My 05 500 has a fuel pump and no shut-off and it has trouble starting after being trailered also.
Hitting the accelerator pump on the side of the carb seems to help, so I think it is being starved for gas,
so the fuel shut-off wouldn't help. I took the plug out one time when it wouldn't start and it was bone dry.
Had the float stick and dump gas all over the motor while riding, which also has been reported.
I am thinking about changing the carb to one with a manual choke.

He needs a new dealer. The 500 doesn't have a fuel pump as far as I know and it already has a fuel shutoff valve.

My mistake, I did not think they had changed that on the newer bikes. I have not gotten to work on any of the new bikes yet , only 04 and older. The newer one's must still be takeing them back to the dealer. I would have thought the gravity feed system worked well and don't knoe why they would have got rid of the shutoff valve on the tank. I remember A/C telling us at one of the service schools to shut off fuel when trailering to prevent from flooding.

All the models with the new bigger gas tank under the right rear fender have to run a fuel pump. Just something else to go wrong as far as I'm concerned. If I had one, I would put a shut off valve between the pump and the carb, it would be easy enough to do.

My buddies AC 500 4x4 has a hard time to start after being trailered, he says he asked his dealer to put a fuel shutoff valve on it, the dealer said it doesn't need one because it has a vacuum fuel pump, told him he would have to live with it. machine smells of gas after being trailered, also runs like crap for 5 minutes after being started, anyone else have the same problem, if so what did you do to fix it?
