Skinner, that's interesting info you posted from the other site. To bad, it takes a tragedy to get peoples attentionBR>On the insurance, you pick how much coverage you want and that's all the insurance company will payout. And, you don't have control, if, they will pay out or not.
Confused, even if you filed for bankruptcy, you can still be held liable to pay. As long as you keep the claim open, your still entitled to anything, they may procur in the future. Just keep the award alive in the court system.

Well, I still have faith in my dealerimg src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-wink.gif" border="0"> and bought two 6v batteries from himNow, I need to build a box for the 2 batteries. Anyone have any ideas to make both fit in one? I'm thinking about getting a plastic tool box at wally world and custom fit it to cover both batteries, Plus, maybe house my charger tooo keep it out of the elements at Pismo. I know I can use 2 battery boxes, but, these 6v are too tallto fit in right
Here's what I bought:
Interstate 6 Volt Golf/RV Battery Features and Specifications:
6 Volts
Ah (20hr) = 225
RC (25A) = 447
RV (75A) =115
Size: 10.25" L x 7.12" W x 11.12" H
Wet Weight: 63 lbs
Hibernated Weight: 51 lbs
No of Plates: 57
Cover/Case Color: Gray/White

sounds great on the batts. that link of skinners gave real simple hook up instructions. i put my 6V in battery cases with the lid you hold down with a cheesy nylon strap. the strap goes around the case, lid and metal frame on the trailer ( the frame the batts. sit on). ALSO, I drilled holes in the bottom of the plastic cases to let water drain out. the case lids have breather holes on top, so water gets in, but it's okay if it drains out.
be careful of leaving your trailer plugged into a 110 outlet while batts are hooked up. it will overcharge them and dry out the cells. AND, make sure you occasioanlly check the water level in each cell. you'll be surprised by how much those go down. don't overfill, look at the level now so you know where it should be when it's time to add distilled water.
yes, we did the male species proud on our assessment of Mutha. we're healthy males, what can we say. and if i was mutha, i'd take it as a compliment.BR>
on ins, that's my point. the guys co. paid out his limit of coverage. what more did he expect?

Yes creator thats what i mean. Hoss for instance when he quites workin out for a couple years, ohhh man, will he ever have some nice man boobs. All the guys i know that bulked way up or did roids now have Man boobs. once you quit usin the muscles they turn to blubber. what are boobies? Blubber and mammary glands. yea well give a man a lil estrogen coctail and see what comes outt his boobies DOH really the only differences between men and women Is when we got that testosterone hit around 6months of age in the womb. Testosterone makes a man a man. I could go into great detail on the development of life in the womb if you wish. Funny lil thing also one can tell who which child has more athletic incilinations right off the bat. look at your hands. When you are that lil fetus and you get your testosterone it causes yoru ring finger to elongate. Notice if you not a girly man your ring finger will be longer than your index finger Look at a womans hand her ring finger should be shorter than her index duie to lack of testosterone. Now if her ring finger is longer she is prolly a man biatch and very athletic But with that often comes fertility problems. its all very kewl stuff

Personally I don't think the ins. company should have paid out. Though, I don't think they should have insured him in the first place. It's the whole fact that the hardly any people know about the law. And if they do, they just ignore it. It's in situations like his where you find out real quick.
Part of the problem is the weight game with the truck manufacturers. They all try and out do each other. Of course the RV trailer companies just keep making them bigger and bigger so it leads back to people wanting a pickup with higher ratings to tow these Taj Mahals on wheels.

Oh, what do you guys do to winterize your trailer? Do you blow out the water lines or use propylene glycol? I have been using antifreeze, but have thought about using air. Also, do you guys take the batteries out during the winter or just leave them in?
Posted by: confusedbuyer
blow out the lines. remember to disconnect inlet side of 12V pump and blow it out (gets water outta pump and prevents crack/freeze damage there). leave taps open for winter=expansion. put some antifreeze in the traps (sinks). NEVER had problems by blowing out lines.
the glycol is a pain and costs $$. if you pump it thru system, takes forever to flush out.
Posted by: confusedbuyer
the mistakes i've made with batts is leaving them hooked up when i plug in trailer. they get way overcharged and start to cook the cells. you are better off taking them out and charging them 1-2 times over the winter. warm storage (or garage) is way better for them.
Posted by: Whitewater
I have always just used antifreeze. It does cost a fortune. I need to have my employer, um...I mean, I need to go buy a compressor. How cold does the winter get in Vancouver?

It snowed last night (didn't stick at my elevation), and it's about 40 outside right now. Burrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr. We already have 5 ft or so higher up. I believe Brighton (Ski Resort) opened today, and a bunch more will open in a week or so (I have 4 ski resorts within 20 minutes of my house - Deer Valley, Park City, The Canyon's and Sundance). It's too bad I can't afford to ski at any of them.

