind are gonna take the jeep up and explore some more trails tomorow... Hopefully we dont get lost.. I guess that would be pretty hard to do though.. Even though it seems easy, all roads lead somewhere. Whether or not that somewhere is an end is up to the road.. lol So, I guess I could get lost. But hopefully not. With the GPS and my excelent since of direction(dont laugh BLackandRed) lol..
Wow its late.. eh ok maybe not. I got home at 2:30 this morning.. then i got up at 9. So thats not that bad..,mmmm

Ok, Im off to bed. I dont want to keep on rambling.. It tends to scare the web monkeys off. But thats not a bad thing. They just get bored.. lol

This poker run is supposed to be like $25/hand/rider. You can get multiple hands, IIRC. You get a card in an envelope and open em all up back at the camp so there's no cheating. Winner takes 75% of the purse. Could be a nice little chunk 'o change I'm thinking. Last one was cheaper, but involved more people. We had kids in go-karts out there. This one will be long distance (+/- 60 miles). Last one was right at about 21 according to the GPS. Took about an hour to ride. Maybe a little less if you planted your family jewels firmly on the wall.

Oh yeah, I remember when the fecal material hit the air mover before. LOL.

Oh great man. Remember the maps! I don't wanna have to put out a party looking for you. Fill up the tank and throw her in 4L. But you better wait to take Shutteye. I wanna be there for that one. ANd watch out for those Forest Circus guys flying down the road!

Jeez, I go off to work for a couple days and when I get back I'm PAGES behind - and the topics have left me behind as well.

Who are Bob and Doug? I'm an XM Radio addict now (on the road anyway) so if these guys aren't there, they're out of luck for MY listenership... ha.

Oh, and Carson City almost burned down and my last "between trips" hometime was spent surfing for info about the fire. In-laws had a mandatory evac for one night so we had them here. Now it appears most of it is under control. Whew! Almost burned down a brand new 'watering hole' called Sparkies. What a near tragedy!

I like Diet Pepsi - with Meyers and Cherry Flavored Brandy. Can't stand the 'real' stuff anymore. Just too damned sweet! Plus the empty cans attract pesky little creatures.

Speaking of Cabela's (someone was weren't they?), there is a rumor that they're going to build one in Reno. Gadzooks, there goes the bank account.

Someone was talking about Moab. We almost were out that way this fall, but I wasn't able to get the right week off to attend the HUGE Rocky Mountain ATV Jamboree in Marysvale. We had our money in and everything. Got a complete refund though, and I guess we may just try again next year. Then again, we're not sure we want to be ridding in groups of 50-60 ATV'ers. Can you IMAGINE the dust???

Posted by: BlackandRedWarrior

Same area between Beasore & Minaretes? Looking for another 7S02?

Try that other site with the scans of the quads I found. ONly problem is that there is WAY too much detail to print them 8.5x11. Gotta love having a plotter (max width of 24") at the office. And we just got in a big pack of 24x36 paper.

Posted by: rescuediver

BlackandRed, thanks for the info on the Poker Run. So, if I take the kids along, can they just ride or do they need to pay? Of course, they won't be playing in the poker run. Actually, on second thought. Maybe it will just be the wife and I. 60 miles is a lot of riding.

MrTommy, no kidding on falling behind after a couple daysWe don't just reply, We write novelsThe wife said, I was worse then a woman on my cell phone. If she only saw some of my postsGlad everything worked out with you on the fire. People just don't take them serious enough.
It was me who mentioned Cabela's. Whitewater mentioned REI. It would be cool if Cabela's built one in Reno. Sacramento would be better yetut, Reno is only 3 hours awayI love their stores, been to them back in Nebraska. Thought I died and went to Heavenimg src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-happy.gif" border="0">You mentioned Pepsi and ants. It never hit me that that they don't like diet, I know if you leave a regular Pepsi sitting around. Kiss it good-bye

The jamboree would be cool to attend. But, riding with that many atv's is crazy. The dust would be terrible. Would need that scba someone posted in another thread (was that you BalckandRed) But, seeing all kinds of different atvs would be cool. Definately getting into these quads way too muchimg src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-happy.gif" border="0">

Black and red, an ex-US Navy buddy of mine told me this joke 100's of times.

what does fecal material sound like when it hits the air mover? Maaarrrriiinne (Marine). guess ya gotta appreciate the rivalry amoungst the various armed forces to laugh at that one.

Mr. Tommy, Bob and Doug was a comedy skit on SCTV that evolved. They were two drunkin' beer drinkin', chain smokin', Canadian back-bacon eatin' fools. It was sorta a parody of the typical US stereotype of us Canadians living in the great white north. Bob was played by Dave Thomas, who's been in tons of shows and movies. He played Russell the pharmacist in Grace Under Fire. Rick Moranis was Doug, and he's been in tons of shows too. SCTV was similar to Saturday Night Live in that it produced lots of good comedians (John Candy, Eugene Levy, Harold Ramis, Martin Short, Joe Flaherty, etc..).

Rescue, we're sooo close to photos!! My buddy took tons of digitals today of our ride at Larson Hill. What a blast we had today, but long day. Left at 7:00AM, home at 11:30 PM. We put 60 miles of trails on today.

Posted by: BlackandRedWarrior

This group is very family oriented so I'm sure there will be tons of kids around (there were in May!). Those that don't ride, and want to play can draw cards when it's all done. We might have to work something out if people don't want to pay $25 for the poker run. I know it would be rather steep for me if I had more than myself. Usually we have a big potluck. Some of the money goes to buying tri-tips for the main dish. Then other people end up bringing side dishes and what not. I'm assuming that's where the other 25% goes. Kind of like just a dinner ticket. We had 4 toy boxes and about 5 or 6 tents up there. And some locals.

We made a long ride (60 miles) out to Little Nelly Falls which is just outside of Yosemite. It was really cool of a ride, even though I thought that I'd try out doing a barrel roll manuever on the corner...too much Top Gun and flight sims as a kid I guess.

The reasons that ants don't go for diet sodas is because they use non-nutritive sweetners (Aspartame [most all diets] or Splenda in RC Cola.) IT just doesn't do anything for ants. They don't drink for enjoyment.

I don't think it was me who meantioned SCBA. At least that I don't recall. Keep meaning to try the dust mask thing though.

I understand the whole armed forces branches ribbing each other. My grandfather used to always claim that the Navy was part of the Marine Corpes. My brother did enough time for both of us. 1 year of schooling (Orlando, FL) and 5 years active duty as a Machinist Mate aboard the USS Kitty Hawk. He had to leave or he was "going to kill someone" according to him. He couldn't stand the new recruits. No respect. Wouldn't obey orders (such as taking the trash out) and don't even get him started on women on the ships. WOW. Great in concept, but doesn't work out that well.

Now that wasn't too long. I've been waiting for you fools to post all day! LOL. The supervisor is gone to Europe for 5 weeks...so make sure you guys post a lot during the day if you can.

