artic cat 400 500 ????? help

There is no way that 400 is going to get in there. That auto tranny was made for the 500. You will spend thousands trying to get it to work. Just get another 500 or rebuild that one. They are pretty solid engines. Good luck!

I don't think Cat made an automatic 400 until 2002 and it was called the 375. So the answer to your second question is no.

The 500 and 400 use different voltage regulator and cdi unit. The auto's have a different bottom end from the manual so the drive shafts and motor mounts are also going to be different. What is wrong with the 500 motor?
I think you are going to spend big bucks to convert the quad to a 400 motor. It would be cheaper and less work to have the 500 rebuilt as long as nothing major is wrong with the 500.

I have just bought a 2000 model 4x4 artic cat not sure of the size it is a 400 or 500 i am guessing the plastic decals are all gone except one that say dura something transmission. can anyone tell me what it might be or were to look. Secondly it has a motor in many pieces and i have found a motor 400 off a 2001 4x4 arctic cat will this bolt up if the one i bought is 400 or 500 is it universal thanks

I have identified mine as a 2000 model 500 4x4 and now the motor I want to use is definately a 2001 400 4x4 now will this work if it will bolt up but what about the cdi, voltage, ect will this work. Thanks
