Although you may be able to roll the new belt on and off the drive pulleys like you can on a snow machine, the service manual gives directions to remove the movable drive face by using and impact driver which you may not have in the field.
I also know from talking to different AC folks that 10,000 miles is not uncommon on the drive belts as long as they are not being stressed out by getting water on it constantly or having to turn larger tires in thick stuff.
I have almost 7500 miles on my auto TRV, most of that towing some very large and heavy loads and it hasn't missed a beat. I am more worried about flat tires than I am a slipping belt when I am in the back country. Especially worried about being part of the food chain.
I think if you went and looked at the price of the belts you may change your mind. Go talk to your AC dealer and tell them what you are thinking and they should change your mind. I think the belt is around $200 and then you may need a new gasket, old one can be reused but then yo have reliability issues with water getting in, it is about $25.
I can PM you the detailed instructions from the service manual if you like.

I been thinking that I might get a new belt and carry it as a spare incase I am off in back 40 and have one break since I have 2,000 miles on this one.
Then I thought heck I don't even know how to change the darn thing, and what tools would I need.
Anyone want to give me some detailed instructions, I would appreciate it.
Maybe I could put the new belt on in my garage and carry the used one as a spare since it is still good, at least it would give me the opportunity to know how to do it (while not out in the boonies, knee deep in crap), and the used one is still good so it would get me home.

Never changed a snomobile belt either. If it is as simple as you make it sound then I just may have a go at it.
Are there any gaskets to to cover? If not then I may pick up some 'plummers grease' and put it on the edges when I put it back together. Probably would make sure it stays waterproof.

Thanks Swampy... I checked with the dealer and they want $174.00 for the belt.
I found one online for $53.00 (Ultimax)... check this link and let me know what you think. If it is any good or not.