Posted by: rescuediver

Confused, Thanks for clearing up the Bob and Tom, I know who your talking about. I just can't pictures the two of them (Thomas and Moranis) being together as a Laurel and Hardie, Abbot and Costello, Sonny and Cher, Ok, I went blank and wasn't done typingimg src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-confused.gif" border="0">
Getting up that early, riding 60 miles and getting home at 11:30 must be tiringDid you take your motrin, centrum? That way, you can move around in the morning when you wake up, especially when you need to run to the little boys room? That's good about the pictures. Thought you were avoiding posting them. You know we are expecting some that will put everyones to shame. Great camping photos, towing rigs, atv's, family and anything extra curricular
Back on track with the thread, How did you tow rig do today? No problems?

BlackandRed, is Little Nellie Falls on the Mariposa or Coulterville side of Yosemite? Sounds like the poker run will be fun. I'll try to attendAnts aren't as dumb as you think. If, they don't eat the stuff, maybe we should follow the warning label on the cansust kidding, could get hit walking across the street tomorrowBR>It wasn't you on the SCBA, it was Mr. Hepa, thanks Confused, for setting me straight and letting me know, I am no Shirlock Holmes but, more like Barney Fife. rig ran great. with my 450, Jr.'s raptor 80 and the weight of my deck, I figure i had easily over 1000lbs. pulled the coquihalla Hwy at 80MPH (but if I'm on record, it was 70MPH.... that's the speed limit ), and the grades and length of hill are very steep/long (up to 8% for several miles). Lots of people overheat on it. tow trucks are ALWAYS waiting at various stages along the grade, like the vultures they are. ** Side-track: Our worst tow-truck story was in central/northern California. Me and a buddy took a road trip in a fully restored (by my dad) 1964 Galaxie 500 convertible. We got a flat tire (dad cheaped out on the tires). The jack-all style jack was rusted and wouldn't lift car. Hwy. Patrol stopped but wouldn't let us use their jack because , in the words of the officer, "we only have a special issue jack designed for these police vehicles"... BS! I understand police don't have time for that crap, but don't lie, just say we've got more important matters to deal with. Anyways, calls out a tow truck. Buddy asks him if he wants it in neutral or park. tow guy says leave it in park. He lifts front and we re&re tire, which already had lugs loosened before truck came. Lets down veh, and because of convertible with no roof structure to help support weight, the car flexed and broke a pin in the tranny. when we shifted to 'D' we were in reverse, 2nd was 1st, etc. THEN, he charges $80US=110 Cdn. Ridiculous. If you break down on the freeway here, the police call a reputable tow company, and you might pay $35 US to have car towed to a shop.

Angle of ramp looks worse than it is. my 9 y/o loves driving up. I usually back on from home, cuz i'm never sure what the unload will be like, but going downhill/off is easy.

better photos will follow of rig/kids, and get me outta the prison gear. thanks, it is quite nice in that area. I guess there is some benefit to living in a 8-9 month rainforest.

Barney Fife...LMAO. we're a post behind. okay, i was falling asleep at the keyboard. still exhausted from party for Jr. on Sat, so we'll chat tomorrow when I get my photos in order. BTW, notice all the ugly mug pics? no hiding behind the mask.

Coulterville side. It's actually along Old Coultervill-Yosemite Rd. or something like that. We camp around the beginning (west end) of 2S02 (If I remember correctly in my old age. Working on the last 2 days of 27. Someone just put me out to pasture.) It's right past Greeley Hill. When I figure out where I set my GPS I'll send you some coordinates. My hard drive with my GPS stuff died yesterday....what a flippin weekend!

Confused, I have no Laws of arrest outside the borders of this great country80mph going uphill, that's showing some serious powerHhhaaa, tow trucks. You got a tow truck off of the "rotation sheet" We call in requesting one, (unless you have one you want us to contact)and they call the next one on the list. Out here, we have all kinds, of drivers. I can go on and on about how stupid they can be. But anyways, they passed a law few years back, tow trucks can no longer be on the prowl along the highways, looking for innocent victims of distress. SO, now, CHP (at least in my county) babysit vehicles on the side of the road. Unfortunatley, we don't loan out gear from our vehicles. Liability issues. You know, we have, per capita, the most attornies in the nationnyways, we don't loan out our gear. Now, on the other hand, I know, I have in the past (and chp officers I know) changed tires for people on the shoulders. Last flat I got was on the way to a call, all I hear is thump, thump thumping going down the road. I pull over in front of a house in the country. It's over 100 degrees and the last thing I want to do is change a tireWell, as I'm breaking out my laugh-a-jack and spare, A rancher pulls up with his fork lift, places the forks under the frame and lifts the tire of the ground for me. He then changes the tire for me and I'm on my wayIt was almost as fast as a NASCAR pit stopThat was pretty cool. I've had people in the past drive by and flip me off, while changing flat tires beforeAnyways, sorry to hear about your bad experience in Central Ca.
I'll try and get better/up to date photos in the some what near future. And about hiding behind a mask, remember, I'm the Lone Rangerimg src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-happy.gif" border="0">

BlackandRed, Cool that's even closer to meI'm not familiar with the Old Yosemite Rd. But, my sister in law's dad owns property around Greely Hillwhen I talked to him last, we were talking about riding areas near him. Might see him this week, I'll ask him if he's familiar with 2S02? I think I have a map of that area. I'll try to find it and check it out. I actually know how to use lat and long so, if you can send me the coordinates, that would be great. I can always use the maps at my wifes workToo bad on your hard drive, hope your weekend went better. later guysLt. Dan

Rescue, basic vicinity is East of 49, North of 140, West of Yosemite and South of 120. Groveland Ranger District, Stanislaus N.F.

I mistyped earlier. It's 2S01. We camp right along Bull Creek Rd. at 2S14.

I'll shoot you a PM of a link on Mapquest showing the area.

this post is all about trucks. my Ford diesel mechanic buddy came by 2night. he lives about 3-4 hrs away in Kelowna. he's here for cancer treatment. he had a bone marrow transplant 4 years ago and the prednesone and other drugs are killing him. he looked awful and is suffering alot, which doesn't seem fair after what he's been through the past 5 years. wife and 3 kids. wish him well.

we chatted about the 6.0 vs. 7.3 diesel. he doesn't like how they went to a smaller block and get more power, wondering how long they will last. he figures no substitute for cubic inches. I asked about the Cummins and Duramax. He says nothing can touch the 6.0 AFTER you put in the Banks package (chip, pipe, gauges, tranny commander). I didn't realize Ford has a new tranny in the 6.0.

I've been thinking of crossing over to the dark side (GM). Man that Duramax is quiet. ANd I hear good stuff about the Allison tranny. Since GM can't design their own tranny and engine and had to get someone else to do it, they must be good. Too bad Dodge can't get someone to build a decent truck around the Cummins. Okay, will you guys still respect me if i went to GM? What do you think of them? sure don't see many used ones for sale. they got .9% financing too.

rescue, don't apologize for the actions of some greedy moron tow-truck driver. It can happen anywhere. we have several tow companies that bid on police work and they usually award all the work to 2 firms, and then they alternate days doing police tows. they charge a very fair rate to broken down vehicles on highway.

my buddy just emailed pics of our ride from this weekend. can't wait to post them.

