She couldn't even do that quietly.
I've seen movies where they're noisy at it... sure looks fun when they're noisy. still hard to understand a whole lotta words tho. sounds more like gargling with mouth wash. well, i guess it is a mouth wash of sorts.

LMAO. You don't know many do you? Only time I've been straight up propositioned online was by a Mormon Girl. Wait...she was being baptised in like 4 days so I guess technically she wasn't... Took a bit of talking to her to drive home the point of...if it's not ok to do it after Sunday, is it really OK to do it on Thursday? I figure if you're gonna make a big deal out of practicing or believing in something, do it. Don't be a damn hipocrit. I've known too many "Good Christians" that are THE biggest hippocrits I've ever met.
They (Mormon Girls aka Naughty Little Mormon Girls) just have that outward appearance of being sweet, nice and pure. But deep down, they are freaks. Maybe not THAT deep.
Plus you have to watch out for those Catholics...they don't like to use the birth control....bad bad bad bad bad. I know one girl, hell woman, she's in her 30s. She's a devout Catholic and only uses the rythm method...and she's not married. Sorry, I don't see the freaking logic in that. I guess birth control is more of a sin than sex out of marriage. I figure if I'm gonna do something that's gonna make me go to hell(1), might as well do it up right!
(1) One must believe such things will actually happen in the first place.

No, that's not wifey's name...it's a book in the old testament. And yes, Utah has some very goodlooking women (large scandanavian population). And not all Mormon chicks are prudes (believe me, I know).
Oh, and why is ned talking about throat yogurt? Is he craving some?
Posted by: OneFlyCowboy
Yeah i dunno about them mormon girls. All the ones i know and or knew were uptight. although i had this hot lil mormon gal that used to come visit me at work and try to convert me and answer all the questions and bein a preachers kid i can throw out some wicked bible questions and request her to answer them. finally i got her stumped and she musta been sayin how much she liked visiting with me cuz her husband started commin out too and well he was easy to get all flusterd and confused. I miss my mormon girl The bosses Wife ran her off

I guess I'm the only one workingOver in AZ enjoying a littlesnow storm here in Prescott. Pretty cool
Don't get that much in San DiegoBR>
We are going out but only for two daysBetter than nothing.................
Posted by: BlackandRedWarrior
At least there's less than 2 days left of work for the week. I can use a short week. Now just to figure out where to ride. May day trip it to Pismo and hook up with MD. Not sure though. We shall see what the weekend brings...
Posted by: Whitewater
I'm heading to Southern Utah tomorrow evening (in-laws). We'll stay there until Sunday, but no riding. However, there are lots of trap to shoot.
Posted by: OneFlyCowboy
Have fun andf safe trips you boys that are traveling
HOSS what about this trap shootin? Do you guys have Sporting Clays tournaments around there? 100 targets at 20 - 50 stations? you can shoot a max of 125 shots. although i have never shot more than 100 shots on a 100 clay round. I have an over under for that stuff. and its fun as all hell. hmmmm maybe they have one this weekend that sounds like good times
Posted by: Whitewater
We just go out and shoot for fun (with a hand thrower). My boys try to hit them with a red rider.
Posted by: OneFlyCowboy
HOLY CRAP our gun club has a 200 shot course now. SON OF A BIATCH talk about a sore arm at the end of the day. and thats gotta be about 10 miles of walking.
Posted by: Whitewater
We just go out in a field or on top of a hill and throw them. I'm not the best of shots, but it's still fun.
Posted by: OneFlyCowboy
Im a decent shot. my best round was 86 outta 100 but there are some tough shots out there. I think we are gonna go this sunday probably. since ya reminded me Its a great time. Plus there are lots of hot chicks shootin guns.

This reminds me of when we've talked about crime and punishment types of things
Robbery retaliation.

Hell yeah thats my kinda justice. although Id have shot them all before they got out of my drive way. you dont hold a gun to my head and say your gonna rape my daughters and get off the property alive. Oh hell no. thats 4 dead Hoodlums(edited) layin in the yard. then after i shot them for good measure i would run them all over and break every bone in their body to ensure no one gets to the hospitol and healed. Cuz honestly if your such a POS that you are robbing people there is no place in prison for you, you deserve to die at the hand of the victom.

Hey guysJust thought I'd drop in and say helloWife had to work today, so I came back to get her. Pismo's been great, mid 70's and sunny all day, with no windNew quads running greatalk to you laterD

hey toyo, we agree! wish the guy woulda done society a service and killed all 4 POS. the real problem is a society that sees a problem with a guy defending himself and would even consider charging him: you try the crime, you pay the ultimate fine. how many POS would try to rob someone knowing they might pay with their worthless life?
a snowstorm in AZ???? couldn't have been too bad. I was just up North. had to drive in a snowstrom , about 6" at least stuck. it was hard to tell, i was driving active, radio controlled logging roads. these are in the middle of nowhere and dangerous. only slammed into one snow bank (about 3-4' high). up there, the very next person to come along (15 minutes later) stops and pulls ya out. nobody driving by and pretending they can't see ya. i was at a 140 man logging camp. these are the most remote living quarters you'll see, almost like a prison. but really cool how they set it up.
Posted by: Trasher
Nay, just snowed from 7am til about noon. Pretty cool since I get to see it snow in So. Cal much
Posted by: confusedbuyer
it only snows maybe 1-2 times a year in Vancouver, and it doesn't last more than a week. rain always washes it away. BUT...... go north or to the interior and it can just blow you away, especially at elevation. the logging roads get way smoother cuz all the washboard and potholes get filled with nice compact snow, and it smooths them out. i was talking to my wife's cousin last night (he lives up north and drives logging truck and skidder). he says sometimes overnight they'd get 30-40 inches. i told him he meant centimeters, and he said, NO, INCHES. he'd have to use skidder to pull truck, because it was over the top of the hood of the PU.
but hey, i thot AZ was a HOT, arid desert?? so snow there is probably even more remarkable.
Posted by: confusedbuyer
oh, and to get back on topic... it always blows me away when i'm up north to see so many PSDs, Cummins, Duramaxs relative to the # of people and other vehicles. they are like every 5th vehicle. and saw lotsa guys with sleds, and lotsa guys with quads on decks like mine. depending where you are, you can do both right now, but soon snow will be too deep (for quads, duh!).
Posted by: BlackandRedWarrior
Actually the high deserts in So Cal can get pretty dang cold this time of the year. A friend near Palms Springs got snow last week as well.
I seen a guy today with a sled on a bed over deck on a 4x4. I don't know...I wouldn't be riding it up to load it! Though it was a nice setup...it had a protect rack thing that went across the back window to keep from putting a ski through it. And I've never seen so many dirt bikes in the back of trucks as I did today. Holy cow. This is the big weekend for people to head out to Pismo. Seen at least one person was going there (had a paddle on an MC). Not sure about the rest.
I think we are do for rain this weekend so I may be staying home. I don't have chains and no 4x4. And the snow level is supposed to come down as well.

