would you do it again? I am interested going with 27's however I do not want it to be to much for the machine. Does anybody have any input?

I will probably hold off and wear down the stockers some more. Even then not go any bigger than 26's. Thanks for the input I just came accross a deal on 27" 589's and it got the gears in my head rolling.

That is what I am going to plan on, is the MudLites. Like I said is a guy offered 4 new 598 in 27" for $250. so it was hard to say no.

i had 27 inch 589's on my 03 500 cat and i would advise against it. the gas mileage and the power loss were both horrible. because of the tires and my misuse and it not having the power to really turn the big lugs i broke my rear end diff in dryed clay and i power hopped it so bad i screwed something up in the tranny. i wouldn't get anything bigger then 26's.

it will feel that way eb cause you are changing the gear ratio. you are basically gearing the atv up. and sometimes the ground clearence sacrifice by going with smaller tires will make for a better atv in the mud compared to the power loss with taller tires. and besides if you don't have the power to really crack the tires loose in the mud you are liable to put extra strain on the drivetrain hence snapping axles or worse.

The bigger and heavier the tire the more power it takes to turn them. If your atv is stock then look for a fair amount power loss. You would do better with 26"if using a heavy tire, 27 mudlites would be ok. The tire style makes a difference too. Outlaws or mudzillas are big and heavy more so than mudlites or others.

i was running 27' 589's, lasted a long time, put about 3000 miles on them. it took a little bit of power away. not a whole lot though. im running 27' mudlites now and they are a bit heavier than the 589's . i can tell the difference. also itp actually makes there tires smaller than others. side by side,same air pressure ,the mudlites stand taller by about an inch or so.
i know your not supposed to run bigger tires but i just like the way it looks.

I'm running 28's on my 500 and haven't had any problems. Actually I'm one of the few left running 28's as everyone else has jumped to the 30" mudlites.

I've got 26" mudlites on my '04 500 auto and I can tell there is a little power loss in the slop. I think the taller size and the better traction make the motor feel like it is straining more. But what a difference good tires make! It feels unstoppable now.

I just had mudlites xtr -- 26X9 on front and 26X11 on the back installed on my 500 Cat the other day.
Wow -- what a difference over the stocks. Ride great and handle great,
