Glad you saved money fixing the starter yourselfo bad, it cost you a day's wageshr>
AWESOME!! that sounds like the jewel of your quad collection now! I like the newer year, hopefully means your not having to worry about anything for a long time. Man, all your quads are speed demon stuff. Our area is really dominated by the rec/utility stuff, for all the trail and bush riding, but I guess you guys are more sand and speed.
you bought it the same day it came out, so i hope you got a great deal. Is that a 4-stroke?
your wiring problem should be simple. the PSD comes pre-wired. you do need to add the black/square relays to the under-the-hood fuse box, plus maybe a fuse. if it's not working, there's gotta be something wrong with wiring pattern-maybe on your trailer.
unfortunately for me, i have a compulsive personality to finish things i start, or i sit and obsess about them all day, like this stupid starter, fixing quads, the flatdeck trailers, etc.. I'd like to think I've learned a ton about how to repair this stuff, and how it works. I'll make a good MacGyver.
Skinner, those folks sound dumber than a sack of hammers. they don't even know what a receiver is, or what any of those things mean?? Is the E350 their mo-home, or a Van? their mo-home will blow apart the tranny trying to haul too much weight. PLUS they'll need electric brakes (i'm sure that's lost on them).. Just tell them to leave it floored in O/D on the steepest hill=blown tranny=no more problem.

Confused, it is the gem of our collectionActually, I think the Mojave will always be the gemecause of all the work my daughter and I have put into itWhen I told my daughter tonight, that the Mojave was now hers, she was all smiles, ear to ear
I think I got a heck of a deal on it, $3500Around here, you very seldom see the Z400 for sale. It might start to show up more, now that Suzuki is coming out with a Z450, but, that's just to much for me. Around here, bikes made back in the mid 80's are selling for more the $3500, '01 Raptors are going for around $4100-4400+, was looking at a '02 Warrior for $3600, it did have some aftermarket parts on it though. Then, there was a'89 warrior for sale, new "top end" for $3700. So, I think I stole this bike for $3500This bike has it's normal wear from riding, which is no big deal. It's stock, which I likeHe did put different rear tires on it. Think I'll eventually put ITP Holeshots on it. Shifts sweet and has loads of powerBR>
Around here, you have a mix of utility/work quads for the farms and ranches. Then people like me, who don't have any property to "work", have the sport quads. We don't really ride any technical stuff, so, like you said, it's more speed stuff around here. Even though, we are not speed demonsjust like cruising as a familyAnd yes, the quad is a 4 strokeDon't know why we bought a 2 stroke for the wifeBR>It's funny, my youngest daughter and I were in the spa a couple nights ago. She goes "daddy, I think I'm going to need a new quad real soon"(she has the 70)She even knew what size and color she wantedA 90 that is blueTold her, she'll have to wait until next year. She was actually cool with thatI have great kids
My wife hates it, the kids think like me

you are correct. so when you bench test, put power to the IGNITION terminal to see if it's pushing out the bendix gear.i was only powering up the hot terminal which was only spinning the starter. you must power the ignition terminal to see if the bendix gear is being pushed out.
so anyways, WASTED an entire day on this stupid thing. here's my #1 beef... they sell solenoids for cheap. the solenoid is held on by 3 external torx bolts. it's an odd-ball small size torx, plus, it's external (you need a female torx socket), PLUS there is limited clearance between armature cover and solenoid, so, NOBODY SELLS THE TOOL YOU NEED to take it apart!! DUH! Eventually, I tracked down a Snap-On Tools truck. He had the E-5 External-Torx, DEEP socket (regular socket won't reach). Aaaarrrgghgh! AND, $20 for one socket (what else would you expect from Snap-On).
Okay, so now we can finally remove the Solenoid. (BTW, Idiot parts guy said if i was getting starter motor to spin, then problem HAD to be the bendix drive, NOT the solenoid. i tried to argue, but he disagreed. he's WRONG, Creator is correct ) I see the cheap plastic fork is broken, that the solenoid activates to engage the bendix drive. so, all i need is the fork. NOBODY SELLS THE FORK!! None of the parts guys, and GM doesn't sell a single part for these starters.
Off to 3 starter/motor rebuild shops to see if they have the fork. the one Chinese guy brings it up on computer screen; the exact part i need. i think he's helping me and his phone rings and he spends the next 30 minutes jabbering away in Chinese to someone, obviously a personal call, while i stand in his face staring at him. he gets off phone, no apology, looks around, says he doesn't have the part. I ask how much, and when can he get it in. He only wants to sell me an exchange for $125, when he now knows i only need a $5 part to make mine perfect. what an ignorant jerk. I will never deal with them again, ever, and will tell everyone i know to avoid them . I wish i knew how to crap through his mail slot.
so my dad (Ford Parts manager) managed to scrounge me a fork, i put it back together, and everything is fine. putting it back in veh isn't bad, but getting the wires properly connected and separated is a huge pain in the A$$!! touch wood (not that wood Toyo!!) it keeps working.
so for a day of lost wages and a $20 tool, it works great. glad i saved the $200 from Parts store (I think?), only cost me $500 in wages. STOOPID!
Having the fork break is pretty rare but I have seen it a couple of times. Glad you were able to fix her up

I spread the Gospel (hehehe) over in Toy Haulers (now talk about some eye opening stuff on guys getting REAL empty weights!), Towing and Tow Vehicles. I'm heading over there after I post this. There are some very knowlegable guys over there. That was where that post came from about the guy killing someone with his truck/trailer.
Morning Ritual at Work:
Read Email (tape back-up report, Dilbert cartoon, maybe something else.)
Check out Groklaw.net (for information on The SCO Group vs. IBM.)
Come here. Usually check out the CA thread in Where to Ride, this thread, Enviro forum, and Duning.
Next I'm off to RV.net forums. Posted those 3 I go through earlier.
Log in to home machine and read email at home.
Chat a little on IRC and Yahoo.
Go home.
Might do some work in there. LOL. Yesterday I was lost...the ISP had major FUBAR. It's up this morning.