We get snow here about once every 30 years (that sticks). We've gotten it a little bit 2 times that I remember, but it didn't even stick on the ground. Last time was the first day on my current job...darn near 6 years ago. And since the last time it really stuck my mom was in high school, I think we are about due for a nice snow job....err...snow storm.
Posted by: confusedbuyer
when we get our annual week of snow, it is chaos. we have many new drivers from Asian countries that have never seen snow. hell, just put a windshield in front of their eyes and they're blinded!! we have many ill-equipped losers with bald racing slicks for tread, no weight in the trunk of their '76 Camaros. it's entertaining to sit back and watch these people cause total grid-lock, or to play bumper-cars and then feign disability for the rest of their scam-artist lives.
Posted by: Whitewater
Howdy FBK! It's 20 outside, snowy, 40 mph winds (feels like 0). I just spent 5 hrs today driving 230 miles in a blizzard with total gridlock, and about 30 cars and trucks off the road. A couple vehicles were wrong side up (hope nobody was killed). Oh, and when I got home to plow, my 500 had a dead battery. Oh well, it looks like the wind is doing a fine job of clearing my driveway. I hope everyone (except Confused) had a nice Thanksgiving holiday. So confused, did you get all giddy to see all of those burley men at the logging camp?BR>
How's the driving Mr.Tommy?
Posted by: confusedbuyer
hoss, if ya covered 230M in 5h you averaged 46MPH, probably faster on Hwy. you must be a real lead-footed hot-head maniac, cuz in the bad snowstorms I've been in, you don't wanna go more than 40... MAYBE 50 mph. probably less. and that's really pushing it. you were toy-less this weekend huh?
the logging camp was interesting, a lot like a prison. i was in and out same day.
Posted by: OneFlyCowboy
Confused they dont have the same kinda snow. I think ya get better traction in snow out there than pavement. Stuff like glue most the time. Its not the nw crap that i still drive like a maniac in. My truck dont steer unless your slidin in 4wd with it floor boarded and roostin people I love flyin down the road and hittin a big ol pile of slush and plasterin pedestrians. man thats sooooo when i used to go snowboarding everyday I would climb the pass in blizzard conditions at 80-90mph (lil front wheel drive cars with studded tires) but commin down the hill its a slow go cuz ya cant stop
Posted by: Whitewater
We get all kinds of snow (icy, slushy, mucky, etc.). It just depends on temp, etc. I know a guy that took 8 hrs to go 300 miles yesterday (same road I took).
So I go to start the truck this morning and no luck. I took the day off and did some chores, had a neighbor jump the truck and took it to Les Snob to get the ball joints changed...which took them all damn day long. I also had them look at the batteries to see if they were good (they said they were alright, but I'm not so sure). My truck acts like I'm not getting much juice. Also, the drivers side battery has a red dot in the little round window. I went to the Diesel Stop Forum and I think I need new batteries.
The guy at Les said I need to look at the GPR, but I changed it out a year ago.
Any advice?

glow plugs are okay?? sometimes in the AM/cold mine will be a little stubborn. i just double-glow plug it. (turn it on, then wait until the "wait to start light" goes out, then turn it off and on again, until the light goes out again, then start it. It chugs and coughs a little right now cuz i still got 15W40 oil. i should change to 10W30. Does any 10-30 work, or is there a special formulation for diesel?? I do see some 10-30 cans say "diesel" on them, but is that just the same oil in a can with "diesel" on it? It's more $$, and they don't sell it in the 5 gallon pails.
well we had some wet snow today. never stuck, except my windshield had slush on it. my 9 y/o has snow-plow contracts lined up for 3 houses on the street. I still haven't taken my plow or mounting hardware outta the box. last year i finally got it after we had our 1 annual snowfall. in the old days, it got so cold here, the Fraser River froze. hasn't happened in over 30 years. plus we get nowhere near the snow we used to get. who says global warming is all BS???
Hoss, it's easy for them to either load test your batts, or use a hydrometer on each cell to see if they're okay. so if they checked and said they're okay, i wouldn't be in a hurry to waste $$ on new ones. OR, get a Batt shop to check them.
Posted by: BlackandRedWarrior
You do need the diesel oil. Should be in your owners manual which grade you should run based on the temperature. I know diesel oils have different grading system (like the standard API or whatever it is for gas motors.)
Posted by: rescuediver
Hoss, If the truck started after getting jumped and the batteries are "good" then what was the initial problem this morningBR>
I noticed this morning it was coldto darn cold7 degrees and the PSD started a little weirdut, I associated it with the colder weather outsideWe get snow on avg. every 7 years. But it doesn't stick eitherLast good snow storm I was in, was Chicago 1979Had to climb out the front window to shovel out the front door to leave.
Posted by: rescuediver
Skinner, missed you at Pismo. Weather was great to Sat. then a storm blew in. It helped a little on the dunes, but not enoughHad to tear the 160's carb apart, throttle needle was getting stuck and no fuel making it into the carb. After that, they all ran greatife rode the Z400 and after 30 seconds, told me she loved itnd, I wasn't getting it backuess it's time to sell the 400L and get a new Z400 for myselfand give her the '03 oneBR>
Batteries on the trailer worked all weekand still show a full chargen the down side, wind blew the door out of my daughter''s handnd took out a window on the trailerow, it really looks like a okie rigdue to the duct tape holding on card board.

Sorry to hear about the misfortunes MD. Yeah, I didn't make it out riding ANYWHERE this weekend. I was gonna head up the hill, but that flippin storm came in. Without 4x4 I didn't want to venture up there. Last weekend that freak windstorm brought down trees across the access road going in. We'll have to hook up sometime. I've been thikning I may head up to that new cycle park up by you that is supposed to be opening up just to have a look around. Probably just a road trip, sans the bike. We'll see. IIRC, the grand opening is this weekend right?
LJ is working up at a ski area so he's not going to be riding for the season.
Posted by: BlackandRedWarrior
MD, I was sitting here thinking about you letting the wife ride the new bike... I was thinking (I'm on hold with Dell Support...boss' grandaughter spilled a soda on the keyboard...ate the tracings!) ...WHY DID HE DO THAT? Then I realized...you're doing the stealth upgrade mission. Get her hooked on the power of the Z (like a crack dealer gives out freebies). She takes a hit, gets hooked. Then you spring the plan. YOU get a new bike. Nice. Good work. Just hope she doesn't say "Oh but honey, that one right there is YOUR bike. *I* get the new one." As she smiles...realizing she just foiled your plan.
Oh and DAMN it's cold! Was about 30 this morning. Yeah yeah I know...that's not cold...but it is here for us.

i wanted 10-30 for the winter. is this 10-40, or straight 40 (man, that'd be THICK). is it approved for diesel????do they sell a 10-30 for diesels at costco? i'll check out the costco to see if they have it. it's really funny how different some of the costcos are in different areas. in the north (Prince George) they've carried stuff for snowmobiles and camping that we never see here on the coast. come to think of it, ALL the costcos are a zoo right now for shopping. Bah-humbug is coming soon.
Hoss, can you buy your spoiled little brats some extra gifts this year in recognition of us poor canadians that don't have enough $$ to get our brats anything? yep, looks like I'll be cutting a hole in their pockets again, just so they have something to play with!
Posted by: Whitewater
Well, I plugged the truck in last night and she fired up this morning. Brrrrrr....it was -3 this morning. I run Rotella T (full synthetic) in my PSD, but would really like to put a synthetic in my tranny...Mobil 1?
I'm going to do a couple more things to see if I need to fork out $200 for new batteries. I just think that one of my batteries are shot. I hope it's not a glow plug.
And yes, I was at Costco yesterday and that place looks different every time I go there. I think they rapidly turn over their stock. Oh, my wife bought my Christmas present yesterday.img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-happy.gif" border="0">