Well well well. Confused, we'll just have to beat you down like the red headed step child that I am.

We'll have to see what time says about that new Powerstroke. It was just something that had to be done I guess.

Yes, Ford built a new tranny just for the Powerstroke. It's called the TorqShift. It's also available with the V10 next year in the new SDs. By one explanation I read, even though it says it's a 5 speed, it's actually a six speed due to some particular way it shifts or something. Maybe they or I am wrong on that issue. They do the multiple gear thing. Like locking 2nd and 3rd together.

That Cummins is a beautiful motor. Rumour mill has Dodge going to a Benz diesel when the Cummins contract is up (makes sense!) and Ford possibly telling International-Harvester to take a hike and using Cummins. They already use the Cummins ISB (essentially the one in the Dodge) in the F-650 and bigger (it falls between the 2 Powerstrokes and the Cat 3126B[now THAT is a motor...800lb/ft.)

Diesels are just too hot right now. One because people are turning back to them because of the power ratings and the fuel mileage/cost issues. Big block gassers aren't moving. One friend was offered an even trade. He has a '98 Dakota 5.2 Manual, standard cab, short bed. Offer was a '98 Ram 2500 4x4, standard cab, short bed, can't remember the tranny, with the 8.0 V10.

Confused, Hate to hear about your buddy there. Wish him and his famioy well. Can never tale things for granted.

You are rightThis is about trucks, atvs and everything in between

I think 2 of the 3 major players have a nice truck out there. You can pick things about all three trucks, that we all like or dislike. That's probably the only thing we all, really can agree on. Over-all I like the blue oval best. But, hard to dawg the other one. They looked at the market and address what they think the consumers wanted and environmentalist too. We have better engines and transmissions, that burn cleaner, safer fuel, run quieter and still give us the mileage and more power and torque. First year models usually have their share of problems. When you buy that vehicle, you should know this, and expect some problems.
Confused, enjoy what ever truck you get. Just remember, if we ever meet up, I'll be waiting for you at the top of the hillAnd you can't go wrong with Banks. I truly enjoy the package I have in my truckimg src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-happy.gif" border="0">BR>
BlackandRed, The new Duramax hasn't proven itself yet in my book. It is a good combination of engine and transmission. But, Chevy couldn't put a good package together, so, they went outside to two reputable businesses. They do have a nice package, but, I'm not sold on it yet. I have confidence in the new Ford package, and they had a nice package before it. And a nice package before that. They always seem to be making the powerstroke a better engine. Changing with the times and they are keeping up. I think GMC is still trying to catch up. And they couldn't do it on their own. Cummins is a nice engine, but Dodge just can't build a quailty truck to carry it.
Diesels are very hot, I remember around here 2 years ago, you good get one for around 36-38k. Now, they are 46k to 50k. You are getting a very nice truck, But heck, my house only cost a little more then thatUsed diesels around here, are still hard to come by, unless, it has 100,000 plus miles on it. Which really isn't a problem. It's just everything else that can go wrong with it. Let's hear itLt. Dan

Posted by: confusedbuyer

my post is a great big IF. reality, $$ will probably/ultimately dictate that I stick with what I have. or, spend a couple K to upgrade performance.actually, i have ZERO beef with the engine, it's the tranny that has me scared. can it handle the big power and steep grades with the big load? mine is an automatic, 4:10 gears. pics will post soon of truck and trailer with quads all loaded up.

Holy cow!! Where do I start? It looks like you guys have been busy talking without me. I'm a little bit out of the loop now.

Moab was great!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! My wife left with a smile on her face.BR>
Vacation recap: 20 miles of hiking at Arches National Park (talk about beautiful...and hot). My wife was about ready to kill me at about 16 miles. It was nice just to get out and be with a bunch of Euro-trash, I mean, European tourists. We also spent a day on the Colorado River (Westwater Canyon). Westwater Canyon has been called, the best day-trip in the West (11 rapids in 17-miles). Pictures will be posted as soon as I get them developed - hopefully tomorrow. Hot tub pictures anyone???? Oh, I just realized that Ready-Whip isn't just for hot chocolate.BR>
I really want to get my ATV's there. Slickrock looks fun. We plan on going back in the fall or next spring and stay in the trailer (much cheaper).

I don't know where to start to reply / bag on / humiliate everyone...

Hey Confused,

Sorry we kept on pestering you for pictures...you're one ugly dude!!!! I see you were out on a conjugal visit with your buddies. You didn't hump their legs did you? Now since your ugly mug is posted, all the chicks will gravitate to me. It's too bad you drove the two sisters away. I still think "The Sisters" is an old man sitting in his basement with a big gut, scratching himself. Oh, and you liked the beers and queers comment? I thought that was quite appropriate.

REI: it's a backpackers / paddlers / mountain bikers / climbers heaven. It's kind of a Cabella's without guns. Oh, they are building a Cabella's 40 miles from my house (Lehi, Utah).BR>
ATV problems: my sportsman 400 has been running rough for a while (burning rich). I thought it was a dirty needle jet or something like that. I took the carb apart and cleaned it really good, re-jetted it 4 times, installed a new pilot jet, cleaned the K&N air filter, replaced spark-plugs (several times - very sooty looking), adjusted the throttle cable (I had EFI problems)........I just ordered a needle jet, jet needle, spring, and associated parts. I guess I'll see how that goes.

My sportsman 500 was rolled a week ago and has a cracked master cylinder reservoir (a little JB weld and it'll be fixed), however, it revs really high now. I haven't had time to look at that problem yet.

Yeah, I think she's kinda perdy.

Is confused your soul mate?

now how would you link me and B&R ? Dan's my honey. And those weren't my riding companions, those were my prison-b!tches (oh, in the states, I believe the correct prison vernacular is,"those are my kids", right Lt. Dan?).
very relieved to hear you find me ugly. your type of people always scare me when they come on so strong (tranny-types in drag). that's why I added the beer gut. keeps them away.

I'm confused whitewater (once again the name fits)... you said Mrs. W left with a smile on her face, but I don't recall being anywhere near there and it couldn't have been you creating the smile after that 20 mile hike. Sounds like you've taken several heavyweight shots to the head (the Tyson in his prime type shots). Why? Okay, you take your beautiful bride on a well planned, romantic get away, no kids. Great so far. Then (you idiot!! ), you wear her out on a 20 mile hike/drag?? She'd be too tired to be cuddly later! Oh, stupid me... now i get it! You exercise her to the brink of exhaustion so you don't have to fight and wrestle to have your way. Very clever. I take back the previous comments. BUT, isn't that a little like necrophelia??BR>
as for the chicks gravitating to you, i can see that. apparently they dig the grandfatherly type; they feel grandpa can be trusted and they won't be worn out by them. whereas when they see a stud like me, a legend really, they know they'll be sore and worn out for a long time and it's very intimidating. not too mention they're afraid of discovering all the unused parts that will never get used again .

once again, I've offended most, so I'll leave now. my work here is done. Hey WW, you never even commented on me questioning my faith in Ford and suggesting a move to the dark side (GM). Has anyone driven both the Duramax and Powerstroke??Comments?