I got me a very sore throat too. Yesterday I had Uvulopalatoplasty surgery on my throat and a tonsillectomy. very fun stuffBR>Uvulopalatoplasty is were the doctor cuts the little thingy that hangs down in the back of your month and removes most of the upper palate to increase breathing.

we get 1-2 days of snow per year, and they usually melt with rain within 2-3 days of that. maybe 1 week of barely below freezing, but lots of rain. but when we get a good snow it's so entertaining to watch all the asian drivers play bumper cars. they all own Mercedes, Infiniti, Porsche SUVs, for that one day of snow per year. and then they think 4x4 means you can stop faster on ice!! i've driven up north a fair amount and can drive in the snow, but i get po'ed at the 5mph folk. get the f*** outta my way!! put a plow on the PSd and push 'em off the road!! img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-frown.gif" border="0">img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-mad.gif" border="0">

so creator, is that surgery to help with snoring? my wife would love me to do that. when we go on curling bonspiels nobody wants to room with me cuz they think i'm gonna die from choking and snoring. i don't know what they're whining about, i'm always the last to bed in a drunken stupor around 4-5AM.

I'm late to the party as usual, but here's what we do with our trailer during the winter. We blow out the lines, drain the heater, and put the RV anti-freeze in the traps and on top of the 'flapper' in the toilet. Problem is, we like to use our trailer during the winter sometimes, so all the work goes to pot and off we go. Then we have to do it all over again.
I've got solar panels on the roof so the batteries are always charged. I just check the water periodically to make sure it's up to 'level'.
I've heard the RV anti-freeze actually can freeze. It just doesn't expand like water does, so there's no damage. Is this true?
And now that it's cold out, I've got to change the oil in our quads because I've been lazy and waited too (oooooo) long. Damn, I hate when that happens.

I had sleep apnea. That's where you stop breathing during the night. After my sleep study it was found that I stopped breathing for 10 seconds or more, over 250 times a nightYou can go to bed and get the hours of sleep in but still not feel rested. You want to sleep during the day and you can fall asleep very quickly, within a minute.
I snored like a freight train and drove anybody crazy. My kids could hear me down the hall with the doors closed!
Last night my wife stated that I didn't snore at all so let's see how this plays out.

That makes it worse. You're laying on your back and the airway is blocked causing you to snore and stop breathing. Have it checked out

ya, i figured that. I'm told by people that it's scary to listen to me sleep cuz i stop breathing for so long. my curling teammates joked they'd hear me stop breathing, dial 9-1...and I'd start to suck wind just before they got the last "1" dialed. I thot i should start by losing my beer gut and getting back in good cardio-condition, and then getting it checked out, but it doesn't seem the beer gut is going anywhere soon and i never seem to make time for exercise. when i was in good shape, i think my breathing was better. so maybe one day i'll finally go. i just don't like going for any medical apts unless I'm bleeding profusely or semi-comatose. my friends say it's worse than snoring cuz there's no rhythm to it, long periods of no noise then sucking for air like a drowning man.

Get it checked out, wife might even open up little bit moreBR>And when your drowning, you only get about 2 breathes and that's itungs get filled with water. We really don't worry to much about water freezing hereut, my neighbors across the street taught us all a lesson about going on vacation during winter, though. Leave your heat on 65 or so. They went away for a month, turned off the heat. While they were gone, we had a very unusual cold spell and pipes did freeze and in their case, burstThey had water running out their front door. City had to turn off their water main. When they came home 2 weeks later, the mold and damage was terrible. They didn't live in their house for 3-4 months while they did a complete gut job. Good thing, insurance paid for an updated houseBR>

pretty much standard wording in EVERY ins policy in Canada that ...during the regular heating season, if you're away from home more than 96 hours, you MUST make arrangements for someone to enter your home daily to check on things. if you don't, you aren't covered for damge caused by freezing. SO.... this type of damage would never be covered in Canada.

