Im sure there is a gasket inbetween the two housing pieces on the diff. That would be my guess as to the leak. The clanking may be a cv joint, or loose break parts.

Hello all,

I have an 01' 400 4x4 manual AC and the rear diff. is leaking fluid. It seems to be coming from the bolt on the bottom closer to the shaft but when I pulled that off nothing came out so I am not sure where elase it could be from. Can anyone help me ?

Also I am getting a clanking sound when I turn. The bearings and ball joints all have been changed along with new tie rods... What could this be ?

Thank you in advanced for all you help and comments..

Thanks for the reply .. I was looking at it today as it was a nice day out and found the leak.. It is right at the point where the drive shaft meets the rear diff. There is a seal there. I have it on order and should be done this weekend...

As for the clanking sound... All my brake parts are tight so I guess the only other thing is the cv joint .. I will have to wait for it to warm up some more to look at that ..

Thanks again for your help