Chevron Dello 400 is Chevrons dino-based oil for diesel motors. It's probably the most popular of the dino oils. Been around for ages I think. Rotella is Shell's brand.
OK, I'm gonna cheat, LJ says they run Rotella dino.
Not sure what they have available for weights. The local Costco in Clovis carries Dello 400 as well. Not sure what weight. Never paid attention to it. Just seen it.
Posted by: OneFlyCowboy
Yes confused Cheveron Delo 400 is the oil and you can get it in whatever weight you want. if your lookin for cold weather oil 10W-30 is prolly good.
"DeloŽ 400 Multigrade Heavy Duty Motor Oil 15W-40 Performance
First oil to allow the diesel engines of the three leading U.S. manufacturers to run for over 1,000,000 miles without an overhaul. "
have used delo 400 in the Caterpillars and the dumpy has 500k miles and the motor is still mint and the excavators the lil one had 14,000 hours when we pulled the engine last winter and ended up just replacin a couple gaskets and puttin it backtogether everything was still within spec.
Posted by: OneFlyCowboy
ya know whats funny about that sh!t, its more expensive to buy in a drum from a wholesale distributor than by the gallon jug at costco. WTF is up with that?
Posted by: rescuediver
Skinner, the grand opening is Dec 5th. You going? I might, the kids are going to a Christmas party and Imight head there while they are at the party. Let me know.
Yea, the wife might say the new one is hersut, that's alrightI can live with it. She deserves a new ride just as much as I doer quad is a tank compared to the Z400That bike is awesome. I rode a raptor at Pismo tooIt definately has powerWhat I noticed between the two is, the response on the Raptor is; it's not as responsive and it is heavier up front. The 400 is so light up front and the throttle response is immediate
Posted by: rescuediver
Rotella is Shell's brand. I cheat and just take mine to the local Ford dealerIt costs me $50 for a full service oil change. Don't have the time to get under the truck and fiddle with it know the Costco stores around here, do not carry the same brands and like Hoss said, the turn over is high, if, you see it and want it, you better buy it. It might not be there, next time you visit the store
Posted by: rescuediver
One of the other things I found out while at Pismo. I couldn't find after market wheels for the 160 to put sand tires onSo, I tried blaster wheels(heard they would fit with a little modification) WRONG. Wasn't even close. Then, we took spindles off a Suzuki 250 and walla, they fitNow, I need to see if the spindles off my 400 will work. If they fit, I'll buy new spindles and tires. That way, if I sell the 160, the tires will fit my 400
Posted by: BlackandRedWarrior
Now THAT is some thinking MD. Make it fit. Kinda what my friend's boyfriend had to do with her frankenstein Blaster. The Blaster has one part of the rear brake (either the caliper or the disk) is floating, while the opposite part on the Banshee is floating. Several stacked washers later on the mounting bolt for the Blaster caliper and it's all ligned up and functioning.
Luckily the Warrior/Raptor350, Banshee and Raptor 660 all share the same bolt pattern so rims are easy to come by.
Posted by: confusedbuyer
clearly that was beyond your scope of imagination MD, so who told ya about the cool trick?img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-happy.gif" border="0"> so the 250 hubs fit on the 160 axle, which allows you to use blaster wheels?
i don't like shell or any of their products. their octane is always a little under the actual rating, they had some fuel additives that clogged injectors. i just stay away from them.
Posted by: OneFlyCowboy
Diesel wise its all CFN so whatever CFN is usin thats whats in the trucks and stuff. Gasoline I used to only run texaco but shell bought the station rights and Chevron bought the name and the some other crap so since the dismissal of texaco i have used Shell in my commuter and its fine. I get gas from a couple differnt stations and i use the same pump everytime. I also use 1 tank of chevron on monday mornings. so its a 1 tank chevron 2 tanks shell a week I wont use arco or 76. i got a tank of water one time from a 76 station and you burn me once i never patronize your establishment agin and i throw poo bombs at your establishment and put poo in your money tray and mail slot. SONS OF BIATCHES!!!
Oh sure take the creative credit MD! i said sompin about tryin differnt hubs many pages back also if that guys rap you rode didnt have right now throttle response it was setup wrong cuz man you touch the throttle on my and its right now and its gone.
Hoss this should make you happy. Im lookin at gettin a Polaris Sportsman 700 MV (Military Vehicle) it has dual winches and dual tanks, a massive pig but one hell of a recon vehicle.
Posted by: Whitewater
So Festus is finally wising up, eh? That's almost a jeep. You must be putting it to work on the farm. My new bike is at the stealership until Christmas (they are hiding it for me, um...I mean hiding for my wife and kids to give me).
Posted by: OneFlyCowboy
yeah that polaris MV is a monster. I would rather have a Rhino or ranger for the farm. i want the MV for a winter trail quad. i was thinkin a grizz or kodiak with dual winches but hell that thing comes with em and 2 gas tanks you gotta have some range on that bad boy!!! I would turn it into a crawler unpin the sway bar and what not. no need to go fast on it since i have a raptor for goin fast.
You so dam lucky. i wish i had a wife that would buy me a quad for christmas. sheesh. im thinkin about gettin my mom a 60" widescreen for christmas.
Posted by: BlackandRedWarrior
On the ChevronTexaco - Shell thing...
Chevron & Texaco merged. The Texaco name for retail outlets (the gas stations) actually had nothing to do with Texaco. They licensed the name out to some other company who then did the franchise thing. Since the new company didn't want to "compete with it's own name" that all went away and I'm assuming that Shell bought franchising company.
Company I work for only has Chevron and Shell (it was Texaco...) the two most expensive fuels around. Wait...most expensive goes to 76.
As far as oil goes we go to a lube shop around the corner. They use Penzoil in bulk unless you request something else. When the diesel van we have goes in, it gets Delo 400 of whatever grade it needs. We pay about $20 for 5 qts (10%+/- fleet discount...and they give it to me on my personal car as well. . The F-150s (4.6L) usually add an extra qt. at about $2 I think. The F-450 we have some kind of multi-weight oil we get in 1 gallon containers. I was to say something like Shaefer's. Not sure. It's been like 3 or 4 years since the one time I had to take it over and get the oil changed.

Chevron texaco shell thing -
I had a texaco card and its now a shell card Shell obtained all north american credit customers and retail outlets if the franchise owner wished to switch. if they didnt want to switch they are allowed a 5 yr grace period on the texaco name at wich time they will have to get with another franchise or go independant. I know this because a deli i frequent is a texaco and have spoke with the owner numerous times. also another business i know in our small town where the ranch is the owner of that station did an cost analysis and found that shell was gonna rape him on liscensing as well as distribution costs. he got with 76 and gets his fuel at a much cheaper rate and allows him to be a competitive point of sales with the local indian gas station.(they get gas from same distributor). its all way to much crap if ya ask me.

You so dam lucky. i wish i had a wife that would buy me a quad for christmas. sheesh. im thinkin about gettin my mom a 60" widescreen for christmas.
Yeah, the quad is pretty sweet. Wifey ordered the 800 rims for it, too.BR>I bought a 57" widescreen 6-months ago, and wish I would have waited to buy a plasma.BR>Hell, I don't pay attention to who's name is on the gas station...I just buy it from whom ever.

Im not impressed with the plasma technology. besides they have a short lifespan. I prefer the oldschool rear projection lcd, or the new DLP. the new DLP projector we got in the office is sweet, i could handle it for my regular tv. i been meanin to bring in my PS2 and play so games. but i been so freakin busy i just aint got time yet.
I need to get on fixin up the SP500 as well. its a decent quad when its all in workin order. right now all we do is tow a lil trailer with it and throw hay on it or fence posts or whatever. it stays on our roads not much trail riding for it considering it has 4 bald tires down to the belts

I hooked up my sp500 last night to the plow. My sp400 needs a new battery. I wish I had a place to get my ATV's out of the weather. I'm not rich like yer buddy just4kicks.

LOL you could do like we do and for aaprox $1000 pick up a 40' container and park em in there. we have 3 quads in a 20' container and 3 in the garage and the sportsman sits outside sometimes in one of the barns.

Wow, do I feel honored! I just happen to pop in this thread after much time away and I see that Whitewater has not forgotten me... *sniffle* *sniffle* *tear*. Rich? Who me? Nawwwww...I'm still working on it though. I wish I could convince my wife's family that we aren't rich. They don't seem to believe me and we always seem to carry an unequal share of the financial burden whenever we get together.BR>
Speaking of TV's, I have a Pioneer Elite 52" projection. It's less than 2-years old and it's starting to act up already. One minute it looks great and the next minute green bars are dancing on the screen. The Elites come with a standard 2-year warranty so I'll be making a call soon.
Posted by: Whitewater
I could NEVER forget an FBK member. However, I would rather have Dancingqueen, GG, Mutha, or 440grl stop by.BR>
I have a sony 57" with a 4-year warranty.

When my boss bought his new house the company that did all the telephone, computer, etc. cabling tried to sell him one of those DLP things. Pretty trick. He told him he'd call em back in a year or 2. Has a ncie TV as it is, and just didn't want to spend more (price tag was already $750K for the house.)
As far as gas, I stick to a few stations, unless I NEED gas and will go wherever I can. Generally get my gas from the local Costco, then a particular ARCO (for my own car, or when I'm fueling the work truck). For work, pretty much use one Tex...err...Shell station that's right by the office. Unless I've driven a lot for personal stuff then I'll switch over to a Chevron. ALL of the gas around here comes from the same place. They just throw in different additives based on which station it's going to. Costco is usually the cheapest in Clovis. You can find gas cheaper in Fresno, but it's a waste of time and $ to drive for it.
Everyone and your fancy TVs. I have a crappy WinTV Go card in my computer at home. Sometimes it works decently, most of the time...nope. Next purchase is going to be a ReplayTV. I forget shows are on and miss them. It's like a Tivo...just MUCH better. Come with better standard features and can hang out on the LAN at home. Now I just need a bigger switch....