Creator, wife made it 2 blocks today on way to school with the kids. now it's stalled on the side of the road with the 4-ways on, in heavy fog. MD, The Z400 is a sweet ride. I ride with a guy that has one and he loves it. great trail machine. He has Holeshot H-D all the way around on ITP T9 Baja wheels. and he has a Rekluse Auto Clutch in it wich he swears by. You can never Stall out the motor. wich is nice in technical trails. Been a pretty good bike for him. he has had a couple issues with wires in the harness rubbing togther and wearing the insulation off and shorting. no biggy.
Confucious. I can take my raptor wherever anymachine goes. It just might not be pretty although it can be pretty funny However i have plans to obtain a 4x4 of sorts. I really want a rhino but may just get like a grizz or sompin.

Toyo, I have no doubt yer a good rider and can go anywhere, i just figured you'd rather be pinned on the beach or going full throttle somewhere (which you won't see me doing). I didn't think you'd enjoy a slow trail ride. and if you pin it on trails where you don't have a clue what's coming the other way, well, that's not good either.. just a statistic waiting to happen. unfortunately, waiting to take someone innocent aswell doesn't register well in my books (not saying you would, just it could happen on the skinny/bushy/blind trails).

Skinner and Toyo, any suggestions on sand tires for the Z400? I don't want something that's going to give a rough ridelike side by side motion, etc. I'm not to concerned about the rear tires, but, looking for a front tire that will make turning a little easierLeft shoulder isn't what it used to beHad to get a brace for itHoping it will help out while I go on my "sissy" ridesI know straight paddles are for straight runs and the "v" pattern help in cornering and side hilling. Also, want something lightoing through the new Rocky Mountain catalog I just got in the mail.
Also, got the shaft by Suzuki, can't find aftermarket wheels for our 160Confused, you know any make out there that is a cross over? Bolt pattern is 4/112. Even if I have to drill out an existing bolt pattern. Tried calling several dealers who sell tires, no such luckYamaha couldn't find anything for me eitherIf a bolt pattern is 4/110 and I have 4/112, will drilling out the 4/110 work to get it to a 4/112? A blaster wheel is 4/110. I am pi$$ed

I'm running GBC Sand Sharks on the rear and stock knobbies up front. The dunes aren't the Warrior's strong point. 6th gear for everything it's worth is about 45MPH. 55MPH is the dirst speed. Those the paddles are 2" shorter so that's where most of the loss is from. Just abotu all of the manuf. make a front sand tire. If you are looking to help turn (obviously) get one of the solid ribbed ones. I'd hazard a guess to post in the Dune forum.

Im like a GNCC racer. I stick to the woods man. I ride in the dunes a lil but i pretty much stay on the trails. My raptor only goes 60mph Its geared for woods. and i have big tires and full body armor and so forth. Woods woods woods. The whole fun of it is seein how fast you can go without hitting a tree.. I hit trees and try to go up stuff there is no way yer goin up and so on. our trails are 48" wide in the state land On the ranch we enjoy the luxurious 8'6 wide trails And when i am flying down the trail i am always in (out of) control I can stop if somepins goin on and i look ahead if its blind i will slow and haul arse when i can see I dont really enjoy crashin with other people. only have 1 time on the quads and it was close to not bein pretty. Head on except it was his head on with myswing arm skid plate or rear tires See i was commin at this jump one way and my brother the other and neither knew the other was goin at it and next thing he knew i was 20' in the air commin down on him and he pinned the throttle laid off the side and spun out and i landed and left tire marks down his handlebar pad, tank, seat, and fender. didnt hit him though. so ever since then i pretty much check stuff out before i do stupid stuff BR>

MD I got sandstars on my rap for sand. And the rear tires get ALLOT OF TRACTION and the fronts as weel. Like side hilling the face of a steep dune I just drive straight across the face where as my buddy with his Hauler extremes could let the rear end drop down and slide the face. the fronts turn pretty easy but beware where you point them you go unless their not touchin the ground (wich is most the time on the rap with tractor gears) in such case beware more I will be gettin some hauler 8 paddles for the next time i hit the dunes so i can actually spin my tires. to keep the straight paddles from rocking side to side its important to line up the paddles. if the bolt pattern doesnt get eme lined up pull the hub and rotate it on the axle. and if your an old man with a weenie shoulder like me just get a steering stabilizer then you atleast dont get the bars ripped out your hands and it definatley dampens the bump steer. and for your LT160 or whatever gett differnt hubs?
Posted by: rescuediver
Thanks for the reply guysI have haulers on the mojave and like them alot. I do line both sides up, so they are in tuneWife has sand skates on her quad, they are lined yp also, but, it still shudders at low speeds Toyo, didn't think of a steering stabilizer, will look into it.
I thought of changing the hubs out. Will have to find out what will fit the axle. Thanks againOff to the dealership
Posted by: BlackandRedWarrior
Mine shudders/vibrates/whatever you want to call it at low speed. A lot of paddles are going to do it. Especially at Pismo where the sand is harder. It's just going from tip of the paddle to the tire body. At speed you just don't feel it. It's REALLY bad if I'm down cruising the water line where you max out at 15MPH.
Posted by: OneFlyCowboy
Man i dunno. I noticed when cruisin the parkin lot at about 15mph the started to smoothout on the asphalt all paddles and gonns shudder at low speed that just means your goin to slow

