Since i'm a 73-87 Chevy truck freak and have owned MANY. I can tell you that in an 86 the the rear stock ratio is prolly a 2.73, the converter is very tight and the exhaust does eveything but suck exhaust from the engine. If your truck is all stock in the ways I mentioned then you should expect no better than mid 16's at sea level. Now a 3.42 or 3.73 rear and a looser converter and some real exhaust can really wake her up. Is the The 330HP the one with vortec heads? DAVE
BTW- I know of an excellent site for all Year Chevy trucks but is especially strong in the 67-87 styles. I can always be found in the 73-87 area. DAVE

Nice Silverado behind YOU! . there is most likely still an option sheet stuck inside the glove box or inner fender under the hood. If you do not see an optional ratio listed like 3.08 or 3.42 then it's a 2.73 . a G80 code indicates POSI. Of the mods you already made the headers and duals added twice whay your other mods did. If your carb was already bad, (typical of an 86 Q-jet carb) then the Edddy carb helped a bunch also. The mild cam is prolly still quite a bit more than the stocker as the 305 cams were real wimpy. Like I said , gears make a big difference in a 4500# truck. DAVE

" "I have several including an 85 Custom Deluxe Stepside for sale and my inventory changes a lot . I'm tell you I'm diseased with these trucks.
the 700R4 and the 3.73 are a good match.

Whats a good estimate I could get in the 1/4 mile with this crate engine in a 86 Silverado with a new tranny and shift kit? I was thinkin maybe high 15s or low 16s?

here is a pic of my 86 now, http://www.angelfire.com/nc3/gmanfilespace
It came with the 5.0 305CI V8 that I rebuilt and added : Edelbrock Performer Intake Manifold, Edelbrock Performer 4bbl Carb, mild cam, Dynomax headers. Its alot quicker than it was but I am saving money for a crate engine.

Crossy, Imma check my ratio tomm (dark outside right now lol) but im guessing its a sorry @$$ 2.73. I have also lost my GM Catelog but yes I think it is the one with the vortec heads, anyway my friend said he could get me one for $1700 and plus a brand new tranny for $1000 which aint bad at all. But yea I got my truck from a old man that used to drive it 45mph where ever he went and I dont think it ever saw overdrive so it wore the engine out pretty badly(Burnt more oil than gas). But the 700R4 has never been serviced and it runs fine. Knock on wood!!! What I would really like is a 3.73 to go with the Engine and tranny then I know she will maybe be able to beat some 5.0 Mustangs out there (stock maybe). What year model truck do you have now, mods, etc?
