i got the old dyna in my 650 and i ride wheelies and am on the side alot in mudholes and don't have a problem. chumley is right get a dyna. another thing you can check is take off the clutch cover and make sure that lil switch inside the clutch cover is switched correctly. i think it is to t he off? anyways if it is switched the wrong way the reset won't help. the dyna does override that switch though.

You are likely in limp mode. It should be obvious that something is SEVERELY wrong with the power. You shouldn't have to pay anything for the reset key or the RF filter.
Did you go through the reset procedure or did you just toss on the connector fire it up?
* Unplug both & switch (gray to black & gray to black)
* Turn ignition on (Do not start)
* Let light blink for about 20 sec. or until it blinks out
* Return plugs to correct moded
If that doesn't work, a second way has worked for others.
* Unplug larger 4 way wiring.
* Plug in reset--- leave smaller 2 plug next to reset plug plugged together.
* Turn on key---flash fast for 20 seconds---then while light flashing---unplug smaller 2 wire plug, turn off key---then unplug reset plug.
* Plug both 4 wire and 2 wire back in.
Also, instead of the reset key, go get the RF Filter. It's a permanent solution, not a fix.
Hope that helps.

The RF is basically an inline plug that you put in and leave in. It cures the problem instead of treating the symptoms like the reset plug.
Try swapping CDI's with the 700p.

I'm not sure of the part#, any dealer worth his weight in sawdust should know right away what you are talking about. The 700CDI will work in the 650, the 700 is just a larger version of the same engine.
I would go with a Dyna CDI if you have to replace. It eliminates the limp mode and reverse override, as well as changes the timing quite a bit. You will have a very noticeable difference in power at low speed.
The one problem the dyna has is that it cuts out sometimes because it is overly sensitive to the rollover switch. This is easily fixed by disabling the roll switch, but I think the newer Dyna's may be reprogrammed to fix it.

It's not riding at an angle that will set off the rollover problem with the dyna, its actually riding in very bumpy terrain. I bypassed it and therefore have no more problem. =)

Dunno when you bought yours, maybe you got an updated one with the fix.

If you can get in contact with 'Chumley' he is pretty much up on the 650 and could possibly help you. You could send him a personal message. He knows all about the deflection settings and the clutch springs and he probably is your best bet.

My belt light came on and stays on ! I bought the elect. connector to reset it and it still stays on .My book tells me that if THAT does not work, then you have to replace the whole clutch cover that has the belt light switch in it. I DID ! And guess what,?" It's still on ". I also replaced the belt ! However, the old one looked real good. I am a mechanic by trade but just getting into atv's.One other thing, it just does not have the power that it should. Not real easy to get onto the trailer, but my sons 700 pairie 4x4 does have so much more power. Am I in the lip in mode ? Any help will help !!!!!!!!