Great. Im moving to teh snow. At least i get to ski everyday. haha

Well I'm back from Hollister. Woohoo. Had a blast over there. It was 99% dry with very little standing water (Adobe Section) and a few mud pits. Ended up riding with about 1/2 dozen PD/Sherrif/Dispatch/CSOs (East Bay area). Funny to listen to them yack about some guys goofing up (left the PA on after telling a lady to make turns) and said something along the lines of "Stupid b*tch."
The one couple who was there for the whole weekend are great to ride with. They left the kids home for the weekend. Dad was riding one of the girls 250ex. It beat on him pretty good. He's used to a dirt bike or a motor unit (traffic officer). That short wheelbase and narrowness had him fighting it. But he did pretty darn good.
Learned one thing...the critters LOVE bread. 2 loves of french bread and a load of wheet sandwich bread.
OH yeah, and I LOVE that new truck. Pulled 65-70 up Pacheco (west bound) and 65 east bound (steeper). She's not a virgin anymore. Dent in the driver's side fender well in the bed from a piece of wood. Oh well. It's a truck. Burned a little over "1/2" tank there and back in 275 miles or so. Has anyone ever have a dealer deliver a vehicle with 21 PSI on tires that should be running 36 PSI? That explains the 13MPG first tank. Supposed to be 15/19. I was looking for 16 on that tank.
On the way back a couple thought they were racing NASCAR. Some joker was running about 60-65 downhill in the left lane (70-75 is the norm for passenger type vehicles) coming around the north side of the resevoir. A Ford Ranger came up on him. Guy wouldn't move over. Ranger got tired of it and went to the right lane and joker moved over too. Back to the left lane with both. Jestures were exchanged that both of them thought each other was Number One in their book. Ranger was making it around and the import tried to side swipe him. Ranger got passed him, then the import tried to pass and the Ranger about took him all the way into the center median. I was about reading to call CHP if it got any worse. Friggin morons.
It doesn't freeze that much around here either. But it does. If it does too much the oranges freeze, then the trees die. Lost like $1B one year I think. The frost froze the oranges (then only good for OJ concentrate) then killed the trees. They are ok until about 28 deg. F. Below that the farmers bust out the smudge pots and burn like peach pits, etc. in them. Turn on wind machines, etc. That year the plumbers were making money. Pipes were busting all over the place. Even one of the big plumbing outfits had pipes go, in the middle of the day actually when a TV crew was there interviewing them.

gotta love a good road rage incident. from what you described, i don't blame the PU at all. A friend of mine moved to LA from here. way he expains it, in CA you guys shoot people who drive the way the import driver was driving.
Posted by: BlackandRedWarrior
I was actually waiting for gunfire to be honest. The thing is, that road is probably 5% downhill at some points. I don't think trucks are speed limited (Cuesta is 6% and trucks are limited to 35MPH) but this thing wraps 1/2 way around San Luis Resevoir. I was actually going to pull up next to the import so the Ranger could ride my tail past him but as I got even with the import (I think a Mitsu. Eclipse) we came up on an RV. I think that's when the Ranger got passed the moron.
Those are the type of situations my boss loves when he's in his Lightning. That supercharger kicks in and it just hauls. Though I do notice, my truck has a whine almost like a really small supercharger when you get into it. Not sure if it's air going through the throttle body or what.
Posted by: confusedbuyer
my best friend has a lightning. man, those things are like a rocket when you hit the gas. he'd still be road-raging with the eclipse. he usually changes lanes when he's beside the slow moving veh driving in the fast lane. actually, he ordered his from the same dealer i got my PSD from. we joked about who's order would arrive first. when his came in, i couldn't wait any longer and i bought mine off the lot with most of the extras already on it.
we've swapped a few times, but i've never got a chance to open his up cuz it's always in the city.
Posted by: BlackandRedWarrior
Kind of a funny story about this truck actually. The boss's son graduated from Cal Poly SLO in Civil Eng. Went to work for some company up in Sacramento. Well, he wanted a Lightning so I think dad kind of helped him out and what not. It's the bright red they have fully optioned out (toneu cover and trailer hitch). The guys out in the field literally start up a bet when the boss gets one. Couple months later the SVT dealer up in Merced calls him and says that a '99 Lightning just "showed up." (This was 9/30/99, day I got my old Sonoma).
What had happened was some guy ordered this truck back in the spring. Waited and waited. Nobody could find this truck anywhere. So they transferred his deposit over to something else and off the guy went. Then one day this truck shows up out of the blue. They found it in a rail car in Dallas.
The Boss being the way the boss is, couldn't leave well enough alone. The thing bone stock (or maybe he had the K&N at that time) had it to 140 with an open bed. Next came the Bosani full exhaust. Ceramic headers and everything. Then the Roll-N-Lock. Only time I got to drive that truck was picking it up from the shop....the exhaust had to come off as it wasn't CARB approved and it was finally time to have the smog test done and they are automatically failed for non CARB-approved stuff. Though that fixed an annoying rattle and about 3500-4000 RPM from the muffler or Cat. And the boss liked to drive in that area... I just had to check it out. Boost gauge would never move just tootling back. It's something to watch the boost gauge just flip when you punch it. The grin factor was something else.
He put like 15K on that truck in 6 mos. driving. So he bought an '00 4x4. Same body style. Std. cab Flareside...was "a dog" as he told me so on when an Eaton Supercharger. Slightly smaller unit that what's on the Lightning. He pulled a trailer back from Mendota one day. The next day it was in the tranny shop getting beefed up. He was chirping the tires ever time he would start.