BTW, those were only temp photos so my closest internet pals could put a face to the yappy mug. i'll be changing soon. we had a great ride this weekend, and my pal just sent me some great shots he got.

what were you getting with the Z and what were you towing?

HA2, Around town, the two trucks were getting the same mileage around 15 mpg. On the Highway the same again, about 19 mph. I did get 22 mpg out of the f250 on a trip back home from Paso Robles using Chevron diesel. This was with no towing involved at about 68 mph. The big difference between the two comes when I'm towing my toys. I have 4 quads, 21 foot pull trailer, honda 5000 generator and all the camping gear, 1/2 the house for the 4 women in my lifetc. With my Z-71, I would stand the 2 big quads up in the back of my truck, I was getting 10 mpg. When I built the rack for the two big quads(last picture in my bio) my mpg went to 12. I can only think that the quads improved the aerodynamics. TheZ-71 had a hard time finding what coasting gear it wanted to be in, so, when I travel I-5 south or heavy head wind, I would put the trailer mode on. With the F250, I remove the camper shell. after loading everything, just like the Z-71, plus one more quad, My mileage is 15 mpg towing all this weight. When I had my Z-71, I had it weighed at a certified scale. Total weight of everything was approx. 12,500 lbsBig difference is also the power. With the Z-71, it was adequate for flat land, but going over the Cuesta grade, I was crawling, especially northbound. I hoped I never had to stop on the grade. Don't think I would get it going forwardsith the F250, It still has all the power I need in reserve. When I get on it, I'm doing 80 mph before I know it. It's great for getting me out of situations that I don't want to be around. If you need anymore, let me know, Lt. Dan

Looking at WW's wife, she looks to be fit herselfI think, she could take WW. But, you know what, I think he likes to be thrown around on the ground. And WW fits him.
To get seriousConfused, I haven't driven a Duramax myself, have a hunting buddy that has one. He likes it alot, he tows a 31 foot trailer to Oregon and says the Sierra cause him no problems at all. He can keep up with the pack at 80 mph.

Confused, Pictures are up and running. I bet mom was pleased with the way you were raising her son without her being there. Parental Supervision at it's bestI cringed when I saw you son riding up that ramp, for a little guy, he has some wabblesLike the picture of the river crossing. The areas your riding in look nice. What's the temperature, Is it hot and muggy with misquitoes buzzing around looking for some blood to suck?

Well, it's Zzzz time, type at you later. Lt. Dan

Posted by: confusedbuyer

yeah, the ramp is a little scary, but he's used to it. I walk beside in case of problem (none so far). the steep hill he went down on that ride was a lot scarier. often I back my quad onto ramp from home ( did I tell you that before?).

it was around 80-90 degrees. no mosquitos, no humidity, it's pretty arid just north of there.some pesty little black flies and a lot of cattle grazing the trails. our riding buddies were there for a day or 2 longer than us. They saw a bear and 2 cubs. one of the other people in the group/atv club were riding, husband doubling wife. he caught a flash of something and a bear came barrelling down a hill, hit his front tire, rolled over the front rack, and then took off.they had to go back for a change of underwear after that one.

the elevation is high (close to a mile), so it never gets that hot. man, does it snow there in the winter!! it's in the middle of a high mountain pass. driving is treacherous, but I'm told there's lots of snowmobile trails and they're supposed to be a lot of fun. there are 1-2 months of hot temps, the rest of the time it is mild or cool.

way too dusty this time. look at our faces for the beer shot. Oh, and lots of diesels around the parking lot

Posted by: HA2

i run a 03 1500 2wd stock with a z400 stood up and a 250r trike through the mountains to our deserts it got 17-18mpg. 10mpg is outrageous, our 454 dually got that through the grades to ocotillo from san diego. whew!

I just had to ask because im trying to buy a 15-17ft travel trailor and want to know what to expect.

Thanks for your reply!

Duramax? What in God's name are you looking at a Chevy for? Are you sick of a Man's truck? Do you like whimpy front independent suspension? Oh, I forget, Confusedbuyer is looking for "Comfort" and not durability.I understand now, you must not be going to take it off of the pavement. It's okay, I always knew you were a Rear Admiral in the queer brigade of the Great White North. Is that the "Legend" you were talking about? I can see it now...the personal ads read, "Confused Canucklehead seeks desperate Shemale."BR>
And Lt. Dan, where in the heck are pictures of your ugly mug? Are you hiding behind a helmet?

I heard that the new '05 Ford will have Ind. front susp. also.

Posted by: rescuediver

Confused, a littleI give him creditSounds like a cool place to ride. Sounds like some of the areas in the Sierras. Isn't it great when your out and about in nature, whether it's on your quad, foot, driving the back roads and you see nature in actiono me, that's what this is all about. Getting away from and seeing what majority of city dwellers don't. I bet your friends had to get a change of drawers. That's way too close, Hitting a bear with you quad and watching it roll over the rackimg src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-shocked.gif" border="0">I did see the darker face, I thought that was just your natural color, Or were you, following your friends to close, when they hit that bear and took their squirts in the faceBR>
HA2, your welcome, When you throw a trailer behind it loaded and all, I'm sure you will see a significant drop in mpg. And like I posted, my total weight was around 12,500. Lt. Dan

Ouch, WW, your riding the rear end of Confused awfully close and hard,re you sure your not looking in the mirror while postingutting your ways on Confused? And if he wants to jump ship and try out the feminine trucks in the world and not stick with The Manly truck, then let him. It is a free country. Hey, wait a minute, he lives in the great north. Confused, are you still free up there? Or, do they just tell you you areBR>I have to admit, I'm the one who is usually taking the picturesand when my picture is taken, it's while I'm on a quad. But, hey, if your hard up for a picture to put behind this keyboard, I'll try to find one of meut, it will beimg src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-shocked.gif" border="0">

Trasher, I heard the opposite. I heard even Ford's 3/4 T had gone to solid front axle, and they were getting away from the independent suspension.

rescue, we were all heavily covered in facial dust.I never saw the bear incident, the others were talking about it.

ww, pavement princess?? not me. you should come up to kamloops to see where we drag our 30' trailer. BUT, 90% is probably pavement driving. Okay guys, i get it. Forget the Duramax!! img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-shocked.gif" border="0">

ww, I'm tired of using my great wit and material on you and you keep consulting dodge boy to come back at me with the lame frat boy stuff. I heard you went into Brigham Young as a tight end, and came out a wide receiver. BR>OMG, now I sound like you! I'll have to start slamming myself to help you along with the process.

hey guys, look for me at turn 6. we went to Molson Indy (Champ car series) today, and that's were our seats are. HOT!! 101 degrees today (it NEVER gets that hot here). And scantily clothed women.. oh my. No good for you ww, then you can see they're not trannys and it takes away that mystique.