hey, tell me about it. it's a huge embarrassment to the whole country. And the real trajedy is, we run 50/50 as a country on the death penalty ( maybe a percent or 2 more in support of it), so the freakin' bleeding hearts win again. they did an episode on Law and Order that portrayed all Canadians as bleeding hearts, over someone we wouldn't extradite due to him possibly facing the death penalty. It infuriated me to be portrayed that way when it's barely half the people in our country. I like China's system of putting a bullet in their head within a week of the trail, which is about a month after the crime. img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-happy.gif" border="0">
I remember when we kept Charles Eng forever, what a waste. for what he did, you guys shoulda fried him, but our country blew it. how shameful. WHat really picks me is that BOTH our countries claim you're innocent until proven guilty. so who the he!! are we to guess what'll happen to the guy?? He's innocent and hasn't been convicted of anything. if he committed a crime in his own country and IF he's found guilty, where do we get off trying to tell another country what to do AFTER they've been found guilty??? we should be sending you back an innocent man, and your system can deal with him as they deem appropriate.

welcome LVracer. most of us poor boys have the older Ford PSDs. interesting to hear your pa was concerned the Duramax wouldn't cut it cuz of braking. there are electric brakes on the trailer, so i wonder why he was concerned? let us know how your pappy feels about the pulling power/towing compares on the 2 vehicles. i'd be real curious to know.

Ok I will, we were going to get F350 Dualie or Chevy Dualie, but my dad would have to drive that around town as his main vehicle, and that would be a pain the butt. But when he heard this new F350 was coming out, that they changed alot of the specs he checked it out, then he ordered. We have been waiting about 4 weeks, we wish we would of gotten it this past Monday so we can go the whole weekend at Dumont, but we are just doing a day trip tommorow (friday).

I couldn't agree with you moreOn Ng, he committed his crimes in a county not to far from us. If the state didn't pick up his trial tab. The county would of went bankrupt. And would still be trying to recover

I'm not a big leather fan myself... But the only car I ever had experience with leather was my granny's Chrysler Cordoba. Those seats we so friggin slick. You just slid right across them. And that was when granny was driving too!
Weight nazi ehh? Umm...just check you weights. Be careful. Be safe. And stay the hell out of CA if you're overweight. LOL
Posted by: OneFlyCowboy
Yeah. I'd get a permit to run overweight anyhow ya know the Lowbed is only good to 105,500 but they permit ya on non reducable loads. They was hauling single rocks 100,000 lb rocks by permit out to the Jedi at westport.. Big freakin rocks.

Also the army Corps of Engineers can Throw a sticker on your truck and the weigh cops cant stop you and you can haul however much weight. Emergency work is sweet.

okay Adolph (or should i say Attila??), this is where we're on opposite sides of the spectrum. So here i've spoiled my kids with quads, bikes, etc.., spend time with them riding, camping, & many other family things. When they behave like idiots; they get punished. they are being raised to be accountable for their actions. so let's say one or all of them have some rebellious gene, or are overly-influenced by punk school-mates, or free-thinking spirit school-teachers. they screw up, and i disown them. I should bear the responsibilty of their actions, despite my best efforts? I will always believe INDIVIDUALS make decisions and should take responsibility for their actions. your system will encourage the kid to keep behaving like a punk, because mom and dad will be responsible for what I do, not me, so I can carry on being a punk. And they achieve what they want, which is to be rebellious and get mom and dad riled up. you did lots of stupid stuff as a kid, so did I. Is that your parents fault or responsibility? So using your logic, if a criminal is American, we should punish all Americans?? NOT!
now, I see parents who worship their kids and blame everyone else, and the kids take zero responsibilty. kid runs out into traffic on busy road, mid block, gets hit by car and parents are ready to lynch the driver. sorry, your kid is stupid, or had a brain fart... don't blame somebody else. have him take responsibilty and accept the consequences of that dumb action. those parents I'd like to knock some sense into.
okay, i guess you park in the rainforest. try CA where it's 110-120 with the windows rolled up so nobody steals your visor. then you open the oven door and sit on the leather in your GQ tennis shorts and Izod Lacoste monogrammed shirt. yep, i can see you climbing outta the box from Pulp Fiction and crawling like a dog, while you enjoy your Dominatrix. for an educated man, you don't read or comprehend too well. WHat i asked was: WHY DIDN"T YOU PICK A MODEL THAT ALREADY HAD LEATHER, cuz the re & re costs big dough. Hey there Short fuse boy, take some prozak I said punish the parents tooo!!! The kid gets his. None of this tried as a juvinile. YUour ass is tried as an adult from day one. and mommy and daddy should be liable for their degenerate child. not as but they need a spank for not givin the spank. If the parents are good parents their child shouldnt be commiting acts which would jeperadize their freedom as well. Public Floggings or some sort of public humuliation would be sufficient. dunce caps, scarlet letters, Paste em with tomatoes. Think of the increase in market for the tomatoe farmer when they are gettin a buck a tomatoe for the public spaltter BR>

EXACTLY! the console gets in the way of the road-job. OR, if you need to seat 6 people (which was the case for me at the time). the leather bench is just as nice with the flop down armrest. ya, i saw a king ranch and it was a beaut.
on the parents issue, we should just agree to disagree. I'm right, you're wrong! lookin at yer old photos and listening to your stories, you must have been a wild one. Was that your parents fault? Sure wasn't my parents fault i made some of the decisions i made, and i knew right from wrong. (of course, i was always willing to accept the consequences of my actions).
Hoss, i go back to my original comment, that you have way too much $$.... but I'm really just envious that it's not me that can afford all that luxury.
Weedman, i see you've been smokin the rope of BC Bud (best bud in the world). i own a Chevy and i know every tow truck driver on a first name basis. it has made me a far better mechanic. i really do need the model with the heated dutch doors though.