Skinner, wish I could of made itid get somethings accomplished this weekend. Finally put the batteries on my traileran tell they put out a little more energy, then what, we were used toecided to go with 2 battery boxes side by side, took a little work with a dremel to get them to fit.
Now, I have to troubleshoot why, when the truck is plugged into the trailer, it doesn't charge the batteriesI know the trailer part works, when I had my Chevy, it would charge the batteries and run the trailer. But, when I got the PSD, I noticed it didn'tt does have a 30 amp fuse in the fuse box on the truck, but it still doesn't work. Anyone have any ideas on what to checkll lights on the trailer work.

MD check to make sure that you are getting 12V at the pin on the 7-pin connector. Something could be loose somewhere.
On that note, I think I've got another convertee to 2x6V. One couple who was with me had to jump start the generator almost every time they needed it. Trailer is 2 years old and they've always had problems with the battery. They have a slow draw in there somewhere. Reminds me...need to send them that link.

MD, IIRC i'm pretty sure in the underhood fuse box, you need to add one of those little square black relays. i may have an extra I could send with the manual (when i sell the 160). ask the Ford dealer if that sounds correct, i'm pretty sure i had to do that to mine for the trailer brake controller AND aux-batt charge connections to work. i think i had to add 2 relays. If Ford charges you for more than the part, they're ripping you off.

well, in case i keep the quad... but i could move quicker if you're anxious. definitely not letting the manual go with the quad.
on the relay, it's just a black plug type relay that plugs into the fuse box. you wanna dare PM me your email and i'll send you pics of the relay, and where it goes in the fuse box?? NO wiring is necessary.

Looks like mine takes 2 of them. It also takes (2) 30 amps fuses in space #16 and #30. Thanks ConfusedI do come up with one every great once in awhileBR>Actually, there are no bowling alleys in the county. All of them are in the cityut, I've made plenty of dope deals around the alleys(we go where the dope dealers go, no borders/city limits stop us) You are right in your assessment about parolees being around alleys guess that's because the alleys are usually in the no-so-great part of townsBR>

WOW dude, you must have a serious set of chompers if you've already chewed thru that much of the arm.BR>
seriously, WTF did you do to hurt your arm bowling?? it's wierd how ya can do goofy things to yourself from something seemingly innocuous. i played ice hockey for 20 years, and a couple of times i thot i strained my groin and couldn't skate very well. then i got fat and outta shape, so i went to the natural progression of curling for my new winter sport. guys would be stretching before games and I'd laugh that it was curling. THEN one night i sorta lost my footing on the ice and my legs went opposite directions like Bambi. my macho mentality said shake it off, there's nuthin wrong. i've scored goals in hockey after taking a stick or puck in the face and needing 5-6 stitches, blood pouring down my face, and not even missed a beat or shift, have a beer after the game and then get sewn up later. so, thinkin i'm all tough and okay, i go to push outta the hack and i'm seeing stars it hurts so bad. i collapse and can't finish the game ( i NEVER not finish a game). i almost wanna cry like a girl (okay, well not quite that bad), but no way i could play for 2 weeks. my leg turned all purple and red. guess i blew some blood vessel apart when i strained the groin muscle...from sissy-non-contact curling!! and WAY worse from any strained groin injury i ever had playing hockey.
so the bad news is, yer gittin old and you're more susceptable to injury now. go to a lighter ball

Dam i thought i was the only one who got hurt doin nothing and never gets hurt being a psycho crazy ass. hmm. yeah have been really thinkin about gettin maybe a 15 or 14 lb ball. I just dont spank the monkey as much as i used to and my wrist just cant take the punishment. the forces are pretty intense accelerating the ball to 24+mph i have been tryin to throw in the 16-18mph range but i get pissed off and throw 30+ at the 10 pin. Hard on the wrist. Elbow i dunno about that thing. Freak incident doin it just wrong somehow. if i move it hurts still.

no prob MD, ANYTIME ya need anything from the manual, let me know and i'll fax, or scan and email, whatever part ya need.
okay Toyo, sounds like severe tennis elbow, with maybe a little ulnar nerve impingemnet. the best cure is go and get rearended so you can never get better and retire off someone's insurance co. Oh, i forgot, it's the US, carrying $100,000 in liability ins is considered high. in Canada, law requires min. $200,000 and most people carry 1mil, many carry 5mil. truckers gotta have 10mil. that's why they have a great big bullseye when they run up and down the I5.
okay, 'nuff BS. go and get some bc bud for the pain (not the illegal stuff, the medical stuff).according to all the chronic potheads around here with a medical exemption, it totally kills pain.
now get out and vote you crazy Americans. the hilarious thing i saw yesterday was that this election is SO close, both sides are arming up their legal teams to fight on technicalities if they lose. nuthin like a good 'ol recount. even if you hate Gore, ya gotta give him credit last election for admitting he lost and not putting the country thru the expense of a legal battle/recount/re-election...whatever.

