Chains work well, I used them on the rear's of my 2004 400 when I lived in Alaska. Really helped on the icy driveway. Cheaper then new tires too. I think the ones from AC are like $70. Good luck.

It is time to get my machine ready - How about chains?
I just read Cattermans?s post on tires. I really am not a big trail / mud rider. Pretty much just interested in pulling my huge fish house around and want to be able to move it in the spring. Also plowing snow.
I have factory tires. Do chains make sense? How much should I expect to pay and where would you get them?

What I did was go to yard sales and buy chains for small cars or trucks and remake them to fit your application. I took 2 sets and combined them into 1 GREAT set. Every other side link is a cross over chain and yes they have growsers or ice bars on them. Cant wait till I need them. Thought I was going to be able to use them 3 weeks ago when it snowed but the snow melted to quick. So am still waiting.