My new projection system has been the ticket for watchin moviesWe had 21 people over last saturday and it felt like we were at the movies with the 106" screen. I have to hook up the HDTV to this puppy so we can view TV on it

What projector did you get? our projector is a Toshiba D2 DLP. its pretty freakin sweet.

I'm traveling now so I can't be sure but I think it was from Infocus. 2000 lumens. The picture quality is better than I expected and my kids and I think it's better than at Best Buy where I purchased the unitI got a pretty nice screen and I was told that helps.
The screen pulls down but if the ceiling wasn't so hard to deal with and I had your money (or Hoss') I would have gotten the electric model for the total bling-bling effectGotta keep up with those cribs on MTV

okay, what's CFN Toyo? we're Canadian and we speak english here, you been hanging around too many of them socialist queers in the PNW and yer losing touch with reality.

I'm lucky if my wife cuts a hole in my pocket so i have something to play with on xmas morning, while I'm cooking the turkey.
you guys got COLOR TV?? in our igloos, we have b&w 13". "Looosie, looosie!" those huge projection screens are cheaper than forking out for a 50" widescreen aren't they?
LJ and just4, good to see yer back.

Most likely CFN is Cardlock Fuel Network. It's a fleet fuel station chain. Usually they are just a station, not even an attendant anywhere around (unless it's a regular station that's part of CFN.) Around here, some of the ARCOs are CFN stations.

No, I'm one of those Linux using terrorist/hippie/commie people. Well, at home at least. XP Pro at work. It's actually pretty stable for me. Dare I say better than Win98. (We won't mention the successor consumer POS to Win98). Running Fedora Core 2 at home on the desktop. Have an old RedHat 7.3 box setup as the router/firewall/mail/web server and a RedHat 9 machine set up as a quasi server. It's only serving some files (15GB drive so not much to hold right now...mainly the 4 ISO images for Redora Core 3) and the printer (HP LaserJet 1200...I don't need no stinking color! How much does an inkjet cost to print 2500 pages? I'm just now at the end of the ORIGINAL cartridge that came with the printer...4 years ago when the 1200 first came out! Cost about $55-60 at Costco to get a replacement...though we have a 1200 here....).
When I get off my duff I'm going to do some major reworking of the network: router will change to IPCop 1.4.x. One NIC will go to the ADSL Modem/Internet. Second NIC to the LAN with a hub (I'm out of ports as it is currently...only 4 ports but have an old (10Mbps) 8 port hub here I may take home.) Third NIC (need to add but have one) up to the WAP11 (Wireless Access Point). LAN will be available to the WAN via VPN (if I can get the turkey to work!)
Going to rebuild a box into a server. Have a PIII-600e/256MB RAM (might be 512, but I've got more to put in anyways /(2)6GB HD, (1) 15GB HD, (1) 3GB HD/CD-R/W. Thing is I'll be out of IDE ports...so it looks like I'll need an IDE controller in there as well. Might move an 80GB (or 40GB) drive from the desktop over for storage. I'm going to end up with a lot of video files if I get the Replay. Then I can just burn them to DVD on the desktop. I might make the move to Gentoo or Debian on the server, though I'm thinking I might try out WhiteBox or Tao (open distribution based on Red Hat Enterprise Linux.) My boss is actually waiting for me to mount a laptop to the Warrior...that thing would be destroyed the first trip. Hell, the GPS can't take the shock...let alone a computer with a spinning HD in it.
Probably also add a dedicated MP3 (actually I'll be using OGG/Vorbis, etc. but most people don't know those formats) player hooked to my receiver (AMD K6-2/300 / 64MB RAM (I can add more there as well)/4.3GB HD. Then hopefully I'll be adding a ReplayTV. I work hard(ly) and I want a new toy! That WinTV just isn't cutting it most of the time. The composite-in usually shows up nicely, so I'll just run the audio via the receiver with the video through the composite-in on the WinTV.

Maybe they do oil changes up there. I don't know. I just know that down here CFN is Cardlock Fuel Network. We'll have to wait for him to clear that matter up.
(Wouldn't you know it....I had to actually copy & paste THIS post. Sheesh. I dumped it into word...came out just over 1 page long. LOL)

on the CFN (Commercial Fuel Network) We was talkin about fuel stations.. and i believe that is the you dam canadians have no multi-tasking ability. Chevron Oil in all the diesels from boats to tractors to Pickups In my lil ranger i use Castrol syntec blend 15w40 for 4x4 trucks. its all a marketing scheme but i can say this. 150k miles and it still dont burn a drop of oil. (I also used the same oil in a '90 geo metro for 300k miles and didnt burn a drop in it)
On the projectors, if you have a stereo and a satelite or cable box its not a bad way to go. our projector is 2500 lumens. its a bright sum of a biatch. our projection surface is a magnectic dry-erase Whiteboard. its 14'wide and 5'tall. of course the projector dont fill it cuz i cant get enough distance. In normal 4:3 aspect it makes the screen 5' tall. and you can write on the white board when brainstorming and writing narratives and crap. works well for teaching too. then when i get bored i use it for movies Gettin a satelite reciver in here too so i can watch FOX news all day while workin bout dam time i know

Well we have a negotiated rate wich is Lower than the local gas stations, so it works out. Off-road diesel is muuuuch cheaper and basically the same thing anymore with out the Highway tax um i would never run that in the pickup Most the time its highway fuel but dam sometimes you in BFE and gotta fill yerself up

MD, I never knew ANYTHING about changing spindles (hubs) until you said it. i just dissed ya by saying you couldn't have figured that one out yourself. just being my usual sh!t-disturbing self. only Toyo would claim to have told you this before, probably in some dis-combobulated babble.

Not exactly. I know a spindle off a 500 Suzuki will not fit the Suzuki 160. Now I don't remember if they were to big or to small. But, we did check it out(visually). I'll probably pull the spindles off the 400 this weekend, to check if they will fit on the 160. If they do, I'll probably start looking at atv junk yards for spindles/wheels.