okay, i know i'm gonna infuriate all my good FBK pals with this post, but it's just gotta be pointed out. i watch the sports hi-lights every night.seeing how you got the big erect... i mean election tomorrow, they talked about how Beaver, i mean Bush owned the texas rangers and was a college freshman benchwarmer in baseball. he still musta been a pretty good ball player. I respect that. BUT, Kerry lists his sports participation as hockey and lacrosse, Canada's 2 national sports. now if that doesn't sway ya....!! good contact sports. Man, your a mind reader 'oh confused one LOL

Insurance min. in CA is a joke. AAA here in CA won't even write a min. policy. California is 15/30/10. 15,000 per person, 30 per incident and 10 property damage. IIRC, AAA starts off with 30/60/50 or something like that. I know here at the office we have about $1M policy or so, which for a Corp. is pretty much required to cover the company. Though because we have a Motor Carrier Permit we have to carry $100K min. I think. The guys carrying hazmat, IIRC, have to carry $1M and anything radioactive is like $2M.
My agent (AAA) told me they won't write a min. policy because any decent sized accident will go over the min. very easily. Usually I hear you base your covered on your home value. If you have a $300K home, then you carry a $300K policy as a min. Bank requires me to carry a tiny friggin deductable ($250) so that makes the rates even worse.
Posted by: Trasher
I was just thinking about insurance coverage. Does it cover my trailer while towing, sitting in a parking lot, along side of my house, etc?
Do you guys have it on yer toys also?
Posted by: confusedbuyer
i had to buy 2 policies on my trailer, one for liability, and then one for all-perils if it gets damged, fire, etc..., in which case I'm covered everywhere.
toy ins is just too much cuz claims are too high. in 5-10 years, the premiums would equal a new quad. so just make sure you have a rotty or pitbull tied to it.

Trasher: You might want to check with your insurance agent to find out about coverage. I've *heard* that most ins. companies will only cover a trailer up to 14'. Anything over that is your deal. All of our vehicles here at the shop have their own ins. card and are apart of the full policy.
As far as the toys, I don't have coverage but really am thinking about it. Check with State Farm, Progressive and some of the motorcycle specific ins. companies out there. Make sure you tell them you want an OFF ROAD policy. Usually they want to write a road going policy. I got quotes ranging from 600-1200 a year. I pay 1,000/yr for my car so I never got it. My friend said he paid about 70 for a quadzilla and not sure on the 300ex. I think total it was less than 250 a year. Of course that depends on how much coverage you want. AAA will insure them but they have to be used around the house and you have a home owners/renters policy. Kind of hard to justify that when I live in the city. I don't even think the quad would fit throught the gate, let alone the fact I have a gardner.

Skinner, why have a gardner, when the quad will do a he!! of a lawn jobJust not the manicured typeimg src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-wink.gif" border="0">
Anyways, I don't carry insurance on our quads. The price I would pay (over a yr or two)would be what the quads are worthNow, the plus side to the ins. is if, for some reason, one of the quads start a vegetation fire(fancy word for grass fire), then, the ins. will cover the cost to fight it. But, then, I don't fore see that happening, because I have spark arrestors on our bikesherefore, the chances are remote, that it (fire) would occur.
Now, on the trailer, as long as it's attached to the truck, it's covered. On the side of my house, it's covered by my homeowners insurance. Outside of that, I'll cover the cost of it. It's oldut still in great conditionbut, not worth a lot in dollar signs

Yeah. Grass + lots of water from washing the quad + sand paddle + riding it off the grass did a job on the lawn. Luckily I was able to get the divits filled back with their chunks.
We rent, so the gardner is included. I like it. I don't have to screw with it. Gives me time to play and what not. And we already have a great price on the house. We chose this house over another house almost 20 years older w/o lawn care. We pay $1200, the other one was $1100. I've got the mower and all the yard gear....just sitting in the garage.