I'm actually quite taken with the 40/20/40 bench in the 150. Do wish it was cloth instead of the vinyl. But that vinyl cleans up so nice and easily when you get muddy riding. And the black vinyl floor...speed it out...hit it with a sponge/rag/whatever. Ready to go. No more spending 30 min. on each side of the truck trying in vain to get the damn Pismo sand out of the carpet.
Oh yeah...stickers and hat came some time in the last...umm...2...3 weeks. LOL. Yeah, I don't check the mail all that often.

The projector mounts on the ceiling about 18-20' away. Pretty pimp set up.........You need to do this on the side of the trailer

In today's society, the parents don't do enough parenting. They expect society to do the raising for them. In some regards, the parents should be held responsible for some of their kids actions. However, for the most part, it's "your choice" to make the decision, to become a menace to society and that parents, can't control there kids 100%. Just look at kids of ministers, doctors, lawyers, Law Enforcement, etc.
And Toyo, I prefer the bench seatfor rolling companionship

hey MD, was it your fat-a$$ on the Mojave that caused the frame to crack? that's scary!! I guess i don't inspect close enough to see the cracks, or look for them. I better look closer.

I'm sorry Toyo, I forgot you were so angelic. yep, your storys about driving 200MPH+, or numerous drunken driving episodes (without charges) were all angelic activities that wouldn't have ever resulted in charges. nor would the possession of happy-lettuce ever resulted in your parents being punished for your actions. I think you have selective amnesia. I've already admitted I made bad decisions that had nothing to do with my parents. oh well, i heard of some book that says, "let he amoung us that has never sinned cast the first stone". i guess that's why you yearn for the gallows so much, so you can toss the first bucket of tomatoes. BR>
too funny Hoss.. "I need a hug"... 'shorty's growing a beard' got his once a month special hug this AM, so ya woulda thot I'd be in a great mood!
MD, i've had lotsa friends who's parents were cops and the stuff they did was so over the top, rebellious, whatever, and the parents were strict. to punish those parents for what their kids did would have been tragic. the embarassment the cop parent suffers is probably way worse than any punishment imposed by a pu$$y legal system (except that would probably be the one time the courts would punish severely).

Finally, i changed my compressor from 1/4" line to 3/8" line, used a pipe wrench on the knuckle, and then hit it with the impact gun again and it came off. and i had to go buy a 1-7/8" socket for the nut. that stuff only comes in 3/4" drive.
this will be my third seal in 55,000 miles (factory one, 1 replacement, and this one). Ford did the last one. I'm also replacing the yoke in case there's a burr or groove on it (almost the same price as a speedy sleeve). Have any of you guys had problems with your rear diff leaking? I got 4:10 gears and dually; i don't know if that makes any diff at all.
you might have a couple of other issues with the diff IF the yoke does not have a groove in it. Maybe a worn pinion bearing or driveshaft that is out of balance/worn u joints. Three seals in 55K is not normal for any rear diff.

weLL i see the spirits from CA (also known as dumb and dumber are trying to pick on the poor lil 'ol Canadian again. i should know better than to expect any respect from anyone on this trash-talkin thread.
so we finally pounded the yoke off the splined pinion shaft. And i thought the nut was hard to remove. putting the seal in was really tricky too, cuz it's such a flimsy metal backing that's easy to damage. there was a slight groove worn around the old yoke. also, the seepage was very obvious at the bottom of the seal so i don't think it would have been the other things you suggested.
creator your new set-up sounds great. hope it doesn't keep you off the quad.

the only thing I can think of that would be worse is to admit you're from the queerville capital of the world: Pacific Nortrhwest, or Seattle area = Sin-City. Rev. Lovejoy has warned us about that area. In his last sermon he said God did an enima of North America, and that's where he stuck the tube!! hahahahaha!!

Hey, my wife is buying me a 2005 mossy oak Sportsman 700 efi v-twin. And you are right, Heidi is a keeper if she'll do that for her man. I guess I better start thinking of getting the woman something for Christmas. Maybe I'll buy her a broom, a mop, and a new vacuum.

I had a 2002 7.3 litre ford f-250 and hated it--- The injectors went on it twice and i spun 2 turbos--- would have cost alot of money if it was not warranty--- good thing i was close to home---- plus very hard to start in cold temps-- even plugged in

you pervert! what's with the new avatar of you kissing your boyfriend? I don't wanna see that queer-crap, maybe those CA fellers dig it cuz they're used to seeing it all the time and sometimes practice it themselves, or Toyo cuz he's a closet-kind... but not here in the heartland of Springfield! img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-sad.gif" border="0">

did all these problems happen on a 100% stock engine, or did you have a chip or other mods (please detail) ?
a buddy with a newer Ford 6.0 L has gone through 2 engines in less than 40,000 miles, BUT, has 100HP chip, which he uses pulling a load... both no-nos I'm told.

Hoss, only one-toothed hillbillies from Arkansas like the mossy-oak/camo look. are you now the great white hunter?? did you have the majority of what's left of your brain surgically removed? and that avatar has to go, CYBIL!
oh, BTW Stalker, who's Heidi?? are you stalking her too? How can an ewe go out and buy a quad??

I'll agree with confucious. The many faces of Hoss, Stalker, Cybill, Honey Dew the Ewe although maybe i wont.. lol. whats wrong with the camo quad?!!! I'll be the great white hunter and put a paintball in your .... well well.