In all honesty, the Duramax is a good truck, not a great truck like the FORD, Powerstroke but, a good truck. If you want a proven truck that has been around for awhile, the Powerstroke is it. But, hey,it's your money and it's going to be parked in your driveway, not mineBR>Champ car racing, as I flip through the channels, I'll see if the Speed Channel has anything on it. Are you sure the heat wasn't just you over-heating from all the scantily clothed women around you? It has been around 100 plus here this week. Yesterday it was 104, today it was every bit of that. Thank you thank you. I'd like to first of all thank...

At least THIS time all the pictures are there on my page. This is like the second time in ohhhhhh....2 weeks I've been spotlighted. The last time was on July 16th according to the little love note that I got from whitewater. I wonder how they figure it out? Maybe it's on the KB of material posted to the forums. BR>
I used to raise hell in the Yamaha and Dunes forums. No, I have no idea what's going on in there. Spend my time here and the CA thread in Where to ride. Usually taking the side against two strokes. Wow, those were the days. I think people are intimidated now. That's where I got my name for long posts. Now I'm on to beating up on 1/2-ton truck owners wanting to pull doubles with 40' fifth-wheels weighing 20,000lbs and 16' 12,000 lb flat beds. Oh yeah, and they are using whatever the smallest block V-8 the manufacturer de jur is putting out. It doesn't have enough power so they think adding a supercharger, dropping to 10:1 rear axles, with overload springs is gonna cure it.

I think I about summed up some of the posts here. hehe. ok, they aren't that bad.

ok, enough with that. Back on topic.

I'm a Ford man, but this is getting rediculous. We just had our THIRD truck blow a plug out of the head. This time it was on a F-150 4.6L. The previous were a '99 Expedition 5.4L and a '99 Lightning 5.4L S/C. So if anyone has these motors CHECK YOUR PLUGS! And this last one just had the plugs replaced. I think it was about 3 weeks ago. The dealer did the Heli coil thing for free. I guess the first mechanic was on to something with low compression. Dealer changed the plugs (80K miles) and #6 coil. They should have checked that closer I think.

Talking to the service manager (I actually ride with him funny enough, he's a friend of a friend) it's not uncommon. The combination of the aluminum heads and the fact that the plugs are set in like 9/16 holes doesn't help. Just not deep enough threads I guess. Oh well.

Well that at least involved a Ford. No diesels. Only Ford Diesel we have is an '85 E-350 box van. Oh the joys of driving that beast. I think that's the 6.9L.

Oh, and I don't care what Ford says, the 302 IS NOT a 5.0L. It's a 4.9L. If you want to say 5 Liter that's ok. The displacement is less than 4.95L so it can't round up to 5.0L. I hope it was the guys in Marketing and not the Engineering.

Posted by: rolsmojave3

of course it was in marketing where else would such a mistake take place oh and for pics of the girls and wheelers i'll give you a hint I CAN'T RUN THIS THING but the girls are the 2 hottest ones at my school and they came to shop one day and started washing my Mojave now we hang out all day and night but we can't go riding all the time 'cause the town stopped from doing so but they still wanna go with me when i go but ones dad is a dirtbike rider and hates wheelers i am gonna marry her just like the shirt says

Love notes? Look in the mirror? BYU? Wow, I can finally start to feel the LOVE from you guys. Oh, and Dodge boy is in Montana for the week. The lame quips are all mine.

I went to Nascar in Vegas a few months ago - it was pretty good (I had free tickets). So Confused, have fun today...I get to go install a tile surround on my fireplace today (oh, boy). I've never done tile before so wish me luck. It started with new leather couches that didn't match the wall color, so I had to paint the walls, and my wife wanted me to install crown molding...and then... the ceiling fan didn't match the room anymore, so a new light, and now the tile doesn't match the couches or the new wall paint or the new light....I love how these projects seem to snowball....gees, my house is only 3-years old.

Got some pics from my Moab vacation - gotta love a disposable camera.

Oh, I've been meaning to ask you night owls a question: why in the hell are you up at 2, 3, 4 am? If you can't sleep, you can come over and wash my F-250 or make me a pair of shoes or something....

Posted by: BlackandRedWarrior

Up late? umm...well last night was Friday. Sometimes I either can't fall asleep, or am up chatting. Yeah, chatting is BAD. Very Very bad. But sometimes, a cute one will get on cam. I think rescue probably works into the night and that's why he is always posting late. Those late night posts are also usually my good ones too.

I barely wash my own, well company, truck. Why would I go to UT to wash yours? Wait...got any cute, single, FEMALE and LEGAL neighbors who would give me a hand? I hear UT is a big culture shock to people. Does look like some beautiful country up there though. Of course your wife could come out and help me, wait, that's not nice to say.

ok, short post from me. Yeah, really. No, really. No, I'm ok. Feeling just fine. Off to see the Borne Supremecy.

But, in person, I bet that there is a lot of excitement going on hear you about the house, Get used to it WW, it's a never ending processas matter of fact, tiling around the fireplace is on my list of honey duesThat dang list just keeps getting longer and longer.
Well, as far as being a night owl, yes, I have turned it to one. Only need about 4 hours of sleep to get through the day. As far as washing you truck, bring it over, what do you prefer? Brillo pads or 60 grit sand paper

BlackandRed, Twice in less then 2 weeksWho you paying offThat's to bad about the engine problems know what your talking about with guys, buying the wannabe power truck and towing everything they can put in the bed, trailer and cab. It's crazy. Before long, CHP will be watching what we are pulling down the road and actually start doing weight checks. Fines for being over-loaded can be in the thousands of dollars. Not to mention, it's just darn right unsafe

B&R, of course WW can help ya out with the woman scene, he'll just lend you one of his wives. Don't forget, he's in the state that allows multiple wives. WW, we definitely know which wife went with you on the romantic getaway, but who's the mean wife that expects all the work? I mean, it can't be the same person that you took away, that would show you her gratitude by making such unreasonable demands. You fell for the oldest woman trick in the book (next to "I do"). "Oh I promise dear, it'll only be paint".

I'm sure tile went well for you. small area like that is a good place to learn. the nice thing about tile is that if you're not working with a perfectly square area, you have wiggle room over a few courses of tile to fix it. the adhesive on wall is a little easier to work with than thinset.

Indy was great. They have 4-5 different races which includes Cascar ( a poorer man's version of Nascar), Indy-lights, and the local race scene. Now back on topic...... I really like checking out the pits and their cool trailer set-ups, mobile tools, etc.. They all have a quad or 2 to run errands, pull their tool boxes and tire carts to the pit-stop area, fetch extra parts. The trailers are incredibly cool. Too hard to describe, or this post would never end.

Actually UT (and the LDS Church) both frown upon the paligomy thing. It had to be outlawed before they were allowed into the union. It's just the sick weirdos who live away from everyone that do that thing.

I've done the tile thing is some friend's kitchen. It was cool.

Used to watch CART all the time. Back in the early-mid 90s. When the Ford Cowsorth B motor was the motor to have and only found in Newman-Haas cars (M. Andretti). THen he left for F-1 and Nigel Mansel came over and gave some lessons.

