wow i never even heard of that, but if he does shield the tank then that should stop the vapor locking. also have you tried cleaning the carb? could be some crap inside there.

you said after it warms up.? is if jetted right? when cold the enricher circut in the carb will add more fuel, kinda like achoke. so after it's warm. maybe it isn't gettng enough fuel. so it might be jetted wrong... just my thoughts....

isn't the gas tank vented? check and make sure the vent is clean no mud dirt blocking it

I'm assuming it's built on the same design as the 06, in which case the fuel tank is under the passenger seat and shouldn't be collecting heat from the engine. At least not enough to cause vapor lock. I'll have to swing by the shop and check out one of the 650's. (if they have one)

the 04 is a different beast. It has twin carbs between the cylinders and have never been prome to vapor lock. I agree that the air filter is the first thing I'd check. The secound would be to flush the carbs and make sure there's no sediment in the jets. 3rd. Check all venting; i.e. gas cap, vents on carbs.
Some types of bugs like to fill hoses and small opening with what looks like mud.
This type of problem is usually something real simple that's just being over looked. Fresh eyes can be a big help just doing a quick visual, they may spot something you missed.
I've seen kids that don't know what their looking at find problems a mechanic has missed just cause they like to ask alot of questions.img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-wink.gif" border="0">

i have a 07 TRV 650. I have about 400 miles on it and have started expericenign a problem. This thing starts spitting and sputtering when it warms up, the dealer says the gas tank is getting to hot and causing it to vapor lock and starve the carborator of fuel. The say Arctic Cat is aware of the problem but dosent have a fix yet. In the mean time he is going to insulate the tank and try to shield it from the heat coming off the motor. Has anyone else had this issue? Does anyone know of a fix?

i dont think this makes any sense, but, the 07 TRV has sheilds in the front and on the sides, the only way heat can escape is out the back over the gas tank. AC is shipping some insulation to my dealer to wrap the gas tank this week.
We will see.

Dealer didnt gap the new plug. i spaced it out with my pocket knife and it runs like a champ again.
Air filter is a new K&N.

I just bought an 04 650 with 93 hrs on it. Nice machine but riding today it did the same thing. Weather was in the low 30's and would run fine for a while then it would act like it was out of fuel. Let it set a few minutes and it was good to go again. Any suggestions?