And hey dude, did you guys win the first half bowling title or what? you're home awfully early for winning the 'ship. did you find an 50+ y/o cougar that drunk, that early?? pssst.. send her home in a cab now, before she remembers where you live or what you look like. img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-shocked.gif" border="0">
Hoss, I'm confused. why not buy the one product that Polaris is the best at making = snowmobile??? ya already gotta couple quads, what you NEED is a snow machine. and Polaris doesn't offer one in the hideous camo.
I just took the quad/snowmobile deck off my truck, and put the vinyl rollcover back on. i like it way better than a tonneau cover cuz you can roll it up to haul gravel, sand, rock, fridge, whatever. better than a canopy that way too. not as leak proof though. I REALLY like the hard cover that slides back and stacks, but it was double the $$, and i just don't have the kind of $$ that creator, MD and Hoss have.

Yeqah we won the first quarter title. and we are well on the way for the second quarter, all the the slot in the finals if we take the qaurter goes to the second place team. our goal is to take all 4 quarters this year. wich would get us an extra few hundred bucks apiece. all said n done if we win the year we should be able to pull in 6 or 700 bucks. apiece

$700 bucks won't pay your bar bill for a month!!! Maybe when you run around the alley with your "Champion" badge on you can find some 50 plus hottie with big bucks to take up the slack
Posted by: OneFlyCowboy
Yeah 700 bucks barely covers the cost of 36 weeks of bowling at 15 bucks a week. then ya got a bar bill minimum 360 bucks for the season. but then agin its about 20 bucks a night. 1 pitcher 1 shot and Chicken strips with fries. 20 bucks. then cards it can be about a 40 dollar night at the alley and usually is.

actually, i've always thought the stars and stripes looks really cool, like on Easy Rider. I just saw another guy's pics and he had a sport model quad (Predator??) done in the stars and stripes, and it looked cool. but, red, white and blue look good together, even when it's not done in the US Flag motif. to the contrary, various shades of green, beige, brown and yellow look a lot more like vomit!!! img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-sad.gif" border="0">img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-cool.gif" border="0"> It just looks too vietnam/army to me. but hey, if i think it's hideous, then it must be beautiful, cuz I'm from Pinko-land and must be a draft-dodging commie-type. Hoss, I have not warmed to your avatar. I don't see how i was ever really off topic in that raptor thread. she said to assk a question. So i did. then motox aquesed her of impostering and then i told him to knock it off then some jackass posts that his 250r is the bidness and then the other boys bashed his butt into the dirt then she said we was rude the dancing queen told her she was wuiss. thats life i guess. I had no part of highjacking. I just thought it was funny wherever i go and post it just blows up.

Confucuious there is nothin wrong with the camo model. SHEESH you canadians. you would prolly want a PINK quad in they made one.

hey, we got just as many toothless, redneck, backwood hillbilly hicks as you have, that buy the camo model and then wear their battle fatigues while they ride it around pretending they're Rambo. (did you know the 1st [and best] Rambo flick was filmed in Hope,B.C., where we go riding all the time???). . okay, you guys are right and I'm wrong. It is really preference and I just don't like, but hey, lotsa guys probably don't like red or blue for their quads either, and those are almost the only colors I like on quads (and black).

I really dont care what color anything is.. lol im colorblind anyway so what i see you dont see anyhow I wish there was an easy way to paint ball on quads. hunt em down and shoot the crap outta them

Let me tell you, when the electrical was done for the electric brake, they did a pi$$ poor jobthere is actually 2 black boxes in the same general area, that also, look alike. Well, one was just laying on the fender well, dangling therehe other, was put in upside downfter figuring this out, I removed the relays, cleaned them(had dust on them) put them where they belonged. And walla, have power to charge the batteriesWhat I did learn was, on the 7 prong plug, the prong in the 7 o'clock position powers the battery charger from the truck, and that it only works, with the key in the "on" positionI like how my chevy was, just plug it innd let the truck charge the battery over night while camping. O' well, with my new set up(thanks to Confused) I hope I won't need to charge it as muchBR>

MD, I'm gonna pat myself on the back for curing your charging system woes, cuz I've been saying all along it's those 2 relays (you call them black boxes, but i got one of those at home and it's a lot different... i do the plugging in there
it should ONLY EVER charge while the ignition is on. if it did it while off, it will drain your main batteries. you never want the charge wire to work while the vehicle is off.it's the alternator generating current that does the charge for ya. is it the 5 or 7 oclock position?? you just checked, so I'll trust your judgement, but i thought it was the 5 o'clock spot.
Hoss, once again you proved me wrong. suddenly army green looks fabulous. it's not camo tho, if it was camo, it'd be beige like her skin color.