WARNING: LONG A** POST!
OK, so you guys might have a chance at understanding what I was talking about I'll make comments:
... Linux ... Linux itself is just an Operating System kernel. It's the heart of the OS. Kinda like the PSD, or maybe the ECU. It bascially melds the hardware and applications together. Companies/Foundations/private people put the kernel together with other tools (usually teh GNU tools as the base) to create an operating system, and each one is referred to as a distribution (that probably goes back to BSD (Berkley Software Distribution) days.) Linux is licensed under a slightly modified, or rather interpretation of the GNU General Public License. Issued by the Free Software Foundation.
... terrorist/hippie/commie people.... That's a long standing joke. Microsoft compared Linux users at one time to terrorists.
...Fedora Core... Fedora Core is a distribution that is put out by Red Hat of Research Triangle Park, NC. This distro is a testbed. Can be very unstable at times and releases every six months. Supposed to be used as a tinker toy by developers. Red Hat also puts out a commercial product line called Red Hat Enterprise Linux. Includes support and what not. Long support cycle of like 5 years.
..RedHat... This is Red Hat's old distribution which was released in 6 month increments and ended with the version 9 release about 2 years ago.
...ISO images... A CD-ROM uses the ISO 9660 standard for laying out the filesystem (there are extension to this, like Rockridge) that add some functionality, like long filename support (greater than 8.3 files). DVD use an extension of the ISO 9660 standard as well. When you use something like Roxio, Nero, etc. that program is creating the ISO image for you. Linux distributions are generally all freely downloadable in some form. Some, like Red Hat Enterprise Linux is only downloadable on ISOs as source code. Most distributions have a source ISO (usually names whatever-CD#-SRC.ISO) and binary ISO (whatever-CD#-i386.iso). The last one would be for the i386 architecture. That includes all Intel 386, 486, Pentium Line, (and compatible), as well as AMD Athlon line processors as well. Linux supports something like 30 architectures. Including PlayStation 2! (NerBSD actually holds the record. Maybe like 60 architectures.)
I think most people know what laser printers are. Much cheaper to run than ink jets. If I need color I have a color plotter (24" wide ink jet printer HP DesignJet 100) at the office. BR>
...IPCop... This is another Linux distribution but is designed for building routers. Take an old computer (in my case a AMD K5-PR133 (like a Pentium 133 MHz), throw in some network interface cards (NIC) and voila! Router/firewall/etc.
...ADSL Modem... The hardware (techinally Customer Premise Equipment (CPE) used to connect to a DSL line.
..hub... device used to connect several computers together. Get a switch. They are better than hubs. It's what I had.
WAP11 (Wireless Access Point). WAP11 is a Linksys model of a Wireless Access Point. Used as a "base station" for wireless devices in a Wireless Area Network. It's an 802.11b device. There are .11a (54Mbps) .11b (11mbps) .11g (not sure on speed, but is backwards compatable with .11b).
...LAN.. Local Area Network. Computer network.
...VPN... Virtual Private Network. Allows secure transmissions over an insecure link (usually the Internet, but could also be over a WAN). Allows you to connect two disparete locations and have the networks on either side look like one local network.
Just a bunch of hardware: PIII-600e is a CPU. Intel Pentium 3. 600MHz. It's actually got 320MB (checked it last night)
...IDE... Integrated Device Electronics. It's what most HD (Hard Drive) out there use. The other standards are SCSI (Small Computer Systems Interface) for server or high end workstations, SATA (Serial ATA uses a small connector/cable and is an extension of ATA which is an extension of IDE), USB & FireWire. (Most USB & FireWire (IEEE 1394, iLink) are ATA drives in an enclosure that converts to USB/FireWire. FireWire is Apple's trademark name for the IEEE standard. iLink is Sony's trademark. FireWire was designed by Apple as a high speed replacement to USB.
...Gentoo or Debian... Two other distributions of Linux. Debian is a slow moving, but ultra stable. Gentoo is built based on Debian and is custom compile by your machine (this think can take the better part of a week to download & compile your packages!)
WhiteBox or Tao..open distribution based on Red Hat Enterprise Linux.
...ReplayTV... It's like a Tivo, but this thing ROCKS. Put two on a LAN together and they'll work together to record shows. And you can view the other ones recorded shows across the network with one, or use an application on a computer to do so. Do if you're in the market for a DVR, give them a look. $100 for the 40 hour unit. $12.95 monthly or $299 lifetime service.
Most of the licensing used in open source basically say that you can take the source code, change it, and redistribute that source code as your own. GPL successive software must remain GPL software.
BSD licensed softare can be taken, changed and made proprietary. Apple OS X is based on FreeBSD. Microsoft also grabbed the TCP/IP stack from FreeBSD and used that in previous versions of WinNT 4. You can actually fingerprint a machine based on their TCP/IP stack. Everyone implements some areas of TCP/IP differently and it creates a fingerprint.
Open Source licenses may say you can look at the source, you just can't touch it.
Software is referred to as Free as in Speach, not free as in beer. (Ok, now that I have your attention). It's about being free from vendor lock-in. You don't have to wait for the vendor to fix what is screwed up. You can do it yourself. Patches to security problems are often made the same day as the issue is found. If the vendor goes belly up, you can continue to support your software yourself, or pay someone to do it. If your vendor turns against you, you're not locked into their stuff. Most file formats used in Free Software use open formats. Many are moving on to XML for file formats. The file sizes are really so much smaller. And you can tweak it by hand or open it up and retrieve the data from another program if you change applications.
Hope that helps. (Now that is a long a** post!)

75% ehh? That's probably better than some people in the industry.
When I was taking my CCNA classes there were some totally clueless people. One chick hadn't even really used a computer much before that. Hubby worked for some company that managed Cisco's bennies and said it was pretty good (though most people who are CCNA's don't work FOR Cisco, but work WITH their equipment. One guy I know from there who did get his CCNA knew nothing about computers or how to trouble shoot them.
Some first tier tech support (the first ones to answer the calls) are clueless as well. Unless they just started out in tech support and are moving up.
Have a friend who used to do tech support for NetGear. He was pretty good. Figured out how to get a buy connected via DSL on a 486 running Win 3.1. How, I don't know.

Hoss, even though pennies are considered U.S. Currency, if that guy doesn't pay up in hard currency. He will pay for it in the long run. Added on penalties and just maybe a warrant for his arrest for failing to pay his fine. Just not worth it in my book. Especially if the warrant is served while he is driving his car. Let's see, Avg tow bill $125 plus $25 a day storage, then, not to mention the inconvienance of missing work, picking kids up, etc. Then, having to wait for someone to come to the jail to past the bail. of course, he is stubborn, so, he'll want to see the Judge. After sitting in jail for 2 days or 48 hours(which ever might be longerhe'll get his wishThen the fine for the Failure to Pay, will be more then the original fine. So, who really wins here? Just a thought, from someone who's seen just about everything

Sorry MD thats HorseCrap. The man offered payment in US CURRENCY pennies or not the state should be obligated to honor the debt settled!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Posted by: Whitewater
I agree with Toyo. I think they should take the money and shut up. That is a small town and they have time to put it through a coin machine.
Posted by: OneFlyCowboy
and besides thats a BS ticket. 82 flippin dollars for a burnt out headlight? WTF what about a fix it ticket? they ever heardof those in utah? your entitled to a warning.

must be a bunch of those dag nab liberal commies livin thar
Posted by: rescuediver
Call it what you want too. Courts have held up their right to place limits on what currency they want to except. And Hoss you mentioned one of the reasons why, time and coin machine. Not too many places have access to one. And Toyo, it might be excessive to you, but, you really don't know the whole story. The owner might of been given plenty of fix it tickets, he might have thumbed his nose at the courts and refused to pay until now, Who knows. Bottom lines is, when your light goes out, fix the dang thing.

years ago when I was in the mobile tool business, I had a customer that paid $2800.00 for a tool box in nothing but coins. Yes, it weas a big pain in the rear but it was cash and I gladly took it. Some deals are easy and some you work forBR>
I feel as long as it's legal tender the business should accept it

Christmas looks good for my daughterslooks like if all goes well, my youngest daughter will be moving up to a Raptor 80that Santa will be leaving under the treeAnd it will be paid for in cold hard U.S. Cashimg src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-tongue.gif" border="0">
Posted by: Trasher
Might want to check out the E-Ton Viper 90 (it has reverse ) My kids have two and they are pretty sweet little rides. Both have been flawless quads and the features it has over the Raptor make it a pretty good quad for the money. Check one out
Posted by: confusedbuyer
MD, cash, as in pennies for the Rap 80? it's US currency and it's cash! OR, confiscated from the last crack-house bust kinda cash? img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-happy.gif" border="0"> my beef is pennies are obsolete and useless. so if ya don't want to take them, then de-mint them. In Europe, if you're owed pennies in change, they give ya a couple of candies instead.
Creator, i guess in SD you never have to take one of them Taiwan-mobiles through a few inches of water. however, in the rest of the non-desert world, those things do not handle water very well. Otherwise, I've not heard an owner say a bad thing about them. Personally, I'm getting really tired of the sanctimonious attitude of their owners, like : 'If you didn't buy an Eton, it's inferior, and you're an idiot for not getting the hands down best kids quad'. (ANd I'm not saying you specifically are one of those types of Eton owners). If you look at my old pics where we're crossing water, the Eton would never have got through that part, and our day would have been over. how much fun would that be?
Now, the Rap 80 does have a handful of features the Eton doesn't have. Shaft drive is a lifetime, bullet proof design that lasts forever. never lube a chain once, never adjust tension, never take chain off and clean in stinky, messy kerosene, never replace a sprocket. never replace chain. Takes 15 min of maintenance out of your daily prep for a ride. When you're prepping 3-4 other quads for the family, that is a nice feature.
4-stroke vs. 2-stroke. that's really a toss-up. Eton is injected, so you only have to remember to keep the resevoir full. BUT, some folks have forgotten and cooked engines. 3-speed semi-auto on Rap. take your pic on that one. it is nice to have 1st gear hold back on steep hills, and to learn to shift, which will only make you a better rider in the future. Eton is gas and go, and it apparently goes flat out faster, if that's your thing.
Eton has disc brakes (never had the mechanical drums fail, ever, on the Rap, so i think this feature is way over-rated). Eton has headlights and horn. who can hear the horn with engine revving and helmut on is beyond me, but I'm sure they're real irritating when you stop for a break and kids start playing with it. Lights are good for trail visibilty, i.e, to be seen. to use for night riding is plain crazy.
so yep, ya get a few extra features on the Eton, but there are some the Rap80 has too. I think the Rap is a good little quad that gets no respect from all these chinese made race-quad owners. If yer gonna race, then don't even consider the Rap80. For trails, I think it's every bit as good, if not better. man, Eton is getting agressive tho. we just got a whack of local dealers, but they're gonna have their uphill battle of nobody trusting Chinese vs. Japanese, especially when they sell for the same price. and there's no 30 year history to draw from.
Hoss, I'm not picking on you anymore cuz yer just not sparring back, and that's the best way to tell someone to FOAD, and to leave you alone. so I got the message. no more sincere insults from me to you.