Clovis is a bit more expensive than Fresno. My friend bought a house in Fresno two or three years ago. It's ohh let me count the streets... right at about 4 miles due south of me. Same school district (very highly regarded throughout the nation), different city though. He paid about 130K. Same house in Clovis he wouldn't have been able to touch for less than double that. Plus he's got a gigantic yard (probably couldn't even get a yard that size in Clovis without popping 300K). And the price, by my guess, has probably doubled in the last 2 years or so. Coworker bought a house to rent to his son as an investment. About the same price, maybe a little lower. Between signing the papers and handover to him, he could have turned a 15K profit. This was down in Reedley, CA. Prices are insane here. People are fleeing the bay area (where prices are insane) and moving here.
Also as a contrast, my uncle and aunt just moved into a rental house about 4 miles from me (other way from my friend). 2BR 2BA, gated comm. (blech, no way in hell would you find me living in one) with gardner for $1100. On top of that we have city utils (garbage, water, recycling, street sweeping (they may not pay that one though) and sewer) runs another 125-150 every two mos. Power bills are maybe 80 at the lowest and on up to 400 in the summer. Though we had a 500 bill last summer ('03). They set the damn elec. baseline over on the coast. You just can't cool a house here with A/C for less than $200.
My cousins house doubled in value from when they bought it. It's in a neighborhood I used to live in. Parents paid 80K+ for a house in '83 there. Cousin bought her house for about 100K like 2 years ago, maybe 3. Houses in the neighborhood are going for 260K now. Subdivision was built in mid 70s.

my parents are from Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan. dad's brother moved to Everett, WA in the early 60's. We've been on the wet-coast since '67. property here is crazy (300k MIN for a house in mediocre area, 1MIL+ in nicer hoods). BUT, Moose Jaw is ridiculously cheap. MANY $20,000 homes. 100K is rare.
so, dad's bro (Uncle Bob) is up visiting from Everett. he sees my PSD for the first time and comments, "nice truck", and something about..." I bet it was expensive". I told him I had a tough choice to make... buy the truck, or a block of real-estate in Moose Jaw.... the truck won! they had a good chuckle over that.

I couple of months ago I bought a investment home in AZ for $150K. Two years old, 3B,2B, 1600sq ft. I could sell my home in San Diego and buy over 5 more like that! Property values have gone out of control here.
Posted by: rescuediver
Skinner is correct about the bay area people moving to the valley and pushing home prices to high. We bought our house in 1988 and it's now worth 3 times as much. Would I pay that kind of price for it today? Heck no! We almost bought a 1/2 mil home with no back yard etc. Would have to start from scratchand be married to our mortgageecided to stay where we arelmost have it where we want it as far as rebuild, landscape, etc. Only thing wrong is it's a 3 bdrm. But, heck my oldest will be out of the house in 4 yearsimg src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-wink.gif" border="0"> Instead, we'll invest in property in the foothills

Looks like it's coming down to Ohio. I wonder if they have hanging chads? BR>
Home prices where I live average 250K, and 15 miles north (where I work), average 500K. However, I've been interviewing for a few positions that would move me 150 miles south, where things are less expensive.
Oh, I bought an 04 jeep grand cherokee.

Hoss- I would love to move to someplace cheaper to live but the "ol lady of 25 years" ain't movin any time soon. When we purchased the property in AZ my kids figured out pretty quickly that we could buy a custom made home with ridin in your own backyard (not a 2 hour plus ride here) and still have over $400K in the bank. Maybe I can get them to sway the wife and move? I can become mister mom and she can work and I can drive the kiddies to school every day in the Mighty PSD

When you look at Ca. and get away from the major metropolitan areas, it's republican. Unfortunately, S.F. and L.A. basin have too many people that want the Gov't to hand everything to them. Heck, we are in a budget crunch but, now, the "votoers" are telling the state to spen 3 BILLION dollars in Stem cell researchWhat a joke.

She wasn't hurt, but, we thought about it after that. It could make a differenceThen my oldest daughter has a severed nerve in her right shoulder and we want to protect it. So, we decided before our next Pismo trip, we would get them the chest protector. And, it's hard to believe Thanksgiving is 3 weeks away Aaarrrrr AArrrrrrrr Ar

I'm sure it's up there around 80%Did you happen to watch Dan Rather last night/this early morning. He couldn't get the grasp that Pres. Bush wone even told Ed Bradley that he, (Bradley) wasn't a math major, when Bradley told him, it was inconceivable that Kerry could win Ohio. Rather just wouldn't except it. Tax on hotel/motel rooms. FAILED. Dipstick people. Measure B for library funds which I *think* passed and Measure Z for the zoo which got like 70%+ votes.
Looks like another 4 years of kissing your privacy goodbye and invading other countries all the while looking for WMDs and al Queda. Just waiting for Shrub to send the boys into Fallueja (spelling?). Went to a motorcycle/ATV auction today. It's held here every month. A lot of killer deals and bargains can be had. I tried to get a WR250 MC for junior but it was so clean the bidding got way past what I wanted to spend.
I'll be there next month and on the hunt for another one.
Posted by: confusedbuyer
the problem with auctions is there's always someone else willing to pay more, and more than what it's worth considering you're buying "as-is, where-is", no chance to fully check it out. i've gone to several auctions, waited hours for the items i'm interested in, and then people go crazy with their bids. not worth it to me. and if it's a police auction, the cops grab all the good stuff for free before it even sees the auction floor.
Posted by: Trasher
This one is pretty nice. You go in on Thursday and check 'em out as much as you want. You get to start them but not ride 'em around.
I have a couple of friends that buy there very month and them re-sale them around here or on E-Bay.
Can't wait for next months

