Well, I live in western Washington state, on Puget Sound at sealevel and am always riding in the wet, thru water, puddles, etc. No problems from water. We don't generally get all that cold, but we did see some some low 20's and my 2005 400, started up fine everytime. I did have to use the manual primer once but that was because of a blocked tank vent (damn bug).

I have had my 06' 400 auto 4x4 in water up to the headlight's with no touble, when i wash it with or without the seat on i always use a drying camoise or clouth to dry up the water that get's under the seat where the electrical connection's and tool kit are located before starting her up again ! But i've splashed through creek's and mud hole's fast enough to get my head wet, with no problem....this is the first timei've heard of this before.. I've had my 400 since feb. - 7th 2006, the very next day i ran through a creek with water up to the headlight's; this sound's like an electical short to me. You can get some of the dielectical grease to put on the battery connection's, i've heard of some of the atv's with the electric shift shorting out in mud and water, And this is what they have used to keep them from doing this again !! Hope it isn't something i should worry about because the gas tank is so close !!!! Good luck.........williebee

That's good new's kaptap if it ever happen's again unplug the connector's and use some of the Di - Electric Grease compound this stuff is made fro electircal connection's. It help's to protect electical contact's, Lubricates and seal's O - Rings Prevents rust and corrosion ! You can use it in your fise box and all connectors, and if you use it in the headlight bulb socket's to keep the bulb's from blowing prematurly and all electical componect's from going bad. You can get at any auto parts stores, the kind and brand i use is called CRC Technician Grade DI - Electric Grease Compound; it come's in a pressure type spray can with a hose adapter that fiits on the can like a nozzle. It doesn't spray like a liquid but like caulking , i think i bought it at Auto zone. I know for sure it stop's headlight bulb's from blowing, because i had a 93' suzuki KQ 300 4wd 4x4 that blew bulb's 5 or 6 time's every couple month's untill i got thid stuff, and i haven't had another blown bulb since !! It's some good stuff.........................good luck to all.........williebee

Today I rode in a lot of mud and water for about 2 hours. I pulled my '06 400 into the garage and heard popping sounds like a campfire. I looked into the engine compartment under the seat area and saw sparks. I quickly pushed my atv out of the garage. When I looked again, I couldn't see any sparks. I removed the seat and looked at all the wiring and see nothing unusual. Have you experienced this? Any thoughts on what I should look for?

I tried to duplicate the same riding conditions yesterday to try and see if the problem happened again and it didn't. I washed the atv off before the ride and rechecked all the connections again with a cleaner view. One of the connections seemed a little loose so I unplugged it and replugged it back. Perhaps that could have been the cause for the spark. Regardless, it hasn't happened again. I'm not concerned about it any longer.