Posted by: confusedbuyer

too funny B&R, all the sick wierdos come to Canada for safe haven. Actually, I'll be more specific, they move to the Kootenays, which is the southeast part of our province, just above Montana.Three beautiful mtn. ranges in there. We've got bigamists there that are some type of throwback cult to good 'ol Brigham. I'm all for havin a couple of extra wives to help with cooking, cleaning, laundry,(might even teach 'em how to tune up my quad and wash it), but these guys are really sick perverts cuz they marry 14 y/o to add to the harem.eeewwww. And, the LDS may claim to denounce the practice, but considering it was a fundemental of their religion practised by their founder, I wonder how sincere that denouncement is/was. okay, we're into the religion discussion which is scary, cuz next we'll be talking politics.

back to the Kootenays. there are all kinds of dukabors and hutterite groups, and they've got groups of US para-military types training in the backwoods, waiting to overthrow the gov't. Right now, I'd say they could probably take over Canada, but they'll have a tougher time with the Uncle. the day I heard about 911, I thought it coulda been one of these types of groups (remember Timothy McVie?), but then the Taliban took credit.

returning to the light (topic) now. EVERY Champ car has a Ford-Cogsworth power-plant.they did this to level the playing field and to make it a driver's test, instead of an owner's test. Almost all have a Lola chasis. 2 had Reynard chasis. I thought it was hilarious/ironic that Dodge is the big sponsor and we saw a Viper pace car, and some new Chrysler product, BRT-4 (?), and all the drivers do a pre-race parade in shiny red Dodge trucks with Hemis yet all the engines are Ford in the race cars. It'd be mayhem if they were Dodge engines, all blowing apart on the track seconds after the race starts. Paul Newman and Wayne Gretzky rode together in a Viper convertible.

Okay guys, my butt is sore from your feedback calling me a quisling for thinking about Duramax. Logger cousin was down this weekend from the north, to see Cart race. he brought a new 6.0 Ford diesel crewcab/shorty. Nice truck. much quieter than mine. sunroof is cool. Heated power seats on both sides too. he got better mileage than my dually gets, but I don't know his gear ratio. It's a hard comparison to make. his was empty too. I do like the tow-haul mode on the gearshifter (an idea Ford stole from GM). when you brake on hill in tow-haul mode, it downshifts automatically. Also, apparently has built in exhaust brake (?), maybe it was tranny brake (?). Also, in the tow mode, it holds each gear a little longer before up-shifting. Probably a good option for dummies like me so we don't blow tranny.

I generally don't like buying any manufacturer's new technology until it's got a few years of testing and track record behind it. The 6.0 has only been out 1-2 years. my cousin borrowed the Ford and is still a Cummins fanatic.

All Ford F-250/350 diesels have 3.73s from the factory.

All those functions are part of the new TorqShift mated to the 6.0. Nice setup from what all I read.

Well it's off to bed. See ya later.

Posted by: confusedbuyer

In a dually, 4:10 gears WERE standard with the 7.3. On these 6.0L, are they putting in 3:73's in the dually? Can you order 4:10s?

now that we're on page 17 and post 327, is there a quicker way to get to the last post, other than continually moving ahead 3 pages at a time and waiting for the next screen to appear?

anyone interested in starting a new post like, "Ford diesel chat for frat boys"... or something like that? Of course, the frat is in honor of our pal and mentor WW.

Frat boy here. That would be Sigma Nu to be correct - would ya like me to tell ya the secret hand shake and sing a ra, ra song for you?

And yes, multiple wives is what it's all about!!!!! Too bad they all gang up on me and make me install tile, mow the lawn, take out the trash........By the way, the tile job is a pain in the a$$ - the dang wall isn't straight. I've put about 15lbs of mud on the wall to even it out, but its not quite good enough yet. However, the hearth was cake.BR>
I put up a couple new pics.

too funny ww, i was just checking your pics. they are a little cloudy, is that from disposable film quality, or from scanning from photo to disc?

that water looks pretty stirred up and brown. are there some pretty hairy spots? the Fraser River and Thompson river here have some great tours. guess I'm too much of a wuss, cuz some people from work wanted to set up a day for us to do it, and my wife and I weren't too warm to the idea. I just opened the door for you to come up with some witty and clever slams.

your wife looks exhausted and angry in the recent pics, maybe from the 20 mile drag?? Ah-ha!! That's why she's getting even with all the renos.

and the pocket rocket got me thinking. they were selling them at Indy for about $600.(US). BUT, it seems to me you can't ride 'em anywhere. street is scary and dangerous. no off-road tires. so where you gonna ride?

BTW, I'll post next time under "Ford Chat boys".. new thread. unless one of you guys wants to get it started.

New Thread "Ford Chat Boys".

Man don't you people read? Sheesh.

Ford Crew cabs w/7.3 Diesel Pages: 1 2 Last

That's on the forum topic page. Just click "Last" sheesh. Look in the where to ride....there's one thread over 10,000 posts. Yes 10,000! Maybe we can get this thread topic changed to "All kinds of weird stuff by The Ford DIESEL Boys." I think Trasher can as he started it.

And on the 3.73s, that's it. If you go to Ford's site and Build a Ford, that's all you get. Everything else goes unavailable. But I'm sure you could do them after market or have a dealer order them and install them. For instance if you happened to upsize your tires.

Hey BlackandRedWarrior, every so often the topic comes back around to the "Crew Cabs w/7.3 Diesel" topic. But hey, turning it into our 'private' little world ain't so bad - BR>
Oh, and I'm STILL not sure if I want to put the Superchips thing in mine. Seems like I read in more than one place that if your data port is not on the driver's side, the 1705 Superchip won't work. Know anything about that?

See how this works? We're back "On - Topic". But I am serious about my question.

The only chips I know about are computer (and even that's pushing it nowadays) and potato.

BlackandRed, My screen doesn't read "last" to get to the last topic. But, what I did find out is that if you press the arrows after page 7, it brings you to the last page. Is this what you meant? Now that I figured it out, I change my vote and so we stay here to get tha 1,000 post
WW, Didn't see the new fireplaceGetting tired of looking at your face on vacationI hear you about mud. My daughter and I built a backyard bbq. It's sweetI'll post pictures in the next couple of days. We are finally grouting it tomorrow(thank god)

Confused, the water looks that way because WW had washed away all his sinsThat water is actually healthy. That's how it has looked for literally millions of years. It's Mother Nature working her magicCreating more beautiful rock formationsAround here, pocket rockets go for $169$199. But, I agree, you can't legally ride them anywhere, except private property.

MrTommy, Welcome back. How was the road trip? I take it your trip to Ca. was a safe oneI don't know much about Superchip. Didn't know it made a difference on where your port was located. Is it because the module might not fit, where yours is at?

Mr. Tommy, I'm confused (again). The chip plugs into the end of the computer, which is located at the bottom left driver's foot-kick area. I don't know what they're talking about. if you're concerned about superchip, go with a brand that plugs into your computer. i think rescue and i have a similar one..., 60HP. I like it cuz you don't have to mod all the other stuff like exhaust, gauges, etc..