Not true in California anymore. Courts said we had to stop doing that. We were taking to many mercedes, hummers, caddies, etc, etc, etc. from the drug dealers. So now, everything we take under asset seizure goes to auction. Except of course money and guns. Which we can't keep the guns anymore either. Now they are destroyed per court order.

They work good so farhaven't had the trailer out to give them a real work out. Leaving for Pismo on the 20th for 8 days of campingWith a couple of days at home in between
I have the relays and fuses already on the truck, but no power to the plugNeed to trouble shoot it a little more. I was told that the ignition key needed to be in the "on" position. So, of course I checked that and they still don't workI knew it couldn't be that easy.

yeah, that was my backhanded slap at police wages! Here, the RCMP is a good career. 1st year= $37K, 2nd year, 50k+, 5 years your in the 60's. If you move up to Corporal or Sgt, much better pay. 20 or 25 years to full pension. so lotsa guys retire young, get full pension, then get some cushy security job that pays 60k/year.
your problem would be that you're too male and too white. sorry.
if all your components are in place, that sounds odd. i wonder if your batt charge power is going to a different prong, like the reverse one in the center? or a blown fuse? OR, maybe the whole thing needs to be hooked up with a ground to properly check it.

And while camping, it keeps the kids occupied at night watching movies, so, the misses and I can enjoy the stars by ourselveshr>
What a tight a$$You should have bought a 42" Plasma monitor and hang it on the side of the trailer to watch movies by the camp fire.BR>
Camping just ain't what it used to be................

ain't it the truth! as kids we were in tents, no air mattress. when i was young, we borrowed a PU and camper to travel to Saskatchewan (1000 miles). it was reg cab Ford, 5 of us. Mom and Dad in the cab, my 2 bros and I with our faces glued to the front window of the camper. none of us owned dirtbikes or quads. 5 in a camper...yikes. otherwise, we packed the station wagon with tents and camping gear
NOW, our spoiled kids watch TV/videos, ride their quads or dirtbikes all day, stay in a luxury trailer, ride in a crewcab, etc...., just so I can try to keep them interested in something other than video games, crime and crack. I think we should sell it all and yearn for a simpler time. I WISH! I could spend less time wrenching and maintaining. and kids could use a lesson in hard work and earning your keep.

Isnt trailer power the Big prong in the middle of the 7 wire plug? Must be. and it dont work on your PSD? then your fuse is out ? or is it hooked up in your trailer plug?

290 Billion people in one trailer park? Does it have a WalMart? I'm sure they could sell a ton of wife beaters there.

nope, that prong is usually for the back-up lights. some use it as an auxillary and might use it for trailer batt. charge, but there is a different prong asigned to the trailer batt. charger.

okay, what do any of ya know about GMC AWD Van starters for the 4.3L engine? replaced mine 17 months ago &12,500 miles. NOW, the starter motor works, but the starter drive gear doesn't engage. I bench tested it and the motor spins but the drive-gear doesn't slide forward to mesh with the flywheel.
does this mean my solenoid is working, as long as i get power to the motor?? In which case, it's the bendix gear? i need to see an exploded diagram of the starter taken apart, and how it works. I'm close. for $15-40 for parts to fix it, sure is a lot cheaper than $200 from jobber for a rebuilt one.

your problem would be that you're too male and too white. sorry.
if all your components are in place, that sounds odd. i wonder if your batt charge power is going to a different prong, like the reverse one in the center? or a blown fuse? OR, maybe the whole thing needs to be hooked up with a ground to properly check it.
We have a good retirement too, it's called 3% at 50. So, if I can make it to my 50th birthday, I'll make 87% of my wages (at that time) for my monthly retirement checkUnfortunately, the older we get, the harder it is to recover from injuryBR>
And you are correct about sex and raceBR>
The fuses are good, think I'll have to check if the relays are any good. Plug has been rewired, so, that should not be a problem.

Welcome to the forumI have the diagram for the wiring harness, so, that's not a problem, just gotta figure out where to go next. Guess, it's a process of elimination.