Confused, I just posted a site for you in the mini raptor thread you had posted inMD
Posted by: confusedbuyer
THANKS!! I've checked out rockymountain before and they had an 8" rim and sand tire for the Rap80, that i think'll i'll order before we go to Oregon in March.
Posted by: rescuediver
Creaor, I did consider the off brands and Eton was one of them. Couple problems for me 1. There is NO local dealer to visit, to actually look at the quad and better yet, GET PARTS when I need them. 2. If I'm riding at Pismo or where ever and something happens. I just don't see parts in the shops to get them rolling again for the rest of our visit. And when I ask about cross over parts. I'm told they might fitor "I don't know"Wrong answers for me. And another big sticker for me is the "RED STICKER" that will be attached to it. Don't like riding half the year
Confused made alot of goods points and the reasons he statedere reasons why, I decided to go with the Raptor 80Plus, it's coming from a real good friend who is moving his daughter upto a Z250. So, I'm getting a heck of a deal on a real nice quad. My daughter will ride it for 3-4 yearsI'm getting nerf bars and a push bar that I've only seen for Bansheesa flamed billet bumperhere's the site if you want a gandermid cal motorsports

Speaking of Oregon in March, I'm still trying to make that a realization to happen, to meet you thereRight now, it's about 50/50If anything, I'll probably make a weekend run up therenot like I haven't done anything like that before
Posted by: confusedbuyer
glad to see you valued my opinion so much that you asked me what i thot BEFORE you bought from your friend j/k. man, those accessories are SO expensive!! they do look awesome, like the nerf bars, but that's $200!! I'm too cheap to accessorize for that kinda $$.

we just had someone in the group cancel, but they usually find another canucklehead to fill their spot. we go the week leading up to Easter. I think we'll leave by Easter weekend as I expect it'll be a goon-show by then. BUT IF that's the weekend you plan on arriving, we'll stay longer. we were gonna ride with some of the PNW guys maybe, for the Easter weekend, just to get some mud on the toys before we get home.

Today, I went to a new OHV park that opened today in Atwater. Here's a linknew atv/mc parkit's pretty nice. The track they have for the kids is awesome. Kids could spend hours riding it.nd what's nice is, it's for 90cc or lessThey had 3 other tracks for quads/mc. and the Sand pit is total length 400 feet long, but, your dragging 300 feet of it. (Sand was brought in from Monterey)They already had the Christmas Tree lights upand some quads/banshees we saw at Pismo over Christmas were there. There must of been well over 1,000 people there. And all the money benefits the Atwater Police PAL(Police Activity League) which is a good dealThey are adding another 2-3 more tracks over time. Who says you can't start a new riding area in CALIFORNIAere's proofand Atwater is a SMALL Community that went down hillafter Castle Airforce Base Closed in Clinton's erakinner, I'm sure well meet someday there
Posted by: rescuediver
Yea, it's not cheaput, I told the wife, we need to change it a bit so, she doesn't feel she's riding our friend's, daughter's quad. And I thought of safety first, so, that's why I picked the nerf's and that bumper is just totally awesomeShe'll get them separate and that will be out little project after the wrapping paper is thrown awayBR>
One of the problems I am having about committing to the trip is, the kids school hasn't told us which week they are out of school, for Easter Breaks soon as I find out, I'll be able to let you know. If it's just the kids and I, we'll probably sleep in the bed of my truck/tent, Unless I have my toy trailer by then. We shall see.

I think considering how far most of us live apart I'll call the 13.35 miles from the office my back yard. It's west of Hwy 99 (note, there isn't an exist from southbound 99, but there IS one for northbound 99 for McKinly. Hey, I have no idea. The freeway was a government job, what can you expect! Wait...actually I think there is, it's right around Clinton or something. It's goofy. LMAO...I just checked the directions from the north (it's about 85 miles from you.) Mapquest directions are SCREWY! If you go, exit Clinton Ave (there are a TON of exits right there) or the next one. You'll go UNDER Clinton, then down Parkway (you'll pass in front of Cen Cal Machinery...it's a big tractor (like loaders, back hoes, etc) place, and go down to McKinley, right on McKinley and it should be about 3 miles or so down the road.
If my back hadn't been so sore yesterday (note to self: get new tires for the quad) I would have made the trip up the freeway. I'll have to check on admission....don't see any on their website. Instead me and the bro went and saw The Incredibles. Pretty good movie. Though I'm not usually a cartoon kinda guy. A good one for the kids, but yet the parents can get the chuckle from a couple of double entendres. Fast for a 2 hr movie. Sure the heck beat Alexander. Blech that movie SUCKED. Came out of the theatre wondering what I just did for the last 3 hrs.

Haven't you guys ever heard of making an appointment? Sheesh. You go in and out. Oh, and one other trick I heard...go at the end of the day...if you are in the doors before they close, they HAVE to serve you. And they don't want to work late so they all A through everyone. Reminds me...I need to take some paperwork down there....Fresno PD officer goofed up on the vehicle type on a semi-trailer we were re-licensing. They sent everything back...I just haven't taken it back in yet. BR>
MD I'm gonna ball park a figure of $35 title transfer plus whatever your city/county/etc. (depending on where you live) sales tax on the declared purchase price. There might be a title fee or something like that (like $10 I think.) Mine was all done through the dealer so no clue. Gotta love those Power of Attorney they have you sign so THEY can do it. I think they make standing reservations. I know Clovis DMV has a window ONLY for dealers.

MD do you have a large, self-replenishing stack of cash?? why would you give the CA gov't a gift of 7.3% taxes on the used quad you just bought? the guy who bought it new already paid them tax, why should you have to pay it again 1 year later??? I hope you came up with a really, really, low purchase price for the purposes of taxes.
lookin at yer list of quads, that old dinosaur Polaris has just gotta go...it's not a 2000's model. I'm calling your wife to tell her.
how'd toyo do at the bowling alley 2night?? score any chain-smoking 50+ y/o cougars?? careful dude, they might teach you a few new things!!
finished all my tune up work on the Honda 250ES tonight. valve adjustment, clutch adjust, carb clean & adjust, clean air filter & box, new plug, cleaned out spark arrestor, changed gear oil (man, it was like a Wendy's frosty in color and consistency). my hands are still burnt from adjusting that stupid pilot screw. 3 nice blisters starting to bubble up. now i just gota find some cheap new rear plastic and maybe a rear rack.
Posted by: rescuediver
LOLWell, let's say, you cannot fib on the purchase priceIn California, when you buy a motor vehicle and go to register it at DMV, they collect the taxes, along with the fees, DMV charges. So, it doesn't matterif taxes were paid last year, or yesterday, for that matter The purchaser will pay more taxes on the "purchase" price upon registering it, in their name.
I'm always looking for the "deals" that are out thereYour right about the Polaris. Wife told me 2 days ago, that I lost the Z400 to herLooks like I'll be selling her or is it MY Polaris in the near future and buying a new Z400 for myself. And honestly, I didn't plan it this wayimg src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0">
You need to find yourself some nice leather gloves to work around that exhaustith. I have 2 racks off of a Mojave, don't know if they will fit your 250 though
Posted by: confusedbuyer
why, how will they know what you paid the guy for a used quad?? and i doubt the previous owner would care about what the CA govt squeezes outta ya.
I tried wearing Mechanix gloves, and i couldn't hold the screwdriver bit i was using to adjust the pilot screw. it's a horrible, rotten location (under the carb).
Posted by: rescuediver
They really don't. You do sign your life away saying what you paid, and the seller puts down on the title what the selling price was.
You need to find a pair that actually fits. Otherwise, don't mess with the carb, until those blisters pop and ooze all over everything/k

I had to go back three pages to find your question again! here it is for all:
Maybe somebody can help me out or had this happen to them. A while ago my 4 wheel drive quit working if my hubs are in auto (push button 4x4) it will not go into 4 wheel drive until I get out and put my hubs into the lock position. Any ideas?
Posted by: Trasher
It sounds as if one of your automatic locking hubs are not working. All it takes is one broken auto-locking hub to make your 4 wheel drive as completely dysfunctional as a 2 wheel drive. A quick test is to set the parking brake and the transmission in park. Jack-up one of the front wheels and put a screw driver or small bar through the axle joint to prevent axle rotation. Then rotate the wheel. As the wheel is rotated the automatic hub will start to torque-up/engage the axle. When automatic hubs are working correctly you can hear and feel the change occurring while the wheel is being turned. Rotating the wheel in the opposite direction causes the automatic hub to disengage and then start engaging again. Lower that wheel to the ground and perform the same procedure on the other side. Don't forget the screw driver! In the event that both hubs seem to be working there may be a problem with the transfer case. Most often it is one of the automatic locking hubs that's the problem. Automatic hubs can be replaced individually. The hubs have been a big problem on the F250's for year now. Check 'em out and good luck!