What year is yours? Ebay is a good place to look for the chip. Do a search for "powerstroke", you'll get tons of hits. Very easy to install.

Is WW on his own island now, at Ford chat boys?? I'll look and bring him back.

$169-199?? these can't be the same thing? Are they 48cc/2 stroke, shocks, etc? OR, are we talking electric toy?the ones i looked at were gas powered, like a mini-bike but built for road instead of off-road.

Posted by: MrTommy

Hey Confused... Mine is a 97. I've been on eBay and found (as you point out) bazillions of Superchips, and the one that is touted for mine is the 1705. But... MY data port (the computer hookup) is NOT on the driver's side but just right of center under the dash about two inches right of the center air conditioner port. Because of this, I'm hesitant to order the thing unless I have a "guaranteed" 30 day return policy so I can send it back if indeed it does not work on mine. And since I DO have all the 'appropriate' gauges installed, and the 4" exhaust, I'm all set, or so I hope. I do wish I had the intercooler that came out the next year after mine. I'm not prepared to put out the bucks for the Banks intercooler for mine, though I'd LOVE to have it.

Tommy, It does sound like Confused and I have similiar programs. Instead of taking your chances on e-bay. Go to a shop, pick their brains on what will work on your truck. After being satified with what will work. Play dumb. (If your anything like me, it shouldn't be to hard Then say you will think about it and leave. Look on e-bay and find it from a dealer that will back it up. By doing your homework(which it sounds like you are) before you buy it, you should have no problems with it being compatible with your trucknd I know what you mean about your '97 not having the intercooler. I drove a '97 model and knew I couldn't settle for it. There is a crap load of more power in the models with the intercoolersut, you are on your way. Just wait until you get the right chip for it. You will be amazedBR>
Confused, you actually started a new thread? You know, WW is probably carrying on a conversation with all his wives on it, right nownd he probably told all his frat boys, he had thread started in his honore'll probably refuse to come back now. His head is probably bigger then his armsLt. Dan

Mr. Tommy, now I remember. my Ford diesel mechanic pal used a special diagnostic tool to plug in under the dash, in the area you're talking about. It looked like a palm pilot or big calculator. He needed to check for some code, to tell the chip maker what programming my computer had, so they could send me the correct chip.I think they called it "flashing" the chip. It took him less than 5 minutes to do the whole diagnostic. The actual computer was in the area I described earlier, and that's where the actual chip gets installed.

my buddy lives 3 1/2 hours away, and told me to get the diagnostic done locally, and he'd order the chip. I called 3 different Ford dealers and quoted exactly what my pal said to tell them. None of them had a clue what I was talking about. I'd recommend asking a diesel performance shop. Maybe tell them you can get it off ebay, but you want them to do the install?? OR, can they match the price? With competition being what it is, they might want your business.

what was the first year they used an intercooler? I have a 1999 which is the new body style with some changes over the '97 7.3 engine, but I didn't think mine was intercooled. was that a standard feature?

Posted by: rescuediver

Confused, If your truck is a 1999, it should have the intercooler. Heres a blip I found doing a research in truck world "The 1999 Super Duty F-Series trucks feature new 5.4-liter TritonTM V-8 and 6.8-liter TritonTM V-10 engines, and an improved intercooled 7.3-liter diesel engine." Ford skipped the 1998 model year on the F250 and up to improve the truck. But, check your manual just to make sure. But, I'm pretty sure, you should have it.

Posted by: MrTommy

All of what you say sounds right, Confused. The only thing is, I'm not installing a 'new' chip. I only want to re-program the existing chip, which is what the Superchip Mini Tuner does (plus read the codes, as an added bonus). The ads for these things tout "Needs no tools", "Done in under ten minutes", "Put it back to stock in the same time", yada yada yada...

This whole thing started when I stopped in a local diesel 'specialty' shop in Reno and he told me about the chip. Said he would even plug one into my truck and take me for a test ride just to show me how great this thing was. I could do it right then! 'Cept I don't commute in my truck (I use a well-worn 83 Honda with 230,000 miles on it that gets 36-39 mpg...) so I had to pass. He would install the guages, 'install' the Superchip re-program, and make sure I knew how to use it, and understand what the guages meant. However, he was not cheap! So I had my local and trusted mechanic install the guages. HE was not cheap either, but he was uh, less expensive. The Reno guy is wanting about $450 for the Superchip Mini Programmer (if my memory serves me right), which is considerably more than many on-liners or eBay. But, he would make it work or not sell it to me, the way I see it. I'm SO confused... I should be using that name - not you BR>
And I agree with Rescue on the intercooler thing. Ford just skipped the '98 year as far as their heavy duty line, and when they surfaced in '99, there was the intercooler. Seems like I always get my stuff jusssssst before some new inovation comes out. [Just like finding out that the new 2005 Arctic Cat 400's will have the nifty digital instrument pod AND a lever activated front diff lock. Ours are 2004's...].

Actually, that sounds kind of fun - I've never base jumped before. Oh yeah, I forgot, confused and his wife are too afraid of adventure, so he wouldn't be interested in base jumping. I'm going to lunch now, but I'll be back to entertain you all (I'm kind of like the court jester).

The camera that I used on the river had water / muck on the lens. The main rivers in Utah (Green and Colorado), are quite turbid, especially when it rains. Some of the mountain creeks / rivers are clear, but not the deep gorge rivers. They cut into the sandstone, etc. and carry sediment out to the pacific (does the Colorado even reach the Pacific anymore?). The trip we just took had class III and IV rapids on it (whitewater is classified from class I - V; I beng the smallest rapid and V being almost unrunable). We are going to do Cataract Canyon next year (class V in high water), and I can't wait. I used to Kayak, but haven't for a long time - I think it's time to pick it up again. If any of you haven't been on a whitewater trip, you really should do it - it's an adrenaline rush!!!!

Yeah, the wife got a huge blister on her toe and wasn't up to anymore hiking after the BIG hike. However, we did hike a few more miles and she didn't complain (too much).

The pocket rockets are legal in Utah - they are classified the same as a motorized scooter. They allow you to ride on a two-lane road posted <25 mph; they must have adult supervision, and they must wear a helmet. The 47cc that my 11 year old rides, was $300. It doesn't have suspension, but it's for pavement only. He took it on a camping trip and the dirt road beat the crap out of him.BR>
I really want to get a chip for my truck. I would like a chip that you doesn't require a 4" exhaust upgrade, cuz I don't plan on keeping the truck, but would like more POWER for the interim.BR>
The fireplace project is going slow. I hope to get the tile cut and installed on the wall tonight. I hope to be finished with the project by Thursday or Friday. Then, I need to build a new back porch, work on my ATV's, fix a light on my ATV trailer, clean my garage, beat the dog, checkout Dancingqueen's photo page, touch-up paint around the house, build a sandbox for the kiddies, re-coat my 5th wheel roof, checkout Dancingqueen's photo page again, harass you guys, .... gees, no rest for the wicked.

IIRC 1998 was the first year of the current Super Duty body style. Before they were "Heavy Duty" and the Ford Superduty was actually the F-450 (we have a '94. 460 Gas. First year for the Powerstroke and was only available with a 5 speed manual.)