okay pal, you're ready for the last pebble of wisdom i have to offer = SOLAR PANELS!! never have to worry about dead batteries again. they are coming down in price a lot. and they are way more tree-hugger friendly cuz ya don't burn any gas or make any noise like ya do with the generator. Plus there's some rumor that CA has a little more sunshine than the 'wet-coast'. they do work in virtually any daylight condition. I'll bet someone like harbor freight carries a cheap version. but whatever you do, make sure you get at least 2 AMPS of charging power. most of them are rated in Watts, so you'd need 75watts?? Amps X volts =watts, so you should be able to figure it out from there. i think most guys try for a 75W system. SKINNER!! you should know this answer! HELP! How many watts would you need to make 2 amps on a 12V system?? I guess if i remeber the formula correctly, it should be a 25 watt panel, but that seems low.(more amps would be better tho). and, i think the more powerful solar panel will still charge in less than ideal conditions, whereas something that neds max sunlight to do produce 2 amps would be underpowered on rainy or cloudy days. thats probably why 75W sticks in my head.
Posted by: BlackandRedWarrior
Technically it's 24Watts = 2A @ 12VDC.
Yeah, I'm with everyone else...don't charge without the truck running. Esp. with the diesels...you need all the amps you have to turn the beasts over. Our F-450 has a hot pin all the time, which we have to be careful with our hydraulic trailer...it tends to suck the truck battery dry.
Though, if you REALLY want some power, get a winch power cable extension. We have one on the flat bed. It's a big plug on the back of the truck that we connect to a winch on this little small flip trailer we have (I call it the Pogo Stick Trailer...dam thing bounces around without a load!) Probably has a 4AWG pair of wires that run from the batt back there. The connector is kind like what the tow trucks have for their jumpers.
Posted by: Whitewater
I have a solar panel on my trailer...however, I didn't unhook it from the batteries last winter and it dried them up. I would only use it when you are out in the bush.
Posted by: confusedbuyer
i got the auxillary idle control on my PSD. diesel mechanic gave it to me. you can dial in what ever RPM you want truck to idle at, plus it's more accurate tach. plus if you run a pto or other equipment, you can dial in higher rpm and idle it higher to keep batteries charged. OR... if ya really want your fellow campers to hate ya, set the idle control at 2100 rpm with trailer plugged in , to charge up the batteries. huh? what? I can't hear ya over screaming engine? ohhh, you don't like the smell either? what, i can't hear ya?
so probably a 50W solar system would be good enough to keep batts charged.

you can get a charge protector to prevent overcharging you fool. but don't feel bad... I kinda did the same thing. i left my trailer plugged in too often and it also overcharges the batts. i finally figured it out: don't overcharge them, and keep your eyes on the fluid levels in each cell.

I was on a week-long adventure when I discoverd that my batteries where 1.5 gallons short of the the wet stuff.
Posted by: BlackandRedWarrior
Didn't I post all the battery related stuff like 2weeks to a month ago when MD first asked about it?
Just do a google search on RV batteries or something like that. Play with it. Then read up on stuff. That is the nice thing about CA...lots of sun....well...don't look out my window. I think we've had about 1 hr of sunshine in the last week. There's a big move on to move to solar or put in solar around here. City of Fresno covered their bus terminal at the city corp. yard with solar panels.
Here's a stupid CA thing for you though. You can cover your roof in solar panels, but you STILL have to put a white roof type system UNDER it. Solar panels aren't a listed roof system.

Yeah, batteries were the last thing I thought about. What sucks is the batteries are only a year and a half old. Hey, I think my work needs more batteries for the golf cart. I'll just use them temporarily until they need them back.

Well, on my Chevy, it was built in to shut down whatever is drawing power, when it gets to the point where the battery won't turn over.
HHmmm, I have a winch cable in the garageollecting nothing but dusthat will be another project though. Right now, I have too many irons in the fireimg src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-sad.gif" border="0">

well, cuz our jobs don't give us access to taking home 40lbs of seized contraband, or a few handguns, or any of the other real interesting stuff. hey wait a sec MD, we wouldn't whine if ya took home a criminal and made him paint your house, or if ya put him thru a couple of hours of the home torture chamber.
in my case, i'd only be taking items from myself. that's no fun or challenge.

It's called a "Fringe Benefit."j/k. However, when they don't give out raises for 3-years, you have to start nailing things down...people tend to think that the company "owe's them." Hell, I'm not saying that I haven't "borrowed" a thing or two, but I'm just happy that I still have a job in manufacturing. It seems like everything is going to China or Canada.

went for a 5-6 hour ride today. the '02 Honda 250 ran like CRAP!! and those @#%&*# Honda engineers make it impossible to adjust the fuel mixture screw. you totally burn your hands IF you try to get anywhere near that screw. one side is covered by exhaust pipe, the other by the head and some tubes. either way you get burned and scraped.(it's UNDER the carb, not on the side like the idle screw). it just kept stalling, then needed to be choked all the time. not getting the fuel i guess, but i just totally cleaned carb, just don't have mixture quite right.now i got it 2-1/2 turns out which seems like a lot, but may not be enough judging by how crappy it 's running.
so you'd be trying to feather a technical spot, or at times, hitting it hard to get the momentum to get you thru an off-camber ugly spot that 2wd wouldn't normally get thru, and it'd die. it was dangerous and scary. naturally, i had to use this thing all day and 9 y/o got to ride the 4x4 Kodiak 450. got some great pics that I'll post later. think i may need to adjust the valves too. man, my Honda manual can't arrive soon enough. lotsa fun, but soooo frustrating having to winch the Honda thru all the good spots, or lift and push. i'll zonk well 2nite.

LOL, Glad you know who YOUR DADDY is
That suxs on the HondaI take it, that engine sits cockeyed in the frame, all twisted and suchWhen we roade up by Yosemite, I avoided anything technicalecause of the same reasons. Power was not being delivered just right, when I needed it. But, somedays, that's all part of playing