The job of the solenoid is to pull that bendix gear out towards the flywheel. If that is not happening, I would look at the solenoid first plus they are cheap. Starters aren't that much for the 4.3. I have had 3 Astro vans in my life but only one starter replacement in the bunch

WTF?? Hummer and mom in the same sentence have a different meaning in this house (well, a different DESIRED meaning). yer right, this thing is a piece of junk. i keep meticulous service records, and i can't believe what a POS this thing has been. Ya ya ya, the engine and tranny will last forever........ but $800 fuel pump (PART ONLY)??img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-blush.gif" border="0">
Creator, i can't believe you like these things. ....Then again , i bought mine cuz my good pal has had 2 of them, abuses the crap outta them towing way over what he should with no electric brakes on rough, steep logging roads... and they've been great vans for him. Mine has pretty well been soccer-mom van, and it's just one thing after another.

you are correct. so when you bench test, put power to the IGNITION terminal to see if it's pushing out the bendix gear.i was only powering up the hot terminal which was only spinning the starter. you must power the ignition terminal to see if the bendix gear is being pushed out.
so anyways, WASTED an entire day on this stupid thing. here's my #1 beef... they sell solenoids for cheap. the solenoid is held on by 3 external torx bolts. it's an odd-ball small size torx, plus, it's external (you need a female torx socket), PLUS there is limited clearance between armature cover and solenoid, so, NOBODY SELLS THE TOOL YOU NEED to take it apart!! DUH! Eventually, I tracked down a Snap-On Tools truck. He had the E-5 External-Torx, DEEP socket (regular socket won't reach). Aaaarrrgghgh! AND, $20 for one socket (what else would you expect from Snap-On).
Okay, so now we can finally remove the Solenoid. (BTW, Idiot parts guy said if i was getting starter motor to spin, then problem HAD to be the bendix drive, NOT the solenoid. i tried to argue, but he disagreed. he's WRONG, Creator is correct ) I see the cheap plastic fork is broken, that the solenoid activates to engage the bendix drive. so, all i need is the fork. NOBODY SELLS THE FORK!! None of the parts guys, and GM doesn't sell a single part for these starters.
Off to 3 starter/motor rebuild shops to see if they have the fork. the one Chinese guy brings it up on computer screen; the exact part i need. i think he's helping me and his phone rings and he spends the next 30 minutes jabbering away in Chinese to someone, obviously a personal call, while i stand in his face staring at him. he gets off phone, no apology, looks around, says he doesn't have the part. I ask how much, and when can he get it in. He only wants to sell me an exchange for $125, when he now knows i only need a $5 part to make mine perfect. what an ignorant jerk. I will never deal with them again, ever, and will tell everyone i know to avoid them . I wish i knew how to crap through his mail slot.
so my dad (Ford Parts manager) managed to scrounge me a fork, i put it back together, and everything is fine. putting it back in veh isn't bad, but getting the wires properly connected and separated is a huge pain in the A$$!! touch wood (not that wood Toyo!!) it keeps working.
so for a day of lost wages and a $20 tool, it works great. glad i saved the $200 from Parts store (I think?), only cost me $500 in wages. STOOPID!

OK, I've gotta vent. I'm playing weight Nazi over on RV.net. Heh, there's not enough of it needed here so I gotta go where I'm usefull. I'm truly, truly scared. I hope this person is really leaving CA and going somewhere else. They've never towed. Have an E-350 PSD (on topic...sorta). Wanting to tow a trailer too big for the van. So people start telling this lady to change from 3.55s to 4.10s to up her towing.
Or there's the guy telling her she can tow whatever till she hits GCWR (without obviously looking to see what other ratings will be exceeded before then), "No, you can tow more, up to the 20K limit, if you have the right hitch. The towing guide lists the max weight for 4.10 gears as 10k because that's what the stock hitch is rated for. Several makers incl. Hidden Hitch and Reese make 14,000 pound hitches. Upgrade to one of those, and you tailer max will then be 20k-7560=12440."
This lady doesn't even know what a WD hitch is, let alone the receiver, "I know we'll need to upgrade the hitch, but what, specifically IS the hitch? We have something on the back; it is a UHaul thing with no ball. It is rated 500GTW and 5000GTrailerW and 750GTW and 7500lbGTrailer with Weight Distribution. I would call this a receiver? We'll need to remove that whole big thing and install a new one? Is that where the weight distribution hitch goes? How does it fit into/onto the tongue of the TT? Where is the ball? Should it be on the back of the van (i.e. it is missing from our hitch/receiver - depending on what the hell we have back there) or is it part of the tongue of the TT?"
She's all up on wanting to be safe (still has her 10 y/o kid in a car seat of some kind) but is wanting to tow too much. I can see Darwin...he's gonna go for her next... Unfortunately, Darwin Strikes in these circumstances usually involve someone else getting killed, maimed, etc. This reminds me of a friends status on Yahoo! Messenger a lot "Stupid should hurt."
