You may also want to check and make sure you do not have an intake leak. If the carb was removed, when it was reinstalled it may have not been tightend and sucked mud around the intake. I do not think mud could come through the air filter.

If you don't have and inline fuel filter, I would suspect junk fom the tank got into the carb.

Remove carb from the quad and tear it down and clean out the trash. The pipe getting that hot will melt the piston because of the lean condition.

You might want to consider some snorkels if you managed to pull mud through the air filter.

Same thing happened to me with the local dealer in Bakersfield, Ca. Never, ever trust a dealer or their mechanics to actually take the time to fix the problem, always check the work they do and request any parts they supposedly changed. All they want to do is get your money and get it to start and out the door. Before I wised up the dealership " rebuilt" my carb which did not fix the problem but it was running when I picked it up. I finally had my quad fixed when I started doing my own research and buying my own parts and fixing it myself. When I took the carb apart myself it was so obvious which parts were worn. ( I think all they did was change a plug and call it good) so much for our service economy.

First off I would like to say what a great forum you guys have here. BR>
Ok, now on to my problem. I went riding with some friends yesterday and towards the end of the day my bike had a huge loss of power and pops/backfires on decel. Now the thing will only run when giving it throttle and dies when I let off. I just payed the AC dealer $600 for a full service and carb rebuild two weeks prior and after two times out it is having weird problems again. The only thing I have changed since I picked it up from the shop is the battery. Any idea what it could be?

Thanks,
Morgan

Anybody have any ideas?

ok, just road the atv around for a few minutes and the header turned bright orange. Power is still way down too. If I did get junk in the carb, how do I get it out?

I really need help guys, I can't afford another $600 bill from my local ac dealer.

Jesus! I just had the carb rebuilt two weeks ago! Why would there be something in it already? Should I add an inline fuel filter to keep this from happening in the future?

I guess I am just going to take it back to the dealership? I really don't want to mess with the carburetor again.

Anyway, I took it back to the dealership and got it fixed. Somehow mud managed to get throught my airfilter and clog one of the jets on the carb. The guy was really cool about it and didn't even charge me for the fix. Just thought I would share.............................

hmmm, maybe that is the reason they fixed it for free. The mechanic prob. left one of the clamps lose and didn't realize it untill I brought it back in. I was thinking how in the hell does mud go through the airfilter...................