RCMP still have the "musical ride", which is the show they do wearing their red-serge uniforms and trooper-hats. they're all RCMP members and they commit to the ride for a couple years. A friend of mine is 60ish and he did a stint in the musical ride as a 20ish y/o. He said it was a big time chick magnet. they only do the shows for fairs, special occasions, touristy crap.
the regular rcmp wear a plain, regular uniform and a hat like the cop avatar, not the red uni and trooper hat one that's your stereo-typical image of the RCMP. they carry a 9mm (i think). I know they whined a lot to upgrade their old 38 service revolvers. the irony is it cost tons of $$$$ to upgrade, and if you ask, most have never drawn their weapon, and even fewer have ever fired it in the line of duty. this isn't Watts, we don't have a lot of drive-bys or gun fights. whether i get shot with a 38 or 9mm, i figure both will hurt enough, so i don't challenge the law.
funny tho, the Vancouver City police regularly have a handful of cops on horses. and 2 years ago, there were about 5 quads (Suzuki Eigers) doing beach patrol. you shoulda heard the outcry! people are clueless and stupid. they envisioned the cops ripping around at high speed making noise and dust. actually, when going slow, a 4-stroke is almost silent, and they never rip around. and both horses, atvs and mountain bikes get ya places you'd never get a squad car to. the mountain bikes are real scary cuz they are silent. gotta be in pretty good shape to ride those all day tho.
the Honda engine is mounted sideways, but it's the under-carb location of the fuel screw vs. side/accessable location that irks me. you can't tweak it for elvation or at all while you're out riding. it ruins the ride when you're about to try the trickiest part of your ride that could result with you under the quad if the quad doesn't perform right, and you can't trust the quad to perform. I'm hoping a valve adjustment will help too.
what were you riding at Yosemite that was giving you fits? not the new quad???

I hate this computer sometimesI typed a reply, and of course, it wasn't shorthit one of the keys and POOF, it's gone AArrrggggBR>
As I was saying, I think every dept has a dog and pony show. I know, our mounted unit is the dept's. pride and joy.
Switching over to new weapons is a costly adventure for depts. When my dept. went to Glocks, the switch over cost $250,000. Not a cheap venture. But, worth it. Like you said though, it hurts no matter what your hit with. I can attest to thatBR>
When we were riding up by Yosemite, I didn't have the Z400 yetI was riding the mojave. I have a K&N on it and the jet in it, is rated for 0'-3500'. We were up around 5,000' that day. I could of messed with the carb settings, but, decided not too. I avoided the technical stuff for the same reasons you mentionedBR>
This week will be the first time I will have the Z400 out for some good ridingIt should be sweetWife saw it yesterday for the first time. She also saw the $600 sand tires next to it was amazed she didn't say anything about themWhew, I was sweating it

You should always carry one in a inconspiculous spot [sp]. So, when you run out, you have "the one" that will "do the job"
In reality, if you need that one extra bullet, your in a world of hurtAfter the Infamous bank shoot out in L.A. we went to AR15's in our patrol carsBR>

great point Creator; if you knew you only had ONE bullet, you'd make sure you practised more to make sure you were a better shot. so how many times have the AR15's been fired in LOD by you guys? Never? AND HEY, why the one extra bullet, i thot that's what the extra gun was for.BR>
well the Grey Cup game was today, BC vs. Toronto. We hate eastern Canada, we hate Toronto. Toronto has our horrible old quaterback Damon Allen (Marcus Allen's brother). He sucked when he was here and i despised him. So what does he do? plays the one good game of the year, we don't... he gets MVP and they win Cup. I'm soooo bitter. It'll be a long year before we get some revenge. our idiot coach punts on 3rd and 5 with 2 minutes left, down by 8 pts (we only have 3 downs, this is Cdn football). we never saw the ball again. our defence had been porous all game. what was he thinking??? he also sat the league MVP (Casey Printers, QB) for the entire game (way too long of a story to ramble about here). AAAAAAARRRRGGGHHHH FFFF.........KKKKK!!! Waaaaaaa!!

I know it was a big thing when Clovis went from their old trusty Colt 45s to a Glock 10mm. Not sure on the model number. At the same time they went to an all dark blue uniform (previously had a light blue shirt...now the CSOs where them) and changed over to nylon web belts. No longer could you hear them 100' away squeeking.
I'm not sure what kind, if any, of a dog and pony show Clovis has. I've only seen them dressed up one time. Dec. '01 when Pelco created the CA 9/11 monument or whatever it was. They chartered a Jet from NY to Fresno (maybe more than one) and brought NYPD & NYFD, etc. officers and their families out. It was a huge thing. The monument is basically a 60' flag pole with a flag that weighs in at like 60lbs. Fresno & Clovis FDs each brought a ladder truck out and hung a flag between them, then there was all sort of other equipment around. That was pretty sweet. Never seen so much blue in my life.
Didn't ride this weekend. Wanted to. Hosted a friend, his woman and her friend up at the Company Condo. It's was a bit noisy to sleep.
We had breakfast this morning next to the highway leading to Miami Creek....I almost started crying like a baby watching all the toys go up the highway... Would have had more fun riding than what I did do. LOL
Posted by: BlackandRedWarrior
I think Clovis started adding some extra firepower. Came home one time from an ex's place next to Pismo to find a police officer packing an AR-15 using my mom's car as a shield...not a comforting feeling when you come home from some head case's house... (Someone set off an M-80 at the house across the street and the place had history...dude's wife shot him in the head a while back.)
I was thinking...ok...crud...I know I was speeding...but really...is an assult weapon REALLY necessary?
Though Clovis PD tends to be a good shot. The dude that killed the girl in Fresno's Tower District that sparked the 3 Strikes Law was "taken care of" by a Clovis officer. He thought he'd use a woman as a shield trying to leave an apt.