A lot of people for years were fudging the selling price. DMV got tired of it. Cause what they also do is set your VLF based on the last selling price (for at least a couple of years.) So people got a couple years of low registration fees, other than their sales tax being low. DMV wised on when too many Ferraris were selling for a few grand. Now, if they think something is funny it won't be pretty.
Now VLF (what the big fight over last year was about) is based on KBB values. I don't remember what the amount is now. It' USED to be like either 2% or .5%, but it's now about 33% of that. You pay that in leu of paying property taxes on your vehicles. Luckily OHVs don't pay anything but their $25 every 2 years for registration.
EVERYTHING you own pretty much gets taxed. Well, anything big ticket. Not on actual property (though I think businesses have to declare stuff and pay taxes on that.) My boss gets a seperate tax bill from the county for each of his planes. Should be a big year for write-off on those. He spend about $50K on engines for one.

Maybe his boss figured out that he didn't do anything besides being a post whore.

Actually my boss is pretty reasonable about deciding which plane he's going to fly. If it's long distance (like when he was flying into Ontario International) he takes the Aerostar 600. It's pretty damn fast at about 250 knts. It's obviously a large airport and there isn't an issue with runway length. If that's an issue, he takes the Piper Arrow (single). And any short trips he takes the Arrow (like up to Tracy, Stockton, etc.)
$2000 is property taxes? My friend pays about $1K (it comes from his mortgage so he's not exactly sure) on his house which he paid about $130K a few years ago. And that's pretty cheap around here. Most houses in Clovis where I live you can't touch for less than $350K new. Like I've noted before...it's insane around here. I'm not sure what the diff. in property taxes between Fresno & Clovis are. There are overlapping tax districts (the school district where he and I live are the same) but it's different cities, same county, same ag district, different cemetary district. It's pretty much insane to figure that one out.
There are rules of when the Assesor can raise and lower taxes. Basically if you own the home, and don't sell it or anything, the valuation stays the same. But if you do anything with it, it will go to the current valuation, or if there was a previous devaluation, then it went back up they can reassess. This happened last year to some people (my supervisor's tax bill on his rental home went up). SO two people living in houses next to each other could be paying really different property tax amounts.

Skinner, your boss is paying luxury taxes on his airplanes. I think around here, property taxes are around 1% of property value. When we almost bought the 1/2 million $$$ box house. Property tax was over $500 a monthe pay about $100 a month nowNeighbors pay less, like Skinner said. They've lived in the house since it was built.

Could be. I just happened to see the bills come in this year.
That seems to be about what my friend pays for his. $500...hell I don't even pay that for my portion of rent! EEEK. I'm sure granny's is low as she's owned the house since new (1957) and lived in it for most of that except around the early 70s when they (granny, grandpa & my aunt) lived in Hinkley (the town from Erin Brokovich. Mom didn't heed granny's advice to wash her hair in bottled water....says her hair never was the same. ) She just put a new roof on this summer, so they might reasses the house.

you snivelling whiners!! , yep, up here in good 'ol socialist Canada with universal health care, we don't pay a fraction of your taxes.... NOT!!! they say we work until July 1 to pay all our taxes, then we start working for ourselves. awww man, ya just gotta love socialism and all the BSocial programs for the lazy and useless. I guess when ya get taxation overload, there's some natural revolt. on consumer purchases (especially tradesmen), guys always try to negotiate cash prices. On used vehicles, guys write half what they actually paid on the transfer paper, to avoid taxes, and neither the seller or purchaser care. atvs aren't registered, so taxes are only paid new, or on dealer sales, not on private sales.
skinner, is your boss a pimp or a drug dealer? could he maybe share a fraction of the wealth with the working stiffs? He sounds like Montgomery Burns. We may have to re-name you Smithers. So does he have a Chef and food-taster on staff?? which plane...sheesh. is that when the limos are out of commission? Hmm, which Rolls do i want to drive from the mansion to the cottage this week?naw, I'll fly the Lear jet instead (made by Bombardier, a Canadian company).

on the auto hubs... isn't that all electronics, whereas manual allows you to byass the electronic feature? my guess is some sorta electronic computer doo-dad. what about starting simple and checking fuses??
in the late 90's models, when they offered Auto only, all my logger cousins had them switched to manual. apparently they said auto wasn't very good, but then i heard it was perception. so i dunno. auto hasn't let us down. occasionally, i'll lock in just because.

Nope, electrical contractor. A right wing, certified (aka NRA sticker in back window of truck) gun toting nut.

Don't ask my brother. He goes around correcting people's work that make 80% more than he does.

Nope, no limos. Only sedan is an '01 Lincoln LS that his wife drives. He drives or flies himself everwhere. He hates private jets (pre-flight takes WAY too long for his liking.) Mansion...no...he lives in a gated community in the "classy" area of town. Still cost $750K though. No Rolls either (I think it's too flashy for him. Everything except the LS (his wife "bought" it), Stang & VTX is white. He just likes things fast):
Boss:
'99 Lightning (only if it's dry out)
'00 F-150 std cab flareside 4x4 XLT 5.4L (when it's wet or just feels like it).
'03 or '04 Honda VTX1300 (black of course)
'69 Mustang Fastback (powder blue)
Piper Aerostar 600
Piper Arrow (with Aerostar paint scheme. White with two tone blue striping.)
Wife:
'03 Lincoln LS (silver color....gorgeous)
Coast House:
'97 F-150 std cab flareside XLT 5.4L
'99 Expedition XLT 5.4L
Every company vehicle we have is white. The foreman's trucks are marked...except for one...good thing...talk about road rage!. Which is nice...doesn't actually show dirt all that much.

I think we do about $5M a year in business. Seriously, that's all. But some of our projects have been known to pull 100% profit. Bascially it costs us 1/2 of what we charge to do the work. This year isn't going to be too great. Been having to pay a LOT of OT and DoubleOT. We've done more business, but make the same amount of money. Boss says forget it. He likes the size and profitability. Why work your butt off when you can keep busy and still make the same amount in the end.
We tend to work directly for the customer, and not as a sub to a general. Though our most profitable work is as a sub to a large refrigeration company. We are working on our 10th project with them in probably 10 years. Usually do one a year, maybe less, sometimes more, at least recently. I believe last year was 3 projects (TX, FL and CA). This year is 2.
The boss has owned the planes for a while now. The Aerostar goes back to 80s at the least. He used to fly it as a corporate aircraft for his cousin. Not sure when he got the Arrow. They do run so much through the company and use it for tax breaks. Though he didn't like the $15K bill from the IRS when they disallowed the aircraft as business exemption. He fought and now prorates costs based on business/personal use. (They (him and his wife) actually paid more in taxes last year than she made. She's a teacher set to retire this year so I'm going to assume low-to-mid 40K income. He takes $120K in salary. Its only been in the last 7-8 years from what I've been told that the company got real profitable. He used to do a lot of commercial work which doesn't bring much money around here. Now we try to stick with industrial work, with refrigeration our big bread winner. We do maintain business with a super market company and build 1-2 supermarkets per year. They can be ok profit wise as we've done so many we know what it's going to take.
We don't really have too many problems with other elec. contractors around here. We do so little work locally they don't bother us. Our biggest problem is the local IBEW hall. They cause us more problems. Hell, they can legally harass you and there's nothing you can do about it. Unions helped some people out, now, it's all about the Union making money. They actively try to destroy any non-union shop. Though from what I hear one local Union shop is trying to push them out and is using the rules to do it. They call for guys, and if they suck, send em home at noon with a full-day pay, never to be rehired back. Once you go through the hall, you can go outside the hall to get help. Gotta love legal uncompetitive business practices, extortion, etc. all in the name of "Workers' Rights."