I believe in 1999.5 model year updates were done on the 7.3L PSD. This was probably when they added the intercooler. That's the final incarnation of the 7.3L PSD. Powerstroke01 knows a bit more about them than I do. Maybe he'll chime in on the thread.

The mechanic friend was only checking the flash level in the EPROM for the ECU (or whatever they are calling it.) "Flashing" is when they actually reprogram the EPROM. Not when some chick shows. Don't ask digruntled 6.0L PSD owners about dealers flashing them. They got free oil changes so Ford could flash the ECUs without the owners permission/knowledge. And they won't move them back a revision if it jacks things up. The small electronic tool is just a Scan Tool. It picks up and displays the codes from when you get a CEL (Check Engine Light) that tells the mechanic what's wrong with the vehicle. It also allows them to reset the code so the CEL doesn't show again unless it's another error.

WW, I've recovered a drowning victim from the base of a class V waterfall. It was awesomeI was scared at firstbut, when I could recover from the low end dam effect.I went right to the base. It was great. My greatest dives have been while I was on our dive teamUsed to run the Stanislaus River and Tuolumne River. Last time I rafted the Stanislaus, I was in a Zodiac doing river rescues. Again, one of the great perks of being a boating safety officer and swiftwater certifiedimg src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-happy.gif" border="0"> Base jump, hhmmm, I'm thinking about someday doing a parachute jump with the wife. Funny, the Army tried to get me to jump out of perfectly good airplanes and I refused, not once, but twice. I was one of very few legs(non-jumpers) with an Airborne Company. Now, I'm thinking about paying someone to push me out of an airplaneI also enjoyed rapelling
If your thinking about a chip. You can put a 60 hp chip in it and you should (will)be alright without the exhaust. My brother just put the 60 hp, "edge" in his '02 F250 and hasn't changed anything else yet. When you sell the truck, remove the chip, the truck reprograms itself back to factory settings. If the chip doesn't fit in your new truck, then sell the chip on e-bay . Tommy, this would work for you tooBR>
I don't think Ford made a F250 and above in 1998. Of course, I could be wrong, (wife tells me all the time I am Anyways, All I know for sure is, I drove a 1997 F250 diesel and about died when I felt the lack of power compared to the intercooler model.

Daughter and I finished grouting the new BBQ we built. It sure did take us long enough. Almost 2 monthsBut, it's looking good. I'll post pictures in a few days. I still need to make 2 drawers for it. WW, your honey-do list looks very similiar to mine. Your wife probably took the same class as mine, Wife 101 with a minor in honey-do lists

hate to brag guys, but mine's way,way BIGGER (the list i mean). yes ww, I have ZERO interest in your adrenalin junkie junkets. BASE jumping is an acronym for Building, Antenna, Span, Earth. antenna is like a radio tower, span is bridge, earth is like a cliff. what? you get it? sorry. BTW, 3 of the jumps are illegal in most places. but being the rogue extremist you are, I'm sure that will only encourage you. BR>
I realize now since you can't even come close to outwitting me, you've resorted to insinuating I'm a yeller chicken because i won't engage in the extreme adrenalin sports. That's how I've survived this long. Yep, those 9 American tourists were sure brave when they went on a whitewater rafting adventure on the Elaho River near Squamish/Whistler. They went through a section called the Devil's Elbow and 5-7 died. It was about 10 years ago (roughly). The whole industry got raked over the coals for that one (as they should have). I mean no disrespect to the deceased, it was a real tragedy. I just hope none of them got shamed into a situation they didn't want to be in cuz of one buddy's insistence, and then paid the ultimate price (you guys know what I mean?).

I think I might be able to handle something a little more liesurely but I don't need to prove anything to anyone. And I've learned not to get shamed or goaded into things I don't feel comfortable doing. I can handle the shaming and being called names. I guess I made up for it playing hockey, lacrosse, football and rugby. Come to think of it, i used to be such a skinny little runt back then, i got pummelled in all those sports (when they could catch me)img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-wink.gif" border="0"> .

okay, now clarify something here guys. Are there only 5 classes of rapids for the purpose of actually trying to go through them? My buddy is a Forester and sorta like ww. I remember him giving me a description of the varoius levels. he got to the last 1 or 2 and said no one could do them. I remember he said one class was considered, "certain death". Am I drunk again, cuz I'm sure i remember that "certain death" definition.

hey, I saw the Colorado river when we were in Laughlin,Nev. Pretty place. But you're right, i believe those @#$% rotten Californians have a master plan to drain it.

hey ww, boyfriend (rescue) is correct about the 60 HP chip. No other mods needed. One suggestion on that: secure it with Red Green's (another legendary Canadian) favorite tool : duct tape. I found on all the rough roads we go on, it shakes a wee bit loose, hardly noticeable except the performance gets really wierd like stalling at 20mph. Put duct tape around chip in both directions, and it holds it in place. And you can easily remove it if you need to and vehicle reverts back to normal operation.

wow, those are pretty cheap for the rockets. As usual, we're like cows being led to the slaughterhouse here in Canada. just don't know any better, so we go along with whatever. I guess that's the price of universal healthcare.

BTW pal, i was with ya on the new forum but we got out-voted by the masses. But if you do jump off the cliff, just promise not to use a chute and i'll video and get ya on one of those "ya gotta see this " shows. rescue can be on scrape patrol.

Hey, not all of us Californians are like that. It's the damn people from SoCal. Let's see...let's build a big a** city that really doesn't have a water supply...hmmmm...bright. Same with Frisco. Damned up a valley in Yosemite (Hetch Hetchy Res.) and move water across the state. The Valley here mainly uses a ton of water to grow food, damn farmers. Oughtta shoot em all I say. j/k. Wait...I think DQ's papa is a farmer/rancherdairyman. It's funny when the CA Acquiduct has more water flowing south to LA than the San Joaquin River does up here. I went to Los Banos yesterday and there wasn't any water at 152. I guess there might have been some at 99. Those are highways for our foreign or non-CA friends. Rescue should be familiar with them.

This thread has turned into our own private little thread almost. LOL.

Actually,

Whitewater rapids are rated, based on relative difficulty, on a scale of one to six. Class I is the smallest of rapids and waves, and Class VI the extremely difficult rapids. The classification or rating of a river varies considerably with fluctuating water levels. Although higher water levles normally increase the difficulties of rapids, higher water occasionally covers rocks sufficiently to wash out rapids. Conversely, some rapids become more difficult at lower water levels because more rocks are exposed.

Class I
Very small rapids with low waves, slow current, no obstructions.

Class II
Fairly frequent rapids of medium difficulty, few or no obstructions.

Class III
Difficult, large, irregular waves up to four feet, numerous rapids. The course requires some maneuvering of the raft.

Class IV
Very difficult, long, extended rapids that require careful maneuvering of the raft. Powerful irregular waves and dangerous rocks are common. The course is hard to determine and scouting is necessary.

Class V
Long and violent rapids. Large waves that are unavoidable and irregular. Extremely difficul