We've never had to discharge one in the line of dutyAnd you are correct, about carrying back up weapons.
Canadian football, really don't follow it (like I had to tell you that)

Well I filled up the truck on my own dime to go up there. Was gonna take the bike and decided not to. Well, getting ready to head up and get...umm...well...talked sternly to by a woman if you know what I mean..and take my truck home and ride with my friend, his gf and her friend. So I was already in a bad mood....

skinner, ya had me all excited that ya didn't sleep well cuz you were too busy makin' farm animal noises with ..."her friend" ( I sure hope her friend was female). after all the abuse Hoss has heaped on ya about your romance life, i thot you could really put him in his place with a loud and proud: "smell my finger!!".... BUT NO!! turns out you're momma chewed you out (that IS the stern talkin to from a woman wasn't it??) and ruined your weekend.
MD, a lotta you guys follow some of your college stars north. Our QB today is Montana'a all-time greatest athlete (as voted on by ?? media??).... Dave Dickenson. and the team that won had Andre Rison for a few games this year.
before you guys crucify me, let me lead with:9/11 was a huge tragedy and so was the huge loss of ALL life. several hundred PD & FD lost their lives in the line of duty which is noble and tragic. it's NOT heroic and it bothers me every time i hear it (over and over again). because they lost their lives in the line of duty, their families will be finacially looked after for the rest of their lives. so why all the fundraising for the PD and FD? what about the 1000s of others who lost their lives, and their families will see no financial assistance whatsoever?? and these folks weren't employed in the high risk FD and PD occupations where you accept risk and danger as part of the day to day job hazard. they were just average working class, many with zero benefits. we hear nothing about their losses. it just seems over the top, and unfair to the 1000s of others. i guess they're not as easily identifiable as a large group. but i thought some of those companies lost 100s of employees. in no way do i disrespect or belittle the losses suffered by the PD/FD, i just think some of the others got it worse with zero recognition.the message seems like the only loss of life that matters is the PD/FD, and if you weren't one of them, then you're just a POS. i just think ALL the losses are EQUALLY tragic, not just one group's losses.
okay, go ahead and let me have it. unload your 10mm Glocks and AR-15s on me. (is AR-15 code for your bra size if you cross-dress?? in that case, I have an AR-20!). WTF do i know, i'm just a pinko-commie Canadian (there's some quote material for ya creator).

Rescue...that was the plan. It's like 15 min from the condo to Miami.
No, I wasn't being b*itched at by my mom. It was the moaner's friend, with moaner right behind her. <insert nagging b*tch noises> I think we are all familiar with that. At least it was nice to wake-up this morning to the sound of the radio...
The only thing that got me into a decent mood was there is now actual cell service at the condo. Gotta love those mega-billion dollar mergers. (Cingular buying AT&T WS).
I hear ya on that confused. Nobody cares about Juan the bus boy at Windows on the World. Though, many of the other people are getting some seriously nice change as well. There was an article not too long ago. I think the avg. payout for most people was well into 7 figures. Though FD, PD & PA workers were getting a bit higher on avg. Hell, some companies were pretty much wiped out.
Posted by: rescuediver
LMAO, Confused, I think it depends on where that finger was last atBR>
On to a more serious matter. I understand and agree with what you guys are saying about the "heros" of 9/11. We also have a memorial for them at our dept. What I have a problem with is, where exactly is all this charity money going too? There must of been millions of dollars donated to the "cause" But, what people don't realize is what Skinner alluded to. the 7 digit payout. Yes, the federal gov't payed out over 1 million dollars to each lost soul's family. It was to help keep insurance companies and businesses from going bankrupt from law suits. In my opinion, they don't need anymore. That is more then enough money to pay for juniors college fund, pay off the house, buy the new boyfriend/girlfriend a new bemmer, etc, etc. And I get tired of hearing about the firefighters that lost their lives. They were doing their jobs, just like the police officers who died. If they ran away, then they were cowards and should not have been in the fieldIt burned me when a rookie firefighter's mother tried sueing the city of NY because her son died, why??? because the building fell. Who would of thought a building would stand very long with thousands of gallons of fuel burning it's inner core. I'm sure he was rolling over in his grave at her suing for him, doing his job. Just like the mother's and father's b!tching about their sons/daughters dying in a war, while being in the military!!! Wake up people!!! that's the profession or better said, the occupation they PICKED to be in at the moment.... No one forced them to join or do it. AAARRRRGGGGGGGGBR>
I'll get off my horse now. MD

YOU HEARTLESS BASTARDSOk well you guys are right As anyone dying (except dirtbags, terrorists, and canadians is a sad thing and hard on people. Police officers, Firemen, Soldiers, Marines, Squids, Average daily Joe dudes drivin their car. There is inherant risk in everything we due. and someone needs to assume responsibility for those risks. Its called personal accountability. Firemen, policemen and soldiers of 3 yr O-1 or E-8 Payscale and Higher are all compensated well for their risks they take. and all this suing crap for people dyin at work WTF. its part of the job they knew about when they signed up. its life!
Posted by: confusedbuyer
well said MD, i wanted to say most of that too, but i was too much of a coward to rock the boat too much, cuz i know how psychotic and sensitive Americans are. I didn't want one of ya coming up here with your right to bear arms and blowing me away.
hey toyo, glad to see Canadians finished 3rd on your list behind terrrorists and dirtbags. But you're right, cuz when yet another of your brain-dead pilots blew up a group of Canadian soldiers, the penalty was he had to eat extra servings of the army food. seriously, he got off with nothing, and he did make a huge error. luckily, they were only Canadians, so no one in the US lost any sleep over it (imagine the outrage had they blown up ONE of their own?).
we are statute-barred from suing our employers. unlike you sue-crazy Americans that sue for anything and everything. most of our provinces have banned lawsuits for MVAs/injuries, unless they're really serious. BUT in exchange for losing your "right" to sue, they pay your full wages, medical and re-training (if necessary) for work injuries. mvas are a little different. but we are always very close behind your litigation monster, asbestos, toxic mold, etc...
