sound like you have an air buble. in the system somewhere. jsut like a car you have to blead the brakes. shouldnt be to hard.
did it just start doing this? is there any brake fluid leaking anywhere neer the brakes? things to look for.

Anybody ever have to pump their hand brake to keep pressure? Any clue as to what would cause the loss of pressure?

Just bought it used. Will bleed then recheck. As of now I cant find any leaks.

Mine had the same problem with the hand and foot break, i just gave up on the foot break though it works for a week then it doesnt grab again, but for the hand break all that i had to do was drain the old fluid (it probly doesnt require new fluid but i did it anyways) and put in new fluid and blead out the air bubbles and it worked just fine and havent had a problem since, i am not happy with my ac though, little problems like this are a common occurance with mine i dont know if everyone else that owns this model has the little problems that i do but i am trading it because of these problems... some of them range from the choke cable freezing, choke handle breaking, overheating while driving through snow, and it really sucks trying to get to the oil filter... i hope you have much better luck with yours and that mine was just the bad luck of the draw

my 500 hasn't done it for awhile, but once there I had to pump pump pump the hand brake to get it to grab. For some strange reason it stopped doing it. And as you may have read, I am having probs with the foot pedal now : (