Unions in the beginning were greatut, here lately, they are a pain in the azz and really aren't worth the money they are payednd yes, they do hide their shananigans behind loop holes in laws
Posted by: confusedbuyer
MD, you must belong to a union?! man, our Longshoremens Union is ridiculous. you can earn 6 figures a year doing unskilled labor. and they can shut down the economy when they decide to strike. they're one of the few unions left with supreme power, thus the ridiculous wages. last week my buddy made $2k gross in a week, and he's a junior guy. other unions like IBEW are really busting their hump to survive. they still have some stiffs, but they've got a lot of good workers too. they've lost a lot of power here.
skinner, interesting gig you guys got going. nuthin like specializing and having your niche market. I've heard lots of guys say they got bigger and made less $$, so sounds like your boss has the right formula. I'd like to get a few folks working for me, but I've had poor results in the past. if you're really good at the job, ya end up going solo. but solo guys like me have a worthless business when we go to sell, and have a tough time competing with bigger companies that can bid work at a cut rate, have work done by juniors or superficially do the job, but the companies don't care, it's all about doing it cheap, not well.
Posted by: rescuediver
I had belonged to a union since I was 16. We did belong to a union (it represented all work forces, not just officers) for legal representation during disciplinary issues. As far as contracts, we had an attorney that my association hired do that. 4 years ago, we clashed with our union over what was called the rat patrol. It was one of those things they could do because the law protected themut, they (union reps/members) continued to harass officers when they were called out to the scene to investigate calls of disturbing the peace at a job site.Part of the harassment was telling the officers "we" were in the same union and that we should leave them "alone"and look the other way. Basically not do our job. We tried to work with the union, but, let's just say, it wasn't pretty. So, we servered our relationship and work strickly with Attorneys for everythingand it's worked out very well for us.
Unions here, IMO are doing more harm then good. Right now, the largest nurses union in Ca. just went to Sacramento to let Arnie know, they weren't happy with him prolonging the law, that increased the nurse to patient ratio. Good law in a way, but, what has happened is, it's caused hospitals to get rid of the other pertainant employess like, respiratory therapist, x-ray techs, lab personel, etc. to help pay for the additional nurses. So, now the nurse's case load has actually gone up
Posted by: confusedbuyer
ya, our nurses were severely underpaid. they got one of the largest, ugliest woman I've ever seen as their union prez. she's one of these people who probably has 20+ cats for companionship, cuz not even Toyo would touch her after a rough night of bowling. Actually, Toyo saw a bunch of big red welts on her and asked what they were, she said "(20 foot) pole marks". anyways, she was hard and fast that they hold out for a 200% pay increase!!! and they ended up getting huge concessions from the gov't. but then a lot of others wanted better deals and it became a mess. the nurses get good shift pay and sat/sun is paid way better, so by working those days, their pay was already pretty good. when gov't runs health care and it's all unionized, it's pretty scary.

We've been "salted" and so have other contractors. Bascially they send in union pukes, and record anything that you screw up on. Problem is, you can't do everything 100%...there are conflicting laws. The "business manager" used to show up at our office before 8 when only the boss was there so the office manager couldn't block him. He'd just waltz his little a** right on into the boss's office. He's lucky the boss didn't get too tweaked and pull out the Glock in his desk. Hell, I'd have had him arrested for tresspassing. I should have called in a hit-and-run when he backed out and hit the planter in the middle of the driveway..it's about an 18" raised concrete thing. Plus squeeling his tires.
I know Clovis Unified Schools don't have unions for the teachers. They have this faculty senate thing. They negotiate with the district. No unions. The teacher's unions (some anyways) don't care about the students. Hell, you're lucky if they even care about the actual employees.
Ok, diff. subject. My supervisor was given this boat by his father-in-law. It's a 1973 Christ Craft something. 17'. Teal hull. It's got some kind of a Buick V6 (at least that is what it appears to be. Has a GM style starter & fuel pump) that's got serious issues. It's not 100% locked up, but it barely turns maybe 2-3%. One guy who is familiar with them thinks it's a 225. Well, this boat has a grand total of 35 hours! Yes...35 hours. We started tearing into it this afternoon. Pulled the valvle covers, and front engine cover (down to the timing chain). Looks perfect inside. There was some copper in the oil when we drained some. THe guy is saying it's probably a main bearing. Going to pull the motor Friday. This should be interesting. First time I'll ever be involved with rebuilding a motor. It's sat since the early 1980s.
The motor should be going to the machine shop for cleaning up either Sat (if he's open) or early next week.

Skinner, just make sure when you put that vessel back together, you use all marine approved items. If you use automotive items, I wouldn't ride in it. Just asking for an explosioneen explosions happen and vessels sinkdue to the owners using car parts in the engine compartment.
Posted by: BlackandRedWarrior
Yeah the other guy who's worked on boats was telling us about what all they do differently. The air filter on this thing is some crazy looking thing. Everything is anti-spark/flame/etc. We had to cut the outdrive control wires (forward/reverse) to get it off. So we'll need some splices that are approved. Everything else should be just fine.
The big thing that needs to be bought is a new fuel tank. The old one is SEVERELY rusted on the inside. It was cleaned once and still looks nasty. Looks like that will be the only non-stock type of item to go in. The other guy really wants to do it back to factory stuff. To help keep it's value. NADA on the thing was like $1500 for it. He says it's worth MUCH more then that. I can't find anything online for the 17', but the 19' with a small V8 seems to be about $6K. The best we can guess was the original purchase price was about $6900 by what was written on a brochure we found with all the stuff.
The boat is in great condition. Only seen one small 1.5" scratch on the back of the boat. Otherwise a goody washing/wax/detailing and she'll be gorgeous. It sat in a dry barn for nearly 20 years.
Posted by: Trasher
Does this V6 have aluminum heads? Most of the older 225's had those. When I worked heavy line at the Buick dealer back in the day parts were hard to find then. Don't know hwta it would be like nowBR>
I don't ever remember having a bottom end lock up on one. Might be tight because it's been sitting and just a disassemly and re-assemly with a good cleaning and lubing is all it would need. Head gaskets were an issue though........... Alum head to a steel block with older style gaskets

on engine, can't the main bearings pit from sitting? or do they need some liquid in there? on the Ford Windstars (95ish), they had rotten head gaskets that were sure to blow, it was just a matter of when. If you tore into them after, the main bearings would often be pitted and not last much longer.

The boat had sat for what 20 years. Supervisor got it, took it to a shop to have it worked on. They got it running for about 30 seconds when it locked. Sounds like it just ran, bearings got hot and let go. Probably had something to do with sitting for so long.
ok...other topic.

aaawwww, Skinner, c'mon man.. is that all you think of me as, The Polaris Basher?? I'm crushed. That's only to get Hoss' ire worked up into overdrive. he uses it like a Viagra-type motivation. i think the price is high for used and I'll seriously tell you why. If you go to www.buysell.com, check Vancouver/BC edition, and then find the ATVs classification, 2000-2005, there is a 2004 Polaris V-twin 700, 4x4, says low mileage, mint, something like that. He's ASKING $5900 OBO. Last 2 weeks before that (not in this weeks edition), a guy was selling a 2003 Polaris 700 + Polaris SPortsman 90 together as a package deal for $7000. well i know the sportsman 90 is worth $2000. AND these are CANADIAN prices. while you're dollar is taking a thrashing, you could still knock 20-25% of those prices to convert it to US currency. So for a 500, that seems a little high. I expect a bigger price difference between new to used, or i'll just pay the bit extra and be the first owner and get the full warranty.

I agree with you Confused about a bigger price difference. But, sometimes, if aftermarket parts are involved (which I don't know, about this case) it might be wise to buy it. But, If it's only a few hundred, and stock condition, it's worth buying a new one then.
