What are you getting these tires for? For mud riding? Trail Riding? Getting them because of there price? If you get the XT kit (without the liftkit), it will be shorter than the 26 inchers with a liftkit. The lift kit adds 1 1/2- 2 inches to the frame and seat height. The 27 inchers only add a 1/2 an inch. ------------------

Are you for real? 27 inchers straining an Arctic Cat 500? Your joking, right? The only thing that ever strained my 500 was pulling a 2500 pound trailer with my parking brake on (oooops). Where you get the Aluminum wheels from? How much you pay? What is your e-mail? I have the Part number for the filter. I can E-mail mail you the part number. ------------------

Do you have spacer for the front? If you don't, the front tires will rub on the shocks when turning hard. Don't forget the 500 has good bit more power than the 454. I know that in some places that you would normaly use 2nd on the 454 you can use 3rd or even 4th on the 500. I am thinking of getting 27-10-12 Vampires or 26-12-12 Swampers if I can find some 1/2 inch or 1 inch spacers. You know wh sells spacers that small in the Arctic Cat/Banshee rear bolt circle? ------------------ Arctic Cat 500, Not your average Kitty, The New King Of the Jungle

As far as I know, Highlifter only cares 3-inch spacers. 3-inches is way to wide for the trails I ride and I want to stay al least a little clean when mud riding. The reason there aren't many aftermarket parts for Arctic Cats is because not many people are buying them. Arctic Cat is 6th in the ATV sales. Did Arctic Cat change the Foot brake on the 2000 model? Where is the fuel Petcock? How much is the Msrp on the 2000 model? The rings aren't steel. They're aluminum. You can buy them and weld them to the wheel your self or you buy the wheels with the rings already welded on. The make them as strong, if not stronger than, steel wheels. Ask Rocky Mountain, Highlifter, James Lucky, etc. They should have them.

How about the Price? Did it go up? Look for a story on the 500 auto in about a month? They are riding it in Canada this weekend. Andy, did you get the Fram Filter part number? If not I have it.

Put a hose on the bottle. Why did you change your differential oil? How many miles do you have on it? ------------------ Arctic Cat 500, Not your average Kitty, The New King Of the Jungle

I am trying to decide on whether or not to put a 27" XT bigfoot kit on my AC 500 or 26" Sur traks big foot kit with lift kit. I don't want to put the lift kit on with the Blackwaters because I am afraid it will five me too much height and make the machine top heavy. Any opinions on this will by appreciated.

I decided to get the 26" tires with the lift kit because I put the 27" XTs on my '98 cat and I could tell it really strained it. I decided to go with 26-12x12 bearclaws on aluminum.

Hey, this is Mark from Blountville, TN. I am looking for Rob Ervin. I was going to email you and tell you where I ride, but that was before ATV connection destroyed the web site and erased you from the face of the earth. Are you still out there???

Before ATV connection did their housecleaning, someone posted a message about cross referencing a fram oil filter for the LT500 Suzuki. I would like to know what the number on that filter is if anyone out there has it because those cat filters are expensive.

The 27" tires on steel wheels put strain on my 454 AC. I wasn't terrible strain, but I could still tell that it was there. I just don't want to take that chance with my 500, so that's why i'm getting aluminum wheels. I'm looking into getting them from chaparral in California. I bought my blackwaters on steel from rockymountainatv.com, but chaparral seems to be a little cheaper, plus, they charge a flat rate shipping. By the way, my email is mdunaway@prodigy.net. I would appreciate that part number for the filter. Thanks

You might be able to find the spacers at highlifter.com, but it's been my experience that most dealers don't stock parts for the AC or are out of stock on parts. This should not be a problem because the machines have been around for almost five years. I guess that dealers don't thiink that anyone is buying them. The 2000 AC 500s come in red or green according to the brochure on the 2000 models, and the dealer confirmed this. I have already paid for the 500. I'm just waiting on him to obtain one. He said he could have it in 7 days. By the way, where do you get the steel rings for the douglas rims?

Posted by: Cat500

I got my 2000 AC for 5,995 before tax

This is the number I was given for the Fram filter. I haven't tried it personally, yet, but I will. Fram #314-0618

The 2000 500 has a fuel switch located like the suzuki 500 and has a hydraulic rear foot brake.

No, I don't have a part number or a manufacturer for the filter yet. I figure the Automatic to be about $200 more than the standard probably.

Rob, I waited till about 50 miles before I took it all out. According to the speedometer, I hit 53 on pavement. It has 600 on it now, and indicates about 57-58 on pavement now. It was wierd, I just took it out one day going about 5 miles to a friends house, and it just ran faster. That was around 450 miles. As for it seeming like it is only capable of 40-45, it takes it a while to get there, and doesn't really accelerate quick. Its just a constant steady gain in speed. 30-50 seems about the same ammount of time as 50-57 it seems. The octane definitely has a say in it too. I run 91 in mine, but about 2 weeks ago I ran 87 and it dropped about 3 mph. I'm going to try 93 sometime, but I'll have to drive to the next town to get it. Trust me, it will loosen up on you a lot after 300 or so. ------------------

I noticed that spacers were mentioned. We had some guys that wanted 27 inch tires on their 500 Cats with lift kits installed. They also were running aftermarket wheels. This presented a problem with the tires rubbing the lift kit brackets. Whats so bad is that the 27 inch tires will fit without a lift kit and not rub, but these guys wanted their Cats to look really big. We had our local machine shop make some spacers for the front of these select few Cats. The spacers were 1 and a half inches wide. The big disadvantage to this was the weight of the spacers, they were made from steel. Now here is an idea, I don't know if it will work but it should. The Cats have a 4 on 115mm bolt pattern. That is the same as a Banshee. The wheel spacers that Dura Blue make for a Banshee are 2 and a half inches wide. These are made from aluminum and could be cut with a band saw for whatever width you need and all you would have to get is the bolts to hold the wheel on. This is just a thought.

Man, you don't log in for a couple of days and they change everything, don't they! I bought my AC 500 (99 model) at the same dealer as Mark (CAT500) and paid $5899. ($100 cheaper b/c it was a 99 model, and they only had one left when I got mine!) I asked them about the 500 auto and they said it would not be on the showroom floor until sometime in October, and that they would be about $400 more, or $6399! I really like mine so far, really haven't been able to break it in yet. I've been babying it, havent' been over 30 mph yet, but it seems awfully tight, like it won't do more than 40-45mph or so. Does it loosen up quite a bit after break in? ------------------
